Worst experience. Ever. I ordered a hot tea and blueberry bagel with a light spread of cream cheese. They didn’t add the bagel to my order so they had to void the first order and start over. When I got to work I noticed my bagel wasn’t even toasted, it was all torn up and I had to literally scrape 2 oz. of cream cheese off. Wish I could take my tip back. Won’t be going back.

New York Bagel & Deli – Menu with Prices – 576 West Side Ave, Jersey City

When we walk in here, you see a friendly older asian couple running the shop. It feels like a bit of dive, but they make fresh a whole bunch of food to order on the flat top grill. I ordered a bagel and cream cheese, and they perfectly toasted the bagel with the perfect amount of cream cheese. Even NYC, they have started globbing on piles of cream cheese, but this place still does it right. It’s a bagel on the sweeter end, perfect compliment to the cream cheese. This place is a local secret, and they sell more random house supplies than the local corner markets.

The Press Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2079 Compton Ave # 106, Corona

I’m convinced that I’ve never had a bagel w/ cream cheese this tasty. The bagel is a good size and the cream cheese is fresh. This isn’t a bagel you get from a grocery store, very soft and crunchy in the right places being that it was toasted. I also ordered a hot chocolate , so tasty. More than enough hot chocolate (medium sized) . I can say that I was taken aback at the price but after receiving my food it was a little (a little) more understandable. For a hot chocolate and bagel with cream cheese I spent $10 and some change. The lady at the counter was very nice, the music is perfect. There isn’t a lot of seating , like two chairs and this seems more like the place for people on the go, but I’m not complaining.

Fresh Start Market and Espresso – Menu with Prices – 3020 Center St NE, Salem

I used to love going to this place for a quick breakfast. But we went today without having gone for awhile and the quality has gone waaaaaaaay down hill. We ordered a plain bagel, toasted, with cream cheese and a bagel sausage breakfast sandwich. The biggest issue was the breakfast sandwich. What we got, was a microwaved Jimmy Dean biscuit sandwich. This is obviously not a bagel sandwich. Also, even if I had been okay with a biscuit sandwich, I definitely don’t want a gross, greasy, msg filled, microwaved sandwich. But even the plain bagel with cream cheese was a failure. The bagel itself was terrible. It was thin, dense and very dry. When they toasted it, it got even drier and was burnt in places. And the tiny serving of cream cheese they provided barely covered one side of the bagel. This was a huge let down. However! I do have to say, I went here for lunch a couple of weeks ago and got a black bean burger that was very good. So, go ahead and give it a shot for lunch, but for breakfast, you are better off just buying something in the frozen section and microwaving it yourself. It would probably be cheaper and you’d at least be able to pick out something you actually want.

Genuine Water Bagels Menu with Prices 305 S Washington St, Alexandria

When I wake up, sometimes I just crave a toasted bagel with cream cheese, and a tall glass of milk. Today, I visited Genuine Water Bagels. A small, and compact restaurant, that supplied nothing of that with their bagels. The cashier was electric early in the morning, and provided smiles on a tired soul. I had an everything bagel with butter, while my boyfriend had the lox sandwich on a toasted asiago bagel with smokes salmon, capers, onions, and a tomato. Both of us were satisfied, and more than anything, filled us with good food, and smiles. I recommend 10 times over.

East Coast Bagel – Menu with Prices – 14370 Culver Dr, Irvine

This is by far the best bagel shop in Orange County. As a NJ native and a total bagel snob I can tell you that most bagels out here are just rolls with holes in them. They don’t have to correct texture, chewiness, or flavor. East Coast Bagels is the best bagel you are going to find out here! I’ve done the leg work! On a Sunday morning expect a line out the door, but it moves pretty quickly so don’t let that discourage you. Know what you want ASAP, because their system is to call you up from the line to the center of the counter, order, then get back on the line to pay. And they want to get your order quickly to keep their system moving, so there is definitely a rushed east coast feel going on (which I personally don’t mind at all). If you order to eat in they give you some paper plates on the top of your bag, most people opt for to-go orders. I’ve had plain, egg, everything, etc, all bagels were great. Their croissants are a little too greasy for my taste, but are delicious with and egg and cheese sandwich if your heart can take it! My one complaint if I had one would be that when they are in a rush they can get a little skimpy with the cream cheese, and it may not get evenly spread over your whole bagel. Some may not care about this, but I do. Usually the beauty of ordering a bagel with cream cheese is the generosity of the serving and the convenience of being ready to eat as your drive off. If the bagel needs to be taken apart and reconstructed (or else half the bagel will be plain) or you got cheated on your cream cheese these benefits for paying a premium for a bagel with cream cheese disappears. You might as well pay for a side of cream cheese and do it yourself. The cream cheese issue is most certainly not enough of a deterrent to keep me from coming back to the only real bagels in OC. If you want the real deal, you MUST COME TO EAST COAST BAGELS!!

Anita’s On Walnut Bakery & Cafe – Menu with Prices – 324 E Walnut St, Lancaster

I’ve eaten at Anita’s literally 10+ times because of sheer convenience. I keep telling myself “it’ll get better next time” but it never does, and then I’m kicking myself for spending the money afterward. 1. The food: Isn’t terrible and they have a good menu, but it’s just SO inconsistent. One day your sandwich will be hot, and the next day the cheese won’t even be melted on the grilled cheese (“the Roberto”). If you order soup, there is no consistency in how much you get. I came in with a friend and we each ordered the choose two option with a salad and a bowl of soup, to go. My friend got two heaping scoops of soup in her to-go container. A different employee did my order, and I got two measly half-scoops of soup. My container was barely half full. The man in front of us was having a bowl of soup and eating in-house, and he got one scoop (I heard him order a bowl and not a cup). Another example: the bagels are doughy, chewy, and NEVER toasted. I ordered the bagel with lox one time and my bagel wasn’t toasted AT ALL. It was disgusting. If you order a bagel and cream cheese, you can count on your bagel being barely even warmed. 2. The customer service: The service is ridiculously slow. I’ve waited 30 minutes before with 2 other people in the restaurant for my food. The employees have zero sense of urgency and honestly they don’t even act like they care that you’re there half the time. They seem like they’re there to hang out, and not to work. The only friendly employee is Hannah. The rest seem untrained, immature, and like they don’t want to be there. 3. Prices: Seem kind of high, especially for the coffee. If you watch them make your food and see the ingredients they’re using and how EVERYTHING is pre-made, you’ll be disappointed. Nothing is locally sourced. They use the same bag of arugula from Giant that I buy. I would understand the prices if the food was consistently good and had some local ingredients. Overall…….I had SUCH high hopes for this place and have been let down over and over. Not letting myself go back. I’ll walk an extra 5 minutes to a different cafe in town.

Bagelsaurus – Menu with Prices – 1796 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

Getting a Bagelsaurus bagel is no joke. It requires a trip to Porter Square and, on a Saturday, a 30 minute wait outside in the line wrapping down the block. I’d advise you pick up 6 or a dozen and stash in the freezer so you can satisfy that craving without the odyssey. M-F you can call ahead with pre-order, but on weekends, walk-in only. On the weekend, if you’re planning to get a bunch and you’re not picky about variety, you can mostly bypass the wait via the Grab Bags express line: 8am-10am, mixed baker’s dozen of assorted flavors (you don’t get to pick flavors) for $25, option to add spreads ($5/ tub) and/or coffee. No substitutions, no bagel sandwich add-ons. Is a bagel *really* worth all of this? For a Bagelsaurus bagel, yes. My obsession began in the office kitchen: I picked up a bagel as I would any other breakfast food leftover from a meeting. I could tell by the exterior they looked super legit: crispy exterior, lots of bubbles. I toasted it and topped with some of the weird-bits-in-it cream cheese. I took a bite, and my life was forever changed. This was, hands down, the BEST bagel in Boston. How do they do it?! It’s so chewy soft inside, but so crispy eggy perfect outside! Oh, and the cream cheese with weird bits in it? Honey. Rosemary. Cream cheese. Honestly, why isn’t all cream cheese honey rosemary? On a sea salt bagel, this is the pinnacle of perfection. It’s Peak Bagel. Your search is over, but your journey is just beginning.

New York Bagel & Deli – Menu with Prices – 3720 W Lake Rd, Erie

I cannot rate this place highly enough. The customer service was fantastic and our breakfast sandwiches were so delicious. My boyfriend and I both had an egg, cheese, and sausage veggie bagel. After we checked out, we saw the immense selection of homemade cream cheese and decided to order another plain bagel to try the cream cheese. She gave us extra bagels. We joked with them that we would drive the whole way to Erie (from Altoona, PA) just for a bagel but we think now after trying the cream cheese we really would, haha! What better way to word this review than to say, “Would Drive 4 hours for these bagels.” 10/10

Yum Yum Donuts – Menu with Prices – 16530 Soledad Canyon Rd, Canyon Country

Yum Yum is one of my favorite places to stop by when I need some coffee or a bagel on my way to work. They’re super friendly, they’re very reasonable priced, and they offer such a wide variety of sandwiches/bagels/donuts/drinks/etc. that it’s no wonder I go in there and see so many people in line! I also love that they’re open 24/7 because other places (such as Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts) don’t open until later on in the morning. My typical order is just a medium coffee with a toasted everything bagel and cream cheese. They’re very close to my house as well so that’s an added plus!

Zucker’s Bagels & Smoked Fish – Menu with Prices – 273 Columbus Ave, New York

I’m not positive why this Zucker’s location gets so much Yelp hate, because my experience here was great. I will say – if you get here on a Sunday morning, be prepared to wait over 10 minutes in line or order ahead on their app. This place is so popular, and for good reason. The service is timely and quick and the bagels are absolutely delicious. I especially liked the wide variety of spreads they offered. I ordered a Flatiron bagel sandwich on a toasted plain bagel and I was blown away by the chewy texture of the bagel and the scallion cream cheese. My friends all took a bite of this bagel and they were all so disappointed they didn’t order it because it was that good. It IS a little overpriced though, so mentally prepare yourself to cry as you shell out $12 for the better bagel sandwiches. Each sandwich comes with a complimentary pickle and cole slaw. I loved the pickle, but the cole slaw was pretty bland and the texture was uncomfortably slippery.

Bodo’s Bagels – Menu with Prices – 505 Preston Ave, Charlottesville

Best Bagels in C’ville (Maybe the World). I have been eating at Bodo’s for many years, and I work downtown so the Bodo’s on Preston Ave is close enough to work to eat there conveniently. The orders are always fresh and correct. They have a wide variety of bagels, cream cheeses, and condiments/toppings. If you want an everything bagel with sausage, egg, & cheddar, or a plain bagel with bacon, egg, & provolone, or a salt bagel with jalapeno & lime cream cheese (it’s actually really good), they have it all. And even at rush hour breakfast time when there are 40 people in line you can be in and out in less than 10 minutes. If you haven’t tried a bagel from Bodo’s Bagels you must stop by you next trip to Charlottesville.

Water Street Bagel Co. – Menu with Prices – 239 E Water St, Syracuse

Having been living England for the past few years, I felt like I have been deprived the right to decent bagels (please don’t tell me that I haven’t looked hard enough; I have, very very hard. So my grief is genuine). When I finally came back and was informed there is a new bagel shop in town, of course I had to go early in the morning LOL So I went with my husband on a Wednesday morning, and we were both very pleased that we went. I got a everything bagel with garlic cream cheese, and my husband got the western bagel. with one bite, I knew right away I have gotten myself a good bagel; it was chewy but not so much so that you will end up sporting a superman jawline for the rest of the day; it was also soft but too soft that it would just become an unchewable, muddy texture once met with saliva. Yeah… I have been through many bad bagel relationships in the past LOL I did question my choice of an everything bagel with garlic cream cheese right before work; but hey I might have been a nuisance in the office that day, but my spirit was the most beautiful of them all.
