Been a couple of times. 1st time was 4.5 star and the 2nd time maybe 2. White queso is stellar and not ridiculously priced. Grab some of that. Lost with poblanos and onion. It is my favorite queso in DFW right now. A+ First visit was 3 enchiladas. They were very good & sauces paired well. Mole sauce wasn’t available unless I wanted it on everything. Strange but ok. Second visit was “shrimp” tacos (Tacos Monterrey). If you remember the old Wendy’s commercials “Where’s the beef?” This was one of those moments. I couldn’t find the shrimp – it’s a taco so there isn’t that far to look. The “shrimp” was a thin line of ground/chopped up corn kernel sized pieces of (probably) shrimp. Maybe 1 shrimp per taco. Maybe they were out? Maybe this is normal? Maybe the cook has never had a real shrimp taco? I was with someone so didn’t want to send it back – in their defense they probably would have fixed it had I complained. But it should not have come out like that. Incredibly disappointing. Black beans, charro beans, and lentils are all great. Refried are good. Rice is ok. 2 bean choices are better. The menu is very . . . linear. Enchiladas, tacos, tamales, chimichanga, etc. Very few combinations. No mix and match. Best to go with someone else or a few and use a divide and conquer strategy to get some variety.

Sayulita Taqueria – Menu with Prices – 2823-057-002, Ocala

I’d come here more often if I didn’t live 40 min away! When I crave tacos, I often think about Sayulita as opposed to any of Gainesville’s establishments. I’ve tried the chips and Tres Amigos (guac, salsa, and queso), and all three components were so good that I couldn’t single any of them out. I’ve also tried a 101 Taco with taco meat, Shrimp Taco, Buffalo Taco, and Mahi Taco (which were all super yummy) as well as one of their classic margaritas. Since my first visit, I’ve gone back one more time and repeated my order of a shrimp taco, tres amigos and chips, and a margarita and enjoyed the meal just as much as I did the first time. The restaurant has a good amount of seating and space; the decor is simple and not flashy (which I like); and both times I’ve gone, there were 1-2 other groups of customers. Again, I would truly be a regular here if I lived closer!

Cantina Taco – Menu with Prices – 117 S Main St, Rockford

We’ve been fans of their tacos getting them at the market as well as through Stewart Square Eatery for years and now we’re so excited that Cantina Taco finally has its very own restaurant! I have not had the chance to eat inside yet but I did order delivery to my work one afternoon and was not disappointed. Here’s what I ordered: 1. The fish tacos – I’m a seafood fan and I tend to lean towards fish tacos whenever I stop at a taco place but I think these may be my new go-to. I was extremely impressed with how well seasoned and perfectly crisp their fish batter was without overpowering the fish itself and their slightly sweet slaw offered a great balance in the taco. 2. Chorizo brunch taco – chorizo, egg, potato – nicely cooked and delicious! 3. Chips and queso – Whatever is in their queso is creamy and addicting. Be warned, you’re probably not going to want to share (though there’s more than enough to.) Overall, I was happy as always with their tacos and would definitely recommend it ?

Taqueria Tepeque – Menu with Prices – 3700 W Dove Ave #700, McAllen

Like other reviewers have mentioned, the biggest draw in to this taqueria are the homemade tortillas. I have been here twice and both times the tacos were ok. The combo is basically the order of tacos and a drink, no charro beans (you have to pay extra) and no potato. I ordered the beans the first time and was very disappointed because they had a lot of the grease on top which I had to scoop out to eat the beans. But to my dismay I didn’t find many beans just mostly pieces of weenies, so it was weenie soup more than charro beans. On my second visit I ordered the potato (on the menu it says it’s topped with butter, cheese, and sour cream). The only toppings I got were cheese and black pepper. I will return for to go orders because I can customize my tacos with pico de gallo and a good salsa at home. But it is a bit disappointing to eat at the restaurant.

Pancho’s Mexican Grill – Menu with Prices – 1525 W Tennessee St, Tallahassee

Love love love this place. Very welcoming atmosphere paired with a solid variety of Mexican staples . They have all the classics: tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas as well as burgers in case there are any picky eaters in the group the bases are well covered. For starters they bring out chips and salsa and the salsa is delicious and they have some pretty solid guacamole and queso if the salsa isn’t enough. I ordered the steak fajitas however they have chicken and shrimp options as well as a “Texas style” with chicken steak and shrimp . I enjoyed my food however it was very hard to get anything other than the carnitas dinner which is my all time favorite. my girlfriend ordered the taco salad which came in a taco bowl and thoroughly enjoyed it. Solid happy hour too, recommend giving this place a try !

Taqueria Sheko’s Brownsville – Menu with Prices – 985 W Ruben M Torres Sr Blvd, Brownsville

We heard great things about this taqueria. I ordered 4 tacos tradicionales, one torta estilo Matamoros, and 2 enchiladas potosinas. The tacos were .45 cents today and very small (traditional size they are in Mexico). An average eater would need to eat between 6-8 tacos. The enchiladas were the same small tortilla stuffed with queso and folded over topped with sauce. The torta was quite crispy stuffed with bistek cheese and avocado. The salsas on the table were amazing. My favorite is the tomato salsa. My recommendation is to order a little of everything that piques your interest since the price point is quite low. Happy Taco Bar – Menu with Prices – 430 E Interstate 30, Garland

Our best friends suggested this place but I don’t quite understand the good reviews. While the menu has a ton of potential, the execution was absolutely terrible. We ordered the sampler only to receive room temperature queso TWICE. The first time, I immediately took it back to the counter only for the cook to act frustrated for asking for it to be warmed up. He said “I can’t heat it up, I’ll have to make you a new one.” I apologized and assured him I was only asking bc it was legitimately room temp. By the time our replacement queso came out, we were done & it was STILL room temp. The chicken and waffle taco would have been great if it held any form of a taco. Both fajita tacos were average and corn tortillas crumbled. The brisket taco was okay. The margaritas were $8 and $9 and came to our table when we were nearly finished. Neither of us could taste much liquor but there was a ton of sugar. There was also no jolly rancher rim, which was advertised on the watermelon Rita. I assume is what they charged the extra $1 for. Our tab was $45 at Happy Taco. This was nearly as much as we paid at Gloria’s for fajitas for 2 and 2 speciality margaritas.

De Leon’s Taco & Bar #3 – Menu with Prices – 2718 E 57th Ave Suite 105, Spokane

I’m only giving 3 stars for the food because the service is terrible! If you can handle bad service but good food for sure go!!! First things first we’ve only had the tacos and the queso. So I cannot tell you the quality of much else. The shrimp tacos exceed expectations. The sauce and slaw it’s just so good. They are big so 2 is a good amount. The carne asada street tacos are so delicious I get the slaw on top but you have to ask! Very good tacos. I want them daily. But I do get them to go because the service really is THAT bad. The queso is not good. Just a heads up. Maybe if it’s not to go it’s good but it’s so greasy. Won’t get it again. So for my one visit eating there. My mom and friend were in town and we wanted a majito and tacos. So let’s try it out for dining in. First the bartender wasn’t even a bartender. He said he does everything. Our mojitos were terrible. The chips were stale and ice cold. I’m so unimpressed with the service. Literally the only reason I’m giving 3 stars is because the tacos are fantastic!!!

The Taco Stand – Menu with Prices – 240 W Chapman Ave, Orange

I had heard amazing things about The Taco Stand in San Diego so was so excited to see we were getting an OC location. It took me a while to try it, but I ended up coming for lunch on a Saturday. I found street parking easily and the spots nearby aren’t metered so I was able to find a 2 hour spot across the street. When you walk in the menu is on the wall above the register, and then you order at the counter and find a spot to eat and they call names as the orders are ready. I opted for the al pastor and camaron tacos with a side of rice and beans. I thought the tacos were good but there was a LOT of sauce on each of them. I should have asked for sauce on the side but I wanted to try the authentic taco as it was intended, but it felt almost drenched in the sauce. The meat/shrimp were both really flavorful, and the tortilla was tasty. The rice was undercooked so still on the crunchy side which was a little disappointing. The beans also lacked a little bit of flavor so I put a ton of salsa on them to flavor them up. Finding seating was a bit tricky since it was lunch so we had to wait around a little until people got up. It ended up being fine and I’m sure the flow is good throughout the day, but I imagine it might be tricky to find seating at peak lunch or dinner. Overall the ambiance was good and the service was good, but the food was a little lackluster. If you like heavier sauces I’m sure the tacos are good, but they flavors overall didn’t blow me away and the sides were a little disappointing. I would still checkout the Taco Stand if you’re in the area, but if you’re reading this you’re probably smarter than me and looked at pictures first so you know what you’re getting.

Casa Viva Mexican/Seafood – Menu with Prices – 18911 S Tamiami Trail #17, Fort Myers

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We came in and sat down and it was at least 10 minutes before we ever even saw an employee. She finally came over and handed us some worn out dirty menus. We ordered guacamole and chips to start. It was a bowl full of some kind of soupy avocado mixture and came with a small amount of chips. It had an odd flavor and was not good. We did not receive any chips and salsa like most Mexican restaurants offer. Two of us had the fish tacos which came with some fried shrimp on the side and French Fries. Not sure why tacos do not come with rice & beans. The “fish taco” was one small piece of fried fish, not even as long as the tortilla, with a little cabbage and a lot of sauce. Not good. The fried shrimp were really just some breading and a tail. The only reason I give them 2 stars is because the prices are low, our beer was cold and my husband had chicken enchiladas that he enjoyed. The service was not good and the place could use a deep cleaning.

Rocket Taco – Menu with Prices – 602 19th Ave E, Seattle

I gotta say, this is where I can find my favorite taco salad. Thank you, Rocket Taco! I came here for lunch and though I had tacos on my mind, I ended up getting the Rocket Taco Salad, which I’m so glad I did. It was one of the best taco salads I’ve had! Everything from the fresh lettuce to the flavorful carnitas was on point. The taco salad included a spring mix, beans, pico, crushed tortilla chips, queso, rocket sauce and your choice of protein, which mine, as mentioned above, was carnitas. The carnitas were very flavorful and not too salty, which was nice, since the rocket sauce and queso provided really nice dressing for the salad. The spring mix was fresh and crisp, and everything else like the beans and pico just completed the meal. It doesn’t sound like much, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I even had some customers come up to me and ask what menu item I ordered. Just don’t forget to add some hot sauce to your meal, as the salsas are house-made and come in every spice level, from mild to hot. (I loved the hot sauce!) Located in the 19th avenue neighborhood of Capitol Hill, which is one of my favorite spots, there’s tons of parking since it’s mostly residential. There are two sections to the restaurant, one being the bar area with plenty of tables and the other being set for a dining area that looks to the kitchen. I definitely will be back, especially to try one of their margaritas. A cocktail and a salad. Call me basic bitch.

Tacos Monterrey – Menu with Prices – 212 S Washington Square, Lansing

Well, it sucked. I was excited to try a new Mexican place but the experience left much to be desired. I ordered their taco combo and was told I could not mix and match tacos. Um, okay, very well three tinga de pollo please. With a medium drink my total was just under $14.00. At this point disappointment was creeping into my mind but I was hungry and crunched for time. The restaurant had exactly one other person in it so at least my food should arrive quickly. And it did! But then I was told to dress my tacos at the rather sad looking ‘salad bar’ I open my to-go box and balanced it one hand while awkwardly trying to open each taco to dress them. There was no surface to even set the box down while dressing them. Aside from the cilantro and pico the bar items were pedestrian and disappointing. The hot sauce was bland and the shredded cheddar cheese appeared to be commandeered from a Taco Bell. Things like cotija, queso fresco, an actual hot sauce, and a place to set my box down would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, the disappointment continued as the chicken was perhaps the greasiest yet bland shredded chicken I’ve ever tasted. Adding to the disappointment was the somewhat crunchy rice and refried beans that tasted can fresh. For $7 it would be an alright lunch but for $14 it was a joke. I’m giving two stars as the place seemed clean and the service was pleasant.

Chihuahua Charlies Cantina Menu with Prices 5835 Interstate 20 W, Arlington

Ok-so I’ve been there twice in one month now…and both times service, although GREAT, is just a little slow. The tables are dirty and it seems like they are understaffed…that being said, however…their food is YUMMY!! Let me just say that green salsa is DA BOMB! But NOT for the faint of heart!! It’s spicy, but the flavor ir amazing! The chips and thin and just the perfect amount of salt. The red salsa isn’t bad either, I just really prefer the green. First time I had the fajitas. Not bad! Not the best I e had, but definitely not the worst! They were moist and tender and flavored well. I can’t speak for the rice and beans personally, because I don’t eat rice and beans-but my friends that had them said they were delicious! My other friends had the poblano enchiladas, the chicken bowl, and the flautas. My friend raves about their Elote. I also don’t eat corn, but it looked delicious! The second time we went, I had their menudo. Definitely one of the best I’ve ever had. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the food, the history of the restaurant and was super attentive. My 4 yo son had their queso (that’s his staple at all Mexican Restaurants) and their cheese enchiladas with the beans (no rice)…he LICKED the plate, so two thumbs up from the 4 yo. My husband had the poblano enchiladas with beans and corn, also licked the plate! Needless to say we will definitely be back!!
