Low keyed, sweet place. Order at counter and the food was well cooked. One of us had pork press and enjoyed the crunchy toastedness of the bread and tenderness of the pork with the well cooked onions. We also ordered the puero asado or traditionally marinated pork meal with side salad and yucca fries. The pork we wonderful and plentiful, and the yucca fries were good and not plentifuly, only 4 of them. The side salad was simply shredded head lettuce and three slices of tomatoes…boring and not worth it really. Next time I will order a different side. Not many veggies in Cuban meals, and I may consider having a green smoothie before I next eat Cuban food.

Soy Guajiro Cuban Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 901 E 10th Ave, Hialeah

I’ve not been to Flamingo Plaza for thifting for a while (my bad). We were there yesterday to meet a group. After our program we need a quick lunch and my husband found this place on-line. It’s a Cuban buffet with a huge selection of freshly cooked food. I stayed simple – roast chicken with yucca and tostone. The server insisted I have salad, she must have given me half of an avocado. The yucca was just perfect, smooth and yummy. Chicken also perfect. My husband had the ropa vieja with moros and maduros. Maduros were sweet and gooey. His portions could have served 3 people. It’s a fun place, people sitting and eating . A musician was playing a keyboard and singing – just great. If you’re thrifting or just out looking for excellent food – go to this place

Fuel House Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1144 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island

So time after time we want to have a good experience but it’s not so. Once, we ate in and waitied for food for over 45 minutes. I ordered chicken wings and they were the worse wings I’ve had in my life. Turned out that they were breaded. The waitress had no idea. I wanted to eat gluten free food but that didn’t happen. The wings were also covered in fat. Next time, I ordered a Cuban wrap and a side order of sweet potato fries but instead they delivered some chilli fries. Today, we are busy cleaning and decided once again to order from Fuel so called ‘healthy place.’ Ordered a Cuban wrap for my 5 year old and myself. His and my wrap had rotten lettuce in it. Need I say more? This is our last time giving this place a chance.

Natalie Peruvian Seafood Restaurant #2(Glendale) – Menu with Prices – 205 N Central Ave, Glendale

After trying a restaurant the night before that let us down we really needed something substantial. This little gem was only a 15 min walk from our hotel. So off we went. It’s nestled into a mini strip mall. We walked in about 3pm. It’s a small intimate space but at least half of the place was full. We were immediately greeted with a warm and friendly smile and seated upon entering. The waitress left us our menus and took drink orders. We settled for water to start. So my sister, her gf and I decided to try a few things as I’d never had Peruvian food. So we ordered calamari and friesld yucca as an appetizer. We ordered ceviche, chaufa and steak and fries for our entrees. We also ordered a Peruvian beer, horchata, passion fruit juice and Peruvian cola. Calamari was perfectly breaded. The calamari was fresh as it was not gummy. It came with a side of lettuce and salsa. Yucca fries had a light batter to them as well and were delicious with their green salsa. We asked the waitress for some mayo and lemon and added the green salsa to it as a makeshift aioli that was yum with calamari and fries. The food came out fast. The steak and potatoes were seasoned well and beef was tender. The ceviche was delicious. They topped it with some corn nuts and hominy and was just a party in your mouth. Now to the chaufa. It’s a meal in it of itself since mixed into it is beef, chicken, clams, mussels and octopus. It was a friend rice X’s 100! We had no room for dessert and had plenty to take to go. Our bill came out to a little over $100. Well worth every penny. If you get the chance…get there ..and get there fast!

SOMOS CUBA By Chef Pititi – Menu with Prices – 1401 3rd Ave, Chula Vista

As a Cuban that grew up in Miami I must say that Chef Pititi makes just about better food than Miami does! I love knowing that I can satisfy my Cuban food craving in San Diego! I got the Macitas De Puerco (fried pork chunks) with Arroz Morro (rice and beans cooked together in the same pot) and sweet plantains. The pork was surprisingly juicy, and flavorful due do that killer mojo Chef Pititi makes! The Arroz Morro was delicious with little pork chunks in it. That really reminded me of my grandmothers cooking while growing up. The sweet plantains were perfectly cooked. I’ve had them before in Miami where they just overly burn them, but Pititi got it perfectly! My fiancé got the Lechon Asado (roasted pork) with rice, black beans and sweet plantains. The pork was super soft, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. Even the onions on top added a great flavor and texture to the dish. Pititi’s black beans are to die for! They are the prefect balance of salty, subtly sweet, and SECRET CUBAN DELICIOUSNESS that I strive for in Cuban black beans. I also ordered the Papa Rellenas (fried potato balls with ground beef inside), and they were fried great and tasted sooo good. I tried the chorizo croqueta and it was a game game changer for me. Maybe I’m biased because this is the food I grew up with and miss from back home, but oh my god this food was delicious and I can’t wait to go back and try something else on that delicious menu!

Pupuseria Menchita – Menu with Prices – 1606 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles

So how good is this place, my family convinced me to drive them 20 miles from our house to come get pupusas. Yup, 20 miles through traffic and having to go through LA to get to this place. Was it worth it: ABSOLUTELY! I tried the black bean with no cheese and the family had raja de queso, chicharon [pork] & bean and cheese. My daughter had the carnitas or chicharon with yucca and they gave us so much yucca; I love yucca. It reminds me of my dad driving my mom around looking for yucca when I was a little kid and it was not available in a lot of places. I ordered the fried plantines and crema and the waitress asked me if I wanted them by themselves or with beans; WHAT!!!! My mom has made us plantines since I was a little kid and NEVER had i seen someone eat them with beans. Did I like it, well I would not order it again. The beans are great but I just don’t feel they go with the plantines. Must be a Salvadorian thing! My mother is Costa Rican and so many Tico foods [that’s what Costa Ricans are called by locals] are similar to Salvadorian foods but again no beans with plantines for me. This was definitely worth the drive! The place is small but has a small patio outside too. There is a laundry next door so some of the patrons were coming to eat while they washed. There is one single bathroom and the place could have been a little cleaner but there was a lot of people coming and going.

Marshall Donuts & Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 3144 N E St, San Bernardino

I always go here for the Thai Iced Tea with Boba. Super yummy. The boba is always soft and chewy and never hard. It kind of almost feels like it melts in your mouth. The Thai iced tea is always sweet but not too sweet. Honestly the best Thai iced tea I’ve ever had like nothing can compare. Showed my family this place and they love it as well. Honestly, I’ve never tried anything else from this place except the green tea smoothie and the strawberry and banana smoothie. I’ve only tried the green tea smoothie once and I did not like it. I just felt like it didn’t have any flavor like it wasn’t sweet at all. Maybe it was just that time I don’t know. The strawberry banana smoothie is also suppppppper yummy.

The Bread and Honey House – Menu with Prices – 4700 E Van Buren St, Phoenix

On the basis of the chilaquiles alone, five stars. No, seriously — they’re the best chilaquiles I have ever eaten at a restaurant, completely spank my homemade ones, and even beat out some friends’ abuelitas’ versions (not that I would ever say that to their sweet little old lady faces). We ordered ours with the egg sunny-side up, and it was the most beautiful, crispy sunny-side egg I could have asked for. Runny on top! Crispy on bottom! Delicious! Go, eat the chilaquiles, maybe get a second batch to go… SO good. The fries were also shockingly well-executed. I work on the assumption that fries at any given restaurant are going to be a letdown, but Bread and Honey House has their fry game figured out. They were a great size and perfectly cooked, and the little hint of cinnamon sugar was an unusual touch. (Don’t knock it ’til you try it!) The cubano was good, but I don’t know that I’d personally get it again. Bread and Honey House serves their cubano with a super generous portion of (fantastic) braised pork; while totally delicious, it also kind of overpowers the flavors of the rest of the sandwich. But in all honesty? If we hadn’t also ordered the chilaquiles, I’d probably think more highly of the cubano. And if “massive pulled pork sandwich with a little Cuban spin” sounds more up your alley than a standard cubano, it definitely won’t let you down. While I was waiting to order, another diner informed me the fish tacos were amazing, and I’ll definitely be back to check them out. The tuna melt (featuring FOUR SLICES of American cheese, per the menu) also looked solid. So did the burritos, and the quesadilla, and the burger, and… Yeah, I’ll be back.

Coffee House New Orleans – Menu with Prices – 1522 Robert E Lee Blvd Suite B, New Orleans

Many nights I crave a semi healthy home cooked meal and have no idea where to go because let’s be honest, there aren’t many options in this city for that other than Piccadilly or Whole Foods hot bar (correct me if I’m wrong). When I saw the Fud bar open up and peeped their menu options, I was delighted. I’ve been numerous times now and have yet to be disappointed with my meals. My go to meal is the rotisserie chicken which comes with 3 sides and some type of lemon glaze that is delicious. I usually rotate between the creamed kale and spinach, roasted sweet potatoes, Mac n cheese when I’m feeling bad, or the sautéed vegetables which are cooked to perfection. I don’t know what they are doing back there in the kitchen, but I have yet to be able to get my veggies to taste as amazing as they make there’s. I’ve also had the shepherds pie which is sooooo good as well as the pork carnitas quesadillas with green rice. My husband recently had the Cuban sandwich and said it was a bit rich, yet delicious. If you are in the area and are looking for something healthyish yet good, I definitely suggest coming here.

Madruga’s Cafe Corp – Menu with Prices – 6895 Bird Rd, Miami

Wow! This family owned restaurant is authentic and has some of the best Cuban food I have ever had. If you are in the area it is worth a stop to try some of the best pork, garbanzo bean soup, or any other Cuban delight. The owners were so welcoming and made each member of our family dishes prepared to their liking. Cuban coffee was perfect, take out or dine in seating. Open Monday -Saturday for breakfast, lunch or early dinner. 6 am-6pm. We will be back.

The Grill at 1450 – A Global Kitchen and Bar – Menu with Prices – 1450 Sarno Rd, Melbourne

So my mom called and asked me to meet her and my two aunts for dinner. Problem is I already cooked rib eyes and potatoes for dinner and ate it. Being a good son, I got in my car and drove to the restaurant. Located inside what appears to be a event space. To the left you will enter a very nice restaurant with a bar. The server was very friendly. I ordered a couple small dishes. The garbanzo bean soup and yucca fries. To be honest I have seen this format before. We serve a dish or two from all over the world. Just about every place like this has failed. This is a bit different though since the focus on a tapas format. Interesting….. My soup came and to be honest, I really enjoyed it alot. The small olives added something that I have never experienced before. The yucca fries were expertly cooked and the sauce paired very well with it but was a very safe offering in my opinion. I did get a taste of my moms fish, it was mahi I think. Not my favorite but I would like to come back and try some more.

Cuban Island Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5508 Williamson Rd, Roanoke

Thank you yelp for always helping me find the best places to eat when I am out of town! I sent my husband to order food so I could stay in the car with our dog. I got the Cuban sandwich, and my husband got the fried pork with rice and beans and plantains. He also got us a chocolate flan cake and the pineapple flan cake. This place was packed with locals, talking about how great the food was! My husband even got to use his Spanish to order food! The real Cuban bread really made my sandwich special, even though I won’t say it’s the best Cuban I’ve ever had. It was solid, and it was huge, it was easily as big as my forearm. My husband’s pork and rice and beans were delicious, we are trying to figure out how they cooked the rice, I had a reddish tint to it. Flan cakes were out of this world! They’ve recently moved locations, same street just a couple miles down the road. Look for the yellow building!

Brasil Arts Café – Menu with Prices – 1230 State St suite C, Santa Barbara

Usually really great! Made error ordering reg fries rather than yucca fries and they helped me replace and didn’t make me feel terrible about it haha and acai bowls are good but unfortunately their blender has banana in it already so for me at all anyone who doesn’t like bananas you have to ask for it to be made without which they will do, sometimes with a little confusion. I enjoy the BAC, it’s usually good… I recommend the chocolate mint smoothie for the green go for a healthy choice! A lil decadent fun can be had with the desert menu like passion fruit mousse, also don’t miss out on the cheese buns… they have fun colorful artwork on the walls, lively music, a bar area for people not wishing to be seated at a table, and nice glass bottles of water for yourself or your table, a small number of outside seats available for the good weather. Otherwise inside is fairly pleasant until the blenders go on… also offering classes like Afro Brazilian rhythm and capoeira… Good for parents and kids on Wednesdays as kids under 10 eat free from 5 to 8 PM each week. I definitely noticed that the cooking can vary a lot when I get takeout from different days of the week so I would say them it’s mostly quality control and consistency that is hard. A few times I’ve had items made totally by someone who did not know what they were doing and it’s been very disappointing. Other times there so well done it’s hard to believe. Aside from that varianceI you will have mostly all good things from the salads to cheese buns and yucca fries are def my fave…. The açai bowls juices and coffee’s are all fresh and nicely made, and the atmosphere is upbeat and can vary from quiet to more boisterous.
