I read a previous review discussing the terrible hostess. I completely agree. From the second we walked in she looked completely bothered by our presence. She pretty much played on her cell phone a good amount of the time too. The only people she cracked a smile for was two girls she apparently knew because she was later chit chatting with them at their table and ate some of their food. We requested to sit outside once a table cleared so she said we could wait at the high tables. Well, her friends came in AFTER us and were seated outside first. Hmmm, okay. That was rude. Then when my husband flagged her down to ask about sitting outside again she was like oh yeah ok. No sorry, no whoops I forgot, no nothing. Zero stars for the hostess. First impressions are everything, and after all the amazing hostesses at everywhere we’ve been to, this was a miss. Then in came the server, Britney!!! Five stars for her!! She was phenomenal. Super friendly, great service, overall excellent. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles. This was delicious!!! The chicken breast was not one bit dry. I also added the side of poppy slaw after seeing other yelpers say it was good. It was light and refreshing and complimented the heaviness of my entree well. I also had a bite of my husband’s burnt ends in a bun. I’ve never had burnt ends before so didn’t know what to expect. These were tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. I also ordered the Cider. It was perfect for sitting outside on the patio with the great view.

Nexus Blue Smokehouse Menu with Prices 1511 Broadway Blvd SE, Albuquerque

Better than I expected, but one major flaw. It was handled well, but it’s a flaw. Upshot is we’ll be back to try it again and we hope to never see this particular flaw recur. Years ago I went to the original Nexus, shortly after it opened. People had been raving about the chicken and waffles, so I got them: the chicken hadn’t been properly cooked through and a cut into the drumstick ran blood. The staff whisked it away and replaced it with nachos (can’t mess those up, right?) and my wife and I enjoyed our evening. I wasn’t a fan of the Nexus beers so I didn’t rush back. Because of the buzz around the new Nexus Blue Smokehouse, I arranged to meet a friend (who lives near there) for lunch. I got the burnt ends with red chile sauce and greens; my friend got the chicken and waffle. Guess what? The fat leg of chicken (which _looked_ flat-out wonderful) had not been properly cooked. My friend made a cut into it and blood ran out. The very on-it waitress who was swinging by to see how we were doing just looked at it and went to take it away. She asked what my friend would like and he got the same order as me. And the burnt ends and greens were great. The BBQ was a little sweeter than I like but everyone does things his own way: the meat was tasty and done just right. Nice smoke flavor, nice meat flavor, nice level of fat. Price was a little on the warm side at $11 for a half pound of the ends (I was watching carbs so I turned down the accompanying bread; my friend accepted wheat bread with his replacement order) and the collard greens (which were very delicious and not overly salty) were $3.50. The manager came over to apologize to my friend – very professional – and she took his meal completely off the ticket (no charge even for his replacement meal of burnt ends and greens): this was handled wonderfully. The service was great with my tea and my friend’s diet Coke being replenished as needed. The room was really nice, with one of those garage doors that opened to let in a perfect Albuquerque spring day. We’ll be back for the barbecue. And I’m going to order the chicken and waffles, despite this run of bad luck with them. If it’s okay, then yay. If not, well Mr. Carson is going to need to get this figured out.

Rosedale Barbeque – Menu with Prices – 600 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City

I’m sad to report that I just don’t get the hype behind Rosedale BBQ. I’ve lived in the KC metro most of my life and had never been here but always knew about it as a staple on the KC bbq scene. On the Fourth of July it was one of the only bbq places open so we decided to check it out. I will say that I love the ambiance. It feels like the kind of place that probably hasn’t changed in 50 years and I love that. Also, they have a huge beer selection, which is always a good sign. I’m a huge fan of burnt ends so I ordered the burnt ends and fries and was stoked to try them out. The fries were great but it was kind of downhill from there. The sauce is good but nothing better than others in town and unfortunately the burnt ends literally tasted like pot roast – no smoke or char at all. I’d love to like Rosedale bbq but it just isn’t as good as others in town.

Big Rascal BBQ & Grille (BR BBQ) – Menu with Prices – 3437 NW Blitchton Rd, Ocala

Ok. Here’s an updated review. Although I have had a few good meals here, I find it positively infuriating when restaurants are inflexible with their menu. I wanted a combo plate of ribs and burnt ends… well, you would have thought I’d have asked them to donate a vital organ to a stranger… impossible. I suggested that they sell me burnt ends by the pound to go along with my entree… NEVER! How about you just charge me a big up charge for your “inconvenience”. Nope. WTF??? I want to order MORE food, so you can charge me MORE money…. so what happens is I order something I didn’t really want in the first place. It tastes like regret and disappointment. I eat 2 bites and left it. I’m now angry, hungry,$50 lighter- and won’t be back Super pleasant surprise! Big Rascal is serving up plates of perfectly smoked meats and super tasty sides at a killer price. The huge menu has something for everyone: interesting starters like fried banana peppers and an array of entrees from smoked wings to baby back ribs, salads, sandwiches and so much more. The sauces come to your table warm and delicious- be sure to try the liquid gold mustard based sauce!! Side dishes are really solid and we even splurged for dessert (bread pudding) at our servers recommendation. It did not disappoint! Looking forward to trying the brisket and burnt ends. Beer was ICY ICE cold! And 2 for 1. Honestly, what else could you ask

Spotlite Club – Menu with Prices – 898-836 Moowaa St, Honolulu

This is a hostess bar. However, the hostesses are super polite rather than pushy, as is experienced in other similar venues. This is a large place with ample parking. There is a limited menu, but the food is tasty. While you are there, you can take the traditional route, buying hostesses drinks to have them pay attention to you. Or, you can go solo or with friends, just to eat and drink in a comfortable, clean environment. The choice is yours.

Rebel Kettle Brewing – Menu with Prices – 822 E 6th St, Little Rock

Wow Iâ??m not a review person because Iâ??ve worked in the hospitality industry my whole life but I had to write this review. The service was so bad it ruined the whole experience. Nobody greeted us when we walked in , so walked up to the bartender and she barked at us that there was a hostess… so we go to the hostesses stand, they were all standing around in the back corner by the bathroom talking so thatâ??s why they must have missed us when we walked in… service wasnâ??t great either but On the bright side the strawberry nitro was delicious! But the crawfish cheese dip was so cold that we were completely grossed out and decided to leave. Hope they fix some service/food issues, could be a good spot.

Hickory Log Bar-B-Q – Menu with Prices – 5047 Welborn Ln, Kansas City

The location was decided on by an employee who is transferring to another department. Well, the BBQ restaurant is ran by a husband and wife team and was well informed that we would be coming during our lunch hour (12:00pm – 1:00pm). The first few of us arrived at 11:50am. It’s 12:10am and I notice that the wife is going to run the show on her own. There was another table of 6 and a table of 3 that she was serving as well. She took our order at 12:16pm. When she returned with our drinks she was mixed up; also with our food. The beans taste like pork n beans out of the can with their vinegar BBQ sauce. The burnt ends (with I was ready for) were so darn tough) I was so disappointed. My boss ordered burnt ends as well and hers looked more like what the should look like and moist. I couldn’t eat them…nor did I try. This place really don’t know what real BBQ taste like. I knew they would because it was a little hole in the wall, owned by a mom n pop and I smelled the smoke down the street. I’m tellin ya’, don’t let the smoke smell fool ya! I will never return nor try it…even if it was catered at the job. Sorry. Pros: What I did like about the order of service is, the food was delivered as it prepared not all at once. Oh! I forgot to mention that was a total of 24 in our party. Now, I’m waiting patiently on my burnt ends so I can rate how the food tastes. Horrible! Crap! Tough! I’m disappointed! Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3 Food: 1

Mulberry BBQ – Menu with Prices – 2441 N 11th St, Lincoln

Amazing BBQ. I would say the best in town. The ribs are smoked in just a way it doesn’t fall off the bone, but is juicy and tender. They were dry rubbed ribs and perfectly seasoned. And there was a lot of meat on those bones. The pulled pork wasn’t dried out like other BBQ places in this town. The burnt ends were actually moist and tender with a nice spicy kick to it. Unlike other places, where the burnt ends might as well be beef jerky due to the toughness. The smoked chicken was actually half of a whole chicken and amazingly juicy. The sliced brisket was also amazing with a nice spice to it. The potato salad had a homemade quality to it and tasted great. The Mac n Cheese was super cheesy with large shells instead of the normal elbow noodles. You could tell it was made from scratch unlike the made from a box taste other restaurants will serve. The only think surprising is the bbq beans. It isn’t the normal beans you maybe familiar with. They must be more of a North Carolina style of baked beans. Not the normal Bush’s Baked beans others are serving. Still the beans were good, but with a lot of kick to it. So if you like some spiciness, you should try the beans and the burnt ends. For the price, you get plenty of delicious BBQ.

Dame’s Chicken & Waffles – Menu with Prices – 530 Foster St Suite 130 Suite 130, Durham

I wish I could give more stars. The hostess and the male waiter greeted me at the door. They were very friendly. My waitress Sarah was very knowledgeable, helpful and professional. I like my eggs fried hard, initially I didn’t ask, so I sent them back. I apologized to my waitress. She was understanding. She had the cook make the entire plate over. I had classic waffles, chicken cutlet, eggs and grits. The food was delicious. A gentleman came to my table to ask if the eggs were better. I told him they were. Once Sarah came with the check, I inquired about the gentlemen. She told me he was the owner, Dame. I am so impressed with their hospitality. I live in Florida, however if I find my way back to Durham, I will be patronizing Dame’s. I encourage patrons to do the same. Keep up the good service!!!

Pacific Southern – Menu with Prices – 3832 S Pine St, Tacoma

DO NOT COME HERE! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! DON’T WASTE YOUT TASTE BUDS! We heard this place has changed hands so not sure if it is good, but we came to try it on the way home…. bad choice…. SERVICE: SLOW/LOW ENERGY/CARELESS/NO ATTENTION/NO CUSTOMER SERVICE First sign, we were the only ones there waiting at the door to be seated and the hostess was right in front of us…. she took a few minutes before acknowledging us and before seating us. Second sign, we noticed after seating that 6 tables were dirty and there were only 2 waitresses. Based on the amount of people the 2 waitresses would have been able to manage. But the waitresses were too busy dilly-dallying and chit-chatting with a particular table while the kitchen counter was full of foods to be served. The waitresses just weren’t hustling to get them out. We watched one waitress took only one plate off the kitchen counter to serve vs using a tray to load and serve multiple dishes at once. The plates of foods were just getting colder by the minute sitting on the kitchen counter. Third sign, a large table of 12 got up and left and had words with the waitress. The waitress looked upset and so did the 12 customers. I asked one of the customers leaving and the lady said they sat there for 40 mins and the drinks never even got served let alone their foods. They were tired of waiting and the lack of attention and service that they just weren’t going to wait any longer. We were contemplating if we should leave too and then their food (same as what we ordered) were serves to us. FOOD: NO TASTE/NO SEASONINGS!!! The food looked good but as we started eating we didn’t taste any flavor. Overall, everything fell flat! – CHICKEN & WAFFLES: It was supposed be 4 pieces of chicken but what they don’t tell you is you get a wing, thigh, 2 chicken strips (HALF a chicken breast split into 2 strips to make pieces 3 & 4)! Deceiving! You would assume 4 PIECES of chicken not 2 pieces & 2 strips! Btw, they never served the syrup with my waffle…. – COUNTRY FRIED STEAK: The gravy was WATERY. The batter and country fried steak SEPARATED and CRUMBLED into little bits. The toast and eggs were fine. – SIDE ORDER OF GRITS: It was too THICK & DRY. The texture was more like PLAY-DOH. Butter was not served with the grits. There was ZERO FLAVOR and texture was not right. – SIDE ORDER OF CATFISH: NO FLAVOR but it was moist. Total waste of close to $60.

Social Southern Kitchen & Cocktails – Menu with Prices – 5232 Robinhood Village Dr, Winston-Salem

This was my first visit to Social. I arrived about 10 minutes before my date and sat down at the bar. I was greeted immediately by the very friendly bartender. He was cordial and professional. A few minutes later I was approached by the hostess and ask if I had reservations? I said I did not. She asked if I would like to be seated and I said I preferred to wait for my dining partner. I told her my date like to pick a table. That seemed to annoy her. She quickly let me know that most of the tables were reserved. I said that is okay even if there are only two available tables, my date would still like to choose. That annoyed her even more. I personally think the host or hostess is the face of an establishment. They should always be on their best behavior. I was not impressed with the lack of professionalism I was met with. I choose to be seated before my date arrived to appease the hostess but it soured the beginning of what could have been a great night. Once my date arrived we where greeted by a very polite, professional waitress that was very good at describing the menu and specials. She made recommendations and took our order without rushing us in any manner. The food was great. We started with the fried green tomatoes. This is a dish that in my opinion is very easy to get wrong. This was the best I have ever had. For entrees I had the duck breast. It arrived at the table cooked to order. My date had the Wahoo with red peeper sauce. Both were very tasty. The wine recommended by out waitress paired great with our food. For desert we had the grilled strawberry cake. Again ,delicious. We ended the night with fresh brewed coffee that was also very good. Overall it was a good dining experience with excellent food. Had the hostess been a bit more pleasant it would have been a five star night. As it is I will still give it four stars.

Cody’s Smokehouse BBQ – Menu with Prices – 6401 S Louise Ave, Sioux Falls

Let me start by saying I’m a BBQ snob. I have judged many BBQ contest sanctioned by the KCBS. I love BBQ and know what a good product is. I’m visiting family in Sioux Falls and we decided to grab a sampler on carry out. We ordered a slab of ribs, a pound of burnt ends, a pound of brisket, and a pound of sausage. We also ordered fried pickle appetizer, bbq beans, jalapeño corn, Mac and cheese, and cucumbers and onions. The brisket was the best – good flavor, nice smoke ring and color, mostly tender. The burnt ends were second place good flavor, nice smoke ring and color, mostly tender. good flavor, nice color, a little inconsistent: some tender, some tough, some moist, some dry. The baby back ribs could have taken first. great flavor, color… the issue is how dry they were. If they can figure out how to keep these bad boys from drying out they’d be the star of the show. The sausage was okay, but not our fav. 1 out of 4 of us would order this again. The flavor missed the mark. The texture was good and they were moist. The beans were a traditional brown sugar bean. We enjoyed them. Add some brisket or burnt ends into the beans… and BAM, another hit! The jalapeño corn was a pleasant surprise. We’ll come back. We’ll try to sample many items again to see how our visits compare.

Crown Fried Chicken – Menu with Prices – 11111 Jefferson Ave, Newport News

So, it’s Thanksgiving and I’d planned to have dinner with my daughter and her family. I call her at 1pm to ask what time should I be there and she’s out shopping and haven’t started cooking yet! Driving up and down Jefferson , and nothing is open until I spot Crown Fried Chicken. I’m famished and decided to check them out. It’s a small place with seating for maybe 10-20 people. You order and pay at the counter, if it’s dine in then you take a seat and someone brings your food to the table.I ordered the fried chicken which comes with 1 or 2 rolls to go.There was no wait time because a guy came from the kitchen with some freshly fried chicken.I paid for my order which came up to a little over $9 with taxes which I thought was a bit steep but just thought whatever.Sitting in my car the aroma blew me away and I just had to have a peek. Whoa, am I seeing correctly? So I counted the pieces, 4 drumsticks, 2 whole wings,2 thighs and a breast plus 2 rolls? I gotta try this chicken right here right now! Damn, it’s possibly the best fried chicken I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve eaten a lot of fried chicken in my travels up and down the east coast.Crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, moist on the inside, not greasy at all.I particularly liked the dinner rolls instead of a biscuit, which can sometimes be a bit heavy laden. The pictures I’ve included only shows about 4 pieces of chicken, that’s because I ate the others before I got home, which is only about 3 miles. This is definitely my new chicken spot!
