Since I’m in the city of Augusta visiting my sister, I figured I’d make my way around the area palate-wise in efforts to really experience her stomping ground through taste. I can’t get enough of cute lunch joints that have mom and pop written all over them. This cafe qualifies for sure. It is located in the back of a health food/wellness type store front that has neat things from organic-sulfate free shampoos to great smelling soaps to herbal supplements and green food options for their customers’ purview. Smart business as I’m sure this allows the cafe to share rent with another business, and both businesses can serve to promote for each other. As you make your way to the back and reach the cafe you can order up a series of panini, salad, and flap (wraps) type options that sound delicious. Everything from Turkey and avocado to their famous peri peri chicken combinations are available. I like going for anything with peri peri because it tells me it’s going to contain lots of spice and a little bit of heat- which I am always game for. I chose the peri peri chicken salad panini (half and half) and paired it with their side salad. I was very happy with the meal and thought it was a great deal overall in terms of price. It came out fast. The panini was still warm with a nice crust to it. I really liked that it was just the right toast on the sandwich. Often times I get paninis and they can be really soggy and undertoasted, especially with a wet middle like a chicken salad. And although the chicken salad was tasty- everything you would expect, some crunch with the nuts, some sweetness with some grape slices, and the creaminess of the mayo and chicken, it was a little lacking in spice and kick to me. I was slightly disappointed that it didn’t have that punch of heat I was expecting with peri peri. I tasted the sweetness, but definitely missed the heat. They do however sell their own store-made peri peri sauces. I’d be interested in purchasing one next time I go and trying it to get the full unadulterated flavor of that peri peri flavor in order to give it a second review. Perhaps the mayo in the salad just drowned it out? Too bad. Either way, it was good. Just didn’t wow my taste buds. The salad was really nice and light and refreshing. Definitely what I was searching for since I was in the mood for a lunch that felt and tasted on the lighter side. Nice crisp cut veggies in small easy to eat bites over a bed of arugula topped with a flavorful and light vinaigrette. Lovely side salad in my opinion. Would definitely get it again. Overall, cheerful and helpful service at the counter and very good food. Didn’t leave me with an unexpected wow, but definitely a cute spot that will give you tons of tasty lunch items for a very reasonable price. Great mom and pop. Give em a try, and peruse the storefront as well while you wait!

The Port Of Peri Peri – Menu with Prices – 3283 Walnut Ave, Fremont

As someone who has always wanted to go to Nandos (but has never been), I was pretty excited to see this restaurant pop up in Fremont that serves similar things – Chicken and peri peri sauce. I was in the area for an optometrist appointment and found this place on Yelp. I’ve lived in Fremont for 23 years and was wondering when a restaurant like this would open where you can get good protein (chicken) and a side of rice AND also be a order at the counter and sit down type of restaurant. My girlfriend and I ordered the All For One platter with mild sauce (1/2 chicken plus 3 wings & a side) to share. Got 2 orders of Cassava Fries as the side Portions: Chicken was bone in so there wasn’t as much meat as I wanted. Fries are on the smaller side in small side bowl but they are very thick. Wings are small but definitely pack flavor. I have a big appetite so I probably could have ate more chicken since I shared the platter with my girlfriend. So if you are hungry and have two people, maybe opt for something more than the All For One Platter. Taste: The chicken wasn’t dry, especially if you get it with sauce. The 1/2 chicken came with white and dark meat. The dark meat wasn’t dry at all, and even the white meat was cooked well. The peri peri sauce had a slight tang to it but was still slightly spicy and sweet. It was delicious in my opinion. They also had bottles of the peri peri sauce on the side counter that you could bring to your table. There was also a white sauce bottle which was some garlic sauce but it tasted a little like ranch. What I did was mix both the white sauce and orange sauce and it was delicious, dunking my chicken and fries into it. Wings were great, and again dunking it in the white garlic sauce and the peri peri made them even better. Cassava fries were a great alternative to regular fries. They are a bit dry but were salted nicely and fried well, and along with the sauce you don’t notice the dryness at all. I would gladly get the cassava fries again if I wanted to skip out on the carbs from regular potato fries. Verdict: If I still lived in Fremont, I would come here at least once a week! Next time I would have to try the tenders and rice combo since I’m not the biggest fan of bone-in chicken (but it was still tasty here).

Jasmin & Olivz Mediterranean – Menu with Prices – 2501 Blue Ridge Rd G 190, Raleigh

Wow, never coming back and telling all my friends the same! Ordered a falafel panini and lady started making a spicy chicken panini….. no biggie, just went with it. She asked me what side I wanted…I asked if it came with a side …. she said no but would give me one anyway, which I was kinda stoked about . Got to the register and told guy what I had. He asked what side I had … told him hummus but not to charge me as it was given. He looked at me cockeyed and rang it up with the side. I reminded him that side was given to just ask her as she was right there…. HE did and she said NO, lol……. waaaaaat? Ok, no biggie…… then this young SUPER PUNK KID grabs the box and boisterously says WE DONT GIVE ANYTHING AWAY FOR FREE! Told him to keep the side (was ready to dive over the counter at this point!) HE took my sandwich out with his Bare hands , put it in a box . I was sure to tell that jackass that I have been a Chef for longer than he was alive!!!! Which is true…. for a restaurant that does 6.5 million in sales a year. Was starving and at a hotel on Sunday with limited options, no car ….ect. FYI…… Panini SUCKED!!!!!! Too bad u can’t give negative starz

The Bodhi Tree Café – Menu with Prices – 1938 Adams Ln, Sarasota

What a cozy and unique little cafe! It’s pretty small but very charming and the ambiance is wonderful. They have both inside and outside seating and the outdoor patio looked really cool, it has a beautiful garden view and was very inviting overall. I’m definitely seating outside next time! The menu has some nice offerings, I really liked their panini and salad choices for lunch. I opted for fattoria panini with spinach instead of arugula and it was delicious. I also liked the choice between a little side salad or egg salad. I went with egg salad and it was yummy! The portion size is just right, I was full and didn’t have any leftovers. The service is great as well, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Carolina is incredibly sweet and always has a smile on her face! Looked like many people there were friends and regulars, they were exchanging hugs and the whole atmosphere just felt very warm and welcoming. The only downside is the parking, they have a very small parking lot, which gets full really fast. I had to cruise around for 10-15 mins before I found a spot on one of the side streets, but that’s obviously not restaurant’s fault plus it’s typical for that area, so just an FYI.

Verre Wine Bar Menu with Prices 2415 Wilson Blvd, Arlington

Decided to try Verre today for lunch and I’m so happy I did! It was my first time there and I really enjoyed it – and I didn’t even sample the wines, so I’m looking forward to going back. The interior is really nice with a ton of natural light, and their menu is great. They have what I think is an amazing lunch special – a full sandwich, a full side, and a coffee or tea for $9.95. Can you get that anywhere else in Clarendon? I don’t think so. I got the chicken and brie sandwich, and our server was very accommodating when I asked for it to be served without bread. I got the Greek salad as my side, and Swings coffee. The sandwich was delicious and was plated very nicely (forgot to take a picture) and the dijonnaise and fig jam on the side were a really nice complement. The Greek salad was nice – great greens, tasty tomatoes, peppers, onions, and great herbed feta with a tasty Greek dressing. My friend got a really hearty-looking sandwich and the Greek salad side. We both felt like this was a great value for a nice lunch! They had lots of other good options, too, so I highly recommend!

Hamilton Place Cafe – Menu with Prices – 20101 Hamilton Ave # 180, Torrance

I know the saying is “eat where the locals eat” but I’ve also noticed that “eat where the FedEx peeps eat” works in a pinch. This is one of those places I “ended up at” and discovered a wonderful cafe for the local inhabitants of this business complex. This actually is a beautiful complex and a nice cafe. There’s about 10 good sized booths and another dozen chairs at the counter as well as 5 outdoor tables. I’m guessing that you’ll run into a lunch crowd because they do a brisk business. But since most of the local office crowd gets half an hour for lunch, breakfast time is light (9am to 11am) and 1pm till 2:20pm is also open. Although they close at 4, they turn the grill off a bit before 3p or when they sell out of the lunch specials. After that they still have beautiful cold cut or salad sandwiches ( I love the chicken salad sandwich and will gladly walk it off an extra 15 minutes a day.) Today I got the daily special: Chicken Alfredo, small salad, medium fountain drink, half slice cheese bread for $6. You can usually find one or two specials a day and plenty of grilled items. I only wish I had time to explore the breakfast menu (I mean, I’m sleeping when they are doing breakfast, aren’t you?) My favorites are the Veggie burger ($3.50) and the Veggie Sandwich ($3), Hamburger ($2.95)(also options for bacon or cheese burgers), and the grilled chicken sandwich ($5). And fries –gotta have fries with the burger, a mini salad bar (sold by weight), a fridge of assorted juices and sodas, and a snack rack with, of all things, baked Doritos and Ruffles, assorted cookies and “full flavored” chips. 20101 Hamilton is around the corner from the Del Amo Blvd. / Figueroa intersection (Figueroa is on one side of the 110 frwy and Hamilton on the other.) On Hamilton there’s a Linder’s Furniture and it’s right across from that. Plenty of parking and a security person who, no doubt, will be able to direct you across the open court yard to the Hamilton Place Cafe. (310) 532-2353

The Salad Place & Rotisserie – Menu with Prices – 5392 Mission St, San Francisco

So I love me some sandwiches! Like a true, hearty, fresh sandwich. There are not many places is the city that wow me in this space (sadly). That was until I found this gem! So I stumbled upon it when I had an intense sandwich craving. I ended up in the mission and was searching online for possibilities. This caught my eye and had an incredible menu (beyond extensive) so I gave it a shot! I can’t begin to express how impressed i was. Not only was the bread, cheese, meat, veggies all fresh and delightful, but the salad options blew my mind. Everything is made fresh daily, and you can taste it! Egg salad, crab salad, pasta salad, broccoli salad… it was a salad extravaganza. I ordered a panini and a veggie sandwich. The panini was a meal for 2 for sure, and the bread was so light and fresh. Plus I was able to save half for the next day (It was equally as amazing). The veggie sandwich was divine. The dutch crunch was some of the beet I’ve found, the veggies were perfect and crisp as well as generous portion size. I ended up ordering pasta salad as well just because the multitude of options were so enticing. And like the sandwiches, they definitely delivered a whole lot of deliciousness! They have sandwiches, paninis, wraps, coffees, breakfast sandwiches and side options, as well as a ton of healthy salad offerings. And to top it off there were the sweetest little ladies keeping everything going that made the visit even more enjoyable. Do yourself a favor… go! Even if it’s a trek, it’s totally worth the venture and your taste buds will thank you!

Kra Z Kai’s BBQ – Menu with Prices – 1218 Magnolia Ave #110, Corona

Never tried Loa food before but had to give it shot because one I can’t say no to BBQ and two the reviews are great. The location is defiantly tucked in a plaza where you can hardly see it. However if you are in the location of El Super market in corona you will be sure to see it as there are signs posted throughout the plaza. When I got there I told the cashier it was my first time. They did recommend there too seller which was the mix plate where you can choose from 4 different meat options. I wanted to try everything so I did order in addition to getting a side of beef jerky. I also substituted there regular salad for papaya salad. The cost to substitute is $5 cause who wants a boring salad. The rice option you have the option to choose form sticky rice, fried or white. I wasn’t sure what sticky rice was so they let me try it. Believe me when I say this it’s plain sticky Rice. The chicken you can also whose thigh and thigh, thigh and wing, etc. so that’s nice. Out of everything I got I would say that papaya salad and chicken were the best. The chicken was moist and very flavorful. I mean delicious. Off the hook! Papaya salad I order a medium so 7/8 out of a 10 heat wise and Ed it’s spicy. I do like spicy but it’s enough for your taste palate. I think a 10 is above and beyond the heat. I enjoyed it a lot however it does have Avery pungent smell like wet dog. Exactly like wet dog. Some People say the more it stinks the better. And yes it does smell but it doesn’t stop me from eating it. However if you take it home careful your car will surely smell. The beef jerky lacked flavor and was dry. Defiantly not my cup of tea The ribs were ok, had better but I wasn’t a huge fan. Did lack some flavor Sausage was ok however it was very taken over by lemon grass flavor. Alittle wayyyyy too much. Fried rice was good but had better. If I come back I going straight for the chicken! Overall great service! I’ll be back for there chicken

The Gold Leaf Collective – Menu with Prices – 120 W Laurel St, Fort Collins

The Gold Leaf was perfect. We were in Fort Collins for 4 days, and we came here twice! This is a rarity when I’m out of town! We came to the Gold Leaf originally because: a. it’s all vegan! b. we had the FoCo passport for buy one get one kombuchamosas. We returned because we had such an amazing experience with both food and service. Gold Leaf is right off of College, in a super popular, well restaurant-heavy, part of town. Even before turning off College, while sitting at the light, I looked over towards where we were going, and saw an area with a lot of cafe lights outside, and knew that was our destination. We found parking easily, and made our way in. Inside, it has a completely adorable, cozy, and rustic set up, with books, a wall fountain, and tree branches adorning the walls. The color theme is apparent: different shades of golden amber. We sat inside near the bathroom, and decided on our foods. When I go to a place that allows every food item to be friendly for my eating, I have a tough time deciding on what I’m getting. After my normal deliberation, I went with the Lion’s Mane Po-Boy (I’ll come back to this), and my sister went with the S.L.T – seitan, lettuce, tomato. Each sandie comes with a selection for a side: house potatoes, fries, fried brussels, salad, beet salad etc. We ordered a separate side of fries to share, and for our entree side, went with the salads. Their Kombuchamosas, first off, are excellent. We had a pear flavored one, and it was exactly what we needed. Second, when you come here, get the Lions Mane!! Oh my god, it was amazing. Lions Mane is a type of mushroom that takes on the taste and texture of chicken. This po-boy had fried Lion’s Mane on it, and I couldn’t get enough of it. There was also a pickle aioli which was so extremely unique, and just as tasty! My sister loved her S.L.T., which was more panini style. The fries came with homemade ketchup and hot sauce, and those were also… absolutely perfect. We LOVED our dining experience here. The food and the service, and the adorable set up was amazing. This is why we returned again before we left town. Our second visit we ordered an appetizer: Buffalo Cauliflower. I went with the Artichoke Panini and my sister did the Seitan Philly. We both got the beet salad as a side. The beets were gorgeous. They were multicolored, and extremely flavorful. The Buffalo Cauliflower was life changing. Serious. And whatever olive oil/balsamic The Gold Leaf uses… is perfect. I enjoyed the Panini, but definitely preferred the Lions Mane. It’s nice that they have a variety of different sandies: wraps, paninis, subs,. They also have breakfast options and bowl options so there’s something for everyone. The Gold Leaf is a necessary stop when in town. It’s. So. Damn. Good. I’m. In. Love. And. Will. Never. Forget. That. Damn. Delicious. Lions. Mane. I. Will. Drive. 7. Hours. Just. For. That.

Chameleon Cafe Akron Menu with Prices 23 S Main St, Akron

Excellent. Granted, I’ve only tried two menu items on the menu but my lunch was absolutely delicious so I could not wait until a second visit to review this cafe. FOOD (LUNCH) – My friend Jeanie, treated me to lunch on 15 January 2019 and I ordered the Cilantro Lime Chicken Panini. I got the half size and next time, I will for sure splurge and order a full size because it was so tasty. I didn’t realize how small the half size would be until I received it. The cilantro and house made lime butter were key staples to the panini because they brought out the flavour. The half size cilantro like chicken panini sandwich was $5.69 and the full is $8.89. These prices are definitely on the higher end of the price spectrum. Although the cost may seem high, the sandwich and other items on the menu are made fresh in their kitchen. I could definitely taste the freshness as I bit into the delicious panini. YUM. BREAKFAST – (edit). I came back a few days later, after having lunch here, to order breakfast. The second time I came here was on 18 January 2019. I ordered the breakfast croissant sandwich with egg and sausage. It was delicious but over $6 so the price is high. MENU – They have a full lunch menu and they are also open for breakfast. They also serve baked goods such as cookies. They have drinks as well such as coffee and hot chocolate. They can cater for you too so if you are having a party or office lunch, just call them ahead of time. SERVICE – Awesome. Once my friend and I ordered lunch, our food was brought out in a cafeteria style tray. My friend and I arrived at 12:30pm on a Tuesday and it was not too busy. The crowd later picked up but it seemed that most people took their lunch orders to go as there were plenty of chairs and tables to sit on. I love this small business and I’ll definitely be back at least one more time before my temporary work stay in Akron ends. Prices are high but everything is lade fresh, in-house. I recommend that you stop on in. They are open daily (M-F) from 8am – 3pm. – 13 total reviews in 2019. – 223 total Yelp reviews. – Reviewed on 16 January 2019.

North Point Grill – Menu with Prices – 7843 North Point Blvd, Winston-Salem

My husband and I have been talking about trying this place for years. We’ve driven by many times and it’s usually empty so we take that as a sign that we should probably go elsewhere. Today was the day, no matter how many cars we saw in the lot, to give it a try finally. We were pleasantly surprised to see quite a few cars when we pulled in for lunch on a Sunday around 12:00. Yay! We were quickly greeted by a friendly server and had our drink order taken. A different server came to take our order. I was torn between a few salads. On her recommendation I chose the Buffalo Chicken Salad. My husband got fried flounder with Mac and cheese and coleslaw for sides. Our food came out pretty fast. I was hungry so I was happy for that. My salad was really good and plentiful. Lots of chicken and veggies. However, holy moly! It was spicy! In the menu it said served with a mild buffalo sauce. Well, the chef was a bit heavy handed with the “mild” sauce because there was a ton on it and it overtook the flavor of everything. I got ranch on the side but it didn’t really calm the heat down enough for me. I was full before I finished but there was a small pool of sauce at the bottom of my bowl. Thank goodness my hubby had that coleslaw because that was the only thing that helped my mouth stop burning. Loved the salad in all other ways and next time will order the buffalo on the side. Hubby’s fish was light and flaky. He loved it and I loved my bite he shared with me. We will try North Point Grill again.

HEYDAY – Organic Cafe, Coffee Bar and Premium Office Catering – Menu with Prices – 555 Mission St, San Francisco

This place is terrible. My coworker and I came on a Monday morning to grab a quick brekkie & coffee. My coworker got the avocado toast & I got their cauliflower frittata. The bread used for the toast was SO HARD and when my coworker asked if they could heat up the toast for her (in hopes to soften the bread), the worker lady was just like “no, the avocado would burn in the panini press.” We were both like, what the actual fuck is wrong with you? Why does it have to go through the panini press? You guys have an oven, why can’t you just heat the toast in there? You’re not going to put a croissant in a panini press so clearly you’ve got other appliances you could have used to heat up the toast. Honestly, she was probably just lazy & really didn’t care about providing the best customer service. The cauliflower frittata was also tasteless and dry like the Sahara desert. The vanilla latte I got was also overly sweet & they don’t even fill the cup all the way. When they handed it to me, the cup was only 80% full, ok what???? Don’t come here. If you want good quality breakfast items then head over to blue bottle, or anywhere else but here.
