I studied in Germany and fell in love with a few things. Brotchen (little breads), Currywurst, and Döner (sort of like a gyro, but served on a ciabatta like bread with pickled veg). Das Alpenhaus has all of these things, plus many many more. The grocery store part is always so fun. It makes me so nostalgic. I always pick up some Kinder chocolate and Prinzen Rolle cookies. Both my husband and I love German beers so we always stock up (warning…it’s imported so it’s a tad spendy). Our favorite is the Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, which has a very slight banana taste (I know how it sounds, but trust me). I love the little deli. It feels like home. I have had the sausage plate, potato salad, cucumber salad, and a couple variations of sandwiches. All have been spectacular. I did score the Döner one day (they run out fast) and was a bit disappointed. My meat was very lukewarm and did not have the juicy crisp that I was used to. I don’t think they turn it on a spit. The bread was perfect and the pickled veggies were good. In Germany, there were two sauce options. A tzatziki and a chili sauce. I used to get both of them and they made a spicy, creamy perfection that would soak into the bread. The only option available at Das Alpenhaus was the tzatziki, so I was a bit bummed. That was about 2 years ago though…maybe that’s changed! I have gone in a few times to get the Döner and been too late, which is always a bummer. But that’s a good supply and demand problem for the deli! Guten Appetit!

Taste of Jerusalem and More – Menu with Prices – 707 N Pace Blvd Suite B, Pensacola

Incredible food. Everything here is so flavorful and delicious. I’m going to write this review for those unfamiliar with this kind of food bc everyone should try it! #1 is a good place to start because you get a little bit of everything: Shish kebab is delicious juicy chunks of marinated and grilled steak, chicken kebab are bright yellow pieces of juicy grilled chicken. Kofta kebab is ground sirloin and spices that are grilled into a long rope, and falafel is ground chickpea patties that almost have a texture like a cornbread but are very filling and flavorful. It comes with two sides, Jerusalem salad and hummus but can be switched. The Jerusalem Salad is a fresh and delicious mixture of veggies marinated together. If you like pico or bruschetta, or southern style tomatoes and onion salad, you’ll love this. The hummus is silky, delicious and doesn’t have an overpowering garlic flavor like I find Four Winds’ to have. The pepper sauce was my fav, zesty and tangy with a slight bite of heat. Tabouli (a parsley and grain cold salad with diced tomato and onion) was bright and flavorful, and the tzatziki (cucumber, yogurt and garlic sauce) was phenomenal on everything. If you eat in, you’ll get complimentary flat bread and plates of different sauces to try. I eat the meats on the bread with the sauces and I love that you can switch up each bite for endless combinations. If you order out (you can call in an order but I never wait more than 15 minutes) they will give you a couple sauces and fresh bread as well. I finished with a tiny piece of baklava. It wasn’t too much, or overly saturated with butter or honey, just a perfect bite. This place is a gem! The deli in Saigon across the street is also incredible, and Quickly just around the corner for sushi and boba tea! Brownsville food is the best y’all!

Euro Market & Grill LLC – Menu with Prices – 3225 Lemay Ferry Rd, St. Louis

I’ve had this bookmarked for a very long time, and finally got a chance to try it out. I’m so glad I did. It didn’t disappoint! Biser is a little Bosnian grocery store in a strip mall across from Mehlville South High School. I wish I got a photo of the place, but I forgot. It’s on the west side of the street, and it’s actually titled Euro Market and Grill with Biser underneath that. When I was leaving, I could have sworn that there is a second store with the same title down the street…but the one I went to is the one closest to the high school. They have a small kitchen inside the grocery store where they prepare several East European staples including doner ($6.50) and cevapi ($7.00). I couldn’t decide what to get, so I asked them what they recommended. The woman said the doner, so that’s what I went with. It was amazing. Instead of regular pita, they use the Bosnian lepinja, and it is soft, chewy, and oh-so-very-fresh. The tzatziki sauce was slathered on the lepinja just right, and there was a perfect balance of meat with the usual toppings of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. And it was huge. It took up most of the styrofoam container both in diameter and in height! It actually kind of reminded me of Mayor McCheese from the old McDonald’s characters…without the cheese. The best part was that I could eat it with a knife and fork without anything falling out…it was quite a feat. They have the usual Eastern European staples in the store along with a bakery selling some desserts and bread. There’s four tables of four chairs so you can eat there if you choose. It really is a hidden gem! It’s one of the best doner kebabs I’ve had in St. Louis!

Pickletime Deli & Market – Menu with Prices – 7405 Hardeson Rd # A, Everett

If you haven’t been to Pickle time, you need to drop everything and go there. It’s amazing. My only beef with Pickle time, is there is no big huge vat of Pickles that are so big it makes you feel embarrassed of your own manhood! I forget this fact once I devour one of their sandwiches. Let me tell you perfect and spot on. I ordered the Meatloaf sandwich and it was to die for. The meatloaf itself was dare I say moist but not moist so much that it makes the bread soggy. The bread is toasted perfectly crisp. The house sauce is perfect in flavor and it really works with the Meatloaf Sandwich. On another day, I had the perfect Reuben sandwich. The meat was perfect, the Thousand Island sauce was perfect, the sauerkraut was perfect and you ended up with the perfect Reuben! You may be put off paying $6.99 to $8.49 for a sandwich! Let me tell you this they do not skimp on the meats and after all is said and done, you are getting more than what you paid for. Besides do you really want to go to a sub shop and eat the equivalent of a loaf of bread and flavorless meats! You would think Pickle time invented Deli. They for sure get it spot on! Please though humor me and get a vat of big fat deli pickles!

Doner Burger – Menu with Prices – 321 E Alameda Ave p, Burbank

3.5 Fastfood Persian/Iranian doner, kabobs, and burgers! Just North of Ikea in Burbank! I got a Mixed Doner (both chicken and beef) for a somewhat pricey $8.80 w/tax. Quick Tips: -Located in the same plaza (that has limited parking) as Big Mamas and Papas Pizzeria. Parking in Burbank really isn’t difficult though. -Two 2tops outside. Ample, hip seating inside. A mix of high tops for small groups. -No pets, No restroom -Great for casual pick up -ranch, ketchup, and I believe both Aleppo pepper and sumac are all available -Other meats include grilled chicken, lule kabob, German hotdog, falafel, beef tongue, and bandari (Iranian sausage) Taste 3.5/5 It surprised me that it was more like Fast Food (which is not an insult). Doner was super tender. iceberg lettuce and raw tomato are also inside. Wrap was crisp on the outside and chewy inside. Ketchup and ranch were not expected, I should have asked for hot-sauce and/or a side of hummus. Price 3.5/5 An average-sized burrito. Didn’t last two meals, but filling Service 4/5 Good, nothing memorable.

Cross Bay Deli & Grill – Menu with Prices – 10510 Cross Bay Blvd, Jamaica

Been coming here for over a year about twice everyday, and I have never been to a deli so accomadating as this one. Keep this in mind it’s a Deli but they adhere to great customer service so well, that when I requested a beef patty with coco bread they told me they didn’t have coco bread. I requested to Lindsay if he can get the bread because I love beef patty’s with coco bread and cheese, and sure and behold about a few days later he had the coco bread. Best Deli I’ve ever been too. Pictured below is a beef patty with cheese, bacon, and hot sauce. Thank you again for exceptional service.

The Salad Place & Rotisserie – Menu with Prices – 5392 Mission St, San Francisco

So I love me some sandwiches! Like a true, hearty, fresh sandwich. There are not many places is the city that wow me in this space (sadly). That was until I found this gem! So I stumbled upon it when I had an intense sandwich craving. I ended up in the mission and was searching online for possibilities. This caught my eye and had an incredible menu (beyond extensive) so I gave it a shot! I can’t begin to express how impressed i was. Not only was the bread, cheese, meat, veggies all fresh and delightful, but the salad options blew my mind. Everything is made fresh daily, and you can taste it! Egg salad, crab salad, pasta salad, broccoli salad… it was a salad extravaganza. I ordered a panini and a veggie sandwich. The panini was a meal for 2 for sure, and the bread was so light and fresh. Plus I was able to save half for the next day (It was equally as amazing). The veggie sandwich was divine. The dutch crunch was some of the beet I’ve found, the veggies were perfect and crisp as well as generous portion size. I ended up ordering pasta salad as well just because the multitude of options were so enticing. And like the sandwiches, they definitely delivered a whole lot of deliciousness! They have sandwiches, paninis, wraps, coffees, breakfast sandwiches and side options, as well as a ton of healthy salad offerings. And to top it off there were the sweetest little ladies keeping everything going that made the visit even more enjoyable. Do yourself a favor… go! Even if it’s a trek, it’s totally worth the venture and your taste buds will thank you!

Chickpeas Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 700 N 10th St, Sacramento

First time here and we got the falafel pita. The falafel itself was really good, crunchy on the outside moist and parsley green on the inside. Which paired nicely in the pita pocket with delicious humus cucumber and tomato. However I was disappointed that they ran out of tzatziki sauce, it’s part of the Mediterranean food, the tahini sauce was a good replacement but it was still not tzatziki sauce. I also tried 3 of their self-serve salads the garbanzo was my favorite! The tabbouleh salad and carrot salad were good but seemed to lack salt, tasted very lite in flavor. What I absolutely appreciated is getting to put my own toppings in my pita pocket. The Mediterranean pickles are on point, so are the seasoned onions (only foodies will understand) This place is totally worth checking out

Lakeside Deli & More – Menu with Prices – 4888 St Paul Blvd, Rochester

Good beer selection with lots of micro options, a decent candy selection for the kids, friendly employees, and really affordable yet quality sandwiches make this place a hit. Kudos to Lakeside Deli for offering a delicious veggie burger option for only 4$, and interesting and tasty sub and sandwich options like a turkey reueben along with the standard deli meat options. Stop by Lakeside Deli on your way to the beach for a picnic or call ahead for lunch or dinner if you’re in a hurry. It’s a good value for quick dinner options or to pick up the essential grocery items like milk, beer, and bread ?

The Beestro – Menu with Prices – 66 E San Francisco St Suite 21, Santa Fe

A fast-casual take on Mediterranean in Santa Fe’s Plaza district. You choose whether you want a stuffed pita sandwich, a rice plate, or a salad; you choose a protein such as lamb gyro meat or chicken shawarma; and then load up on all the freebies such as pickled beet, radish, cucumber-tomato salad, and other Mediterranean toppings and garnishes. I went with a pita stuffed with hummus, beef shawarma, with lettuce, cucumber-tomato, pickled veggies, radish, and tzatziki sauce. A nice touch are “Belgian Fries” that you can get with your meal with your drink; just make sure to mention you want them at the beginning of your order so they can cook them while they make your entree. After having adjective-Mexican cuisine throughout the week, having some tasty and quality shawarma was a welcome palate cleanser! It was a mess spilling out of the pita as I ate it, but it just shows they’ll entertain my desire to put a little bit of everything in my meals. The fries were cut and fried fresh, a welcome indulgence that you can easily split. Definitely one of the better pita sandwiches I had, if not the best, and my main detraction is the cost. It was spendy for a lunch, but given the location and options around it, it may actually be a value. And again, I can’t fault the ingredient quality: no chewy gristle or brownish greens in my dish. The 20 oz. drink is for iced tea or lemonade, and being a trash person, I was hoping to get something (more) caffeinated and carbonated. But that’s my failing, and it WAS a good Arnold Palmer I mixed for myself…

Kabob & Gyro Grill – Menu with Prices – 5005 Foothills Blvd #3A, Roseville

Kabob & Gyro Grill seems to have found a much-needed niche in Roseville, as they have joined just a handful of restaurants in town that offer a full menu of Mediterranean favorites. I actually visited this fine restaurant last year, but I’m only just now getting around to posting it on Yelp. The menu is placed behind the counter. In typical taquieria style, you make your selection from the menu board, pay for it, and your food is delivered to your table. No tips are expected, although they do have a tip jar on the counter. I was so impressed at the fast and friendly service, along with the outstanding lunch I enjoyed, that I stuffed a couple of bucks into the tip jar, as these guys do an outstanding job. There are so many delicious choices on the menu, that it’s almost mind-boggling, but I chose the Mediterranean Platter, as I was hungry, and it sounded delicious. The menu says the following about the Mediterranean Platter, “All platters come with basmati rice served with a side of salad, side of hummas, side of tzatziki sauce (Cucumber sauce) and a hot piece of pita bread. Mediterranean Platter features slices of grilled chicken.” Quite a modest description for such a delicious meal! Where shall I begin… Note the beautiful presentation of the meal, including the onion slices, and the garnish on the hummas and the tzatziki. When you order, you have your choice of three levels of spiciness: Mild, medium, or spicy. Mild is the “default,” unless you ask your server otherwise. I chose medium, with was just right for me, as it offered just a little “kick,” but didn’t leave me craving for water to put out the heat. The marinated chicken was placed on the rice, which made for a delicious main entree. The salad was chilled and fresh, the pita bread was hot and fresh, and the hummas and tzatziki sauce was fantastic. I dipped my pita bread in the hummas, and used the tzatziki sauce as dressing for my salad. Such a delicious lunch! My only criticism, and it’s very minor, is they don’t serve beer, as it would be enjoyable to enjoy an exotic Mediterranean brew with this delicious meal, but that’s not a deal breaker, and the next time I visit this fine restaurant, I pan to enjoy a mango lassi. I rate this fine restaurant a solid four stars, as the food is delicious, reasonably priced, and the staff is efficient and friendly. I’m a “foodie” and I’ve posted HUNDREDS of my restaurant adventures, all over the west, and parts of Mexico, on my web site. Check it out at www

O’Brien’s Bistro – Menu with Prices – 4350 Bayou Blvd, Pensacola

The outward appearance of this restaurant does not accuratly reflect whats inside. I thought this was a regular run of the mill place to get a quick bite after a long flight, but I was totally wrong. This is a fine dining establishment in every way shape and form. I was wearing shorts and a tshirt and felt under dressed. I sat outside since it was such a nice day out. My waitress brought out some water and some biscuits and butter. These.biscuits. I dont know What blend of herbs and spices they put into these things, but these biscuits! They are an experience in themselves, make sure to ask for them when you go. Aside from the biscuits, I had a salad which, you know, a salad is a salad. Dont get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with it, but at the end of the day a salad is still a salad. With such a wide array of options across the three menus (brunch, lunch, dinner) there is something for everyone, so stop by and checknit for yourself.

Wally’s Deli Menu with Prices 711 N 17th St #4103, Allentown

I was very disappointed. The sub had very little meat. 2 slices for each half of the sub. The deli sub it wasn’t. I was eating mostly bread and lettuce. Got bacon on my sub it came in little bits all broken up. I paid $18.00 for a sub that was almost all bread. Never in my life have had a deli sub like that. When you think deli you expecting load with meat but not this location. I end up throwing away the sub.The sub was horrible. It actually made me sick to my stomach. I had a proper deli sub at their emmaus location. You can pay less and get a way better sub at Jersey mikes or primos. Don’t waste your money at this place.
