This was a very pleasant surprise. Being a native of the Philadelphia area I am quite provincial when it comes to my cheesesteaks. I found this as a result of being in this area at lunch time with no plans and checking Yelp for lunch ideas. Small place, no frills, friendly woman behind the counter. Seems to be a Mom & Pop operation which is near and dear to my heart. Ordered an “Original” regular size and a fountain drink, $9.12. The sammich was a little larger than what I expected at that price. Overall good quality, well grilled onions and the most overlooked feature – a toasted roll. If you’ve read this far then you’re the type that knows that the roll MAKES the sandwich. Since they don’t have Amoroso, they took a lemon (non-Amoroso roll) and made lemonade (toasted that sucker). Truly elevated the flavor. I will be back to try their house special.

Noah’s NY Bagels – Menu with Prices – 2030 Douglas Blvd Ste 14, Roseville

Went to Noah’s bagels today on Mother’s Day . It was pretty busy . My mom and I told the cashier we wanted ours to be extra toasted but not burnt . She asked if we meant double toasted and I said yeah as long as it’s not burnt . Apparently she didn’t put extra or double toasted on our order , she just put ” steamy , not burnt “. That’s fine , I don’t expect everyone to understand or get things perfect . The reason why I rated this 2 stars is because my mom didn’t enjoy her bagel and said it wasn’t toasted enough and it was soft and lukewarm . I told her I’d take care of it because it’s Mother’s Day and even if we’re just having a bagel , no one should have to eat something they don’t like . I walked up to the cashier and nicely told him we asked for double toasted but we didn’t get it double toasted . After some talking back and forth he took down our order again and re- made it . That was good and fine except the girl working in the back who actually made our bagels the first time decided to get loud and announce ” NOBODY ASKED ME TO DO DOUBLE TOASTED THEY JUST SAID NOT BURNT ” . The way her voice was elevated and the manner in which she was speaking was rude and completely unprofessional . I decided to stand there the whole time while waiting to watch them make the bagel and she kept complaining and talking in a loud voice saying more rude things such as ” IF YOU WANT ME TO GET AN ORDER RIGHT YOURE GONNA HAVE TO SAY IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME ” at one point i heard her joking with the other coworkers who all looked fairly young and I heard her say ” why even come ” and ” stay home ” in regards to my order . I was not happy at all with the unprofessionalism of the staff there and I was even more displeased that the nice man who helped fix our order seemed to ignore or behavior and did not correct her or shut her down . I would never go to this place again simply For how I was treated and how the staff doesn’t seem to take manners or customer service seriously AT ALL.

Big Ed’s Artisan Bread Menu with Prices 601 NE 1st St, Bend

Stopped into the Hop & Brew in Sisters for coffee with my son who is hiking the PCT. After taking him back to the trailhead, I came back to try the grilled tuna sandwich, which is a favorite of mine. When the server brought the sandwich, I let out a little groan because it was on a big roll and I was afraid it would be too much bread. I took one bite and OMG, best grilled tuna I’ve ever had (and I’m kinda old) and the roll was the best roll I’ve ever bitten into. So, this review is as much about Big Ed’s Bakery in Bend as it is about Hop & Brew. The crust and texture of this toasted roll was incredible. On top of that, the tuna salad was delicious as well. People were friendly. Place is clean. I live in Portland but I doubt if I’d drive through Sisters without stopping in for another sandwich…even if I had to wait a while for my food. And, in Bend, I will definitely go to Big Ed’s.

Sushi 2 You – Menu with Prices – 2640 52 St NE, Calgary

This is a hidden gem for all Sushi lovers. A gourmet restaurant quality sushi for a fraction of the price you pay at high end restaurants. Cheaper and way tastier then Edo Japan. I come here for lunch all the time as a student an on a budget. I highly recommend asking for the mango roll or house special roll and you will be surprise for the price you pay, it tastes like restaurant sushi.

Chef’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 3957 Pender Dr # 105, Fairfax

don’t judge a book by its cover…. How true it is for this wonderful little gem in Fairfax. I stopped by there after a meeting at an office in the business park and stopped by for a quick lunch as I was running short on time. I almost walked out as the decor was almost retro and really out dated ( i thought I was going back in time) but it was packed with lunch crowd so I decided to roll the dice. I was pleasantly surprised! I was expecting your run of the mill subs and sandwiches in an office/business park that caters to a captured market but I was taken back by the quality and the taste of the food. In fact, I was really impressed with quality and the low price. This place doesn’t have much curb appeal and I would not bring my wife for our anniversary but they know how to make great subs. I had the steak and cheese sub and it was simply fantastic. I consider myself a cheese steak snob and it was on the money! The meat was of excellent quality and was cooked to order on the real grill, not microwave/conventional oven like many national chains. and the sub roll was toasted in the convection oven. Fries were good but nothing extraordinary. This place is operated by the husband and wife team, and the loving touch shows. Prices, along with the decor, is from the times gone by. I have gone back four times since and I am a happy customer. Try their Manhattan sub-it’s really good. A fantastic value especially given the price point. Too bad this place is invisible to the outsiders but this hole in the wall is definitely worth checking out…….

Fat Katz Sports Bistro – Menu with Prices – 10080 Daniels Interstate Ct, Fort Myers

My wife and I returned here for lunch Friday, July 12, 2019 on our way to the airport. We couldn’t think of a better place to have our last meal while on vacation. And we were not disappointed! I had an ice-cold Yuengling to start things off while my wife had a delicious fresh-brewed sweet tea! Again, we had to have the White Hot Shrimp as an appetizer. Lightly breaded shrimp in a creamy garlic sauce. Perfection! We decided to split a Cheesesteak “sammy” and fries, and were very pleasantly surprised at just how flavorful it was! A half-pound of Shaved Rib-eye, with onions and green peppers, with American & Provolone on an authentic amoroso-style roll! We added mushrooms to ours and it really added to the flavor. The meat was nicely chopped and the mixture of all the ingredients made for one of the best Cheesesteaks we’ve had in years. The fries were lightly seasoned, crispy, and very good. Lindsey was as helpful and friendly as ever, answering our menu questions, making sure our drinks were full, and even chatting with us a bit between customers. We appreciated her hospitality! This place really knows their stuff! And their stuff is AWESOME!

Gandolfo’s New York Deli Menu with Prices 107 E Stuart Rd, Bellingham

Service is fantastic, the cashier woman at the front is super friendly and caring. I got the Rockefeller Reuben, which is a hot sandwich. I chose pastrami and spicy mustard. The bread got soggy pretty quickly and I think it’s because it’s not grilled/toasted enough while the inside is scorching hot. The contents of the sandwich were good except for those two things. If the bread was toasted further, it would have not gotten soggy. This also happened when I got another sandwich couple years ago. Maybe it would have been different if I got a roll sandwich. Also, I don’t know what type of pickle it was but it did not taste fresh; it tasted a bit stale and kinda old. The prices are pretty spendy for sandwiches. Mine was about $13 plus tax. For this type of sandwich, it should be two or three dollars cheaper.

Salus Fresh Foods – Menu with Prices – 101 Peter St, Toronto

I order through Ritual for lunch take out so that’s my only experience thus far. Wraps – 4/5 Salads – 2/5 I think the wraps are really delicious and the range of items you can get in the wrap are great – pickled onions, strawberries, egg, hummus, avocado to name a few! But they are never wrapped/stuffed evenly, so you’ll get all the egg at once, all the avocado at the end, etc. I think they need to train their staff on wrapping/stuffing technique. Also, if you add a protein (I add chicken), the wrap comes out to just under $15. Fifteen bucks for a lunch wrap is insanity. Salads also come out to the same price and mine was so disappointing – I expected a salad brimming full of each ingredient but it was lacking and I usually love a salad-only lunch. I was starving all afternoon and for the price point that’s unacceptable. I would recommend the wraps overall and would say skip the salads. Perhaps an in-person experience yields more ingredients.

Three Countries – Menu with Prices – 1626 Dickinson St, Philadelphia

Meh. Nothing remarkable to say about the meal I had from here today. I ordered a BLT club for lunch and I was not thrilled with my sandwich at all. It just seems to me like they don’t really give a sh*t about the quality of the food they sell. The sandwich was super skimpy on the bacon. My sandwich was comprised of a few small, broken, soft pieces of bacon. This sucker should be loaded with full pieces of crispy bacon!!! It’s the primary ingredient in a BLT?!?! The lettuce and tomatoes were bland, not great produce at all- and the bread was mushy too! My lightly toasted bread was mushy due to it being in a container, with fries just dumped on top and than sealed in a styrofoam container- gathering condensation. After just a few bites, I ended up picking out my few minuscule pieces of bacon and eating them out of the sandwich and throwing the rest of the platter away. I would have been better off not ordering out and eating the tunafish sandwich I had packed for lunch instead. 6 other co-workers ordered from this same place for lunch today too and all agreed that THE FOOD SUCKED. Bottom line- this is the first time, and the last time I will be ordering from here ever again. Don’t do it. Save your money for elsewhere.

Philly Ya Belly – Menu with Prices – 12432 Hwy 99 # 65, Everett

I would not put Philly Ya Belly on my favorite cheesesteak list. It was a large portion for a small size sandwich, very soft bun that was stuffed with finely diced meat and tons of diced onions, swimming in a pool of white American cheese (consistency of cheese whiz). The bun helped hold it all together as did the cheese. It was hot but primarily got the flavor of the onions and cheese. For anyone from the Midwest, it reminded me of a White Castle cheeseburger. I prefer a toasted roll (which maybe was the French bread option), the meat in bigger pieces, a lot less onions and real, sliced cheese (again, perhaps the $1 provolone option). $8.99 for the sandwich with no options, so not inexpensive. Service was friendly and prompt. Very basic interior with plastic and fluorescent lighting, but clean.

Sushi Delight – Menu with Prices – 1 Keewatin St, Winnipeg

Sushi where you get the most bang for your buck! They use less rice per roll than most places I’ve been. I think a basic tuna or salmon roll was only $3.80 and a pacific roll was just over $5.50 and it’s filled with tuna, salmon and shrimp! Long waits but the wait was worth the price and quality of the food!! Cute couple run the joint, they are slow in making orders, decor is not the greatest but the quality and value of the food is worth the wait!

Ran Zan Japanese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1084 Hope St, Providence

Underwhelming and super disappointing. I expected more from the reviews as well as the fact that the owners are Japanese. The sushi rolls were sloppily made where the rice was kind of sparse and falling off the seaweed inside the roll. The roll wasn’t tight either, so if you weren’t careful picking it up, items would fall out. The flavors were ok, but not balanced and not the freshest sushi I’ve had. The price was also silly expensive for what you get compared to better sushi restaurants nearby. I’m ok paying higher prices for quality sushi, but it had better be excellent. All in all, it’s hard to tell if this place was ever really good and declined or if it just had a loyal local following of people that go for convenience of location.

Sugee’s Box Lunch Company Menu with Prices 13225 NE 20th St, Bellevue

I used to really like this place, but it seems they have consistent issues with getting their delivery orders correct these days. It’s a waste of time to have to call again to let them know and wait to receive the correct order. Today’s excuse was amusing. I ordered the BLT, in which the picture shows the BLT toasted, in fact, I’ve never seen a BLT not served toasted – unless specified by the customer. (I have 25yrs. restaurant experience) Well, the toasted picture of the BLT on Sugee’s website is what I ordered on sourdough and it arrived not toasted…so I called and the employee said “you didn’t specify that you wanted it toasted, you have to specify.” WHAT?? If the picture shows the BLT toasted why would I believe otherwise? It also doesn’t say you need to specify. I mean that’s the point right, to go off the enticing picture on a menu?? I guess if I ordered a burger, it might come on an english muffin because I didn’t specify that I wanted the bun in the photo? Absurd. So, instead of apologizing and making it right, he blames the customer and then says “we’ll bring you another one.” Upon arrival of toasted BLT still no apology. Yeah, my business will be going elsewhere for lunch. I’ll “toast” to that!
