This was very over the top kitschy themed “surf” bbq place. Under construction so there were tarps and boards by the windows. Walk up menu order at the counter style. Where you pay before you eat. As my first time coming here, the menu was confusing. I feel like they intend on you to order large amounts of food, by making it confusing to order. White meat chicken is a “upgrade”-$$$. With two other patrons before me and normal dinner hour; the food was room temperature; bbq meat was okay, cole slaw was plain and not cold, sauce was inauthentic, and bread was plain. Drinks were fresh. The food is served on an old looking tray and plastic utensils. The entire room was cast in a red glow that was very distracting. At the conclusion of my meal an entire tour bus full of people came in and over crowded the entire restaurant. Needless to say it wasn’t the most relaxing dining experience.

Chef Lee & Pickle Barrel Deli Menu with Prices 1565 Bragaw St #103, Anchorage

With two chinese restaurants being in such close proximity you would think one of them would have given up the location and moved elsewhere but when you try this sit down restaurant the experience is far different from that of Pink Peppers. For one I actual got a metal fork (PP only has plastic utensils) and actual dipping pans for the sweet and sour sauce whereas PP just places a plastic dipping cup on the plate as well as a glass with ice. Yeah yeah this may just be table presentation but this goes to show that Chef Lees actual invests more into giving their customers a more at home dining experience.

Shoreline Sandwich Company Southside – Menu with Prices – 5350 S Staples St Suite 111, Corpus Christi

I have always wanted to try this restaurant but didn’t want to drive all the way downtown so when I saw the store listed on the sign outside the Kleberg bank office building and it was in my neighborhood, I just had to stop in and try. This was simple to find as it’s located just past the elevators right off the front lobby. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was hoping to find a gourmet sandwich shop and nothing like most sandwich shops’ processed meals. I was a little apprehensive about dining in the middle of a business lobby but I found a small table off to the side and once this place filled up with diners, it was quite comfortable and not so unusual or odd feeling being in a bank building lobby. The menu board is a large sign posted along one wall or also the entire wall of the dining room is the more decorative painted chalkboard style rendition of the same menu. I ordered a Cubano sandwich originally but they actually had a version called the Carolina Cuban on special so I changed my order to the special of the day. The sandwich was freshly prepared and had mustard, sweet pickle slices, thinly sliced ham, smoked pulled pork, cheddar cheese and was pressed on a toasted long roll and served hot. This was served on a real china plate rather than plastic or paper and there were real metal dining utensils instead of plastic sporks. It came with one side and I chose the curry rice salad. This was delicious! The meats were full muscle meats and not chopped pressed formed processed lunch meats. The bread was fresh and soft but crispy toasted on the outside and it was a generous portion. Not Jason’s Deli sized portions where you can only eat half a sandwich, but certainly a healthy sized portion that wasn’t skimpy. The curry rice salad had yellow curry, sunflower seeds, raisins and an onion flavor that I think was chives or green onion because it was very mild and only noticeable in a few bites. I loved every single bite of this meal. This was indeed a gourmet sandwich and it was several steps above Subway and the like that serve processed formed lunch meats instead. I much preferred this meal. I also tried the carrot cake. Yum. That was delicious as well and tasted homemade rather than a prepacked processed frozen cake that was thawed and served like so many places serve. Peach tea and plain ice tea were both available in serve yourself containers in the dining area. Overall, this was a win from first bite to last.

Jelisa’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1756 Victory Blvd, Staten Island

Friday breakfast date with my hubby we decided to support and give a new business a try. I’ve never had Dominican breakfast before so we had to try the Mangu platter. It was really flavorful – def not low fat everything is fried lol fried cheese, fried eggs, fried salami and then a huge portion of mashed plantains with sautéed onions. We also tried their French toast, nice thick bread served with fresh fruit. Food is def made to order so prob not a place to try if you’re in a big rush. There was no table service at least when we went, just one girl behind the counter where we went to place our order and then picked up our food from counter when ready. Not fancy, things come out on trays with plastic utensils. Def authentic Dominican food, it’s a nice to have another ethnicity for food represented on Staten Island

Ideal Bagel Co Menu with Prices 815 W Broad St B, Athens

I appreciated the economical breakfast but found the flavor severely lacking. I ordered an everything pumpernickel bagel with roasted veggies. It looks like they were probably cooked many layers deep in an oven so they were cooked through but had no browning at all. They also were not seasoned and I had carrots and celery mixed in. Is eating celery and carrots on a bagel a trend because it certainly isn’t something I’d seen before. As I bit into the sandwich I had a stream of oil run out the other end, down my arm, on to the table, and my entire mouth was coated in oil. After getting over the gag factor I removed the veggies, blotted the bagel, and ate it plain. The bagel was fine but the roasted veggies were a hard pass. The place was also big on plastic utensils, cups, disposable plates, etc. which felt really wasteful. If this place gets a dairy free cream cheese I’d probably risk another visit but eating oiled veggies on a dry bagel isn’t an experience worth repeating. Someone told me they had hummus but I didn’t see that listed anywhere and we weren’t given the option at ordering so perhaps they were out?

Mel’s Cafe @ The Alley of Victory Bar – Menu with Prices – 721 Bolivar Rd, Cleveland

Sorry but I don’t understand the glowing reviews. The food is good, had blueberry pancakes, delicious. The problem is the ambiance, which is lacking. All food is served in foam containers and you get a set of plastic utensils with a small napkin inside, which makes it hard to even cut your food. They have no plates, no cups, no utensils. Very friendly waitress but for whatever reason there is a dog bed (yes, for a dog!) on the floor next to where people are eating. I’m surprised the health department hasn’t stopped by here. There was an ant on our table, no big deal I guess. If you order water you don’t get a cup of water, they’ll bring you bottled water and you’ll be charged for it too! Not sure why all the 5 star reviews but I don’t see anything 5 stars about this place and it’s misleading for people traveling trying to find a decent place with ambiance. Had I known I would’ve stopped at Denny’s or IHOP.

Sheba al-yemen restaurant Menu with Prices 340 Central Ave, Albany

I Went here last night for an UYE with a group of 13 or so. The restaurant is unassuming and casual inside. Booths are generous in size and there were 3 tables to seat 4 or so each comfortably in the middle of the room. They were able to push 3 tables together for our large party and we squeezed all around taking up a good portion of the room but still had a great time. Now about the menu and food. I’ve never eaten Yemeni food and had no idea about it to be honest but it reminded me of Indian food in some aspects. The flavors were warm and all our food was served piping hot! For a group this large we ordered multiple of items to split among the table. Portions were generous. The order was something along the lines of: Lamb Soup for everyone, 7 Yemeni Bread, 2 Fava Beans (Foul) w/Eggs, 2 Hummus with Meat, 3 Fahsah (lamb stew) soup, 2 Mushakal (Mixed Vegetables), 2 Haneeth Chicken (I think, the chicken was a whole spatchcock style), 1 Sheba Tray for 4 which comes with Haneeth Masloug, Meat and Chicken Galaba (served with rice and soup or salad). It was quite a feast to say the least. All the food came out quickly just after finishing our soup. A spiced and sweetened complimentary tea was available. Canned soda and bottled water was also available for purchase. The Lamb soup was heavily spiced and reminded me of yellow type curry flavor. There was no meat in the soup, just broth and some pieces of celery. I can’t say it was bad but just wasn’t to my taste. In the future I would skip this and save room for any of the other dishes. The breads were large with some parts chewy and other parts where it had bubbled up thin and crispy. The bread is a great deal and a must have to compliment any stews or dishes ordered! The Fava bean dish reminded me of stewed beans mixed with tomato sauce and cooked down to thick smooth consistency. The egg was no where to be seen so I can’t say if it was mixed in or was not added. This wasn’t bad but wasn’t what I expected so I was a little disappointed but thats not their fault. The Hummus with Meat came and honestly at that point we had so much food I lost track of what I had. The hummus was abundant and pleasantly smooth. The creaminess of hummus complemented the meat and vegetables served on top. I would go back and try this again. The Fahsah or lamb stew was served in a large bowl and literally still boiling when set on the table. served with long handled ladles, minimal chunks of potato mixed with tender shredded lamb in a thick stew sauce. This was well spiced and perfect for dipping the bread in. The bowl remained hot so that some of the lamb dried and caramelized on the bottom of the bowl once you got to the bottom. This with an order of bread would be the thing to get if coming alone. The Mushakal vegetables were on the sweeter side and reminded me of an indian masala type dish. They came with large chunks of potatoes okra and I’m not sure what else. This was super yummy and complemented some of the heavier spiced dishes we ordered. I would order this again. The Haneeth Chicken, or that’s what I believe we ordered; was a whole chicken baked and spatchcock style served over a bed of rice pilaf. This was probably my favorite dish of the night next to the Fahsah. The chicken was falling off the bone and I was able to serve it with a spoon. The rice was lightly seasoned and buttered. There was tons of rice on this platter. The dish also came with some more of the potatoes on the sides. I plan to come again with friends and family to share this dish. Sheba tray for 4 came with a few things but my favorite was the roasted lamb. Served on a huge bed of rice pilaf with lamb 2 ways and chicken breast cubed up with peppers and onions around the edges. This is definitely enough for 4-6 people. I must be a glutton for punishment because I decided to stay for dessert with 3 other adventurous Yelpers. I think we ordered the Arikah. It was ground dates mixed with a bread and covered in cream and honey. Not as sweet as y

The Halal Guys – Menu with Prices – 101 E Expressway 83, McAllen

Let me start off by saying gyros are one of my favorite medditieriean wraps. That being said, I was really looking forward to it out here. When I walked in, the place is nice, the staff seemed friendly but what really caught my attention is the gyro meat rotating on the vertical broiler! So it’s already looking promising. However, when I ordered…I was served the gryo meat that was already sliced and in a serving tray(for the record, the meat in other establishments is sliced from the vertical broiler and then placed on the pita.). By doing that, the meat fails to retain moisture. Needless to say, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt since it had the tzatziki sauce and unfortunately it was dry. The pita was kind of letdown too, as if it wasn’t made fresh. I want to again and hope it was just one time occurence. In the meantime, I’ll have a gyro elsewhere.

Biryani Hub – Menu with Prices – 5745 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk

I had to-go from here, then was finally able to visit this place, since some of the fervor has died down. I went for lunch with some co-workers, including one who is native to Indian food. We arrived and were sat quickly. There was room temp water corked on the table, poured it ourselves into the glasses. There are only 2 things on lunch menu: meat plate or veg plate. The plates are a selection of dishes which include biryani, 2 “curries,” a fried “appetizer,” naan, and dessert. You can choose your protein: chicken, goat, or shrimp. Also you can choose spice level. They have a spice level below mild called American mild (lol). Both plates come out on a sectioned tray, like cafeteria food. Evidently the dishes rotate, but you only have lunch choice of meat or veg plate. I wanted to get meat plate with veg biryani, but you aren’t allowed to do that. I didn’t like my naan, it was too heavy on the garlic. You can see the big pieces on the bread in the pic. The fried meat was good, but I put the pieces in the curry sauce. There were some onions in it too, but they tasted burnt and were yucky. The dessert was a bread pudding I didn’t care for. The 2 curries were both pretty good, but each had only 2 pieces of meat in them. It was much better once I pushed some of the biryani into the sauce. The biryani was good, but a little plain. My friend got veg and it looked really good, that’s why I wanted it! There was a chicken leg under the rice pile, which I gave to my friend. It was too much food once I got to it. Total was 2 good, 2 ok, and 2 yuck. The person who got veg was happiest, I will try this next time. My indian friend didn’t finish her food, she said there wasn’t enough complexity to the spices in the curries. This place is worth a try for a decently priced platter of food, sometimes a surprise is good. Esp if you like Indian food in general. But, if you want more authentic try nearby Nawab, you can get dinner entrees at lunch, if you don’t want buffet. Dishes made one at a time are always going to be better than mass prepped food.

Yummy Japanese Steak House Menu with Prices 12330 Crabapple Rd, Alpharetta

The good: They were open on Christmas Eve. They have enough vegetarian sushi, tempura, and hibachi offerings to put together a vegetarian meal. The tempura was very fresh and tasty. The ginger salad dressing was decent. The avocado, asparagus and cucumber roll was freshly made. The not so good: The hibachi veggies were served with a huge amount of rice and not enough veggies. The veggies were hot and fresh, though. The hibachi sauce was too sweet and I think it had MSG. I got sleepy and had a headache within an hour of the meal, and the hibachi sauce seemed like the likeliest culprit. The salad was slightly wilted and consisted of some plain lettuce with a tiny pinch of shredded carrots, and not even a speck of cucumber or tomato. The miso soup was tasty and had finely slivered scallions and some nice bits of seaweed, but no tofu. I was told the miso soup would contain tofu. Also, the soup was served in a 4 oz plastic deli container. Aside from the awful presentation, why such a skimpy portion? This stuff is cheap, be a little more generous with it! This restaurant has a personality conflict. It has plenty of tables indoors and a lovely patio for outdoor dining, yet even if you order eat-in, everything is served up in to-go containers. There are no plates or bowls, only clamshells and plastic containers. The only cups are styrofoam. This makes less work for staff, but also more waste for the environment and less comfort for diners. But the biggest disappointment was that they had NO HOT BEVERAGES…in December. They only have canned and bottled cold drinks available. There is also a water cooler in the back which has hot and cold water. If I were to ever go back, I would bring my own green tea bags.

Vito’s Italian Pizza – Menu with Prices – 440 River Rd c, Corona

Give this place a try if you haven’t already. So unfortunately I was planning my Dads post funeral luncheon. I was looking online for a place that would cater and deliver the food around d 11am on a weekday. I found Vito’s on yelp and based on the reviews and location I thought I would give them a try. I went down to the restaurant, it’s cozy and had a mom and pop feel to it. It was a good first impression that all but 2 tables were full, I figured this place must be good. I spoke with Rose and discussed what I needed as far as food, quantity, price and delivery was a must. She was very warm and accommodating and offered some great recommendations. Rose called me a day or 2 prior to ask how I was doing and if there was any changes to the order or anything that may need to be added. I really appreciated the follow up because it was a very busy and emotional time and she asked all the right questions to make sure I didn’t forget anything. Sausage and peppers tray: A Lasagna with meat sauce: A Caprese skewers: A Meat ball tray A+++ Garlic bread: didn’t try it but it was completely gone Italian sub sandwiches:A+++ Customer service: A+++ Everything arrived on time, hot and beautifully presented. Around 35 ppl ate and completely finished each tray we had no left overs and I was asked more times then I could remember where the food came from because it was so good.

Santasiero’s Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1329 Niagara St, Buffalo

Delicious! I’ve been hearing about this place for a long time & finally got a chance to try it! I knew I wouldn’t be near a fridge for awhile, no way to store left overs, so I ordered small/side portions. I ordered a side salad with side of spaghetti & mushroom sauce, with one meatball. Sliced, fresh Italian bread was served with the meal. My friend had a full order of spaghetti & sauce with sausage (link). As a side we got the garlic bread with cheese. The garlic bread with cheese was delicious, but daunting to eat because it was so large. Wait staff was friendly. They don’t really seem to have standard menus…you have to look at the wall to see the selections. I have poor vision, so I didn’t care for this aspect. Overall, was good experience & I would go back. Oh, one more thing, I’d recommend sitting in front dining room. The sewer gas issue in this part of Buffalo was evident in the back part of their building.

Bush’s Chicken – Menu with Prices – 1425 N New Rd, Waco

We arrived without planning so it was right at the usual lunch time so slightly crowded. There was nothing to ‘guide’ us to order, etc. No line designators so we stood about until it seemed those who were there before us had ordered. In this establishment, it appears one orders from a counter-person who then proceeds to complete the entire order before placing the tray on the counter for retrieval. Our person got my husband’s hot food order before beginning my salad order and apparently was sidetracked with something. His order cooled before the tray was delivered to us. The food was passable but certainly nothing we could rave about. We won’t be returning but I suppose it could do in a pinch.
