I am on personal quest to find the best taco in the DFW metropolitan area. I will be rating my opinion based on three criteria’s. 1. Is the taco as good a Sanora style taco. 2. Does it taste good without salsa. 3. Originality to be fair to TEX-MEX style. I will only order beef, pastar, or carnitas since these are the main tacos most people order. Beef Taco good flavor of a street taco but needed the help of the salsa 3 Pastar taco was good and was served of the kabob and was sliced off the kabob a little dry but still good 3

Tacos Selene Menu with Prices 15343 E 6th Ave, Aurora

Looking for legit tacos in Aurora/East Denver area? Look no further! Tacos Selene not only has legit street tacos but it’s set at a great price. I was tipped off about Tacos Selene by a friend who has been in search of street-style tacos. She’s from LA so when she raved about this place, I knew I needed to try them out. I was finally able to try them out one afternoon and was a bit hesitant when I pulled up. As some reviewers noted, don’t judge a book by its cover! This was clearly a locals favorite spot as there was a line to order and the dining area was crowded on a late Saturday afternoon. I was able to try out three different meats: lengua, barbacoa and al pastor. My favorite was the barbacoa–lots of flavor and super tender. I enjoyed the other two tacos but not as much as the barbacoa. They provide two corn tortillas with each taco which was a bit too much for me but does help to keep them sturdy and not soggy. The other star of Tacos Selene is the salsa bar–lots of salsa to choose from as well as pickled vegetables and garnishes. I can understand if some people read this and think affordable or cheap = bad quality but that is not the case here. This place is definitely worth the drive out to the East side if you’re looking for delicious and affordable street style tacos!

Tacosway Fusion & Street Tacos – Menu with Prices – 12800 Garden Grove Blvd unit b, Garden Grove

These are street tacos done right. I was looking for a place close to my work and I thought, what the hell. So I went and tried it, what a surprise. These tacos would kill anywhere in LA. The place is tucked in a tiny strip mall. And when I say tiny I mean if you blink or sneeze when you’re driving by you’ll miss it. As it is you might miss it anyway. Look hard cause these are some of the best tacos you’ll ever have. They make aguas frescas too, so they have the bona fides. The jalapeño salsa has just the right amount of kick and it’s packed with flavor. But you’re not coming here for salsa, you’re coming here for tacos. Carne asada, al pastor, carnitas, are all here and they’re delicious. The al pastor has nice heat. The carnitas are tender, and the asada has a few crunchy bits that give the meat that extra flavor. For the intrepid out there they have lengua, that’s tongue in case you’re interested, and they have a Korean BBQ taco that even Roy Choi would love. They have tortas (haven’t tried them) and fish tacos too. Prices are way reasonable like street tacos should be. Don’t worry if you forget your cash, they take ApplePay. Just don’t forget your iPhone. The decor is bland but the pictures on the walls make for a good laugh. This isn’t fine dining but worth the visit and the tacos.

Azuls Taco House – Menu with Prices – 1142 Edgewater St NW, Salem

Very underwhelming. I wouldnt call these authentic, only because I spend a great deal of time in Mexico (about every 6 weeks) and they arent even close. I could see how those who arent familer would call these “street tacos”. I Ordered the shrimp tacos. Tortilla is great and shrimp were cooked nice but wasnt very good. The shrimp is cooked in a style that I would put on a Po’boy, not in a taco. Cabbage “filler” needs some flavor, specifically a little cilantro and onions, maybe a sauce in with it. It had diced tomato that didnt add flavor and were mushy. Didn’t care for chipotle aioli sauce that came on shrimp. Ordered a side of chips and salsa and were served a tiny side of completly stale tostitos style chips and a cilantro tasting salsa that wasnt very good either. We thought it was a free sample till we realized that was the chip order. I would say slightly embarrassed that is what they are offering. I appreciate what they’re attempting but I have had better at various taco trucks around town.

Abelardo’s Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 1200 S Minnesota Ave, Sioux Falls

Went there Friday April 26th. When I arrived I asked the young gentleman what was good (I like to find out what the staff likes to help me decide). He said “Everything”. I ordered the two taco plate. A friend ordered the taco and enchilada plate with a shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada. When our food arrived it was interesting that the amount of beans and rice was different on each of our plates. They use a Styrofoam plate that has three sections. Since the rice was in one section, the beans in another, my friend definitely had more of each. I expected the taco to be one of three things: 1) a flour tortilla (ie softshell) 2) a hard yellow corn fried tortilla (hardshell) or 3) a white corn tortilla lightly grilled (street taco). What I received was a flour tortilla deep fried and dark brown (on the edge of burned). Same with my friend’s taco. When I picked up my taco, there was nearly an 1/8th of an inch of grease in the third section. As I held the taco, the grease literally dripped out! I thought about adding a enchilada to my order at first, but now I was glad I didn’t. Here is the take-away. My plate had less beans and rice than my friend. My ground beef tacos were greasy and had nearly burned deep fried flour tortillas with very little seasoning. My friend’s shredded beef taco meat was tender, but without flavor and his shell was also nearly burned. His enchilada had little flavor also. The salsa bar was nice, as as the other reviewer mentioned, the salsa is a little spicy. They had sliced carrots and pickled jalapeno peppers, as well as radishes and fresh lime. The menu looks like Giliberto’s, the salsa bar looks like Giliberto’s but the portion size and flavors are not there. We felt like they were trying to imitate a good thing, but fell short. We cleaned our plates there and went to Taco Johns. I had a super burrito and small Ole’s. He had a hardshell taco and small Ole’s. Kinda sad when you have to order a meal after you have just finished one….

El Taco express #1 10th St – Menu with Prices – 4912 NW 10th St, Oklahoma City

You have to be pretty bold to park your taco truck just down the street from the iconic and outstanding Taqueria Sanchez. I’ve driven past several times, but decided today that it was time to stop by. I’m so glad I did. El Taco Express offers the standard taqueria truck fare: street tacos, burritos, tortas, etc. Most tacos are $0.99, with lengua and tripa tacking on another $0.50. They have some soft drinks, water and several varieties of Jarritos. I didn’t see any mention of horchata or aqua frescos. Per my typical first visit, I ordered carnitas, barbacoa and lengua tacos. All of the meats were tender and juicy. The carnitas had a good flavor, as did the barbacoa. I added a little green sauce to the pork, and red sauce to the beef tacos. Both were better than most, and within reach of the best. And while I’m thinking of it, the pickled carrot was nicely flavored. I don’t know what you do to make one pickled carrot better than others, but they need to keep doing what they’re doing. What really stood out was the lengua. It was perfect, and as much as I love the lengua at Taqueria Sanchez and Taqueria El Dolar, this edges them both. The texture and taste is amazing, and is well worth the extra change. So please give this place a try. I can’t imagine you would leave disappointed.

EL Bracero Mexican Restaurant Menu with Prices 2028 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo

I researched tons of Mexican restaurants in Amarillo. I ended up picking this one, I was a little nervous since there was only 1 review but we thought it was good! We came around 5pm on a Saturday and there was only 1 other table of guests. (Good there wasn’t a wait… wondered if it was a bad sign?) Our server was nice and especially helpful since we don’t speak Spanish… we needed assistance with some of the menu items. I appreciated the chips and salsa. I know *most* Mexican places provide these BUT I have been to some recently which did not even offer them (weird, I know). Salsa was ok. It wasn’t my favorite that I’ve had but it was ok. Food came out quick. My husband and kids got the carne asada tacos and I got the carnitas tacos. I have to say, the Carne Asada tacos were AMAZING. The flavor was awesome and the meat was melt in your mouth tender! Muy bueno! My carnitas tacos were very good as well but I think the steak tacos were better! My husband and I got a different kind of beans with ours… they weren’t the usual retried beans. I forget what they were called. (Beans with bacon, peppers, onions and tomatoes in a broth). My husband didn’t care for them. I thought they were ok. The main loss of a star was that the building was a little “eh”… especially the restrooms. Sloppy paint job OVER tile, dirty floors and an outlet right next to the sinks that isn’t a GFCI. (Seems dangerous and I’m pretty sure in houses, all outlets near water need to be up to code with GFCI outlets.) My husband said the men’s room did not have any doors on the stalls. Ick. Additionally, it was odd that out in the main eating area, electrical ran outside of the walls. Kind of ghetto. To the right of the cash register there was a darkened room that had what appeared to be an unused bar and more tablets. I just get nervous as to what the kitchen looks like as the restrooms were a little gross. Regardless, the food was pretty good. We’d still recommend this place, especially the Carne Asada taco!

Gonzos Tacos – Menu with Prices – 825 N Harbor Blvd, Fullerton

Clearly, tacos are the focus of this restaurant. It’s one of only two words comprising this place’s name. Of course just having the word “taco” in your name, and focusing on tacos doesn’t mean the tacos are good. The tacos at Gonzo’s are unremarkable. There aren’t bad, but it’s not a “destination” taco place. I’d eat here again if I was nearby, and hungry, and wanted tacos, and I wasn’t going to some other place, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here. I ordered both Asada and Carnitas. Both were fresh, but the Asada was utterly boring. It seemed like the meat was boiled, but I doubt it was. The Carnitas was a little fattier than I like, but not nearly as bad as most restaurants featuring Carnitas. The tacos con todo (“with everything”) consisted of two corn tortillas (small, street-taco sized), meat, onions, & cilantro. There was a small salsa bar with four salsas and some lime wedges. The tacos were filling enough, but a better bargain can be had elsewhere. I would have thought for the price they’d add *something* else, cabbage or cheese maybe? Nope. The place is real small, but the bathroom was clean. The parking is awful. You can park right in front if there’s room and you want to brave the ever present traffic on Harbor Bl. Alternately, half a block away there’s a strip mall, but that seems pretty busy too. The walls are adorned with pictures of “low rider” bicycles. Really? AS IF, some Vato on a Schwinn carries street-cred. It seemed pathetically sophomoric. I remember guys on those bikes from my childhood in East L.A., and having that as some kind celebratory theme for a restaurant seemed lame to me. Strangely, the staff acted very coldly with me. I guess maybe I’m not Hispanic enough, being only 25%, and everybody there except for me had brown eyes and seemed to be treated very nicely. Perhaps I confused them because I came in, looked at the menu to see how much stuff cost, realized I didn’t have enough in my pocket, went back to my car to get more $$$, and then came back. Maybe this activity confused or insulted them. I don’t know, but other customers were given cups for their salsa without asking and I had to ask and they only gave them to me begrudgingly and looked at me funny while handing me two tiny plastic cups. I don’t know why they behaved thus. It was weird. Basically this place is okay, but they should lower their prices or add more stuff to their tacos, and they should ditch the bicycle pictures and picture something more fitting, like a taco, or a pig being slaughtered, something relevant.

The Taco Man & Catering – Menu with Prices – 2502 S Euclid Ave, Ontario

This is an update to my latest visit to The Taco Man. I was contacted by their sales & marketing director, Yesenia about my last review and they wanted to make it right. I decided to stop by for lunch and they were a little busy. The line moved quickly, and the employees were very courteous. The food was good as always. My favorite is their signature al pastor tacos with the mango salsa. The Taco Man is one of my favorite taco spots in SoCal. I appreciate The Taco Man reaching out. Thank you. I have included my first review of this place because it was a ROTD. Do you like good and inexpensive food? Are unicorns real? Have you ever heard of bacon infused cinnamon rolls? Do any of those questions make sense? Not really. Except for the first one. Tacos, tacos, tacos everywhere is what’s it’s like here in SoCal. I can’t drive anywhere without seeing a taco shop. I think about tacos all the time, I dream tacos, when I work out I look for pictures of tacos. Simple food group, tortilla, meat, onions, cilantro, salsa = TACO! The taco man offers a simple menu of your traditional tacos. They also have a few that are different. If you like chorizo then this is your spot. The only bad thing is they offer carnitas on Tuesday only, should lose a star for that but I guess that’s the secret behind the marketing. To get fools like me to return because who doesn’t eat carnitas tacos (no offense my Veg peeps, I still got mad love for you, you’re not meant to read that last statement). Order at counter and the magic will happen. The umpa lumpas and Santa’s elves will sprinkle some fairy dust on those delicious tacos for you to enjoy. If you’re feeling adventurous try ordering the Big Donk burrito. 2 pounds of OMG. It’s delicious. I was able to finish in about 20 minutes but felt miserable for next few hours and didn’t eat for the next 24. I was kidding about the umpa lumpas and Santa’s elves. They do special stuff there. Simple and inexpensive meal for everyone to enjoy. I wish they had a pay it forward taco wall so I could get tacos for all my Yelp peeps to enjoy and maybe they return the favor. Haha! Wishful thinking. Check out it’s Raining Tacos, the world would be a much better place. youtu.be/npjF032TDDQ

Good Hombres – Menu with Prices – 374 Bathurst St, Toronto

If you live in Toronto, don’t take the food scene for granted. We have the largest variety of multicultural food in this city, and Good Hombres is another great example of that. Good Hombres is a relatively new taco joint on Bathurst Street, between Dundas and College, pretty close to Toronto Western Hospital. Between Seven Lives, Hacienda Las Americas, and Good Hombres, there are a crazy amount of good tacos within a 10-minute walk. I would honestly reccomend doing a bit of a food tour one afternoon and go to all three. Good Hombres is amazing, I was shocked to find another 5-star taco place after only recently discovering Hacienda Los Americas. Good Hombres understands that the filling of a taco is the easy part of making the perfect taco. The hardest part is getting the tortilla right. That’s why more than half the restaurant is a conveyor belt that makes tortillas. You can buy them to go if you want to do a to-go taco night, but nothing beats having a fresh warm one in store. The menu is great, about 10 items – all tacos are $3.75 and the quesadilla is $6.00. When we were there, they quesadillas were sold out, so I’ll hopefully get one next time! I got three tacos, the fried fish, the campechano, and the carnitas. All of the tacos wet amazing. I even purchased an extra carnitas after. Every taco was a 5/5, and best of all, the tortilla didn’t break. That doesn’t sound like much, but for me, having a fresh structurally sound tortilla is part of any great taco experience, and Good Hombres does not disappoint. Overall, the tacos were some of the best ivele had. I prefer these to Seven Lives, but Seven Lives is more of a California-style taco, so it’s hard to compare. Between Good Hombres and Hacienda Los Americas, it’s pretty much a tie. The two restaurants hav very different menus and Hacienda does the best non-taco Mexican food in the city, and Good Hombres absolutely nails tacos. Let’s call it a tie! Pro tip – get a Mexican Coke! 5/5

Taqueria El Poblano – Menu with Prices – 652 Broadway, Chula Vista

Yahoo! Sí, the street tacos here are very good! Muy Bueno y Ricos. For the time being, this Taqueria Food Truck is only opened during evening hours. 6 pm till 2 am daily respectfully. I arrived opening on a Friday evening and ordered two al pastor & two beef birria double wrapped street tacos at $2.20 a piece. The beef birria tacos were great, but one has to be careful because the salsa they put on the meat packed some heat. The beef birria was very tasty and even had a very nice aromatic appeal. I loved that it was juicy and tender, and they double wrapped the tacos. The al pastor tacos were delicious. The pork meat was well marinated and they cooked it very well. I liked that it was a mix of crispy pieces and tender pieces of pork. This taco came with chopped cilantro, white onions, and creamy guacamole that’s traditional with these particular street tacos in Mexico. Great stuff indeed. There’s no seafood at this truck, just carne asada, chicken, beef birria, and pork, not that there’s anything wrong with that. There’s a tent with table available. They have salsa available at the tables, and radishes, limes, and cucumbers at the truck. Service was friendly and Claudia was super helpful. I like that they bring the food to you at the tables.

LOKOS TAKOS TAQUERIA – Menu with Prices – 2826 E Commercial Blvd, Fort Lauderdale

Not at all what I expected based upon the name Lokos Tacos”. I was expecting more like a Fuzzy’s Taco kind of experience but it was not like that at all. This place is full on, full service, sit down and order from a menu. My first decision was salsa. It’s not complementary as I typically expect from any Mexican restaurant. You can choose between their normal salsa or a trio of salsas. One of the dips is a spicy, honey based salsa that was very interesting. It was very sweet and had a spicy finish. It was good but not what I would choose to have before/during my main course. Seemed more fitting as something sweet to have after the meal. Even though this is a taco place apparently, for some reason I opted for the quesadilla with chicken which adds $4.00 and makes this a $16.00 quesadilla. I was underwhelmed to say the least. Very small portions left me still hungry after a trip to a taco place had just cost me over $30. & I drank water!!! I should have ordered tacos. I’ll give this place one more try and I’ll order tacos. Until then I’m holding to the 2 stars. Just wasn’t a very good value for me.

Bandido Taqueria Mexicana – Menu with Prices – 905 E Liberty St, Louisville

I keep forgetting to take pictures so close your eyes while you read this and use your imagination. I got the fish taco (fried), Maui Wowie (el pastor), and the carnitas tacos, plus an original elote. The tacos were good street tacos on small corn tortillas, they only have corn taco tortillas. Each taco had a slaw mixture that complimented the protein. The fish was a nice battered fillet that fit well in the tortilla. The el pastor taco could have used more meat and pineapple, the pork seemed a little under seasoned. I did really like the condiment bar. The serrano and habanero salsas had great flavor. You can actually taste the name sake pepper in each without them burning out your pallet. The pickled onions were superb, thin slices of habanero provided a nice secondary flavor with a kick. The best for last is the elote. Excellent ear of corn with large juicy kernels, coated in Mexican table cream, chili powder, cheese, and with a twist a red “enchilada” sauce. All on an easy to consume stick, it was my favorite. I love knowing I can grab some quick street tacos during my lunch break.
