So let’s get the obvious out of the way: this place is still standing for a reason; because they sell good custard. I like the simplicity of the menu, the staff was friendly and the vibe was very retro. It is a fantastic place to go in the evening on summer days like today as a nice little hangout spot. My only real gripes from this one experience was the fact that it’s cash only but they seem to do so much business (perhaps because they want to keep up the old-time feel) and the pineapple shake was slightly frost bitten. I have no idea why that was because i got the vanilla shake and the strawberry custard, both of which were phenomenally smooth. My sister and I think the reason the pineapple shake came out the way it did was because they use whole pineapple chunks in what i believe is just a standard vanilla shake and that might have caused some sort of reaction. But the bottom line is: great place to stop by, especially during the summer time to enjoy some frozen custard and history!

Zesty’s Frozen Custard – Menu with Prices – 3718 Riverside Dr, De Pere

There are still a few summers only businesses around. They bring nostalgia with them every summer. Fresh custard is a great draw on a nice summer day. A sign in the window said they make it fresh every three hours. I had the flavor of the day in a shake. It was Seroogys Peanut Butter Meltaway Swirl. It had a nice smooth, almost melt in your mouth, texture about it. Very tasty! Thanks to other customers to help, the building has a step right at the order window and pick up window. Something they should consider removing to allow people not to trip or, for others, a barrier to even get to the window. Others helped hand my cash to the window and then pass me the shake afterward. From here, they have a nice umbrella you could sit under or could walk down to the Fox River Trail or the boat dock and piers. Can’t believe this is my first time here. But, may return or try their other locations. Bring on the creative custard flavors!

Mocktails & Dreams – Menu with Prices – 30236 Mall Dr W, Jersey City

I was really excited when I saw this place pop up on Yelp, I’ve been talking about wanting a good bubble tea place in JC. There are a few, but none are spectacular. We’ve been here twice since it opened, and have tried a few things, with mixed results. First of all, we tried three “mocktails” thus far, overall, they were great, but I am not sure if they are worth the $7.50 price. Out of the three that we tried, i.e. Darling Clementine, Pineapple Express and Strawberry Affairs, I liked the strawberry one the best. I didn’t want the whip cream that came with the drink, so they gave me an extra scoop of ice cream instead. The drink itself was delicious, it tasted like a delicious strawberry milkshake. However, the straw they gave us was not adequate to use for the jelly and strawberry pulp. As such, we had to use a spoon at the end to scoop up the remnants. We’ve also tried the Obanyaki with Salted Caramel Ice Cream before they changed the menu to only include the standard ice cream flavors. It was pretty good, I really liked the ice cream filling. Lastly, we tried three standard obanyakis, including custard cream, matcha and lemon custard. The matcha one was not very good, as the match filling was too strong and bitter. The two custard versions were much better. Service was great, the staff were all knowledgeable and accommodating. The space is cute and a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the food court upstairs. However, I do feel the prices here are a tad too high for the food they offer.

Columbia’s Favourite Custard – Menu with Prices – 3304 W Broadway Business Park Ct, Columbia

I am comparing Randy’s with another small chain — Andy’s. Both are located in Columbia, MO. Randy’s Pros: A more smooth, creamy and fresh dairy tasting vanilla yogurt. More selections i.e. toppings. Randy’s Cons: Raspberry and peach toppings are more like jelly than whole fruit toppings (haven’t tried other fruit toppings). Randy is friendly, but his hired staff — not so much. It seems his young staff are not very cordial — not rude — but not cordial. We had no one behind us, and the young lady was all business with a “Next” attitude in spite of the fact that I was trying to solicit a little warmth from our particular window clerk. Next to the jelly consistency of Randy’s fruit topppings — my single cherry on my Sunday had a past it’s prime bite to it. You know sort of like pineapple that has turned. Andy’s seems to have a limited, but sufficient list of selections. Andy’s vanilla frozen custard has an okay flavor, but nothing to write home about. Andy’s staff is very, very friendly with a can do attitude. Because of Andy’s fruit toppings being less jelly like and a friendly staff — we will probably continue to choose them. However, we will check out Randy’s now and then to see if his frozen custard sundae fruit toppings become more like “fruit” toppings.

Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard – Menu with Prices – 12286 Warwick Blvd, Newport News

Stopped in here after work for a treat with a friend. I got a “gelati”,which is a cup of italian ice with a big squirt of frozen custard on top. This was delicious. The ice was flavorful, and the custard was smooth and creamy. The fatty custard provides a nice foil to the more watery, fruity ice. My only gripe is that it was kinda expensive for what it is. I think the small gelati was about five bucks. Also, there’s no indoor portion to the building. It was a hot day and we had trouble finding a seat in the shade.

Burger Brothers House – Menu with Prices – 4050 W 12th Ave, Hialeah

I think the burger I had was pretty good, but it was really disappointing that the burger didnâ??t come with fries. The tater tots were a tease just donâ??t put them on the plate. Burger and fries is a classic combo, so I donâ??t think itâ??s reasonable to charge for fries. The strawberry shake should not be made with an artificial syrup, it would be better if they used fresh or frozen strawberries. The shake didnâ??t even taste like strawberry. They should invest in advertisements or something to attract people, the only reason I found this place was because I was craving a burger and found them on google maps. The plaza is kind of plain, the restaurant kind of blends in with everything else.

Next Level Nutrition Studio Herbalife Protein and Energy Bar – Menu with Prices – 821NW, NW 13th St, Gainesville

I went to Next level nutrition after only going to Impulse nutrition and wasn’t impressed at all. I walked in and had 3 people stare at me for minutes before anyone spoke to me. The owner was a very niche gentleman. My fat burner was cold with powder chunks, and my shake was gritty & not smooth. I have asked for the nutritional breakdown of the whipped toppings, granola toppings, and chocolate/caramel sauce they use and have been unable to get that information. I do not think they include that in the calories. I would much rather drive the extra 8mins to Impulse Nutrition to get amazing customer service & delicious fat burner with smooth shakes!

Nancy Jo’s Homemade of Raleigh – Menu with Prices – 1201 Agriculture St, Raleigh

With so many taste options at the Raleigh Farmer’s Market its hard to stand out but Nancy Jo’s makes some seriously yummy cakes and cupcakes. I have tried the caramel cake & cupcakes, red velvet cupcakes, strawberry cake and pig picking cake & cupcakes. The “cakes” are usually a half of a cake – which is actually a decent serving option most of the time but there are usually a few whole cakes available. If you have something in particular you want in mind, I would suggest giving them a call. They are always happy to place something on hold for you and if you give them a heads up they can even make sure its available the day you want to come pick it up. It is a little pricey, sometimes almost $40 for a cake but man are they good! The cupcakes are HUGE too – there are 4 in a box but I can assure you one will fill you. The cake is soft and airy and very moist but by no means wet. I had never heard of a “pig picking cake” before but the description sounded good – orange cake with pineapple frosting. You might expect it to taste like a super sugary pina colada; however, it is rather magical. Again, the cake is light and moist but doesn’t taste especially like oranges (or at least I can’t taste it). The frosting is whipped and fresh with taste little flecks of pineapple. I have taken this cake and cupcakes to several parties – people gobble it up, moaning with each bite. I didn’t personally eat the red velvet cupcakes (I’m not a fan of cream cheese) but my sister ,who is a red velvet fanatic, told me they were excellent. The caramel and strawberry cakes were just what you expect – and I mean that in the best way possible. Wonderful vanilla cake with obviously homemade caramel frosting and strawberry cake with strawberry frosting. I’m more of a fan of caramel but I assure you I sampled the strawberry and wasn’t disappointed. The people are incredibly helpful too! I’ve called more than once with requests and last minute begging for them to put something aside while I race there to pick it up before they close. They are accommodating in every way. Next time you have a BBQ or dinner party and you don’t feel like baking – do yourself a serious favor and go pick up a cake. It will be better than anything you would have thrown together and everyone will be asking for the recipe.

Andy’s Frozen Custard – Menu with Prices – 2661 Trimble Rd, Columbia

Wow!! I loooove me some ice cream, so when I was in Columbia for a quick work trip, I sat at dinner and typed in “dessert” on Yelp. I saw Andy’s come up and was sold when I looked at the pics. I could tell right away this was an ice cream joint right up my alley. I love frozen custard and we don’t have as many local joints here in Ohio. As I was looking at Andy’s website, I quickly saw it was a chain (with none in Ohio!! Booo!). I knew I had to take this opportunity to check it out. It was so good, I actually ended up going there on back to back nights on my two nights in Columbia. The first time I opted for the Tiger Streak Concrete (for DQ fans, it’s basically a blizzard). It had all of my favorite things mixed into delicious creamy smooth vanilla custard! Caramel, hot fudge and oreo cookies! The hot fudge made the ice cream melt faster than normal, but they put it in an oversized cup (a Mizzou cup!) which made it easier to eat as it was melting. The second night I went super plain and got two scoops of vanilla and two scoops chocolate with nothing else. It was FANTASTIC! Probably some of the best “plain” ice cream I’ve had. It was so creamy and fresh (I believe on their website, they say they make the custard fresh daily). I loved it! Honestly, from here on out, whenever I travel for work, you can count on me looking up the area to see if there is an Andy’s nearby. Can’t wait until my next trip! In the meantime, if anyone is reading this who wants to open up a franchise in Ohio, please know that I’ll be a regular! Yum!

Lizzy’s Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 29 Church St, Cambridge

I’m going to be controversial and say that Lizzy’s is the best ice cream in Harvard Square. This review is going to focus on the strawberry, my go-to, but I’ve never been disappointed by Lizzy’s. There are real big strawberry chunks, it’s not too sweet, and it’s super creamy. It makes me a happy man. Strawberry may be one of the most basic flavors in the ice cream world, but Lizzy’s does its basics well. Pro-tip: You’ll get so much more bang for your buck if you buy a quart. You can effectively have 5 scoops in a quart for the price of 2 scoops. There’s also no tax on the quarts, which makes it even more cost effective. I know some people prefer JP Licks, but JP Licks is too vanilla (pardon the pun) for me. I’m taking a star off only because there aren’t freshly made waffle cones. There are cones but they seem to be pre-made and from somewhere else.

The Healthy Hub – Menu with Prices – 777 E Barstow Ave Ste A, Fresno

My sister and I went into The Healthy Hub this morning for the first time after we were leaving the gym. She had been referred by a coworker of hers to give it a try earlier that week. As soon as we entered the building the staff was friendly, upbeat, and extremely welcoming. The Hub has a modern aesthetic yet to my surprise it still had a comfortable and fun atmosphere. Now on an empty stomach I ordered a raspberry tea with cranberry aloe around 10:30am and didnâ??t feel hungry until 4pm later that day. My sister had the combo which consisted of a tea and shake. She text me about 20 minutes later and explained to me she had enough energy to run a few extra miles when she got home and credits the shake for that. As we left the staff welcomed us to return again and advised us that we could bring our own mug or mason jar if weâ??d like too. So thumbs up for their environmentally conscious approach. My next visit I will be dragging the Husband along to see what he thinks!

Dipped & Debris – Menu with Prices – 2422 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis

Tasty sammies and even better custard, this place is another reason why living in NE Minneapolis is a TREAT. Typically I go for food or dessert but not both – the sandwiches are generous so I usually cannot eat dessert as well – but that doesn’t mean you can’t! You can do it! Old fashion Chicago beef sandwiches are my go-to here, but there’s been a lot of times where their burger special looked especially tasty! My husband and I are in the process of tasting all their Jumbles (think high class Blizzards). So far my favorite has been the Terrapin, although I recently tried the Josephine and it was also delicious! Highly recommended for both the sammies and the custard, but especially the custard.
