People sure do love their breakfasts! We were on the way to the airport, and since we had plenty of time. We decided to stop for a quick bite, instead of potentially suffering through the drudgery of airport food. We surmised that since we were all the way in the suburbs, the lines couldn’t possibly be that long – right? Boy, were we wrong! It was a 30-minute wait, which wound up being approximately 40 minutes by the time we were seated. Nonetheless, it was worth the wait. Nick, our server was prompt and efficient. I love efficiency. I’m not one for chitchat when I’ve been waiting for food for quite some time. And he picked up on that very quickly, with a smile. I wanted to try one of their specialties, which was the German Pancake. I ordered it as a combo. I chose scrambled eggs, Honey Bacon, and a pair of sausages. My wife ordered the traditional pancake combo, with scrambled eggs and Honey Bacon. The German Pancake (aka Dutch Baby Pancake) is basically a crepe, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Lemons are added to add some zest to the taste. It was quite delicious. And there was so much of it that I just could not muster the appetite to finish it all. My wife and I agreed that the scrambled eggs were just okay. The same could be said for their sausages. However, their Honey Bacon was quite thick and crispy. We both wished that we had ordered more of it, and just skipped the eggs and my sausages. My wife’s pancakes were quite fluffy and had wonderfully crispy edges to them. I can see now why the locals flocked to this establishment. They have a great combination of great breakfast foods (for the most part), and wonderful service. Nick really did a good job of checking in with us, despite the throngs of people continually piling in during that morning. Although, we don’t live near the area. We would stop by again, should we wander along this merry path!

Ye Olde Pancake House – Menu with Prices – 2421 W 11th Ave, Eugene

Ye Olde Pancake House is just that–a pancake house. I wasn’t expecting gourmet food, nor is it. But, their food is good quality, the place is clean, and the price is right. I usually get their # 3, which is two eggs, two bacon, two pancakes. Eggs were scrambled, tasted good. Bacon was relatively thick, seemed good quality. Pancakes were large, and tasty…perhaps could be a little more fluffy/tender…but were still good. The best part is their house coffee. I’m not a coffee snob, but I don’t drink folgers and the like. Their house coffee is really good. If you’re looking for a simple, tasty, filling, no-frills breakfast, I suggest you give them a try. I suppose for what they are, I should give them 5 stars. But Yelp’s system for 5 stars is “as good as it gets”.

The Rooster’s Call – Menu with Prices – 6050 Gull Rd, Kalamazoo

Normally I make my breakfast at home or have a cereal bar. But today some friends wanted us to go out for breakfast. They’ve drive this location many times and wanted to try. So I got to go with them and try it out. As you can tell by the pictures it’s really cute inside. You’re given menus quickly as well. Drink orders are taken first and then you have plenty of time to look at the menu. They serve both breakfast and lunch, so just in case you’re feeling a waffle, or burger. We got a bunch of stuff just to try everything out. Eggs, bacon, and potatoes! I had to be extra since I was really hungry. I got a chocolate banana French toast, egg and bacon on the side, and a club wrap with fries. The French toast was ok, it felt like the chocolate was more bitter like dark chocolate, but it looked milky. The banana saved it though and gave it an even sweetness. As for the club that I also had. I really felt like it was lacking something and I feel like that something was cheese. I’m not really sure if it had cheese on it or it doesn’t come with it. But it certainly needs a cheese to balance out all the meat. Still very good though, best wrap I’ve had in a while! I really wish I got sunny-side up eggs. I got scrambled eggs and no matter where, my scrambled eggs taste like they came from a box. Heartbreaking. But the bacon, is just so bacon, and I LOVE bacon!

German Sausage Co – Menu with Prices – 4900 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix

Looking for authentic German sausages and deli meats? This is the place to go. Everything is fresh and tasty, just like the deli meats in Germany. It’s no wonder. The owner is a genuine German-trained certified German butcher – his German diploma is displayed proudly on the wall. We went a little crazy with our order since we haven’t had good German “wurst” in ages. All the pork stores (as they are known back home in New Jersey) are gone, their owners either slamming little white balls across manicured turf in Florida or telling the “wurst” jokes up in heaven. We took home Leberkaess (for breakfast tomorrow with eggs over easy), Zungenwurst (ate it the minute we got home – nicely seasoned and very tasty), Sulze (we call it Zitterwurst in Bavaria – translated = giggle or shaking sausage) that is so authentic I wanted to cry, and my absolute favorite – Bierschinken. That got eaten too the minute we got home. I almost forgot. The pair of Landjaeger sausages never made it home. They got devoured in the car while we sat in traffic on the 51 north. Tears of joy ran down my cheeks, that’s how yummy they are. But wait, there’s more! This establishment also offers German dairy products like seasoned herb butter, real Limburger cheese and Quark. And German vinegar, sauerkraut, red cabbage, sauces, gravies and soups mixes from Germany, and so much more… even magazines from Germany. And the counter service was excellent. There’s nothing better than wurst with a smile. And imagine our surprise when we found the end piece of Gelbwurst in our bag – gratis. Will we go back? You betcha! And soon!

Carolina Pancake House – Menu with Prices – 2800 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach

Not at all busy on a Saturday morning, but I thinks that’s more that we are early risers. They were very acclimating even with our stroller that we walked up with. I ordered the Carolina pancake special-2 pancakes and while on the menu they are plain you can modify them to any of the pancakes so I chose the Hawaiian style, which comes with pineapple and coconut. Who wouldn’t want dessert for breakfast? It also came with two eggs and two slices of bacon or sausage. My husband also ordered the same but got the plain pancakes. The coffee was good and fresh and I liked that they left a carafe on the table so we could refill our cups. The food came quickly and everything was delicious. The bacon was crispy, which I loved, and the eggs were definitely fresh and real. Sometimes places use the liquid or bagged eggs and it never tastes the same. The Hawaiian style pancakes were absolute perfection. I’m a ditz and at one point poured coffee on my pancakes instead of syrup (even though the carafe doesn’t look alike at all). Though slightly soggier it actually didn’t taste bad with the additional coffee flavoring. Our waitress was great and took good care of us. You pay up front at the register which works fine for me because then you aren’t waiting for the waitress. Wonderful place. I know there are lots of pancake places nearby but this one definitely gets a vote from me.

Bottle Rocket Beer Reserve – Menu with Prices – 2182 Seneca St, Buffalo

If you are a craft beer lover then there is only one stop for you when visiting the area, BRBR. Nick, the owner, is everything you want in a craft beer store owner. I inquired about some available beers on their FB page asking for price and limits. He responded it was “4” and I made the 30 minute drive to the location to buy the particular beers. The employee told me the limit was “2” so I bought my beers and left. I returned to the FB page to correct the person who told me “4” to ensure they knew what I thought was the correct number. Nick responded that his employee was wrong and I then realized he was the owner. He offered to drive to me 30+ minutes to deliver the beers. I told him it wasn’t necessary because I was planning to stop by again the next day. Nick was working and proceed to open no less than 5 different beers (Special OH collabs, new joose release from a local spot, Hill Farmstead, etc). He shared everything with my colleagues who weren’t beer drinkers. By the end of our pre-airport stop, he hooked us up with recommendations for wings and pizza (Imperials pizza was phenomenal BTW). Can’t say enough about this spot and the owner. Every my coworkers were so impressed with how engaging and welcoming Nick was and offered to help find local beers they would enjoy back in Atlanta. Again if you are a beer person this is your spot. If you aren’t a beer person, still stop in and Nick will assist you in finding beers that I’m sure will surprise you.

Blue Danube Sausage House – Menu with Prices – 3090 Lenworth Dr, Mississauga

I heard a lot of good things about this place so I decided to stop in over my lunch to grab some sausages for dinner. It’s located on Chauncey, which is just off Islington (south of Bloor) – an industrial-type street. They have enough parking for about five cars (I think) right at the front but there’s ample street parking as well. I was kind of surprised when I went in because it’s quite small. There were only three people working there at the time so I had to wait a little bit but, no big deal, I wasn’t in a hurry. I was served by the older lady and, honestly, I wished the blonde guy had of served me because he was so friendly that I could have asked him for some suggestions on smoked sausages – maybe next time I’ll talk to him. Anyway, I ended up getting three Double Garlic sausages and one Hot Hungarian, which, by the way, when grilled and coupled with Dimpflmeier’s hot dog buns, were out of this world – we’re definitely going to get them again as they were exceptional! Better than anything at St. Lawrence Market. Really, really that good! Since a lot of people were coming in for the schnitzel sandwich, I decided to try one too. The piece of schnitzel itself was only $5.00; however, the (small) sandwich was $7.00 and I had to pay extra for pickles but I’m not sure if I got charged extra for the garlic mayonnaise. I don’t really quite understand how they can justify charging $2.00 for a Kaiser bun and charging extra for some pickles but, anyhow, it’s not like I have Hungarian schnitzel everyday. The entire bill (four sausages and the sandwich) came to just under $20.00. As for the schnitzel sandwich, I was a little disappointed because I expected the meat to be hot (not room temperature). The small sandwich was so HUGE that I could only eat half and I was extremely full afterwards. I liked the combination of the garlic mayonnaise and the kosher dills; the Kaiser bun was nice quality – very fresh. I’m still on the fence with the schnitzel itself though – maybe because it wasn’t hot. Nevertheless, it wasn’t greasy but, not like I’m an aficionado on schnitzel, still I’ve had better. I gave my husband the other half; he ate it for “breakfast” the next morning and thought it was outstanding. He went on and on about how great it was and how quickly he ate it and wished there were more! I definitely plan to return in the near future so I can try and assortment of the smoked sausages and more of those Hot Hungarians!

Jeffrey’s Hillside Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2901 4th St, Santa Rosa

It’s been years since I have been to this establishment, and shame on me. It looks updated so I don’t know if it’s a new owner since I have been here or not. What I do know is I will be back more frequently. The menu has all of your traditional breakfast selections with a few delightful surprises. How about Brussels sprouts hash with bacon in which I almost ordered but decided on Jeffery’s special. Omg! Chicken livers, bacon, herb scrambled eggs, country potatoes and toast! Delicious to the max!! Service,is friendly and the two servers worked hand in hand to help all guests. You can eat inside or outside depending on the weather. Can’t wait to come back!

Coffee Fixx Menu with Prices 3020 SW 6th Ave, Amarillo

Twice before I meant to go here but I kept ending up at the wrong place. Today I got it right and was sure glad I did. This is a great little spot, only open till 2 p.m. but their breakfast is great. I bet their other food is too. I got the breakfast special which was $6 for two eggs, choice of meat, hash browns and choice of toast or pancake. I’m not a big pancake fan but I had a good feeling about this place so I ordered it. The pancake was wonderful. The eggs were wonderful. I wish I had remembered to ask the guy to cook the hash browns extra crispy but they were still good flavored. Oh, and the breakfast includes coffee. Triple strength coffee. I haven’t had coffee that strong for ages. I may not sleep for a week. I forgot to ask the guy behind the counter if he was the owner (I’m pretty sure he was) or just a very good employee but he was very pleasant, welcoming, and informative when I asked questions. I thought maybe the place was new since I hadn’t heard of it before but he said they’ve been there for 2 years so maybe it just didn’t show up on my Yelp results because it’s too far from where I’m staying. Do I recommend this place to others? Absolutely!

Village Meat Market & Café – Menu with Prices – 92 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids

On a girlfriend road trip and decided to stop in Cedar Rapids for a quick bite. The place was packed, I think a family birthday party so it took awhile to get our food. However it was worth the wait. I had the Diana sandwich and Iit was the best ham I’ve ever had. Very lean and flavorful. Friend had the pancake, egg, (she said pancake was delicious) and bacon which she gave to me. Thick cut, lean and cooked to perfection, crispy but not overdone. Excellent flavor. There was a two man band playing. Music was nice but a little loud so it was difficult to talk. Not sure if it was for the ‘party’ or if it’s ongoing. Quaint place, sit family style at long tables. Note, you pay after you eat at the counter and there is a tip jar, kind of hidden. There are servers that take your order and bring you your food. Reasonably priced. Is a deli also.

Asmara Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5020 Telegraph Ave, Oakland

My wife & I were coming home after a Cal football game & decided to stop for dinner. Driving on Telegraph, there are numerous Ethiopian & Eritrean restaurants. So we decided to try one & we chose Asmara Restaurant. The Wait Staff was outstanding. Extremely friendly, very helpful. They were a huge part of us enjoying our meal. Always checking on us, making sure my water glass was full. Our first time at a Eritrean restaurant so we didn’t know what to order. We noticed that everyone was eating with their hands, so that was really interesting. Our waitress recommended a combo plate w/ lamb, chicken & beef. This huge platter arrives & the combo we ordered, along with vegetables & a platter of what looks like pancakes. I ripped off some of the pancake, scooped up some food & ate it. It was very tasty & delicious. We ate the entire platter. We were both very satisfied with our meal & it was also very inexpensive. I’m sure we’ll be back & I can’t wait to return so we can try something different.

Breakfast Republic – Menu with Prices – 4213 Campus Dr Suite P166B, Irvine

Wait: 1.5 hours as quoted (Sunday morning brunch.. no surprise) TLDR: Poor/inexperienced service. Over hyped flavors and food options. Hard Pass – Will not recommend or return ——————– SERVICE: Poor – It boils down to the staff not taking initiative to ask/suggest how they can improve someones experience. They are clearly overwhelmed and lack the energy to take that extra moment to help someone out. Examples: Was not asked if we preferred inside or out side seating, ended up seated outside and it was cold, and they have metal chairs. Ordered the gluten free french toast. Was told they were sold out. I just waited nearly 2 hours at this point to be told they dont have what I came here for. There was absolutely no attempt to recommend another option, she just stood there and stared at me, glad for a break or something. I had to ask her to step away while I read through the menu again. They share a wall with a Trader Joes, I should have walked over and bought them the ingredients for this menu option. My wife ordered the Cafe de Ollah. had to ask where her order was, then the waitress remembered, “Oh we are out of that.” AGAIN, did not reccomend any other coffee options just this attitude of “well that sucks hu?” AGAIN, they share their OTHER wall with a coffee shop. For breakfasts sake, go get some crappy drip coffee and start offering that? Oh, and do you think we had silverware when our food finally showed up? Of course not. Then we were over charged on our bill. They some how decided to charge for extra eggs. ————————————— Food: Boring and Gross – I am not expecting a lot out of pancakes and an egg sandwich. But they managed to really let us down. Examples: Churro pancakes – You will see in other reviews that people feel pretty “meh” about the pancakes here. this really was just a pancake with a little cinnamon on top. Its basically a switch and bait with the name of the dish and what you get. Nice fluffy pancake tho, would not have been disappointed if they had just advertised it as a plain ol’ pancake. Breakfast Sandwich – This one was gross. Their bacon is a thick cut and caked in brown sugar. Turns out, I do not care for that combo (brown sugar syrup on fried eggs and tomato) Just skip this one… ————————– Some folks at the table behind me put it well “We should have gone to McDonalds” hard pass

The Daily Ration – Menu with Prices – 1220 Dartmouth St, Chattanooga

We visited at 12:30 on Sunday and had such a wonderful experience that we are planning a return visit this weekend. We live almost 2 hours away so this is significant in itself. The only downside was waiting an hour for a table, then another hour for food to arrive. However we enjoyed the wait by playing corn hole, and mingling with the many ?fur babies? that accompanied other patrons. My daughters ?kids meal? had a HUGE helping of eggs, giant pancake and 2 slices of bacon. All of this for $6.00! My fried chicken and grits was good, and would have been excellent had I not tried my husbands ?southern eggs Benedict?. Once I did I cld barely remember anything else. The combo of candied bacon, runny egg told, crunchy sourdough & pimento cheese stole both my heart, AND my vote for #1 breakfast EVER. It was so good that ignored the fact that I was overcharged for the coffee?s we enjoyed while waiting. A drip coffee over ice, iced mocha & hot chocolate cake to $22.00! It wasn?t until the ride home that I realized an error must have occurred. Next time I will pay more attention & it was my fault for not catching it then. Definitely try this spot when in Chattanooga, you won?t be disappointed you did!
