What is the deal with this place? We had visited a few years ago, and remembered the service was extraordinarily slow, but thought it was time to give it another chance, since we live nearby. Our family of three had dinner here the day after Christmas, and we dined alone for the entire hour we were there. Was it a case of us “not getting the memo?” I would think most restaurants within a fairly nice hotel would be quite busy over the dinner hour with a ready clientele of hotel guests. One or two souls came by to check in at the bar for a drink it appeared. The waitress was mostly a bartender who busied herself washing and drying silverware and glasses at the bar but did come over to serve us, with an apron draped over her jeans. It was as if they were not expecting many/any guests and certainly wouldn’t have been prepared if a large group had suddenly shown up without reservations. Something tells me this is probably a nightly routine. Waitress didn’t seem that invested, but pleasant enough. I ordered a steak, and just on that alone, would rate it a 4 star. My wife had a pork tenderloin which she remembers a week later as “ok”. Daughter’s burger seemed pretty skimpy. Even though we were the only guests, waitress didn’t bring a steak-knife (try cutting a medium rare steak with a butter knife) and forgot the wife’s request for a potato substitution. The cheesecake dessert was pretty lame. Anyway….. enough of this place. I’d be surprised if it is still there in a year unless new management comes in.

King Street Tavern Menu with Prices 1767 King St, Alexandria

We used this location for our wedding reception and Craig Luparello was superb at making sure we got everything we needed. He was responsive and willing to work with us when we had demands that aren’t the typical demands. I wish our room block rate was a better price for our guests but, what are you going to do? I guess I have to work more with a hotel chain in order to get better deals. I always get great rates at other hotels that I negotiate room blocks with frequently. Anyways, this hotel has a parking garage that connects with the hotel next door so you have to be careful of where you park and which elevator you take. If you end up at the other hotel, you’ll have to take the long route outdoors to get to the Hilton…or go back to the garage to find the Hilton elevators. The hotel rooms are a lot more spacious than other Old Town hotels and clean. I had a view of the Masonic Temple with metro tracks in front of it but the noise was not very noticeable. The lobby was modern and welcoming. Our guests thought it was a lovely hotel. And they really enjoyed the food prepared by the hotel chef. I wish I was able to finish my wedding dinner because I really enjoyed the steak and crab cakes we selected!

Domaine Hudson – Menu with Prices – 1314 Washington St, Wilmington

My brother, his wife, my wife and I were in Wilmington for a ‘Winterthur weekend’. We were staying at the Hotel Du Pont and were in town for two nights. On Friday we ate at Banks Seafood Kitchen, which was excellent, and on Saturday, we ate at Domaine Hudson, which was exceptional. We had ‘tea’ in the Green Room at the hotel at 3:00 so made reservations for dinner at 8:00. The lobby bar at the hotel was full of guests for weddings that evening, so at 6:00 we decided to walk (10 minutes) from the hotel to Domaine Hudson. We were welcomed and asked if we wanted to eat earlier or enjoy a drink at the bar, which is what we decided to do.We enjoyed two martinis and sat for dinner at about 7:00. The staff were accommodating, welcoming, and friendly. The menu is varied with fish, beef, and other choices. My brother and his wife had the cheese plate for an appetizer. He had the rabbit for dinner and his wife had the roasted free range chicken. My wife had the English pea soup for an appetizer and the New England fluke for dinner.I, on the other hand, took advantage of the $60.00 prix fixe dinner. My first course was the crudo of Hamachi, followed by the charred octopus. My third course was the New England fluke. For dessert I had the crepe cake, all which were delicious! They offer a full bar and an extensive wine list. I found an excellent South African white for $25.00 a bottle, although the average was about $40.00 per bottle. We has a leisurely dinner and left at about 9:30, never feeling rushed. We really enjoyed our evening at Domaine Hudson. It is an excellent restaurant for fine dining in Wilmington.

Courtyard by Marriott Roanoke Airport – Menu with Prices – 3301 Ordway Dr NW, Roanoke

I have stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Roanoke Airport every week for over six months and I have been blown away by the staff that consistently goes above and beyond. I travel frequently for work and often become friendly with the hotel staff, but I have never seen this level of commitment to helping guests feel welcomed. Within the first week, the Bistro staff Lorraine, Velisha, and John knew my coffee order and name so that they could have my morning coffee ready for me when I came downstairs. The front desk staff, Erica, Helen, Susan, Terry and Don always welcome me by name and remembers the little details. When I forgot to book a room one week, Erica proactively reached out, helped me look for alternative options when they were all booked, and monitored any cancellations closely so that they could get me in that week (which they did). This saved me from being stressed out during my work day knowing that they would handle this. In addition to providing wonderful basic guest services, the team makes guests feel known, valued, and cared for. Once when I had the flu while staying at the hotel, the staff called my room to check in on me, brought me dayquil, tea, and bread along with handwritten get-better notes. I received better care being sick at the hotel than at home! The team here truly makes my sometimes exhausting travel enjoyable knowing that I get to see them each week. They are rockstars and I hope you get the chance to know them!

Cagle Steaks & BBQ – Menu with Prices – 8732 4th St, Lubbock

Whenever I go to a different area in the country I avoid everything commercial that I can get back home and experience what the locals eat. When I got into town for the week I was lucky enough to get a Lyft driver who was born and bred in Lubbock, Texas. I told him I heard there was a good steak place in Amarillo. He told me that place (Big Tex I think??) is nothing but a tourist trap with mediocre food. He told me if I wanted a good steak I needed to go to Cagle’s. Two days later, here I am at dinner with my wife and we loved the place. It’s a little bit of a drive out of downtown Lubbock but not bad at all and definitely worth it. The restaurant is on a ranch. At first glance, we wondered if we were in the right place. As soon as you drive through the gates you can see the restaurant in the distance. The atmosphere was amazing, the staff was friendly and the food was great. I’ve attached a picture of the steaks my wife and I got. It was the most tender steak I’ve ever eaten. I’m pretty sure I could have cut right though it with a butter knife. If I ever find myself in Lubbock again I will make it a point to eat there again.

La Bonne Soupe – Menu with Prices – 48 W 55th St, New York

La Bonne Soupe is probably our main French restaurant, or at least it was. Starting off with the food, (the most important part) La Bonne Soupe has some pretty tasty sirloin steak. The steak isn’t top quality but it gives off lots of flavor that would satisfy me any day of the week, But along with the flavor comes in the fat which would take up about a 12th of the steak, I don’t really mind it though. The next category for restaurants I would say is decoration & comfort. Maybe not the 2nd category but La Bonne Soupe does so well in this category that it’s worth being in this review. La Bonne Soupe has a very nice interior, with lots of neat paintings and tables. The place is somewhat dark in the evening which feels good since there are candles that give off light in the center of the table. Sometimes this place feels like home to me, even though it doesn’t look anything like my home. Lastly comes the service. This is why I put 3 stars. It’s simple, we had a horrible experience. Our waitress was very stubborn and stressed, and she was treating us like 5 year olds. She always made annoying comments on everything like “This knife is very sharp, don’t cut yourself” and “here’s dessert for my little princess.” All in all, I would rate La Bonne Soupe 3 Stars.

Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort – Menu with Prices – 505 N Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd, Fort Lauderdale

We arrived at this hotel earlier than check in time so we knew we were going to be waiting for a little bit (keep in mind this was about 11:30 am) we go up to the front desk to check and they say that the guests before us just left and that the hotel room would be ready as soon as it was cleaned (which takes about 30 minutes to a hour) keep in mind we have a suite and there is a main area and another separate bedroom area. So all 6 of us have been waiting in the little sitting area for about a hour and a half (1 pm) the rooms should be done by now since at most they could take a hour to clean. So we go to the front desk and ask if the room is ready, they say no it is still being cleaned. At that point we knew they were just lying to our faces. We waited a total of 4 hours and 30 minutes for them to clean a room that I alone could have cleaned in 30 minutes. We got into the room at about 4:30 pm and found out that we wasted our whole day in Fort Lauderdale waiting for this hotel room. When we got to the room there were only 3 towels, no extra blankets, pillows, or sheets for the fold out couch. The hotel staff is full of lies, making us think that it would just be another few minutes when really it was hours. Awful experience at this hotel, for a hotel that cost 560$ we only got the resort fee back for all that happened to us today which was 36$! And a free breakfast, donâ??t forget about the free breakfast. I would rate this hotel a -15 if I could. Lots of other waiting, calling, complaining, and overall problems happened that day with the hotel but were taken out of the story to make it shorter.

Saltine Bellingham Menu with Prices 114 Prospect St, Bellingham

One of the best meals I’ve had in months! I went to Saltine with my wife to celebrate my birthday and definitely feel like we picked the perfect place! We each started with Old Fashioneds, which were solid. We ordered salmon carpaccio to enjoy with our drinks, which was a nice change from the standard salmon dishes served in the area. Then the meal came: my wife ordered the mushroom risotto and I ordered the pork tenderloin with ratatouille and fried polenta. The risotto was good. The tenderloin was AMAZING! The pork was perfectly cooked and nice and moist. I was initially worried that the peppers of the ratatouille would overpower the pork, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The ratatouille paired perfectly with the pork, and the rosemary in the polenta brought the entire dish together in both flavor and texture masterfully. Overall, it was a fantastic pick to spend my birthday!

Fujiya House – Menu with Prices – 1489 Carl D. Silver Pkwy, Fredericksburg

I went there and ordered NY steak and shrimp. Steak to be cooked medium rare. When it was plated it looked yellow and pink. I told my friend something wasn’t right. I tried a small bite and it was soar and smelt rancid. The cook told the waitress and when she came to table she said “what do you want me to do about it”. I told her it was bad and I couldn’t eat it. She just looked at me and said again “what do you want me to do about it “. I had to tell her to throw it out and take it off my check. Never did a manager come to table but I could see the waitress talk to him across the room and he just patted her on the back. I pray someone checked the other steak in back and didnt serve anyone else the NY steak. I will never go back and plan on never recommending this place again. Bad steak and bad customer service.

Copper Fire Grill Menu with Prices 2800 Civic Cir #500, Amarillo

You know, there are times in life where you hopefully you learn from your mistakes? Well, having a office Christmas party at Copper Fire without been there before was one of them. We made reservations for our office party for 19 people back in the end of October. We called again on Weds, Dec. 12th to confirm just in case and despite being confirmed we still had to talk to the manager upon arriving, since they somehow still didn’t have us down for tonight? What the hell? When you spend almost $2,000 for a dinner you really expect a restaurant to cater to you and pull out all the stops. We had one waitress attending 17 people (never had other restaurants with less than 2 helping). Bless her heart, she was running her legs off so we didn’t blame her. My elk tenderloin was well done instead of rare, 2 ribeyes were well instead of rare and so they had to wait 20 minutes to get their meal. One of these persons that had to wait has a dairy allergy and specifically asked for no butter on the steak and the waitress put it implicitly on the order and it still arrived with butter. And that were the issues just from the people sitting in close proximity. We were always needing more drinks but the poor waitress could not even keep our water glasses full, let alone more alcoholic beverages ordered due to having to run back and forth to the kitchen by herself. And to top it off, there were no desserts available!!!! What the ? You have a big Christmas party booked (well, apparently you didn’t despite our calls) and don’t have enough desserts? I have given restaurants alot of grace before due to a large group. I know how it works, working as a waiter before. Butthis was a total clusterflop of service. The food was lackluster, small side servings and came not as listed for the entree. And the kitchen a complete screw up as far as I’m concerned. The kitchen help were complete amateurs apparently. We will not be back and I will make sure everyone knows our dissatisfaction tonight. I give you 6 months at this rate to stay in business.

Kurt’s Euro Bistro – Menu with Prices – 3305 Peachtree Industrial Blvd #100, Duluth

Made reservations here for 7:00 PM dinner with my wife. Arrived promptly at 7 and was seated immediately at a table for 2 right nest to two other ‘table for 2’. Wife ordered sweet tea and I just had water. Was interesting they brought a ‘Peak’ Iced Tea in a bottle to the table; guess they don’t make iced tea themselves. We ordered a House Salad to share first; the endive was quite sour tasting or maybe bitter is a better description, but the dressing was a vinegar based and was very good. My wife ordered the Jagger Schnitzel and I ordered the Sauerbraten for a different meal. We had just finished our salad and another server brought our two dinners and placed it at our table. This was not the waitress that had taken the order. My wife started to eat hers but a few minutes later the regular waitress came, indicated that the dinners were for the table next to us and she promptly picked up my dinner that I hadn’t touched yet. My wife said she had already taken a bite of hers and indicated she wasn’t going to eat without my dinner being there too; so she hesitantly put my plate back down. I think the couple at the next table were just as shocked at what just happened as we were. What were the chances we both ordered the same dinners? And then to want to remove ours and give them to the next table? Have you been to waitressing school to know you don’t give someone else’s food to another? The food was good; we had recently eaten German food at two other places so this compared. Was a bit more expensive at this restaurant and prepared slightly differently. The Sauerbraten was very good. We finished most of what we had; my wife asked the waitress where the red cabbage was with her Jagger Schnitzel and the waitress indicated it did not come with red cabbage; which we found surprising. At $26 you think they would spare red cabbage on it too just like other German restaurants. We ordered an apple struetel to go and we ate it at home. This struetel was exceptional; the best we had of 3 different German restaurants.Overall a good dinner but a bit of a shock at the dinner mix-ups.

Hickory Bar-B-Q – Menu with Prices – 1082 Brown St, Dayton

After the Old Hickory BBQ on N. Main Street closed, we needed a new place for ribs. Hickory BBQ has ribs that are just like Old Hickory. I’m not sure if these restaurants shared family recipes, but I can’t tell a difference between Old Hickory and Hickory BBQ ribs. House salad dressing and bread offering is similar too. The bread comes from Ashley’s bakery in Oakwood and is fresh most of the time. The rib dinner comes with full slab and two sides for about $22. I’ve tried the pork tenderloin sandwich thinking it may be like the one from the Submarine House, but it was not breaded and the size of a hamburger bun. The rib dinner is my favorite meal here. I’ve tried the NY strip and it’s decent, but nothing extraordinary. I’ve heard the cabbage rolls are good, but never tried them. If you go on a Friday or Saturday evening or holiday like Valentine’s Day or Sweetest Day expect a wait. If you don’t get a seat at the small bar, expect to be standing and the bar area gets very crowded. The nice thing is the hostess will put your name and phone number down and you can wait in your vehicle in the parking lot and they will call you when your table is ready. If you like to come here for New Years Eve dinner, better make reservations by April as they get booked quickly. If you don’t have a reservation for New Year’s Eve, expect an hour to an hour an a half wait after 5pm. This place is one of the nicer independently owned restaurants in the Miami Valley. It has a nice old school feel to it.
