Needing to be up early, it seemed like a good time to finally ‘reward’ myself and make a trip here. I assumed that by showing up around 6:30 am, I’d have the best selection from which to choose. Well, not exactly. Turns out I showed up too early, and many varieties, including the creme brûlée donut I’d heard so much about, wasn’t yet an option. Oh well. I chose a pumpkin pie donut that was extremely moist and tasty. Granted, it didn’t really taste like anything pumpkin, and with the addition of a pecan on top, made me wonder if that little sign was even accurate. It was a good, albeit expensive donut. Since this was breakfast, I started with one of the jalapeño pigs in a blanket, which was good. I asked the woman to heat it, so she nuked my pig in her microwave for a bit. Part was hot, part wasn’t, which kind of took some excitement out of my pig. Being an experienced apple fritter connoisseur, I tried a couple of their little mini fritters. Also good, but nothing out of the ordinary. I washed it all down with their version of a pumpkin spice latte. Again, good, but nothing crazy, and at $5 for a little cup, not really a great bargain either. All in all, a decent experience but not the mind blowing donut adventure I had hoped for after reading all the great reviews. Bottom line, if I’m in the neighborhood again, I might stop in, but I’m likely not making another special trip to the western outskirts of Frisco just to go there.

Coffea Roasterie and Espresso Bar – Menu with Prices – 500 S Highline Pl Suite 110, Sioux Falls

Since it’s fall the wife wanted her dose of pumpkin spice latte. We ended up at Coffea where I got the French press and wifey got Coffea’s version of Pumpkin spice latte- the Charlie Brown. The drinks took a while to be made but were well worth the wait. The French press came in a fancy looking beaker and was well made. Ditto with the pumpkin spice latte, very well made, not too sweet and with perfectly done latte art. All in all a wonderful option when you’re looking to splurge a little compared to the usual takeout coffee.

The Farm House – Menu with Prices – 902 Manatee Ave E, Bradenton

Sarasota finally has a place that sells a real donut. Just tried the recently opened Clark Road store. It’s a comfortable place that you will enjoy popping into. And you should be popping in here a lot. These are hands down the best donuts I have had since moving here. You will get apple in every cinnamony bite of the fritters, which have a nice heft with a tasty crunch in every bite. I also had a salted caramel yeast donut, which was fluffy while still having bite. It was fresh as can be. I was greeted and provided a menu, and the manager checked with me after I got my order. Had a good latte with my order as well A week later: went for lunch. Again, outstanding. I had the Debris sandwich, which was huge and delicious. It had a really savory and salting dipping broth, too. It came with fries that were well made – hot and crunch. Right now, service is outstanding. I have to admit to having a donut for dessert – the pumpkin donut, which is a raised donut filled with a nice pumpkin filling and topped with (I think) pumpkin flavored whipped cream, which tasted like fresh whipped cream. I have to come back for the egg sandwiches. All I can say is that they are doing it right.

One Nickel Coworking – Menu with Prices – 4323 Main St, Philadelphia

So excited to discover a new coffee shop in Manayunk! I just stopping in for coffee and ended up staying because I loved the ambience/scene. They have plenty of available tables to sit/chat/work/study/etc. The decor is compliments their relaxed chill vibes – definite stress free environment. I ordered their pumpkin spice latte (special for the season), and wow! It was not overly sweet, like some pumpkin lattes. I asked the barista about it and learned that they make their own pumpkin spice puréed out of their own pumpkins! Completely natural and no processed syrup – so yummy for a warm fall beverage! I also learned that there are working/office tables in the back which you can rent out or they can rearrange for any type of event you want to host. They also have more tables upstairs with the same rental work/office space. Definitely need to try this out for one of my study sessions. Need to go back to see how their coffee brews, but for a new coffee shop – I say they mastered the pumpkin spice latte early on. Kudos!

One11 Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 2004 S Mason Rd, Katy

Walked into a cute coffee shop that I was in awe how cute it was! I was excited. They have a open warehouse concept on nice day that is perfect for coffee and studying! Marbled desk that is absolutely adorable! Cute decorations by season! I was mildly annoyed how I walked in and to the counter and they didn’t even have any kind of warm welcome like some places would. Because it’s fall, I asked for a pumpkin spice latte, to my surprise the cashier didn’t have a clue if they had it or not. Barista said he can make it. So I was fine with that. My friend read the menu and said he wanted the house tea because that’s what it read. They rudely told him that they don’t have a house tea and you have to choose one…. I wouldn’t recommend having it on your menu if your going to say you have to choose which “house tea” you want. I asked for a stopper for my coffee from the cashier and again he was clueless and the barista had to answer the question…? I don’t know if we were being complicated or the guy was new. Overall the actually pumpkin spice latte was decent and smelled wonderful! But service here was not welcoming like a coffee shop should be.

A One Donut – Menu with Prices – 1820 Coit Rd #103, Plano

My husband and I have made it our mission to find the best fritter within 25 miles of our home. Jaram’s had BEEN our go-to…their fritters are crispy on the outside with an even glaze and gooey inside. They aren’t too “bread-y” like some donut shops make them. BUT the price is around $3+/fritter which is a tad steep for a bunch of fried flour on a Saturday morning. So, it was with surprise that I swung by a local shop and found a fritter even better…add to the perfectly crispy outside the chunks of apple and fresh from the fryer, and I would prefer their fritter over a Texas state fair treat ANYday! Also, when you walk in close to 10am on a Saturday, you fully expect there to be minimal pickings at the local donut shop. But when I asked if they had any apple fritters left, they made them FRESH! And I heard them do the same thing for a different donut they were out of for the next person as well…talk about SERVICE!! Add to that, the apple fritters are PERFECT and you have our new favorite spot… #IlovePlano

Sugar Rush Donut Company – Menu with Prices – 4701 Airport Blvd #250, Mobile

Sugar Rush clever name for exactly what happens after eating anything from this great donut shop. Nice selection of donuts but I’m picky when trying a new shop, donut shop. So, I stuck to the basics, well my basics, the glaze and the apple fritter. The glaze donut was great and guess what, it came with conecuh sausage, well you do have a pay a little more. The verdict: it was good. The glazed donut was delicious, light, non greasy with minimal glaze. The sausage great! Well, you can go wrong with the conecuh, unless you put it in a doughnut with the casing. It was hard to enjoy it as a sandwich because the donut wasn’t firm enough and the casing on the sausage was tough. I really liked the doughnut though alot. The apple fritter was very good. I am definitely picky about my fritters. It’s the thing I try at any donut shop. This one is certainly in the top 3 of local fritters. Besides being good, it was crispy, delicious and huge! So huge it should definitely be shared. Don’t take on this alone, get some a friends on board. Overall, I liked it. When I want a sugar rush, I’m rushing to Sugar Rush. Another great local find!

Bon Beans Organic Coffee, Tea, & Juice – Menu with Prices – 875 E 9 Mile Rd #3, Pensacola

Bon Beans is for sure a coffee shop you can go to every day and not get bored. The baristas offer a great variety of coffee drinks and even more teas. Milk substitutes (almond, soy, or coconut milk) are also offered at an extra price. Make sure to go every Tuesday for BOGO! Out of the numerous coffee shops I’ve been to. Bon Beans stands out for it’s cute and welcoming interior. There are plenty of board games and books to read along with tables and couches to study. The best drink I’ve gotten so far is the cold brew with sugar free vanilla flavoring. I like my cold brews strong and not too bitter; this one was perfect. I would not recommend the dark chocolate flavoring; it did not taste like dark chocolate and instead more like candy and did not hide the bitterness of the coffee well. I’ve also gotten the mocha frappuccino which had a rich milk chocolate flavor; I had hoped the coffee taste would be more apparent. Most recently, I tried the pumpkin spice latte and was not pleased. The latte tasted nothing like pumpkin spice and was exceptionally bitter. Perhaps I have high expectations after having a Starbucks PSL, but I would not recommend this drink from Bon Beans.

Paradise Donuts – Menu with Prices – 9675 Riverside Pkwy, Tulsa

I have tossed around the idea of doing a donut tour of the Green Country area. I started close to home & worked my way outward. This donut shop is just south of 91st & Riverside. I have a standard order, blueberry cake & chocolate cake/chocolate icing. I was here late in the morning so there wasn’t a large selection . This was partly why I went late, as well as checking how fresh the donuts were outside of peak hours. They had my standard blueberry but we’re out of my standard chocolate/chocolate. I chose a cinnamon & sugar cake donut for my #2. The blueberry donut was the best blueberry donut I have ever had. The cinnamon & sugar donut, also excellent. I will go back with my guy. I did notice the apple fritters came in 2 sizes. 2 reasonable, realistic sizes. Wow! So simple, yet thoughtful. The calories, sugar & carbs for these enormous fried morning Kryptonite normally leave me sluggish and flu like symptoms for days. No matter where I purchase them. I usually have my husband in tow who doesn’t mind to much that his wife will want a bite from the very center. I believe that if enough people request something enough times, their local donut shop will carry fritters in a variety of sizes…if not, these guys already are doing it! I had never even thought about it untill I saw the Momma Bear and Baby Bear size fritters. This fritter idea made these guys go from 4 stars to 5. This is before I have even eaten the fritter! Can’t wait until next Saturday! I went back again with my Guy & then a 3rd time & finally a chocolate/chocolate cake….wasn’t worth the wait. Those blueberry ones, man they were bangin! Still want to take my grand kids for the fun ones!

In the moment coffee – Menu with Prices – 3601 E Hastings St, Vancouver

This is a coffee shop by the bus loop. We were in the area and decided to give this place a try. Cafe is clean and airy. It has the modern decor that is very trendy right now. I was surprised they have pumpkin spice latte on the menu during the summer. Then I saw a lavender latte option! The barista said the lavender syrup was made in house so I had to go try. My date ordered an americano. Both drinks were nicely made. My latte had a hint of lavender without being over powering. As it is by the bus loop, parking can be challenging during the weekdays. However, on the weekend, I had no problem parking on the same block as the cafe. There is residential parking if you are willing to walk a couple blocks.

Donuts House – Menu with Prices – 5040 N Tarrant Pkwy #108, Fort Worth

I have gone here more times than I would like to count in the last year because it’s next to my business and very convenient. Never, not once, have I had a stale donut here. They are light and fluffy and the sausage rolls are always hot and fresh. Sometimes I go early morning and sometimes right before closing and quality is always consistent. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I am put off by the tip jar. I don’t mind tipping for above and beyond service and while the service is always fast, it’s not overly friendly like other donut stores and unlike other donut stores, then NEVER give away free donut holes. This is the only donut place I’ve ever been to (besides KK) that doesn’t throw in an extra goodie for a regular customer. Maybe I’d place a tip in the jar if I got that kind of service. LOVE the donuts though!

Hole In One Donuts – Menu with Prices – 14406 N Florida Ave, Tampa

Ah …the beauty of the donut ( not “doughnut” but donut as some of our friends from Great Britain like to spell), often ruined by one of two factors. These include the sawdust donut (cheapening an already simplified recipe and jacking up the price) or the hipster donut ( adding everything from kale to Red Vines on a donut and in the process, sapping the joy out of a wonderful food all for the sake of being “ironic”). At Hole in One Donuts we return to the basics. Sure they have some specials on their menu ( try the glazed croissants) but overall no overpriced under flavored junk. This is a first rate donut shop. From the apple fritters to the plain cake ( my personal favorite) they have a terrific and wonderful selection of donuts which are creative, but not reaching. Hole in One is also the perfect gift for a friend who is down in the dumps or maybe went the extra mile for you. Their boxes say “You deserve a Donut!” on them. And oh the joy, the bliss of being able to cram large bites of warm, fried, wonderful dough past your tastebuds buds and into your belly. It’s the best in Tampa!
