This place surprised me! I realize this was an existing restaurant that moved into the current location but all other business at this location failed, quickly. So I didn’t have much hope for Del Rancho. we have been there twice now and the food is excellent. The service is great. The restaurant is very well kept. The prices are fantastic. I can recommend the beef fajitas for two with out any qualms. For my husband and I, it was enough for dinner and lunch quesadillas with the leftovers the next day. The regular hot sauce is weak with no heat! May as well be tomato sauce so I am taking a star off for that. A Mexican restaurant with bad salsa makes me sad.

La Catrina Mexican bar&grill – Menu with Prices – 2074 S Cobb Dr SE, Marietta

My husband and I decided to eat dinner here in hopes of finally finding our Smyrna Mexican place. The 5 star reviews are what led us here. We sat outside and were one of 2 parties outside, with nobody else in the entire restaurant. Despite this, it took FOREVER for someone to get our drink order, then forever to get our dinner order. The choriqueso dip and chips/salsa were very good, but my beef enchilada and husband’s combo meal were honestly almost inedible (and my order was wrong). The enchilada, which I requested as ground beef with cheese dip on top/no red sauce, came with red sauce and melted cheese on top. Also, the beef literally tasted like the fatty parts off a low-grade steak. Neither my husband nor I could even eat more than one bite. His combo meal was just meh, that’s the best I can say about it. I don’t know if we were here on an off-night, but we will be eating at Zama for our Mexican cravings from now on.

Taqueria La Cabana – Menu with Prices – 4014 Indian River Rd, Chesapeake

I’ve been hearing my neighbor rave about this place since shortly after they opened. Apparently he has a regular night when he dines here WEEKLY. So – one day when I was feeling mucho lazy I used a competing dining delivery app. It’s within a 5 minute drive but I simply didn’t feel like putting a bra on to go inside to pick up a takeout order. ? It was THE fastest delivery order I’ve ever had and believe me – it was worth every cent. My order consisted of the chicken chimichangas entree (fried) that comes w rice and guacamole salad. I also ordered a side of refried beans and the cheese dip. Included at no additional cost were fresh fried tortilla chips w both red salsa and white sauce. (Don’t judge! I got a good 2.5 meals out of this) Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. I believe they make their own tortillas – both corn and flour – because they didn’t taste like typical Mexican restaurant fare. Both rice and beans were yum. Even the lettuce/guacamole/tomato salad on the side w sour cream seemed unusually fresh. Tortilla chips were still hot. Salsa is super tasty – lots of flavor but not too hot. The white sauce had a bit extra tang with a tad more heat. Loved them both! I enjoyed my leftovers a day and a half later. Obviously fried tortillas don’t reheat as well and the shredded chicken got a bit dried out in the microwave, but I just added the salsa and was able to fully enjoy that second meal. My husband was upset I ate there without him so I suspect we’ll go and dine in soon. More on that later!

Chile Frito Mexican Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 4022 River Oaks Dr, Myrtle Beach

I give these guys props for enthusiasm. This small corner plaza Mexican spot is nice enough inside with high ceilings and decent decor. They seemed either a bit shot staffed or just don’t have their routine quite down yet. After seating, service was quick with the drinks and chips/salsa. We added a small cheese dip. I had the shrimp cocktail at a little over $14. My companion had chicken quesadillas with beans and rice. Main dishes took quite a while to table. The shrimp cocktail arrived from the back. Then chef prepped the quesadillas on the open grill within view in quick time. I’m not sure the thought process on the shrimp cocktail. Served in a giant margarita glass, plenty of diced shrimp pieces are mixed in a red ‘cocktail’ sauce. I put quotations here because the sauce was some combo of pica de Gallo and the sweetest, sugary tomato sauce ever tasted. I was expecting salsa or typical cocktail sauce served American style. This sugary sauce, unfortunately, made the dish inedible. As for the chicken quesadillas, they too were off flavor for Mexican fare. Here, the chicken had a smoky-sweet, almost bar-b-que flavor and not an expected chili, garlic, celantro, cummin, etc. No onion, pepper, grill flavor. No sour cream or cheese. So, again, a dissatisfying dish. When asked, we provided feedback and the server (likely owner) removed the cocktail charge (we didn’t ask). That was nice as he saw we at little of either dish. Sorry for the negative review, but these are my realistic comments based on the food served.

Taqueria zamora – Menu with Prices – 4314 Portland Ave E suite 8, Tacoma

This place is a little different. It’s inside a store that bills itself as Mexican grocery store. It’s really just a convenience store. As you walk in, you turn left to find a small seating area. There’s no counter or hostess. The server comes out of the kitchen to take your order. The menu is on the wall with pictures and prices. I was blown away by the sauce on my wet burrito. Way better than antojo. I thought the green to go sauce was a bit weak but the red was spicier than most. Also, there is no salsa bar. It’s pretty rudementary in there. I always get my food to go. I think I’ll come here for lunch and dinner; and go to antojo for breakfast burritos.

Uncle Julio’s Mexican From Scratch – Menu with Prices – 4325 Glenwood Ave Suite 5008, Raleigh

TIP: Sign up for their loyalty program for free Table-Side Guacamole! (worth $13.99) This is not small. Could easily feed 4-6 or more as an appetizer. We brought plenty home. And soooo good! This new Mexican restaurant has been open for about two weeks now. It is where McCormick & Schmicks used to be at Crabtree, and boy have they transformed it! It’s clean and shiny new with a variety of seating options, indoors and out. We had a comfortable booth. We were impressed with Service and Food Quality. Honestly we almost didn’t go after checking out the menu online and seeing the relatively high prices, but were glad we decided to give it a whirl, as the quality was up there enough for what we ordered to justify what we paid. Husband loved his perfectly cooked marinated Hangar Steak Fajitas. He thought the quality of steak was very good and the tortillas excellent. My Enchilada Combo was very good as well. I got one of each: a cheese & onion one, chicken and a beef one. Each had a different sauce and lots of cheese! Usually in a Mexican restaurant I have to mix the beans and rice together and often dump on a lot of salsa for flavor, but not here. Each was tasty on its own As for the complimentary chips and salsa that started us off, the salsa is not a tomato-based one. It’s brownish. You can taste the chiles. Different, and just the right amount of heat. Went beautifully with the thin freshly fried chips. The thin chips can be a bit difficult with the thick guacamole, but they supply spoons if need be. Personally we love thin chips. Everything was so good that there was no way we were going to waste anything, so we got containers and are very much looking forward to leftovers. The bill is brought via a small computer. You swipe your own card, and there’s a very short survey. Note: they have an extensive list of Margaritas, including skinny ones and even an Organic one. I wasn’t in a tequila mood, but did try the Sangria on the rocks and it was okay. Nothing thrilling.

Alazanes Mexican Restaurant & Cantina – Menu with Prices – 14893 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park

I don’t normally venture this far from Downtown, but I’m so glad I did! They weren’t busy at all for lunch, so it was a great place to stop before going to the Museum at Prairie Fire with my Little Man during a week we needed to be indoors because of a week long heat advisory. I started writing this review just from the salsa alone. No thin tomato water here like at most Mexican places! You can tell they put a lot of love and time into the recipes. I had the mild and the hot and I can’t decide which I like better (and I NEVER like mild salsa!) I also liked that their kids menu was really inexpensive. Anybody else hang with a kid that is obsessed with chicken strips? Thankfully they have those or Mac and cheese w/ french fries on the kids menu along with traditional mexican fare in smaller portions for the more adventurous kiddo out there. Okay, lunch just came out. Their lunch prices are a bit more than I’m used to, but so was the portion size! I got the Burrito Suprema I think it was called with el pastor (marinated pork in adobo), my FAVORITE authentic Mexican meat and it’s just so good here! Our server was extremely helpful and informative, even telling me what kids of peppers are in each salsa (though I forgot lol). There’s also a sign advertising Salsa Night on Friday with complimentary lessons! Again, I don’t leave the city, but I may have to for this place. I SO wish they were downtown and not in Leawood, but it’s great if you’re hitting up Prairie Fire, live this far south of the metro, or don’t mind long commutes in traffic that’s literally worse than the city–then this business is DEFINITELY deserving of your patronage!

El Toro Loco Mexican Bar & Grill – Menu with Prices – 1706 Village West Pkwy, Kansas City

The reviews of this place show exactly why you should ignore most negative yelp reviews. You’re mad, because you asked for a hotter salsa, and you had to wait for it? They probably had to whip out the tomatoes and make some just for you. Who said they even make a hotter salsa? Shut up and eat what they bring you. It’s free. The people giving 1 star reviews are “that guy” and “that lady” who always have a problem at every restaurant they go to. They probably never eat a meal that isn’t discounted in some way. Ignore them. I hope this place does great. We could really use a good sit-down higher end Mexican place in WyCo. We ate here for lunch today (party of 2) and were seated immediately. We had a great server who was very attentive. At no point did my drink get below half full. I ordered the El Toro Loco Special, which was grilled marinated chicken, shrimp, and steak all over a bed of rice, with a cheese sauce drizzled over the top. It was hands down one of the most amazing things I’ve ever eaten. The wife ordered the avocado enchiladas and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen her leave a Mexican restaurant without a box. The chips and salsa were both good. The salsa was fresh and chilled, and I like how they put it in a little carafe. The manager with the bow tie was on the floor the whole time and had very high standards with the staff, who you could tell were still a little new and learning. They have a sign on the door listing different discounts they offer. They give on duty police 50% off, which is awesome! Way to value those who protect us, plus it makes the customers feel safer to have them around.

Wowdy Donuts – Menu with Prices – 3035 S Shiloh Rd # 130, Garland

“Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican Food,” I bet you never thought you would read that phrase. It is also affordable without pretentiousness. If you only want cheap spicy, cheesy, greasy, heavy Tex-Mex, this isn’t the place for you but if you are interested in affordable “Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican food,” this place is for you! When you enter the parking lot if you don’t see the place keep driving through the parking lot all along the storefronts and you will find it! This restaurant is a beautiful cute, clean restaurant hidden in this strip mall/shopping center that my best description would be excellent upscale Tex-Mex. When we went, we were the only couple eating here, but it was only 7:00 PM on a Saturday. The only thing that would make it better would be an exotic selection of Margaritas. It is BYOB. If you want the kind of Tex-Mex you get just about every other Tex-Mex restaurant, be prepared for a fun surprise unless you want the heavy, greasy, cheesy standard Tex-Mex. They serve light, fresh Tex-Mex, and the presentation of the food and the incredibly top-notch ingredients will blow you away and keep you coming back again and again. The first difference, the salsa, it is served warm and isn’t tomato based. It is spicy served with thick fresh corn tortilla chips. If you like a lot of tomato in your salsa, then you won’t like this because it is light, spicy cooked salsa with a unique Mexican flavor that I’ve rarely experienced. The refried beans were very tasty and fresh. The Mexican rice was so light and fine I didn’t believe it was rice, it is NOT like normal Tex-Mex Mexican rice. No overpowering spice, just enough to enhance and spread the flavor. The white Mexican cheese was much lighter and less pungent than normal cheese used in Tex-Mex. The guacamole is fantastic, I don’t like guacamole and I thought it was good and my wife said it was excellent, with crunchy peppers, very fresh and it said it had cilantro (which we don’t like) but we didn’t get the soapy taste when we usually eat cilantro. It was magic! You must have the Chili Relleño! We had the brisket and cheese which the juicy smoked flavor of the brisket comes through very well because it isn’t covered in too much sauce, uniform and beautiful crust and the cheese is a white Mexican cheese that makes it a truly unique dish. You must have the Signature Pollo Sazon which is out of this world tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The house ancho chile honey sauce was great. There isn’t an equivalent to this dish in any Tex-Mex restaurant I’ve ever experienced. You must have the chipotle cheesecake. It is quite a twist, kind of like salted chocolate. You are eating a top-notch cheesecake which is marbled with some chipotle cheesecake with a slight drizzling of chipotle sauce. Order as much as you want and sample the different dishes and ask for takehome boxes! Enjoy it for another meal or two. Once you’ve eaten here, the taste will bring you back because you can’t get “Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican food” any other place AND it is affordable!! They serve breakfast and I’m fairly sure this place is packed during the work week lunch crowd. It is a great place for a Saturday date night!

Arriba Villa Taqueria And Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 3040 University Pkwy, Winston-Salem

Hidden gem in Winston-Salem. We frequented this place at least once a week, usually more often than that, when it opened during our last year of law school. The servers are the greatest and the food is awesome. Everything we ever ordered was delicious. My favorites are the fish tacos, fried and with flour tortillas, and the shrimp fajitas. They let you order the lunch portion of dishes even at dinner which is just the best bc the lunch portions are plenty. The Texas marg is the way to go bc the extra tequila balances the sweet mix. We were genuinely sad to say goodbye to our favorite waiter when we had one last dinner here before moving away, and we miss the food here! And if you like super spicy salsa, ask for the spicy salsa as well when they give you the regular chips and salsa. You only need a little but it’s delicious!

Tortilleria Los III Potrillos – Menu with Prices – 318 West 29th St N, Wichita

Wow- a friend gave me a pkg of freshly made corn tortillas & the BEST Green Salsa I have ever had! I used to live in Greeley Co & thought the local family owned restaurants made the best green salsa but the one from here was “the Bomb” It is very hot- hotter than most salsas you would buy so just know that in case you are sensitive to the heat factor however, if there is someone in your life who really likes the heat- the kind of heat where you can still enjoy it & also taste the flavor- this would be a wonderful treat for your table at dinner this week. When I cook enchiladas at home, I usually buy the red enchilada sauce from a local restaurant but next time I’m headed to Los III Potrillos to try their other sauces. The corn tortillas were fab just warmed up, one night we spread a touch of butter & baked for 4 min- wow & when they were older – we cut them into fourths & baked them in a toaster oven to make our own fresh tortilla chips- they were so flavorful & toasty- Dynamite really!

Pancho’s Mexican Grill – Menu with Prices – 1525 W Tennessee St, Tallahassee

Love love love this place. Very welcoming atmosphere paired with a solid variety of Mexican staples . They have all the classics: tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas as well as burgers in case there are any picky eaters in the group the bases are well covered. For starters they bring out chips and salsa and the salsa is delicious and they have some pretty solid guacamole and queso if the salsa isn’t enough. I ordered the steak fajitas however they have chicken and shrimp options as well as a “Texas style” with chicken steak and shrimp . I enjoyed my food however it was very hard to get anything other than the carnitas dinner which is my all time favorite. my girlfriend ordered the taco salad which came in a taco bowl and thoroughly enjoyed it. Solid happy hour too, recommend giving this place a try !

McGrath’s Burger Shack – Menu with Prices – 800 S Battlefield Blvd Suite 112, Chesapeake

The food and drinks are decent enough, but the atmosphere is what brings the rating down. It’s not well ventilated so all of the customers and staff were visibly uncomfortable in the stuffy heat. The table was kind of sticky when we sat down. The staff didn’t seem overly happy to see us when we first walked in, but their spirits seemed to pick up slightly as more customers came in. I had an Irish summer cocktail: I was hoping for something more sweet and refreshing since it was so hot inside, but all of the strawberry, lemonade, and basil flavors were a little weak to be honest. I got the Jalapeno Heat burger–it’s part of my initiative to make myself a stronger human by becoming a chilihead. Anyway, I’m still very weak so I’ll be fair and tell you that I think the burger was probably very good! (I don’t know for sure because my mouth very quickly went numb from the spice haha). I thought the beef patty itself was good quality; the bun was really good (although I kinda wish they didn’t brand it because the burn mark kinda smelled weird whenever I leaned in for another bite); the Jalapeno slices were nice and fresh (and hot!); and the Sriracha sauce contributed even more heat but the flavor was good and a little sweet. My husband got the Irish Whiskey burger and he said it was good. Hahaha. All in all, it was pretty good food, but I wish they’d get a better A/C!
