Arguably one of the most underrated, least known gems on campus. Tucked comfortably inside the alumni center, Texas Expresso offers delicious paninis at a very affordable price. I always get either the BLT sandwich or the roast beef sandwich. Both sandwiches taste quite good because the meat juices seep into the bread when the paninis are pressed, and the sundried tomato aioli / pesto aioli are delicious dipping sauces. In my opinion (just an opinion, not a cold and hard fact), Texas Expresso can be a better deal than Fricano’s! Pro tip: If you are coming for lunch, check the Hooked App to see if Texas Expresso is offering a special: you can snag a sandwich, chips, and drink for just $5.99.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews – Menu with Prices – 4605 South Landing Way, Tucson

Red Robin – Where the food is just OK, the service is really bad and the management customer service is nice. My daughter and I arrived early to beat the crowds and hopefully have a decent meal with decent service. We beat the crowds since it wasn’t even half full yet. We ordered our drinks and the short stack of onion rings (6 rings). My drink came out quickly, but since my daughter ordered one of the Cream Sodas and it took longer for her to receive hers. After about 10 minutes after my daughter received her drink her burger showed up. She had ordered the Pigout Tavern Double Burger with their in house made chips. 10 minutes later the manager came by and told us that there was something wrong and that she would pay for the onion tower short stack. At which point she asked what I had ordered. Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that I placed my order 20 minutes ago and our onion rings 30 minutes ago and you just now tell me something was wrong. I reminded her that I had ordered the Guacamole Bacon Burger with Chipotle Aioli for my side salad. Well my burger finally showed up but instead of a container full of Chipotle Aioli, there was hardly any, maybe a quarter full (and that is stretching it). I was well into my burger when our appetizer finally showed up and my daughter was almost done with hers. They were very hot, but super greasy. The onion rings came with full containers of ranch dressing and their Camp-Fire Mayo dipping sauces. Kind of what I was expecting with the Chipotle Aioli. Maybe the Chipotle Aioli is made of gold and the 50 cent up charge for the Chipotle Aioli only gives you so much. Bottomless sides means bottomless fries. As I mentioned before I had a side salad and my daughter had the chips. We got more fries. But how can I get more fries, if I didn’t want fries. What about more chips? Or a refill on my salad with some more of that rare Chipotle Aioli. Sodas were supposed to be unlimited as well, but we were limited to one each. So, overall the food was just ok. The burgers only ok and the guacamole was spread so thin that I hardly noticed it was there. The chips were very dark (almost burnt) and had no flavor. I guess if you wanted you could have paid for some dipping sauce, but we saw how well that work with the Chipotle Aioli. It was nice the manager covered our onion rings, but there were other issue here that they need to take care of. Maybe they were a bit short staffed tonight, but when you watch her punch in the order at the table on a little handheld device, how do you lose two thirds of our order? I think after this experience we will pass on going back again.

OhBella Gelato & Crepe Cafe – Menu with Prices – 18585 Soledad Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita

I travel from San Gabriel Valley to eat here. Grade ‘A’ establishment. Great gelato, paninis, crepes (sweet or savory), great expresso, milk teas, and smoothies. Their prices are low compared to other competitors especially for the quality of food you get. Their paninis are better than Corner Bakery in my opinion. Their crepes are better than any I have had at any big chain restaurants. They have a wide variety of gelato so if u don’t see it on display, ask for different flavors. I love their smoothies and boba milk teas, not everyone knows how to make good boba pearls. Oh, and their establishment and restroom are always CLEAN. A definite must stop if you’re in the Santa Clarita area.

Panini Palace – Menu with Prices – 23120 Lyons Ave, Santa Clarita

My wife and I were in the mood for a simple lunch that was not too heavy. We looked over the choices around us and saw the good reviews for Panini Palace and as we haven’t been there though we would rely again on Yelp to help us make the choice….great idea…! In among a cluster of shops in a strip center, it was easy to find and a large enough lot had parking. When we got there it was empty except one person. We looked over the menu on the wall behind the counter and told the friendly employee we hadn’t been there before. She made a few suggestions that were popular. But looking at the wall of choices it would be difficult to decide as they all sounded great. My wife decided on the Caprese Sandwich (Mozzarella cheese, tomato, fresh basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinaigrette. Served on a French roll.) She was looking forward to this knowing what a delicious combination of mozzarella and tomato can be. We decided since the paninis were large enough and split in two we would swap halves so I really like the balsamic favor on the sandwich which was just the right amount. On the suggestion, I got the Chicken pesto but as we were eating several more people came in and chose this one on their own I guess understanding what we discovered that the chicken and creamy pesto along with the avocado were an excellent combination. Good, light lunch, delicious sandwiches and close enough so we could pick up and go. A definite five-star flavor and price.

Diamond Back Downtown – Menu with Prices – 101 N Cherry St, Winston-Salem

I love this place. I walk downtown sometimes during lunch and stop here to get take-out. It’s in the Park Building and has “order at the counter” walk up service. Their food is truly gourmet. They have tables inside and some outside in the atrium. The wait is never too long. Their ingredients are so fresh and their sandwiches and salads are innovative and delicious. I love the Ciao Bella – grilled portabella, tomato, pesto aioli, provolone, organic mixed greens and balsamic vinaigrette. The Black Bean salad or Sesame Noodles make a great side. They have homemade soups every day. Their house salad is spectactular – figs, walnuts, blue cheese, etc. You also have the option to build your own salad or sandwich ($7.95 or $6.95 respectively). Great options like cranberry mayo, horseradish sour cream, pesto aioli, avocado, kalamatas, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, capers! They make your salad chopped with dressing on the side or they’ll load it in a big stainless steel bowl and toss it. Prices are good, food is outstanding, owners are really, really nice. Big fan.

The Sandwich Spot – Menu with Prices – 6775 Sierra Center Pkwy Suite #100, Reno

So, tried this new place last week. I love a good sandwich so I was excited to check them out. Location is the old Quiznos spot in the Tarhet shopping center on South Virginia. Sadly, I was not impressed. I am so hoping it is just bugs that need to be worked out since they are fairly new but, it’s my understanding that they’ve been open for awhile now. I ordered on line. The process was smooth but I was a little dismayed that although their website lists their special sauces, there is no description of what is in the sauces. Because I have no food allergy worries, I went with their Bomb Sauce. I chose The Dream Team sandwich. Their signature sandwiches all come with lettuce, tomato, pickle, blah, blah…and peppers. I assumed pepperincinis. Nope, bell peppers. So, if you don’t like bell pepper on a sandwich, beware. Again, no clear description. Also, my sandwich was supposed to have cheddar cheese. It was american cheese. Maybe just an error but, over all, I did not enjoy my sandwich. When I picked up my order, I still did not see anything describing their sauces or type of veggies but, the staff is very nice. Seem friendly and excited to promote the place so I was willing to look the other way. I was also a bit disappointed that the website let me order Doritos but they don’t carry them. I think it’s just a little inconsistent due to those bugs that need to be worked out so not the biggest deal but I hope they get it together soon. I also wish they had a pick up area for online or called in orders. I had to wait in line behind people just ordering before I got my sandwich. Then…pricing. $16 for a so so sandwich, chips I didn’t really want and a drink. I likely won’t give them another try but, I wish them well. Update: I truly meant to give 3 stars, not two. Updated that! I didn’t realize until I saw the reply. My intention is not to hurt a new business. I just was not a fan, not worth the price in my book. I think they can make some adjustments and it will be a great place. Just not my cup of tea. I encourage all Yelpers to give them a try and decide for yourself. Thank you to the management for the kind offer to retry on their dime. I will likely pass. Not out of any ill feelings. Simply because nothing was so wrong that it should cost the owner. I love trying new places but I’m always going to give my honest opinion. Best to you as your sandwich shop grows.

Elixir Espresso – Menu with Prices – 10427 W Aero Rd, Spokane

Went there on my way to work. Asked for a quad Expresso blended drink. Looking through the window and saw that she didn’t put any Expresso in my drink. I asked her if she put any espresso in my drink and she looked at me and said yes. She also said she mixed it with a ice cream base that i didn’t ask for. So I pulled off and went in and had the other girl make it. She have it to me and you could clearly see the difference between the two drinks. If I didn’t go in and had another drink made I would have paid $9.00 for a milkshake which is “exactly” what someone neede before working all day! She never said sorry either.

Chellas Arepa Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1830 Hempstead Rd, Lancaster

So after 2 months of over thinking about going to this place I finally made the plan and time to go and try some Arepas. Oh boy if I’m glad we did, of course first I made sure they were open til 7pm because first I wanted to do some shopping in Lancaster. So after walking around I decided to drive here and first thing I noticed as soon as we get out of the truck the wonderful smell. We wanted to sample a little bit of everything so we ordered a Pernil, a Chicken and a Lomito saltado one. Also we ordered some yuca. And the sauces we decided to try all three the chimichurri the aioli and the angry llama. Ok the arepas hands down are so delicious and to my honest opinion this is the best latin food I’ve had here in Harrisburg Lancaster area. While every kind of Arepa has its own exquisite and unique flavor my favorite was the Pernil the pork was just so flavorful and tender and delicious. It went perfect with a mix of the aioli and the angry llama. My second favorite was the Lomito saltado it had so much flavor and the way they mixed all the ingredients was just fantastic last but not least the chicken one really really good the chicken was so tender and juicy and has a delicious taste. The yuca was amazing just the right crunchy and delicious it went perfect with all sauces. What else can I say This place it’s an absolute winner and can’t wait to go back and have some delicious food and enjoy the outdoor seating with a cold Sangria and some super amazing Arepas. Keep cooking this delicious food please! And of course I will recommend them! Try something different and enjoy!

Thayer Street Deli – Menu with Prices – 267 Thayer St, Providence

Was excited to see that someone had filled the pace vacated by sandwich. Stopped in for a quick bite on a Sunday afternoon. There is a pretty varied menu (I assume based on the proximity to Brown and student preferences) in my opinion this may be the downfall. A friend and I split a couple of sandwiches; the Reuben and the Chicken Pesto. The Chicken Pesto was a decent sandwich with well flavored grilled chicken and the melted Mozzarella cheese. The Reuben was fairly regular and nothing jumped out. The meal comes with fries, a larger steak fry, nothing spectacular.

Stella’s Modern Pantry – Menu with Prices – 20 SW Broadway St, Ocala

Great healthy options and super friendly staff (that even make recommendations if you struggle with a decision). They also have many items for sale in the gift shop (cooking gadgets, aprons, kitchen utensils and wine, just to name a few). My friend had the artichoke/sundried tomato flatbread & loved it, while I had the roasted vegetable sandwich (on a baguette) with a side of chick pea salad. Delicious! All fresh ingredients and farm to table practice. Would highly recommend.

Treehouse Cafe – Menu with Prices – 11450 Fourth St Suite 105, Rancho Cucamonga

When looking for a place to eat while in Ontario, came across the Treehouse Café. Seemed reminiscent of the boba cafés back in the 626, so decided to give it a try. Located right across from Ontario Mills in a small plaza with plenty of parking. Interior is pretty comfy with a lot of space. Since I came in the middle of a weekday, the place wasn’t too filled – several customers studying and working on their laptops. I can see the place being more busy on weekends with students taking advantage of the free WiFi. Very clean and modern looking aesthetics. There’s a brick wall with very cool looking clocks while the other walls are painted a lime green with wooden furniture to go with the color scheme. Their menu is super simple – there’s a few sandwich options (hot and cold), toasts/bagels, desserts (macarons, vegan donuts, puff custards – all made by other companies), and of course coffees and teas. Decided to give their sandwiches a try since we were already there, and judging from the many positive reviews, most Yelpers seem to really enjoy their hot sandwiches. Chicken Pesto with side salad ($8.50) – automatically came in a to-go box even though were dined in. Portion size of the salad was good – came with a vinaigrette sauce on the side. Salad had sundried tomatoes and feta or goat cheese crumbles mixed in as well. Was not a fan of the cheese at all, but I enjoyed the sundried tomatoes mixed in with the greens. As for the chicken pesto, probably one of their more popular sandwiches and I can see why. Portion wise, the sandwich was a little on the small side. Grilled chicken, mozzarella, house made pesto on top of sourdough bread. Can’t go wrong with the ingredients – the only thing lacking in the sandwich was the sun-dried tomatoes. It seemed like they had forgotten to include the tomatoes in the sandwich, so I used the bits from the salad to add to the sandwich. I really wanted to go with the Tuna Melt, but I was convinced that that sandwich is much easier to concoct at home on my own, thus I was swayed to try the Spicy Turkey Chipotle (also $8.50 with the same side salad on the side). This sandwich was underwhelming at best – came with some oven roasted turkey, spicy chipotle spread, avocado, and cheddar cheese on top of sourdough. Unfortunately the turkey just seemed like the slices you’d find in the prepackaged meats at the grocery store – no hint of it being roasted at all. The chipotle spread was not spicy and did little to add to the flavor of the sandwich, and the avocado was hidden behind the cheddar cheese flavor. The sandwich was bland and not tasty and not something I’d order again. As for the drinks – they looked very promising, so I ordered the almond milk tea with mini boba and adjusted sugar and ice accordingly to my preference. I don’t know how they made the almond milk tea, but it did not taste like the almond milk teas I’ve ever had at other boba stores. The almond flavoring they used had very minimal hints of almond flavor at all – so it was like drinking a milk tea that had been watered down. The mini boba was very mushy and had no flavor. For $4.75, I expected a lot more from the boba. We also ordered a taro milk tea; so this drink was adjusted to have no sugar. I’m not sure if that affected the flavors, but it tasted almost exactly like the almond milk tea – no hint of taro at all inside of a milk tea that was super dark and not reminiscent of what taro milk tea usually looks like. The drink wasn’t sweet, but had no strong milk or tea flavor to it either – at $4.75 for a large, this was ultimately very disappointing. Service was pretty friendly when approached with questions. Bathrooms are very clean and they have some games on the side for customers to use if you want something to do. tl;dr – Was underwhelmed by the drinks that we ordered here. Maybe coffee would have been a better choice? Enjoyed the chicken pesto, but the spicy turkey chipotle was a miss. A little disappointed in the overall visit

Brixx Craft House Menu with Prices 7700 W State St, Boise

I was so excited to try this place. The reviews were excellent, and the pictures looked awesome. When we walked in. The ambiance was great. We were sat quickly, and told they were running behind, so please be patient. So we were. Things weren’t going fast, but not slow either. We got beers, and asked for waters. The appetizers were a bit slow, but nothing crazy especially since the we’re running behind. Then the food came out. My wife ordered the ahi sandwich with honey ginger aioli, and I got the killer Mac burger. The ahi sandwich had no aioli on it so it was essentially ahi toast. Very dry. When this was brought up with our server, she didn’t know if it was supposed to come with the aioli, even though that’s how it’s listed on the menu. Then she kind of argued with us, saying it had just melted into the bread. Seemed reasonable. So she brought us a side of aioli, and the flavor was so strong (and good) there was no way it was on the bread. So now my wife was just dipping ahi in the aioli. The killer Mac burger was huge, it had a fried patty of Mac and cheese on top, excellent concept, but it was so burned that it just tasted like charcoal. So I took it off and tried to keep eating, but then realized the burger was burned as well. I was eating slowly since my wife didn’t really have her food yet. So I didn’t realize how burned it was until a few bites in. But the waitress seemed to catch on that we weren’t overly pleased with the food. We weren’t being mean or rude, busy nights happen. No problem. We figured they would at least comp the ahi toast, but they did not. I am sure it was just a bad night, but it made quite the impression.

Lemon Leaf Cafe – Menu with Prices – 916 W Burbank Blvd Suite H, Burbank

Great quality, healthy food. My first time there, I had their super delicious turkey sandwich on a pretzel bun with a side salad, plus fresh pineapple lemonade. Lots of great flavor, with aioli, pickles, red onion and melted cheddar on a pretzel bun. Mixed greens side salad was lightly dressed in a tasty vinaigrette. On another visit I tried the chicken pesto sandwich on ciabatta, which was also really good. The decor is kinda sparse and utilitarian, but they’re just starting out. Go for the food, not the ambience. I’ve been a couple of times, and the restaurant is clean and the service is friendly. The prices are perfectly fair — ~$9 for a sandwich and side salad. Not sure what Grace M’s deal was [1-star review], but not being Instagram worthy and charging a small fee for credit card purchases shouldn’t garner a poor review that could hurt a business. Some people! Don’t listen to grumpy Grace. The food is good here. Give it a try! (I don’t review every place I visit, and this was good enough that I wanted to tell you about it. That should say something.)
