I like Covert Una Pizza. Little place, dim, just a couple guys working in there, very nice people. Seating if you want to eat in. Situated next to a liquor store (Frontier Liquors). ‘Una’ is a style of pizza down here characterized by it’s crispy, light crust. Covert is pretty good. I’m from Chicago and while there are plenty of pizza places in EVille, none compare to up north so you have to do some searching. Covert is in my top 5 for sure. I’m a fan of small neighborhood pizzerias.

Gino’s East – Nashville – Menu with Prices – 311 3rd Ave S, Nashville

Chicago Native. Where to begin. it was with skepticism that I went here, remembering what Pizzeria Uno’s attempt at expanding is like. I am not sure what the Chicago people on here are talking about with rave reviews. This is absolutely nothing like Gino’s: 1. Crust. This is the essential component. The crust on our pizza was dry and had the consistency of dry bread. The pizza was soggy in the middle, and barely heated all the way through. The crust should be buttery and flaky like a pie crust, tender and amazing. Not here. 2. Sausage: one of the things that makes Gino’s and other Chicago pizza places great is the very fennel -laden chunks of mouth watering home made style sausage. Again, utter fail. And where were the layers of cheese and sausage? There was barely any sausage on the ‘sausage pizza’ whereas in Chicago it would have been loaded with said meat. What was on there was bland and uniform little pellets, like the pre-packaged stuff you would find on any corporate delivery joint pizza. At $31 for a 12″ pie(which I would gladly pay if it even came close), I was expecting more. Honestly, the best comparison for this pizza would be Pizza Hut; one of their personal pan pizzas, and that was pretty much what we got. I don’t write a lot of bad reviews because I am all for lifting people up, not tearing them down. It is really disappointing however when time and again companies trade on the good experience of an iconic restaurant or landmark and re-package it with no more energy than an amusement park tourist trap. Sorry, but I won’t be returning.

Chicago’s Pizza With A Twist – Menu with Prices – 3641 Cox Rd F, Richmond

The folk here are very nice, which was something Big Al’s was known for. The layout is still the same so you might be hit with a but of nostalgia when you walk in. I was excited to try this place’s pizza because I love to try non-native styles of food. The menu includes a lot of Indian influences and while I wanted to try one of those, I decided to go with a traditional pizza first. The pizza was good, it was very cheesy, and the vegetables were fresh. But I found it odd that their pizza didn’t quite look like a chicago deep style dish nor did the crust take like anything except dough. I had hoped that the famously yummy chicago deep crust dough would be found here but alas, I was mistaken. The storefront is still pretty but I think it could do with a cleaning. There was a lot junk behind the chairs and in the bathroom. Granted, it happens but it didn’t help my appetite. If you’re looking for a pizza place that includes some Indian influence, I would definitely give this place a try. But if you’re looking for an authentic Chicago style deep dish pizza, I’d go somewhere else.

Rance’s Chicago Pizza – Menu with Prices – 1420 Baker St, Costa Mesa

One of the few Chicago style deep dish pizza joints in Orange County. Personally I’m not a fan of Chicago style pizzas as I feel there is way too much cheese. We ordered their house special and it was well balanced. The cheese didn’t overwhelm and the tomato sauce was really tasty. The crust was nice and crispy and not soggy. Over all it was a good experience. Keep in mind that these are made to order so there is quite a wait between when you order and actually get your food. Also the pizzas are deceptively filling. We ordered their pizza for two since it was just two of us and we took half home.

Lombardi’s New York Pizza and Wings – Menu with Prices – 3311 N Green River Rd, Evansville

If youâ??re in Southern Indiana and craving a foldable slice of Brooklyn pie, this one is worth checking out. It is pretty close to what I call NY style pizza, which I find subjective anyway (even if I am not a New Yorker). Iâ??ve eaten many slices of pie at multiple NY pizzerias/delis all over the five Burroughs of NY, and they are all different, but at least similar in design, and this one meets the basic criteria for NY style pie (to me, an outsider). A nice thin crust with a little â??pullâ? to it, and a bit thicker around the edges (I call it the pie grip) . Sauce was good (not great, but pretty good). Quality toppings, not too much or too little, just the right amount. In short, it is a well balanced pizza and far beyond anything youâ??ll get at ANY chain pizzeria. The location is off the beaten path (in a strip mall of sorts), so unless you live in the neighborhood, you could easily miss it. Not much to say about the decor and ambience of the place, but the same can be said for so many other restaurants with Great food. In fact, most NY style pizzerias and delis I have been to are much the same; the focus is on the food, not the atmosphere. If youâ??ve got good pie though, who cares about what color the walls are or whether the table youâ??re eating at cost more than your car. I should point out that I ordered a whole pie, not just a slice, which makes a difference IMO. I will just have a slice for lunch next time I am in the area though to see if there is much difference in the par cooked slices compared to a whole pie.

Peace Love and Pizza – Alpharetta Menu with Prices 4055 Old Milton Pkwy #14, Alpharetta

With so many pizza places nearby one has to distinguish a business in some way to be competitive. Well, PLP, with its flavorless crust pizza certainly fails to meet that goal, imho. Read on, Yelper. The restaurant is in a newer, up-and-coming area of Crabapple. Parking is behind the buildings. Ok, the ambience is 60’s/70’s/80’s vintage rock and roll. You know the words to all the music. The decor is cool and fun. One star. The staff, young and energetic, are fine. Two stars. Order at the counter, pay, and they’ll bring your order to your table. Get your own drinks at the fountain. PLP has proper sweet and unsweetened tea. Three stars. But “Pizza” is in PLP’s name, and that’s where PLP disappoints. Toppings are good. Check. Sauce is solid. Check. The problem is the crust. Meh. It’s neither NY thin or Chicago thick. Think kinda in-the-middle Dominos crust. Even McPizza-maker Dominos has a tastier crust than PLP, however. As my grandmother used to say, “Tastes like cardboard.” For comparison and competition, 850 Pizza, across the street, does a great job with exceptional thin crust, Italian style pizza. Vintage Pizza, around the corner, offers quality, authentic NY style pizza (and great salads and lasagna). Even Alpine, over at the Silos, who isn’t even known for pizza, does a solid slice. Hey, if you’re in a pinch and your not too discerning PLP is fine. But there is definitely better pizza within walking distance. So let’s see where this goes. Can PLP survive the Crabapple pizza war? With their current offering in this space I think not.

Windy city pizza chesapeake – Menu with Prices – 480 Kempsville Rd, Chesapeake

My group of avid travelers decided to come here once we got back from our trip to Chicago to compare deep dish pizza. My husband called ahead to make sure the pizza was ready for us when we got there since it takes about 45 min or so to get it ready. We still ordered some tasty appetizers like cheesy garlic bread, loaded fries, and mozzarella wedges. Definitely a fan of the apps! I love that the fries are crinkly cut and they load it up – I had to ask for a side of ranch, but that’s more of my preference for loaded fries. All the apps came out fast and hot. It was easily devoured by my group of 6. The real reason we were here was for the pizza! We did a half and half of the Southside Special and classic cheese. So how does it measure up to Chicago? Full disclosure, I only tried Gino’s East & Lou Malnati’s deep dish pizzas in Chicago – my favorite being Gino’s. It’s different in terms of cheese to sauce ratio from the two mentioned. I have heard this is most similar Giordano’s. It has more of a pie crust to me versus others I’ve tried. I thought the pizza was good, but maybe too cheesy (if there is such a thing?) for me. Again, I think that’s down to my personal preference. What will have me coming back to the place is the hometown feel of the place. It feels like a neighborhood joint while highlighting the best of Chicago. Service has been super friendly both times I’ve been in and they are very accommodating with children. Overall, I think this place is worth a visit to try deep dish pizza. It’s the closest you’ll get to legit deep dish just shy of a visit to Chicago.

Subway Café – Menu with Prices – 1000 Herr St, Harrisburg

Pizza Review I love being introduced to great pizza places! This is a spot I’ve driven by plenty of times but would never think to stop. A group of us went here on our work lunch and were in/out in an hour even though the tables/bar seats were full. The pizza was recommended, so we all got one. Each one is a personal pizza the size of a large dinner plate, and is more than enough for lunch. Not sure if it is, but the thin crust tastes like phyllo dough. Either way, it’s light and crispy. Everyone ordered different toppings and all were enjoyed. My one complaint is that the only sauce served has meat, so if you want vegetarian you have to order the white pizza which is served without sauce. The sauce is homemade and my coworkers said it was great.

Rosati’s Sports Pub & Pizza – Menu with Prices – 5140 Foothills Blvd #110, Roseville

First off, I can’t believe I haven’t written a review on this place. I’ve been coming here about a year now and they literally have the best pizza in the entire Sacramento valley. Trust me, I’m a big boy, I eat at a lot of pizza places! So obviously I’m a regular at this place and they know my name and what I order, but the thing is, the staff remembered me and my wife after just the first visit. I’m talking a 2 month span between my 1st and 2nd visit. I couldn’t believe it! As a business owner myself, I dream of my company and employees giving the type of service the team at Rosati’s provides. It’s not just 1 person, but everyone that works here. So let’s talk food! 95% of the time I order pizza, my go to meal is the Thin Crust White pizza with Artichoke. It comes with spinach and tomatoes. I promise, this will be the most delicious pizza combination you’ve ever tasted. Seriously, you need to order it. The best way I can describe it is: “2 angels dancing on the tip of my tongue” !! Now this is my favorite choice, but if you have never tried real authentic Chicago style pizza, I highly recommend trying it here! As a frequent traveler to Chicago, this is the only place I order from outside of Illinois! Now for the Ambiance. This is a family style Chicago sports bar. If You have a favorite team on tv that isn’t the Bears, white Sox’s, Cubs, bulls or Night Hawks just ask! They will turn on what you want! They rotate their beer and draft choices regularly so it doesn’t get stale! I really can’t say enough positive things about this place and the consistent quality and experience I get.

The Bakehouse at Chelsea – Menu with Prices – 1233 W Olney Rd, Norfolk

The best pizza in Norfolk, and it’s not close. As a native New Yorker, I do not make pizza judgements lightly. This is the real thing, almost like a coal oven pizza back in the city. Light, thin crust, blackened from the char of the oven, while not being crispy or crumbly. They make a fantastic pizza margherita. The wonderful crust, with crushed San Marzano-style tomato sauce, fresh sliced mozzarella, and fresh basil. It’s pizza perfection. Unfortunately, most places in Virginia don’t even know what it is, selling any manner of white pizzas and sliced unripe tomato topped pies as margherita. Have no fear ordering it here, it is legit. Almost like being at Lombardi’s in NYC. They also have several other pizza creations, including seasonal specials, with a variety of meat and veggie toppings. On this visit, I discovered they are now also selling Sicilian slices. They look awesome, and will try next time. They told me they plan on making them a regular item. Oh, by the way, this is actually a bakery, not a restaurant. They do have six tables if you’d like to eat here though, plus a couple of outdoor tables. There is also a craft beer bar adjacent, that you can bring the pizza into if you’d like to have it with a drink. As for the other baked goods, they are all also excellent. They rotate a wide variety of items, so you never know what you’ll find. If you are a pizza junkie in Hampton Roads, this is a must stop. It’s located in the Chelsea neighborhood in Norfolk, which is the west end of Ghent, near the midtown tunnel and Smartmouth brewert.

Rain Or Shine On Fire – Menu with Prices – 6310 E McKinley Ave, Tacoma

Ok. This place isn’t really represented well in reviews. A large pizza comes to 16 bucks and some change after tax with plenty of toppings. At least as of today when I went on 8/2. People say they are not open. They are. You either walk to the back or through the front to get to the back. The pizza is really good. I’d say it would remind you of Katie Downs pizza or Cloverleaf pizza in a way, just not greasy like the other two. Thin crispy/crunchy crust. They are open 10am until 8pm I believe. If it looks closed, it’s because it’s cooked out of a mobile truck in back. You will not be disappointed in the pizza. Unless you want a non-wood fired pizza with a thick crust. I will be back. It’s a hidden gem. Do not expect all the bells and whistles of a chain place. It’s really good pizza, it’s not like what you’ll find on the east side, and there’s plenty of seating on the inside of the restaurant. You can message them on Facebook messenger.. If you use it. They will usually respond. And you can order ahead. So just try them already!

BIGA Contemporary Pizza – Menu with Prices – 1 Clinton St, New York

My friends and I ended up coming here on a cold winter’s night last minute, without a reservation, and on a Saturday evening, due to it being Australia Day, and a giant crowd at Benson’s. It was prime dinner hour, but Biga was pretty empty despite that, and we were able to be seated straight away. The service was very friendly and informative, and they told us that it was BYO and there was a wine shop across the street if we wanted to run across and buy anything. There were four of us, so we decided to split the panini pizza (two sided, like a sandwich), and the regular pizza. Biga Pizza is unlike other pizza places, in that it emphasizes the healthiness of its dough. I definitely felt that the dough was different from other pizzerias- it was more crusty, light, and not oily, like other pizzas I’ve had here. Both pizzas were not bad, but I would not say they were amazing or recommend to people to come here if it is out of the way. The idea of healthier pizza is nice, and the service and ambience were lovely, but in a city full of amazing pizza places, this one doesn’t quite cut it.

Ocean Park Pizza – Menu with Prices – 2727 Ocean Park Blvd, Santa Monica

Is it true NYC Style Pizza: No…but heck I’m not in NYC anymore. Is it Good Pizza: Hell yeah. After many months of eating bad pizza here in the greater Los Angeles area, I think I have found a good pizza place. So much bad pizza in fact that they weren’t even worth Yelping about. So many places claiming NYC and Chicago Style Pizza…and none of them actually coming through on their promise…How about since you’re not located in either of those cities just claim good pizza (just a suggestion), because when you have lived in either of those cities you know what those pizzas are supposed to taste like (raised in Chicago and lived in NYC long enough to know what NYC pizza is supposed to taste like). I digress… The 14 inch pizza had a nice crisp crust…fresh toppings (well except for the jalapeños they were from a jar)…the crust was not too doughy (even though next time I will order with a thinner crust)…it was a hair thick for my taste. The sauce had a nice little zip. I also ordered some fried chicken…As a vegetarian I allow myself 2X a year where I will eat fried chicken (it is the one thing I had an issue giving up from being a carnivore). This was really good chicken I hate chicken breast, like a lot…I think it is dry and pretty tasteless but the very nice gentleman in the shop said “do me a favour and try these out, I know that fried chicken breasts are usually dry and have no flavour but these will surprise you”. Uhm yes wise pizza/chicken guy…they did surprise me…like a lot. This fried chicken is broasted…which makes it crisper, moister and super tender and supposedly a bit healthier. Regardless it was delicious and FRESH. The potato wedge thingy’s OMG…I could just eat an order of those…so tasty and not french fries…not just potato slices but heaven in a little paper bag. Did I mention the guy that was in the shop…may have been one of the owners was super dooper nice. And he of course was the chicken whisperer. The prices are completely fair for what you get…I will have some delicious leftovers for days!! YUM! Also the store front that I picked up from was not Ocean Park Pizza but it is inside Bud’s Deli…I was a little confused at first…It is in a little strip mall-There is a little parking lot so it is, easy in and out if you are just going to pick up a pizza. There spot also has a few tables and chairs inside in case you can’t wait to get your pizza home and eat it…fortunately for me I live less than a 5 minute drive away…I will be back very very very soon!!! Come here to get yummy eats and really super nice service. Thanks Pizza/Chicken Whisperer Guy!!!
