My friend was excited she had a spot close to her that sold elote so she wouldn’t have to head out to East LA so I had to try it with her. She got a regular esquite and I got a hot Cheetos esquite. Oh, it’s bad. The corn is canned, first of all. No corn is that shade of yellow and all uniformly the same shape. If it were “off the corn” I’d see columns and rows of corn sticking together after the knife slices the corn off. Second, they add about an entire cup of cotija cheese. On my hot Cheetos esquite! There should have been no cotija at all. Hot Cheetos dust is enough, but adding the cotija overpowered it. It was double the powder and double the salt. Two bites was all I could take. The regular esquite had a lot of cotija cheese too. I also included a photo of my esquite so nobody could say I didn’t go or I didn’t try it from here because I know people are so quick to judge. The elote is just nasty. Go to East LA, I knew there was something off.

Paleteria Morelia – Menu with Prices – 880 S Wells Ave, Reno

After spending several days trying to go to another antojitos/raspados place only to find it closed, I was excited that Antojitos Colibri was open! It’s a tiny shop on Wells that you could drive right past if you’re not paying attention. Upon walking in we were greeted by a friendly worker. There are lots of options ranging from raspados (shaved ice), aguas frescas, elotes, to your basic ice cream. We ordered fresas con crema (strawberries and cream) with natural strawberries (instead of frozen) and all the toppings (coconut, granola, sprinkles, M&M’s and whipped cream). The item itself is nothing fancy but it was exactly what I wanted on a warm summer night. We also tried the Hot Cheetos Esquite basically elote in a cup with crushed hot Cheetos. So good! It had a well rounded flavor and both the corn and Cheetos weren’t soggy. All the fun of elote without the mess! I usually wait until I’ve been to a place a couple times to rate on consistency and to try more of the menu but I was really satisfied with my experience and hope this review encourages more people to stop by and give them a try! Don’t be intimidated if you’ve never been before! The staff was very nice and receptive! Definitely worth a visit! Can’t wait to come back!

El kiosco mexican snacks – Menu with Prices – 8929 N Central Ave #103, Phoenix

Snscks were great their piña and coco loco was delicious! I also tried their nachos with cheetos and they top it off with cotija cheese which at first sight was a bit odd but hey cheese on top of cheese isn’t bad. I’ll be going back to try their raspados, helados, aguas and this monstrous snack called elote chorriado basically esquites surtounded by Nachos all buried in melted cheese

Zero Degrees – Menu with Prices – 7480 W Bell Rd #108, Glendale

Let me just start by saying the drinks are really good. I did enjoy the strawberry horchata I ordered. All the drinks looked bomb, my friend ordered the piña colada and that was also good too. But when it came to the food it was trash. The elote tasted dry, not enough mayo and cheese in it. I felt like I was eating spicy canned white corn. I think I ordered the hot Cheetos elote and it was so dry, they put too much hot Cheetos in there thats all I could taste. The WORST elote I ever tasted in my life. I ordered the buffalo wings, they didn’t even taste like buffalo wings I was so disappointed. It tasted like baked honey glazed wings with the tiniest cup of ranch. Huge waste of money, don’t order the food it looks appetizing but taste like crap. Only get the drinks.

501 International Grill – Menu with Prices – 1346 US-501, Myrtle Beach

Had two meals from this restaurant mid-May 2017. Ordered Oxtails, mac & cheese, & cabbage. Was slightly disappointed because a few of the items which I would have ordered off the menu weren’t available until the following day. What I initially noticed was the amount of bones floating in the oxtail pan. Other than that, visually, everything else looked fine; unfortunately, it did not taste that way. I can’t even remember the last time I had to go into my spice cabinet to retrieve the salt, pepper, garlic power, and onion powder in order for my food to have a taste I could tolerate, but I had to that day. Oh, and even after adding those, I chased each bite with Jalapeno Cheetos! THAT actually did the trick for me!! Two meals and both were rather bad and neither of us could finish. The rolls were good, but they were brand/store bought. On a positive note, the customer service was fantastic ! Really awesome people there!!!

First of all, this place has a really stupid name! It doesn’t seem to represent any of their menu items. It sounds more like a place that sells nitrogen ice cream or something. Because of the name, I walked right by it. However, I saw someone’s crazy mac and cheese and decided to check it out. The menu has an unusual combination of Mexican and Asian food/drinks (street corn and boba tea right next to each other). Again, this doesn’t fit with the name at all. Because I came here after a moonshine flight at Mashed next door, “Constant companion” took over and ordered for us. He got us elotes with framin’ hot Cheetos and a cucumber limeade. Side note: the menu calls them “elotes” but they are what I know as “esquites.” It’s corn off of the cob in a bowl. Whatever you call them, they were soooo good. They came with crema and cotija and were also topped with fluffy ground flamin’ hot Cheetos. It was perfect! Also, they had some green tomatillo-like sauce drizzled on top. We squeezed the lime wedge out too, which added a nice sourness. Long story short, I loved this snack! It’s the perfect late night comfort food! My only complaint (besides the name of the restaurant) is that it wasn’t spicy at all. The cucumber limeade was also really good! And it went perfectly with the esquites. I will definitely be back. Luckily, it seems like there are quite a few locations! Next time, I want to try the horchata.

Bandido Taqueria Mexicana – Menu with Prices – 905 E Liberty St, Louisville

I keep forgetting to take pictures so close your eyes while you read this and use your imagination. I got the fish taco (fried), Maui Wowie (el pastor), and the carnitas tacos, plus an original elote. The tacos were good street tacos on small corn tortillas, they only have corn taco tortillas. Each taco had a slaw mixture that complimented the protein. The fish was a nice battered fillet that fit well in the tortilla. The el pastor taco could have used more meat and pineapple, the pork seemed a little under seasoned. I did really like the condiment bar. The serrano and habanero salsas had great flavor. You can actually taste the name sake pepper in each without them burning out your pallet. The pickled onions were superb, thin slices of habanero provided a nice secondary flavor with a kick. The best for last is the elote. Excellent ear of corn with large juicy kernels, coated in Mexican table cream, chili powder, cheese, and with a twist a red “enchilada” sauce. All on an easy to consume stick, it was my favorite. I love knowing I can grab some quick street tacos during my lunch break.

American Deli – Menu with Prices – 2704 S Elm-Eugene St, Greensboro

Unfortunately, this place has declined rapidly, right along with their health inspection rating which was given just a month ago. I opened the door ready for some good ol’ wings and ended up walking right out. When I entered the cashier was at the front talking to the cook while eating hot Cheetos, that’s right, at the front laughing carrying on and eating hot Cheetos with no regard for future customers. As soon as I looked at her she put the hot Cheetos away and move forward, closer to the register to take my order (without washing her hands or even wiping the Cheeto dust off her hands at all â?), all the while Jarett peeked at their inspection rating which was a 90, an A-, that may seem okay to some but not to me. Especially because I know you have to have more than a handful of infractions to get this type of score. Hell, Burger King has a higher rating . Needless to say, I’m glad I didn’t eat here, and I wanted to update my review because my previous review does not represent the current state of the restaurant.

El Green-Go’s Menu with Prices 390 L St, Anchorage

I finally got over to this little food….truck? Stand? Walk-up restaurant? Oasis? today and I’m kicking myself for not trying it sooner. The burritos are AMAZING. My husband got a plain chicken burrito while I opted to get mine ‘wet’ with their roasted poblano sauce – you know you made a good choice when the girl taking your order can’t help but say “yum.” And yum it was. This burrito was HUGE, I’m writing this at 6pm and all I’ve eaten today was half that burrito, and I’m still satisfied. It was filled with ample amounts of seasoned chicken, rice, beans, corn salsa (omg, a burrito with no plain pico!), some sort of creamy sauce and cotija cheese. That alone would have been amazing but it was topped with house roasted poblano sauce, more creamy sauce, more cotija cheese, and more corn salsa. It was like eating an elote with my burrito. I really liked that the sauce was proportional to my burrito and had a really nice, deep flavor. Sometimes wet burritos are just slathered in the most amount of generic red enchilada sauce, but not this guy. My only critique, and it isn’t even a critique, is that my husband complained there was no sour cream & couldn’t notice the subtle creamy sauce — but judging by his current food coma, I don’t think that was a dealbreaker. The price was a little steep, but the portions are large, the ingredients are fresh and high quality, and the staff is super nice. I’d gladly pay $15 for this big chonker of a burrito & to support a great local business. Also, I hear they sometimes make mole specials and I’ll DEFINITELY be back to try that.

Elotes Juniors Menu with Prices 700 Secretary Dr, Arlington

It’s my favorite elote stand. And it’s 1 minute from my house. One thing I hate about the majority of spots you can get a legit elote- they mix the mayo and crema. Da fuq? I don’t like mayo in my elote and you force this upon me- ninja-ing it into my beloved crema??!! Savages. I had one heathen tell me you can’t tell.. I can tell you evil wench! My homie at this stand doesn’t put me in that horrible situation where I walk away with a sad cup of corn swimming in lime and hot sauce. He even layers all the mix ins and will put it in a bigger cup so you don’t have to stir so vigorously. He always has a squad with him- just a bunch of old schools sitting around his stand- its a little odd but don’t let it put you off. This gas station is shady AF- but the elote is so legit. He has other stuff too. When I get the nachos he puts the cheese and jalapenos separate in a cup so its not all soggy when I get home. So considerate. ive never gotten anything else, but he has other Mexican Munchies. He doesn’t really have set hours/ days- if the weather is nice enough to be outside he’s there. I have never seen him past 1030pm, but I have no idea what time he sets up in the morning.

Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita Menu with Prices 2911 Columbia Pike, Arlington

Do it. Do it. Do it! The food here was so good it honestly saved my Saturday! How it works: order, pay, and your receipt number is how the food runner will deliver your food to your table (self seating) Service: the cashier was nice and apologetic (about the misunderstanding), a busser is on the lookout for empty dishes to clear your table (You’re safe! They don’t hover!), the tables are prepped with utensils/napkin caddies, salsa verde y roja, and radishes for the table Our food came out quickly and deliciously! Atmosphere: If you’ve ever been to Mexico, you’ll appreciate the decor and vibes of the employees. So bright and comfortable. Plenty of seating and family friendly. Food: Do it.. Torta Cubana- All da meat: Mexican chorizo, ham, steak, hot dog! Plus cheese, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, pickled jalapeños, and a fresh omelette blanket! Taco al Pastor- Corn tortillas (Yasss the real deal double up!), pulled pork and pineapple goodness topped with cilantro, raw and grilled onions with cucumber, radish and lime slices on the side. Carne Asada Taco- Same style as above except New York steak. She a classic! “Grilled corn” aka ELOTE! Real deal over here! They got the mayo, they got the cheese, they got the spices, they got the limon on the side! They got you with that Tajin y’all! (unique chili powder for the people who not hip yet) While I was busy reading the menu, my friend accidentally ordered 2 of the same sandwiches. To avoid drama, I just took the second sandwich. I kid you not I had one bite of my torta and got up to order more food. I’m not in Arlington often and didn’t want to go home with FOMO. I wanted to try their tacos and elote. I was not disappointed! Everything was on point! I came in thinking my Saturday was ruined, and their food lifted me up. I can’t help but share my great experience with anyone who will listen, and I can’t wait to come back! I felt the love, and I walked out happy as can be! Con mucho mucho AMOOOOR!

Sonora Cocina Mexicana Menu with Prices 89 Patton Ave, Asheville

Most places in Asheville we found on yelp surprisingly close at 10pm so we were pleased to find this place is open until about 1am. It’s in the heart of downtown so we parked a few blocks away and walked. It wasn’t packed so we didn’t have to cram, although the service was great anyway so even if they were busy we would’ve gotten superb service. The waiter was extremely personable and took great care of our table even though we sat in the corner of the restaurant. We got pork belly tacos, elote off the cob, and the torta special (pork belly). The water is served in the glass jar just a little chilled but left on the table so we could refill for ourselves. The elote off the cob used fresh corn and not canned. You can tell by how the kernels stuck together as if cut off the cob. My pork tacos were delicious. I thought the torta had too many flavors going on but my boyfriend who ordered it loved it. The tacos had two layers of corn tortillas and was just a little crisped at the edges which I loved. Two tacos never seems like enough to fill me up but it did! I couldn’t finish the elote.

Emilia’s Pizzeria Menu with Prices 2995 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley

4.5 stars. Not the most legendary, but for East Coast style pie, it lives up. If you’re an East Coaster, and when I say East Coaster, I really mean northeasterner, the pizza scene out here is eh to fine. Yeah, you have the likes of Cheeseboard, but we don’t consider that pizza, more like a flatbread. Yeah, you have delicious neopolitan pies like Lucia’s, but again, sometimes you just want a regular pie. Nick’s has been our go-to, with their California twist, and we still got love for it, but Emilia’s hits it home. Emilia’s has been on my radar since moving to Berkeley a few years ago. Mystery calls and wait-times, weird hours, these legendary Yelp reviews… We finally got our sh*t together, and called at 4pm. We had to call a few times to get through and the earliest pick up was 6pm. It’s one dude. He picks up the phone, he makes the pizza, he takes your money. He’s listening to the Yankee’s, he’s not trying to get to know you, but he’s making some good NY style ‘za. For the most part, Emilia’s lives up to the hype and wins the best traditional style pie I’ve had while living it up in Cali. We went with the regular and the Gina Calabrese and it was so delicious. Nice crust, although a little chewy at the end, great toppings – not overloaded with cheese or sauce, letting that salty sopressata really shine thru. $20 for a regular pie and $26 for the meat. They really only do a few different toppings, so if you’re looking for a Hawaiian, or goat cheese and corn, this isn’t the spot for you.
