This is a hard review to write, not just because of the contrast between the good and the bad, but also because Waxing Services are such a personal thing, very much tied to personal likes and dislikes. So, in an effort to be as clear as possible I’m going to split my review by parts. 1. Location – Parking can be tricky as this is a busy area, but I find the location to be convenient. The lobby is super clean and inviting, the bathrooms were spotless and so was the service room. 2. Staff – I thought the front desk person was very nice, super informative, smiley… everything you want from the person who welcomes you into the business. Christie, who did my eyebrows and my brazilian, was equally nice, smiley, fun to talk to, and full of information. 3. Service – This is were it starts to get tricky so let me divide this in subcategories, bear with me here please: a. The wax – They use a hard wax, I call it the ‘old school wax’ which hardens as it cools. This wax does not require a cloth strip to stick to (and rip), but because it hardens quickly it has to be kept at a higher temperature than the regular honey wax. This may not be a problem for some people but it was for me, and I consider myself a veteran at waxing because coming from South America, I have been putting myself through this torture for decades, and even doing it myself. Also, because this wax is thicker, it requires a little more pressure when its being applied which makes it more uncomfortable. b. The ‘technique” – According to Christie, the people who provide this service go through extensive and standardized training which is great to hear, but I saw some differences from other places that made the experience more uncomfortable for me personally. First, you undress while this person is waiting right there in the room with you. Yes… I know, they are going to see all your bits and pieces anyway, but it’s just weird that they don’t leave the room at all. Secondly, they don’t provide you with anything at all to cover while you wait, or in my case, while you get your eyebrows waxed. And finally (this may be TMI), the way they go about waxing your “back” area is not like anything I have done before… Normally you just turn and they do their thing, this time I felt like my diaper was being changed. I survived but if this was my first experience, I think I would have been mortified and scared away for life. c. The products – I get that every place has their own recommendations on products they want you to get and it is OK if they mention them, but I really felt the sales pitch was too much. This is probably a product of the extensive training their people go through but in some cases, less is more. I scheduled another appointment in 5 weeks to see if having less hair makes a difference (it probably will), but I am not sure I will go, mostly because hair or no hair I think the wax temperature is a big issue. This may also be a matter of personal preference, and I just simply like the other kind of wax better but… if I decide to go back, I will update my review. For now… that’s all folks!

Artiâ??s Lashes and Brows – Menu with Prices – Inside Phenix Salon Suites, 19800 Hawthorne Blvd Suite 101, Torrance

Ok, I dont usually write reviews but ….I just got to say “i love this girl”. nice ,friendly and very professional. I met arti when she was still working at seva inside walmart, Now i am so glad she has her own spot we can go to ! Appointment is sooo easy. Very accomodating. I didnt have a regular eyebrow lady back then and just go wherever , but since i met arti i nver let anyone touch my eyebrows anymore. I kept coming back until i am one of her regular customer already! Arti always do a great job! All the girls that lined up at seva before are there just because of her. She dont only do a great job with eyebrows ! She does great lashes, facial and all that beauty essential a girl would want. Price is very affordable, i always get this clustered lashes and eyebrows for $25!! Who can beat that?, I always gets compliments with my brows and lashes btw ! Well overall, always a great experience. If you wAnt a great eyebrows and lashes yall better start making an appointment asap.

BROWS BY NAOMI – Menu with Prices – 1333 2nd St Suite 46, Santa Monica

Today was my first time going to Naomi, and hands down she is fabulous!! I had been searching for someone nearby that offered waxing and threading, I’ve finally found my holy grail person!! She has the cutest little setup in Salon Republic, which is also where I get my nails done (Shout-out to Katie at Nail thoughts :)!!). Naomi is extremely nice, very personable and will explain the differences in threading and waxing and what she recommends for what you’re trying to accomplish. All her stuff is clean, she doesn’t try to up-sell any treatments or products, in fact, she tries to save you money!! Overall, my experience with Naomi was wonderful and I will definitely be going back to her!

Glow By Joy – Menu with Prices – 3508 W Magnolia Blvd, Burbank

I started coming to Dylan Keith salon when my usual hair dresser, Melanie, moved here. As others have said the interior of the salon is top notch with plenty of room in front and in the back, and nice bright lighting. The staff is beyond friendly always offering coffee, tea and water. There’s plenty of parking either on the street, or small public lot in back. The prices are really a bargain for the level of service and talent working at the salon. I can’t say enough good things about Melanie. She is a genius with color. People are often surprised to discover I color my hair. Also, Melanie really understands how to cut curly hair and listens when I tell her I’m just not going to spend a lot of time styling my hair, so she cuts it so it will look good with little fussing. I’ve also gotten facials here with Nicole. She is fantastic. She has a warm, bubbly personality that puts you at ease, but knows when to just let you lay down and be pampered. I’m getting married soon and went to her for a pre-wedding facial. With one visit my skin is already improved immensely. Nicole’s extractions were super gentle and after we were finished I felt relaxed and glowing. I went back a few days later for Nicole to wax my eyebrows. Again she was super gentle and really cleaned up my brows so they look natural and full.

Rustic Roots – Menu with Prices – 10246 Suite C, Indiana Ave, Riverside

I have had Melissa as my Hair dresser for 6 years. She loves her job. She never keeps me waiting for my hair appointments . She also sends me reminder appointment texts. Besides doing a great job on cutting my thick, frizzy curly hair. She does beautiful color. I get strangers complimenting me on my color. They always ask me for Melissa’s number. Melissa takes her time tending to my hair. She has this gift of relaxing me while sitting in the chair. 98% of the time I fall asleep. I leave feeling like I left a SPA. Her Salon is very clean and spacious. The decor is inviting ,comfortable and pretty. She has a table in the waiting room with Cookies, Hot Chocolate, Coffee and Hot Tea. This Salon has a huge wall with various Shampoo and hair products for Sale. The prices are very reasonable. In conclusion, Melissa is a genuine, professional , caring and considerate person. She will not let you leave until you are satisfied! She’s a keeper! You have nothing to lose. But gain beautiful hair. Sincerely, Elizabeth W.

Danny Medina Artistry – Menu with Prices – 133 Kearny St Ste 200, San Francisco

Fist, the whole booking process is very easy and simple. The services are listed for you (which explains what each service will include) and you just choose the one you want and after, you will see the times available. The service itself was amazing! Danny is truly versatile with the different textures of hair he works with from super straight to super curly or even coarse hair (such as my hair). I would honestly say he’s one of the best male hair stylists. For those curious about the process; once you arrive he has you change into a jacket to protect you from the hair. You then sit and he gives you a consultation on exactly how you would want your hair. Next he gives a complimentary above the shoulder massage which was amazing and helps to relax you. After the massage he then begins to style you and work on your head. After he’s finished with his work and you’re satisfied with the length, etc. He then shampoos, rinses and dries you. Danny has really great knowledge of hair products which would go well with your type of hair, he helped me with finding a product which helped out a lot! Lastly he offered a warm towel for my face to help my muscles relax and rehydrate my skin. Once everything is done he will reassure that you love it and are satisfied before he’s completely finished. Overall my whole experience was amazing! (I also want to mention how he knows how to hold a good conversation or if you want to relax he lets you relax as well) I would recommend him to everyone with all different textures of hair because he definitely knows what he’s doing. If you’re doubting making an appointment, hopefully this can help you make your decision. Stephanie IS AWESOME! She just started her own salon inside Sola Salons so come check her out. She listens to what you want and really makes an effort to ensure your happiness. I have thick Asian hair and she knows exactly how to thin it out and make it manageable. Other hair stylists will leave it either too layered that it’s awkward or too thick that it looks too heavy. Hair color: On point! She’s super honest with you and will make sure your hair color will turn out exactly as you want. It’s definitely helpful if you come in with a picture. My hair was super brassy when I came in. After my appointment, I got an Ash balayage. Easy maintenance and Stephanie will tell you exactly what you need to keep it. Big plus, she sells Kevin Murphy products! Appointment making: Super easy and quick replies. Text friendly and convenient! Do it and you won’t regret.

Healthy Life Salon Menu with Prices 203 SE 1st Ave, Boca Raton

You will be very happy you came to this salon. My first appointment was for a color, cut and style from the owner Juli. Previously, I had been “salon hopping” trying to find just ONE salon that can achieve both an excellent color and cut….. its usually been just one or the other. I have finally found it! Her salon is very unique with pure hair and skin products and an assortment of organic teas and wine. It was a personal, relaxing experience and I felt very cared for while I was there. Juli believes in clean products for your skin and hair and is knowledgable re both. Her 30 years as a stylist place her skill level way above other stylists I have been to. She is excellent at what she does and takes her time in getting everything just right. I am grateful that I went to her salon yesterday and especially LOVE the end result…..no disappointments here!!! Sorry but I found a hair IN. MY. MOUTH. after I finished my food. No thanks. I’ll leave up my original review I posted before finding the hair but honestly? I wont be back….. Very polite and helpful staff. Super fast carryout order ESPECIALLY with it being lunch time. I’m very happy and I look forward to frequenting them throughout the semester. Food tasty too. Only negative is that I know we want smoothies to be thick. But mine is so thick and icy I cant really enjoy it or drink it with my meal. I’m waiting for it to melt because it keeps getting stuck in the straw. But that may just be a personal issue. Yum yum yum all around

Brow Heaven Threading Studio – Menu with Prices – 2315 E 7th St Ste. A, Long Beach

I will give this place another try. I recently tried this place out and as most people are, I’m super particular with my eyebrows and who does them. I researched many threading salons because I am trying to find a new salon and read the raving reviews about Rachana–and I was sold. I drove to their location excited to meet this person. I signed in and wrote her name down as my request. I am pretty sure she greeted me, based on her photo on Yelp (they don’t wear name tags so not 100% sure), but either way- I did NOT get Rachana. I was given another person without explanation. I believe she was there and possibly she was busy- who knows? I’m deducting stars for the lack of communication. Maybe I could have been offered the opportunity to wait a bit longer to wait for Rachana. As I was getting ready to pay, Rachana is the one who rang me up and wrote down the name of who threaded my eyebrows on a card, which confirmed it wasn’t Rachana who threaded my brows. So, I’ll give this place another chance to see if my request is accommodated this time before looking elsewhere. Update: 10/6 visit: I am SO glad I came back. I was able to work with Rachana and she was great. I want to make sure it’s known that my first visit wasn’t bad with her other artist- I was just bummed about the communication piece. I can say that all of the great reviews of Rachana are most definitely true. She was very thorough and knowledgeable. Her staff is also very friendly!

Appletree Burgers Fries Snacks – Menu with Prices – 184 Ridout St S, London

The food is absolutely fantastic. If you want a quick snack to a full meal, Apple Tree has a selection for you. There ready-made Jamaican patties are what originally got me going there, but they expanded there cooking. One of my favourites is the Spicy Pita Burger with an incredible mix of different vegetables and of course, there signature hot sauce. There mix of vegetables, meat (chicken or beef) and sauces (like no other) delivers a taste that will keep you wanting more. Henry and Christie bring in all different flavours and styles in there cooking while filling my belly on a weekly basis. AppleTree General Store is like no other business that I’ve been a repeat customer in. Henry and Christie are personable people who care about the community and their customers. They go out of there way to make people happy. There genuine personalities show in there love for the business and for the quality of there food. If you are looking for a quick snack or a fulfilling lunch, Henry and Christie will not disappoint you. Appletree delivers excellent value for there consumers. Not only are locals happy to eat around the corner, but they welcome people from across town, and the growing amount of customers with fresh faces show that I am not the only one enjoying there food. I recommend it to anyway who is tired of the same food downtown or in and around London, and want a unique and delicious blend that will make you ask, “what was in that!? IT WAS DELICIOUS”

Classy Brow – Menu with Prices – 265 N Federal St #147, Chandler

This lady is so funny, kind, and outgoing! She doesnâ??t just thread your eyebrows the way they are, she gives advice on what she can do to make it look better. Which I needed after my eyebrows got a little messed up by other eyebrow threading places. Sheâ??s also full of excitement! I recommend this place 100%. Will be coming back for sure!

Capital LuXe Studios Menu with Prices 301 Hooffs Run Dr #27, Alexandria

Joy is amazing! She has been taking care of my hair needs and wants since moving to the DM(V). Sometimes I’ll come in wanting a certain look/style and she’s upfront about whether or not the look will work for me. But she doesn’t just say yes or no, she’ll explain the reason why. She goes into detail, comparing my hair texture and movement with what’s needed to maintain the look. I work as a nonprofit professional in D.C., I’m always needing to look polished. But I don’t want to age myself with a mature haircut, I still have a few more years in me before I’m willing to consider myself a real adult, lol. I let her know what I’m feeling, what I have going on, and I let her do her thing. She is a true artist. Some days my hair is professional and slick, other days is messy and ready for a night out on the town. She’s also great at recommending products. I tend to be a bit lazy and only invest 5-10 mins each day styling my hair. She recommended 3 different products for different reasons, some of which she doesn’t even carry in her salon (she is very unbiased). I will say, I’ve been using these products since she recommended them for me and still love them. Once, she even picked up a paste for me cause she knew I was coming in and she wanted me to try it. She is amazing. If you’re looking for a new, reinvented look, look no further. If you want to tame it down or do it up wild, she will definitely do that for you. And, she’s honest about how it will look and what kind of maintenance you’ll need to put in before hand.
