As a Eritrean American , who came to the states in early eighties, when literally zero Habesha restaurants existed. Now you have Eritrean & Ethiopian restaurants practically at every corner in Boston ..Yes Sir!! I was very excited to frequent This establishment. There were s bunch of Eritreans , customers that is and the workers.well much love!.. The service was somewhat slow, but my waitress was hospitable. I parked across the street..in a secure parking lot 2 hour limit (Free).. can’t go wrong there… I ordered lega tibs(lamb)..but came with no side veggies..which was very disappointing. It came with lentil (very little)and the lamb was over cooked and very watery..injera was scarce..only received half of injera….could’ve used more. Overall.. the folks there were very nice.. I will surely re visit this establishment and would highly recommend it to my friends & family. -Samson Oh, they don’t accept American Express

Hawwi Ethiopian Restaurant Menu with Prices 1125 Queen St, Alexandria

A solid 3 and 1/2 stars. The good – This place is spacious, has air conditioning and looks clean, it looks more like a fine dining Ethiopian restaurant. They provide bottled water, which I appreciated. Most of the food we tasted had a good level of spice to it and tasted fresh. The green chutney provided, was much appreciated. The lady that brought our food to us was very welcoming. The bad – our male waiter bearly spoke to us, only to take orders, most of the time he was around the back. The portions could have been better with our combi 4 platter we got small portions of two beef dishes, and 2 small portions of veg. dishes (which we could choose) I chose red lentils and potatoes and cabbage. I enjoyed the red lentil, but the potatoes and cabbage was bland. They were also miserly with the injera, previously when I’ve ordered combo platters at other Ethiopian restaurants, they put a full injera with dishes on top then also provide you with another injera cut up on the side. With this platter they put the dishes on a quarter piece of injera and provided one on a separate plate, then charged you $2 for each additional one you ordered, so felt a little duped The ugly – the chocolate cake we ordered for dessert was definitely not fresh, it was shop brought, it tasted way too sweet and dry and definitely not worth the $5 we paid. Overall I would say, this place is expensive for what you get. I’ve tasted better quality Ethiopian food for the price, at other restaurants in DC.

Shebelle Ethiopian Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1924 9th St NW, Washington

I have been to many Ethiopian restaurants in the DMV area, this one is by far my favorite one. We came across this beautiful restaurant in the Shaw area while looking for restaurants to have our dinner on a Saturday evening. As we entered we noticed extremely authentic Ethiopian decor. We were greeted by a fantastic host who is also the owner’s wife. As we sat down to look at their menu the first thing I noticed is that there was no one else other than us on a Saturday evening in one of most crowded places in DC. I started to wonder why there’s no one here. Although I was very curious to know the reason, I waited until I tasted their food. So we started by ordered beef and vegetarian sambusa. It’s a dough stuffed with beef and lentils and deep fried. It was crispy from the outside and tender from the inside. Absolutely delicious! I immediately let my server know that it’s the best sambusa I have had for a while. We order meat sampler for our entree. That includes 3 meat dishes and 2 vegetable dishes. For meat we ordered beef and lamb ribs along with spicy chicken that also includes a boiled egg. Tibs are usually chewy but this place has the best tibs. It was so juicy and tender that I could have had another portion of tibs. I was over the moon with the quality of food that was served to us. The platter includes unlimited enjira. So if you’re a big eater then you do not have to worry about paying extra money for enjira. For vegetable dishes we ordered spicy lentils and mixed veggies. Host was very kind to give a free portion of salad. I love their salad. So here comes the part where I had to ask the owner why no one was here on a Saturday evening. I was told by the owner that this restaurant opened just 3 months ago and they need help promoting their business. That makes sense. But for the quality of food being served here which is way better than some of the other Ethiopian restaurants I would imagine more people should be giving this place a try. Very authentic food as mentioned by the owner. They bring all their spices from Ethiopia. Pricing is very nominal for a meat platter. I definitely recommend this place over other Ethiopian restaurants of you are looking for Ethiopian cuisines.

Asmara Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5020 Telegraph Ave, Oakland

My wife & I were coming home after a Cal football game & decided to stop for dinner. Driving on Telegraph, there are numerous Ethiopian & Eritrean restaurants. So we decided to try one & we chose Asmara Restaurant. The Wait Staff was outstanding. Extremely friendly, very helpful. They were a huge part of us enjoying our meal. Always checking on us, making sure my water glass was full. Our first time at a Eritrean restaurant so we didn’t know what to order. We noticed that everyone was eating with their hands, so that was really interesting. Our waitress recommended a combo plate w/ lamb, chicken & beef. This huge platter arrives & the combo we ordered, along with vegetables & a platter of what looks like pancakes. I ripped off some of the pancake, scooped up some food & ate it. It was very tasty & delicious. We ate the entire platter. We were both very satisfied with our meal & it was also very inexpensive. I’m sure we’ll be back & I can’t wait to return so we can try something different.

Sora Ethiopian Market, Cafe, Menu with Prices 5145 Duke St, Alexandria

This is the ONLY place I go for Ethiopian food on days when I do not feel like preparing it at home. The food is fresh, authentic, traditional, and absolutely delicious! The owners, Addis and her husband are so sweet, kind, beautiful people and they give you the option to have Ethio injera fresh delivered from Ethiopia, or you can get your food served with American injera. This is one of the cleanest, spotless restaurants I have ever been to in my life! (They have a Health Score of 98 out of 100) This cleanliness is very VERY important to me. Also, their food is prepared / cooked by Ethiopians the traditional way, NOT cooked by underpaid latino staff members, like another Ethiopian restaurant in the area (you know who you are) The location is easy and convenient to get to, in a safe neighborhood on busy Duke street, which makes it very easy to find. They are open from 10 am – 9 pm, so if you want the BEST Ethiopian cuisine in the DMV, I urge you to get to SORA Ethiopian Restaurant TODAY!

Yegna Ethiopian Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 3515 17 Ave SE #100, Calgary

I have been to many african/Ethiopian places in Calgary and this was just so-so. I wouldnt go out of my way to go back, but if i was in the area and hungry i might stop in. It is your typical Ethopian fare. I found the menu a but small, and lacking things such as appetizers and dessert. I had yeh beg tibs (boneless lamb cubes) and tea. The food was good but not amazing. The bill came to $20 for the lamb, salad, injera bread, 1 tea and 1 juice. place is small but very clean. Fassil (another Ethopian place) is right accross the street, I have eaten there 3-4 times and would choose to go there instead. Prices are about the same but there is a much wider food selection, including samosas, yum! and desserts as well. The servers there are very attentive, and at Ibex they basically take your order and bring your food and thats about it. Ethnic music was loud, sports games also t.v, and lighting was dim. (these could all be good or bad things depending on personal taste) I was here Friday November 1st at about 7pm.

Lalibela restaurant LLC – Menu with Prices – 200 S Kiwanis Ave, Sioux Falls

I’m not an expert on Ethiopian food, but I do like exotic food, and this place is fantastic! Super clean restaurant with friendly service and minimal wait time for a fresh meal. I was actually surprised that it was as speedy as it was given that it was basically a husband and wife doing all of the cooking and serving for about 6 tables while I was there. That being said, the owner took his time explaining the menu to us as if he had all the time in the world, and his suggestions were excellent. My wife and I had the beef and chicken tibs, which were served on (and eaten via) injera. The injera was wonderfully sour, which I appreciate as a kid from the Bay Area; everyone outside of California seems to think they know what sourdough bread is, but when they make it, its really not sour at all. This (quite unexpectedly) met that standard, and I found it extraordinarily delicious. The meat was well seasoned and perfectly cooked: warm, tender, juicy. Perfection. The bread that soaks directly below the meat is worth fighting for. My wife was a bit put off by the lack of utensils, but I am not as afflicted by cleanliness as she is, and it was quite fun eating with my hands at a sit down restaurant. Definitely bringing the kids next time to participate in the break from traditional table manners!

Hope’s Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 2806 N 22nd Ave, Hollywood

This is a cozy joint that serves Caribbean American style food. The food is good in a general way; not epic, but in no way poor. What makes this place a nice sell is the prices. $2.99 lunch specials (11am-3pm), the amount of food you get, and for me the way the veggies are cooked. I really like veggies and sometimes at Caribbean and Latin cuisine places, the veggies seem like an afterthought. I liked the side of spinach and also her broccoli mixture. Not greasy like many of these type of restaurants. I must admit the brown stew chicken, although cooked with care and good texture was missing the punch on flavor. It was still tasty though. The owners (husband and wife) were very nice. I’ve been twice now. Took hubby the 2nd time, and he had a shot of liquor for which they sell for $1 (bottom shelf) and $5 (think Patron) a shot. Not bad at all.

Kaffa Ethiopian Cuisine Menu with Prices 2987 Sacramento St, Berkeley

All the good reviews are true. I had something of a revelation when traveling in Vietnam last year. I was thinking the entire country reminded me a lot of Chinatown, except it just kept going on forever. As gauche as that thought might be, it did help me to realize one of the reasons that so many ethnic restaurants and business establishments look they way they do — that’s how it is “back home” and that’s what the owners thing it SHOULD look like — it’s the schema they have in their minds when putting together their businesses. So, with that in mind, I’m quite willing to put aside the lack of flashy signage, the humble tiled floor, the LED “Open” sign taped to the window. Don’t come here for Slick or Fancy. Instead come here because it’s like visiting the house of a good friend who happens to be a fabulous cook. And Shitaye Beshir, the owner, is a REALLY fabulous cook. The whole place is about the size of your living room, with a total of three tables, and I don’t know what she would do if all the tables were full at once! She greeted us warmly when we came in and took our orders without writing anything down, but she remembered everything. The menu is simple; the main dish is a vegan combination plate, either small, medium, or large. Small is enough for a light meal. I found the Medium filling, and had to take home leftovers. If you have a more “American”-sized appetite, you may be able to handle the Large, but it may be better for two people. Shitaye gets her ingredients from the Farmer’s Market and cooks everything fresh to order. I expected a longer wait, since it’s just her running the whole restaurant, but it didn’t take much longer that going to any other restaurant. The Gomen was wonderful, made with fresh greens, thinly sliced so it can be cooked until tender instead of being overcooked. The flavor of the greens shines through nicely without being dominated by spices or oil. I usually don’t like Atikil. That’s the one thing left on my plate, but not this time. The combination of potatoes and carrots was so nicely spiced, I couldn’t stop from eating it. The Kik Alicha was quite good, spicier than in most US restaurants, a less Americanized version with large chickpeas with nice texture. The Misir Wot was deliciously spiced with just enough berbere to let you feel the heat without overwhelming the lentils. The Buticha was freshly made with chickpeas into country-style spicy hummus. I also had the Shiro, which was deeply spiced and very rich-tasting. The injera is made of 100% teff, so the food is not only vegan but gluten-free! Teff is significantly more costly, about 10x the price of wheat flour, so most restaurants blend wheat and teff to reduce the cost of making injera, but not here! The result is a dark brown, chewy injera, significantly more flavorful, like a cross between German pumpernickel and strong sourdough. The sambusas (samosas) were light and fluffy with an explosively flavorful lentil filling, accompanied by a simple chutney of vibrant green chiles — amazing and delicious. I could live on these! And get fat! I also had a Telba (flaxseed smoothie) which was rich, creamy, and cooling, as well as some very nice Ethiopian tea, which is like Indian Chai only with cloves in it. I had my first taste of Kitfo thrity years ago, and Ethiopian food was immediately one of my favorite cuisines. I’ve eaten at a lot of Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurants since then, and I will tell you that Kaffa is THE BEST I have ever had. Clean fresh vibrant flavors and low-fat recipes made it easy for me to overeat, particularly with my Ethiopian surrogate grandmother bringing extra food and making such warm and genuine conversation. Kaffa is an absolute gem of a restaurant. Go there with the appropriate expectations, and I guarantee you will leave happy!

Eden On Brand – Menu with Prices – 214 N Brand Blvd, Glendale

Eden is a great location for large groups to get together. The restaurant has 3 floors but the top floor (rooftop) overlooking brand is the most popular. For larger groups make a reservation. At 9:30 PM they have a DJ come out who progressively plays louder music as the night goes and/or the crowd starts to develop hearing loss. The menu had a huge variety. Usually when a restaurant is trying to serve many different kinds of cuisines it tends to not do any of them particularly well (think Cheesecake Factory) so we tried to find items that were hard to get wrong. 1. TRUFFLE FRIES (5/5) – several orders of these have to be at your table. Crispy, well seasoned, shoestring fries had everyone’s mouth watering. 2. NEW ZEALAND LAMB CHOPS (4/5) – ordered these as medium and they were perfect. Cooked well and very tender served over some fun Mediterranean style veggies. Although it could’ve used more chimichurri (either on the chop or on the side) & some maldon salt (or any crunchy salt) to bring out all the flavors. The initial bite of the lamb chop was perfect but there wasn’t enough flavor to carry it all the way through. The meat fell right off the bone which was wonderful. 3. HALIBUT W/GREEN BEANS & TEMPURA VEGGIES (4.5/5) – this was a well balanced dish and a healthy option. Nice size of fish, two sauces, tempura veggies and green beans. The Halibut had a nice sear on top and the tempura veggies went really well with the sauces. The green beans fell a bit flat but they were solid. Overall, I’d come here again for a birthday party or a get together for friends. For date night/intimate dinner, I’d rather go somewhere else.

House of Hummus Mediterranean Cafe Menu with Prices 5950 North Point Pkwy #127, Alpharetta

I randomly searched for “mediterranean restaurant” around my office, and this place populated first with the highest rating. I went over for lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. First, the platter portion is really good. I wanted to get full, so I ordered a lentil soup as well without knowing what the portion will be. I received french fries, a little bit of salad, pita bread, rice, and my choice of meat. The chicken shawarma had enough chicken, but the gyro platter had much more meat. Next time, I am going to get gyro for more meat. Chicken shawarma was savory and great and the fries were seasoned fries. They were not some blend fries, and I loved the fact that they were seasoned. The only downside might be the chicken was a little dry. I don’t know if people have tried this before, but when I eat rice at Mediterranean restaurants, eating it with soup is a great combination. So, I mixed rice with my lentil soup, and the combination was amazing here. Separately, the lentil soup was evenly flavored and savory. There are other great side options, and I am kind of excited to try other food at this restaurant. If you are in the area and want some really good and quick Mediterranean food, check out House of Hummus.

Dickâ??s Wings And Grill Augustine, FL – Menu with Prices – S S, 4010 US-1, St. Augustine

Being new to the area and wanting some good wings we had been told that Dick’s was the place to go. The service was good as she had recommendations on both the flavors (and heat)=of the wings, along with the ice cold beer on tap. My wife ordered the Applewood Honey BBQ and I got the General Dick’s after being told they were nice and spicy and would impart some good heat. I also ordered a side of waffle fries with baked beans. The wings were nice and crisp with the Applewood having good flavor of both bbq sauce and smokiness. I was disappointed in the General Dick’s though as . . . while they had good flavor . . . they did lack any ‘heat.’ On their menu they show you can get ‘heat’ for any flavor by ordering it to be spiced up . . . but going on the recommendation that there would already be ‘heat,’ simply ordered the wings expecting a decent ‘bite,’ which impress. Also . . . the baked beans were very disappointing in that they were very, very watery and thin. We may try Dick’s again so I can see if it shapes up but I was somewhat disappointed after having received recommendations for the establishment.

Enjera Restaurant Menu with Prices 549 23rd St S, Arlington

My boyfriend and I LOVE this place! The key to success is for one person to get a meat dish and the other to get a veggie dish and then share it. We got the chicken spris and veggie sampler. The sauce on the chicken was incredibly well seasoned, and the veggies were diverse and delicious. I especially liked the spicy lentils and the green beans. There was plenty of injera that came with the meal. The sauce-soaked injera that the food came on was sooo good afterwards. There was a lot of food, so I had leftovers to enjoy later. The ambiance can be casual or sophisticated depending on how you’re feeling (some people were dressed more casually than others). Sometimes parking can be a challenge, so I would recommend looking for parking on a neighborhood side street behind the restaurant when you arrive. Overall a 10/10 experience! I would highly recommend coming by, you won’t be disappointed!
