My wife and I returned here for lunch Friday, July 12, 2019 on our way to the airport. We couldn’t think of a better place to have our last meal while on vacation. And we were not disappointed! I had an ice-cold Yuengling to start things off while my wife had a delicious fresh-brewed sweet tea! Again, we had to have the White Hot Shrimp as an appetizer. Lightly breaded shrimp in a creamy garlic sauce. Perfection! We decided to split a Cheesesteak “sammy” and fries, and were very pleasantly surprised at just how flavorful it was! A half-pound of Shaved Rib-eye, with onions and green peppers, with American & Provolone on an authentic amoroso-style roll! We added mushrooms to ours and it really added to the flavor. The meat was nicely chopped and the mixture of all the ingredients made for one of the best Cheesesteaks we’ve had in years. The fries were lightly seasoned, crispy, and very good. Lindsey was as helpful and friendly as ever, answering our menu questions, making sure our drinks were full, and even chatting with us a bit between customers. We appreciated her hospitality! This place really knows their stuff! And their stuff is AWESOME!

Zesto Burgers & Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 2600 New Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem

Ordered delivery through Takeout Central. Tend to be indecisive, and order many things at once to sample bites. Also, if I’m paying a delivery fee, I’m getting enough food to make it worthwhile. Ranking most to least favorite. 1. Patty Melt – burger with mushrooms, onions, supposed to be provolone but tasted like American cheese on Texas toast. I think they accidentally added chopped cheese steak on top of the burger, but it was even beefier and better to me. Edited to add, I just read the sandwich description closer. The sirloin steak was SUPPOSED to be there!! Beef on beef? What’s not to love!?! 2. Grilled Cheese – American cheese, added mushrooms and onions, on Texas toast. Heads up, the sandwiches on Texas toast will be greasy. Still very good, though. 3. Onion Rings – battered, real onions, tasty. If you like Hardee’s onion rings, you’ll probably like these. 4. Wing Basket – 6 wings and fries. Charred, tossed with buffalo sauce. Would have liked more sauce, but there was enough to taste. Strong char flavor, a little dry. 5. Wing Basket, part 2 – Crispy instead of charred, teriyaki sauce on the side. Meat felt drier, sauce was gingery, not too sweet. Still good flavor overall. 6. Fries – thicker than shoestring, thinner than steak fries. Not crispy but cooked, seasoned, a bit droopy. I didn’t hate them, but if you like crispy fries look elsewhere. 7. Veggie Burger – Chipotle black bean burger, lettuce, tomato, added mushrooms and onions. It’s not bad for a veggie burger. I’ve had worse. Might doctor it up with my own garlic & onion powders, and add a condiment of some sort when I finish it off. Guacamole sounds good, I have some to use it before it turns bad. Wanted to try a shake, but didn’t think it would hold up well on the drive to the house. Did like the fact you could add extra items to most sandwiches, as desired, many without additional charge. Found it weird that it cost more to have the wings tossed in sauce versus on the side, especially since the tossed ones were a bit lacking in sufficient sauciness. After 7 bites of multiple sandwiches, 6 assorted wings, 2 onion rings, and a handful of fries later I’m ready for a food coma. I hope the food reheats well in the microwave, there are plenty of leftovers!

Bless Your Heart Burgers 33rd Avenue – Menu with Prices – 5410 NE 33rd Ave, Portland

Located at the former site of Cannon’s Rib Express, Bless Your Heart Burgers (BYH) 33rd Avenue is the second location of BYH and the first location on the east side. There seems to be a lot of hype about BYH’s burgers and I can see why. I wouldn’t say its the best burger in town, but I did really enjoy my Classic Burger (with added sautéed mushrooms and bacon) last night. I love how BYH smashes their burgers to get a super crusty finish on the exterior of the burger. That char added so much flavor to the burger, and the burger was still moist too. The sautéed mushrooms added a nice textural element, though I would skip the bacon next time since it was a bit chewy and definitely low quality. Along with my burger, I also shared Chili Cheese Fries and the Down n Dirty Fries with my partner. Of the two, I’d say the Down n Dirty Fries were my favorite. Both of the fries came with this great beer cheese sauce, but I liked that the Down n Dirty Fries came with griddled onions, peppers, and mushrooms, as I felt like I needed more veggies in my meal due to the use of shredded lettuce in my burger instead of a big piece of lettuce, which is normally my preference. I thought the fries were a tad oily, but still tasty nonetheless.

Chester’s Philly Grill Menu with Prices 2195 S Chambers Rd, Aurora

This was a very pleasant surprise. Being a native of the Philadelphia area I am quite provincial when it comes to my cheesesteaks. I found this as a result of being in this area at lunch time with no plans and checking Yelp for lunch ideas. Small place, no frills, friendly woman behind the counter. Seems to be a Mom & Pop operation which is near and dear to my heart. Ordered an “Original” regular size and a fountain drink, $9.12. The sammich was a little larger than what I expected at that price. Overall good quality, well grilled onions and the most overlooked feature – a toasted roll. If you’ve read this far then you’re the type that knows that the roll MAKES the sandwich. Since they don’t have Amoroso, they took a lemon (non-Amoroso roll) and made lemonade (toasted that sucker). Truly elevated the flavor. I will be back to try their house special.

Kruk’s Philly Steaks – Menu with Prices – 5231 University Pkwy #105, Bradenton

Tasty I stopped in for lunch today, it wasn’t busy. I read through all the reviews ahead of time and was interested to see how much meat I would get on my sandwich, but my problems started earlier. When I walked in, I saw the sign explaining how to order, and having spent time in Philly I was already familiar with “wiz wit”, cheese wiz and with onions. We were off to a very Philly start. At the counter I ordered a large Cheesesteak Wiz Wit combo. My order taker asked if I wanted onions. I was confused, didn’t I just say that? Then I was asked if I wanted peppers, I said no. In hindsight I now realize I was being asked about sweet peppers, not hot peppers, and I should have said yes. I was not asked about mushrooms, don’t sweet peppers and mushrooms automatically come on a Philly Cheesesteak? Apparently not. It didn’t take long to get my food and the sandwich and fries were nice and hot. While not a generous amount, I thought the amount of meat was fine for the size of the sandwich. I was disappointed by the size of my ‘large’ sandwich. I was also not impressed with the sandwich construction, the wiz was on the bottom, finely chopped meat in the middle, and onions placed on top. It didn’t take long for the cheese to start leaking out and the onions to fall off. Shouldn’t all this be mixed together? If the sweet peppers and mushrooms were going to just be placed on top, I’m kind of glad I didn’t get those ‘toppings’ for an upcharge. Tasted good. Aside from missing a few things I missed ordering, my bad, it was a good sandwich. They just opened a second location closer to me in south Sarasota and once they have had time to work out any startup kinks, I’ll stop in knowing more about how to order, the wiz wit sign I first saw did not explain about peppers and mushrooms.

Cousins Maine Lobster Raleigh – Menu with Prices – 411 W Morgan St, Raleigh

I was really looking forward to eating this tonight after seeing them on Shark Tank as well as the giant line their food truck has had at a few of the Raleigh food truck events. Between the 3 of my family members we ordered a Maine lobster roll, lobster tacos combo with tots, shrimp tacos, lobster bisque, 1 water and 1 lemonade. Total came to $55.48. The woman who took our order was friendly. This was really a mixed review of the food. I tasted all that was ordered to sample. The highlight was the lobster bisque. Very smooth consistency, great flavor and had a few pieces of chopped lobster mixed in. The lobster tacos were good as well, topped with fresh pico. The most lackluster item was unfortunately the one I personally ordered which was the cold lobster roll. The bun was nicely toasted with the perfect amount of butter to not be greasy. The lobster itself was cooked well, but really lacked seasoning. What surprised me most though was that it appeared to have no mayonnaise. The first few bites I took I didn’t taste any…then I realized it was globed on the bottom of the bun and the lobster placed on top. I hate to say it, but it was rather unappetizing (see pic). My suggestion would be for the lobster to be mixed with a seasoned mayonnaise mixture and also to throw on some traditional celery leaves. The slaw had potential, but really lacked seasoning as well. Lastly, the shrimp tacos, like the lobster ones, had great flavor. They were loaded, but with TINY shrimp. My husband agreed he would’ve rather had 5-6 medium/large shrimp to actually have something to bite in to, rather than several extra small shrimp.

A Taste Of Philadelphia – Menu with Prices – 2533 James St, Syracuse

Tonight for dinner I wanted cheese steak, now granted I usually make my own at home because it’s a quick and easy process. But this is a spot I have driven by several times and have been wanting to try. Today was that day. Upon entering, I get a definite feel for Philadelphia, a place I love and has distinct meaning in my life, but I felt like I was walking into a old row home in that city with the little strip of buildings this place slides into. Tons of philly memorabilia on the walls from rocky to sports teams. A bit dingy and dark and definitely needs a facelift and some new ceiling tiles. But I suppose that’s part of its charm. Only one lady behind the counter there was quick to greet us and ask what we would like with a smile. And I can always appreciate service like that. I had a basic cheese steak with provolone, peppers, and mushrooms. Not the classic way to do it. But I’m glad they offered my preferences as an option there. Naomi got her favorite as well, a pizza steak. They even offer bottled fancy IBC root beer and creme sodas. Another of my favorites. She didn’t ask for payment right away just asked if we were eating in or taking it home. We opted to eat in and she told us to see wherever we wanted and she’d bring our food over. Now I’ll reiterate as I always do. Sandwiches are my favorite thing. And I think I have a pretty good handle on where to find the best things between bread. And I’ll tell ya. This is a damn close representation of a good philly steak. The one thing they do correctly right off the bat. They import their rolls. Amoroso is one of the best and it makes the flavor of the sandwich immediately better. There are a few different methods of making a philly steak. Sort of chopping the meat up and mixing your cheese in or leaving it more of a strip form. They use the prior method. I sort of wish it weren’t peppers and mushrooms weren’t from a can. But I did expect that given this is a quick bite place and not a fine dining experience. All in all I truly enjoyed it. Paid for my meal afterwards, 22.50 for two sandwiches and two drinks. Right around what you’d pay in Philadelphia as well. If you enjoy a good sandwich. This is definitely a place to try. I know I’ll make a second trip myself. And it won’t take 4 hours to get there.

Williamsburg Deli Menu with Prices 2900 N Sycamore St, Arlington

I passed by this place for years without stopping, but then I read the reviews on this site. A four-star eatery a block and a half from my house? I just had to check it out. Unfortunately, I found it to be a typical run-of-the-mill deli. Not bad at all, but not anything special either. At the end of the day, it’s just sandwiches. Some reviews mentioned the Philly cheese steak, so I ordered the deluxe, which comes with mushrooms and green peppers for a dollar more. The sandwich was good, and I very much liked the bread. However, it was light on the cheese, mushrooms and green peppers, so that extra dollar was pretty much wasted money. The onion rings and crinkle fries were good but pretty standard. Not a bad place to grab a quick sandwich, but also nothing worth getting too excited about. And FYI, there are only about four tables in the whole place, so one should come expecting to order as take-out.

Erwin’s Philly Cheese Steak – Menu with Prices – 4030 Hoyt Ave, Everett

We went in to Erwin’s craving some delicious Garlic Fries and a big Cheesesteak. I had the A7 Mushroom and Pepper Cheesesteak and my boyfriend had the Bahama Cheesesteak. We both got some garlic fries. The owner was super nice when he took our order. My Cheesesteak was so good! The peppers and mushrooms were cooked perfectly. The peppers had just a hint of a crunch, which was a nice contrast to the steak and white cheese. The roll was also good and fresh. The garlic fries were super garlicky, however the fries themselves seemed a bit stale. I wish they had been a little more crisp. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal. My boyfriend said his sandwich was good. Very filling. His fries were also a bit stale. I still rate this 5 stars, just for the sandwiches and excellent customer service alone.

Pigout BBQ And Southern Soul Food – Menu with Prices – 5718 Manatee Ave W, Bradenton

My wife saw an article on the local morning TV news for the Pig Out BBQ in Bradenton FL, so she wanted to take me there for dinner. The BBQ menu looked good and tempting, but surprisingly we both each just chose a cheeseburger. We ordered it medium and although it took awhile to come to our table (maybe because of the TV broadcast that they were a little busier than normal) it was very very good. Nicely seasoned, cooked medium & charbroiled and the flavor was delicious. Now my wife thinks they used a filler in the chopped meat, but I think it was just finely ground. The bun was nice and fresh but could have been a little smaller compared to the beef. Onion, tomato and Romain lettuce added – delicious! The fries were not the best I’ve ever had and were a little overdone and dry. I ate few of them. But, I absolutely loved their cucumber salad. Yes it is a little sweet (just like my mom used to make) but for me very tasty. My wife loved the encrusted mac & cheese patty. And finally, the Cole slaw was made the Fast Eddie way of years ago with pineapple and we love it too! The BBQ sauce we sampled on the table was really good, also. We will be back there again soon! Enjoy Pig Out BBQ if you’re in the hood! It’s just a nice little BBQ restaurant. (They do charge full soda price for just a plain club soda)

Ruby Thai Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 6330 Park City Center, Lancaster

Ruby Thai Kitchen is a good place to stop for fast food style Asian food, which is not really authentic Thai food, but closer to being like “Panda Express” Chinese food. They offer several Thai style meat dishes (mostly chicken choices), noodles, rice, vegetables, fried appetizers, Coke products, and bottled drinks. As for the pricing, they offer 1 Meat ($4.99 w 1 side/$5.59 w 2 sides), 2 Meats ($5.99 w 1 side/$6.59 w 2 sides), 3 Meats ($6.99 w 1 side/$7.59 w 2 sides), and Kids Meal ($4.59 with 1 meat, 1 side, & drink). Add an appetizer for $0.99 more. While shopping at Park City Center, I stopped in the food court for some dinner. I went with the 1 Meat 2 Sides ($5.59) and chose Thai Spicy Chicken with Veg Fried Rice, and Noodles and an Egg Roll ($0.99). The portion of food was good and just right. The main dish had boneless breaded cubed chicken pieces, celery, peppers, and onions, which a mild spicy taste. The noodles (lo mein) with onions was soft and oily. The fried rice had a mix of peas , carrots, and onion. The egg roll was quite good, which was filled with a dense mixture of carrot, cabbage, and soft chicken in a firm wrap shell, not greasy. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner in the food court which actually tasted pretty good, though it was similar to quick service Chinese food. (3.6 stars)

Eastwind Sushi & Grill – Menu with Prices – 18555 N 59th Ave #124, Glendale

Unaccommodating to allergies. I can’t have spicy pepper and almost all of their lunch items are spicy. I asked if I could have the roll just not spicy and the waiter notified me that it would be a $2.00 upcharge even though on their regular menu a spicy salmon roll is $6.25 and a non spicy salmon roll is $6.50. The food is good and presented nicely. I ended up with the Shrimp Tempura roll lunch special one of the few things that wasn’t loaded with siracha and it was decent, like so many places though more cheap shredded fake crab stick than shrimp or avocado. The nigiri were fresh and tasted good. Salmon, red snapper, tuna and a shrimp. The miso was very tasty. The hot green tea was a nice lite green tea that I enjoyed and cost $2.75. It’s a shame that this restaurant like several others thinks there somehow saving money by upcharging for a very simple change. The real reason why spicy tuna or spicy salmon etc is used so much is that it’s the junk parts of the cheaper fish. Sad really… I would have like to give this place a 4 or better but their greed prevents it.
