Tough love time for workers here at Calita- you have outstanding places like Starbucks, Tazon, and other coffee and breakfast places in Fullerton. And here I would think this establishment would give a competitive edge compared to their neighbors. And yet they have fallen short of that promise. We got in sometime around 9:15 and ordered, and it was around 9:40 when we finally got our food and got going. That’s a substantial wait time for an avocado toast with eggs and a breakfast burrito with bacon. I know there is a caveat signage up front saying that orders could take more than 15 mins on busy lunch rushes. And as a food service worker, I understand that pain all too well. But there were 3 people in there. Plus my girlfriend and me, that’s 5. Everyone else had their food and we were the only ones getting our food prepared. Quality: no. My girlfriend didn’t even with the protein toast. What it looked like in the menu pictures is hardly what it’s looking like here. She didn’t want to eat it. My burrito was made with a thin bacon I could’ve gotten at the 99¢ store. The eggs and potato were okay. But, I could’ve gotten something like this at Jack in the Box, with a little more bacon in it and a little less hit on the pocketbook. And it would’ve been out faster. The drinks- I don’t know what happened. I ordered a cold brew and she ordered an amber cold brew- but when we got them they both looked the same. One had a slight cinnamon taste to it? At this point she wasn’t satisfied with anything from Calita. And even I was shaking my head in disbelief. I like to give my fellow food service workers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to these kinds of problems. There’s a lot going on behind the counter that folks in front of it don’t take into account. But my first impression of this place makes me want to go to the Starbucks or Tazon or Night Owl or Reborn or anywhere else. I just hope that management will see these issues, do what they need for prep work, supplies, whatever it takes to correct the problems before they become ingrained issues that eventually turn more customers away.

Punta Sur Cafe and Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 2725 S Beneva Rd, Sarasota

We decided to try this place out for breakfast as we saw it was new owners. We were the only ones in the restaurant. The breakfast menu didn’t have much for American breakfast, (chorizo, corn, & pork) in most dishes like the omelets. We were looking for just regular eggs, toast, bacon) the omelets contained chorizo, corn, or kale none of the ingredients I like. We were talking about leaving when the waitress (older lady) came over to let us know she had not put up the specials yet but that we could get regular bacon, eggs and toast. that’s what we ordered but instead of bacon we decided to order the lechon (pork) My daughter ordered a breakfast burrito. My daughters food arrived first with homemade tortilla chips that were delicious. My husband and I waited about another 5 minutes for our food to come out. My daughters burrito was not wrapped correctly and she had to reward it so the filling didn’t fall out, it wasn’t overly flavorful. My daughter thought it should have come with hash browns instead of the chips. Our breakfast looked great except the amount of pork on the plate was embarrassing. It looked like about a tablespoon of pork. The breakfast was cooked perfectly but it was an average breakfast you can get anywhere. It was 6.70 so the price was good. I can’t explain the toast though it was rye toast but stiff as a board. As we were eating the waitress put up the specials ( mushroom and cheese omelet ( I would have had that if I had know it was available) corned beef hash ( my husband and daughters favorite) the price is average and the decor and atmosphere are less than average. It felt like we were eating at the food court in the mall. I think there are better breakfast places like Millie’s or the IHOP.

Sal’s Pizza – Menu with Prices – 6773 Carnelian St, Rancho Cucamonga

Best pizza around the Rancho Cucamonga area I have found! Tried it for the first time, I ordered the XL 2 topping pizza for $23! Slices were huge, they were very generous with the toppings and it tasted delicious!! I normally just eat 1 or 2 “small” slices, like pizza hut sizes, but this pizza was so good I ate 4! And the slices were big I couldve been full with 1! I didnt get to take a photo, I was too hungry! They dont accept debit/credit so be warned of that and its not a sot down restaurant, they’re just a store front. But this is perfect to call ahead and pick up for an amazing dinner! Dont waste time with fast food pizza when you can have the real thing! I will be coming back!

The Rooster’s Call – Menu with Prices – 6050 Gull Rd, Kalamazoo

Normally I make my breakfast at home or have a cereal bar. But today some friends wanted us to go out for breakfast. They’ve drive this location many times and wanted to try. So I got to go with them and try it out. As you can tell by the pictures it’s really cute inside. You’re given menus quickly as well. Drink orders are taken first and then you have plenty of time to look at the menu. They serve both breakfast and lunch, so just in case you’re feeling a waffle, or burger. We got a bunch of stuff just to try everything out. Eggs, bacon, and potatoes! I had to be extra since I was really hungry. I got a chocolate banana French toast, egg and bacon on the side, and a club wrap with fries. The French toast was ok, it felt like the chocolate was more bitter like dark chocolate, but it looked milky. The banana saved it though and gave it an even sweetness. As for the club that I also had. I really felt like it was lacking something and I feel like that something was cheese. I’m not really sure if it had cheese on it or it doesn’t come with it. But it certainly needs a cheese to balance out all the meat. Still very good though, best wrap I’ve had in a while! I really wish I got sunny-side up eggs. I got scrambled eggs and no matter where, my scrambled eggs taste like they came from a box. Heartbreaking. But the bacon, is just so bacon, and I LOVE bacon!

Kookaburra Coffee – Menu with Prices – 9414 W Central Ave, Wichita

After my second time visiting, I decided this place deserved a little attention. The first time I showed up with my girlfriend for the Wicked Brew Tour, and they had an amazing cappuccino! My girlfriend tried one of their house made sodas, which was probably the only soda I have ever had that I genuinely enjoyed. Owner was present and we got to chat with him for a bit, and he is a very nice man! We also shared their pecan coffee cake, and dear God. If pecan pie and coffee cake could reproduce, this is what it tasted like. Absolutely wonderful! I’m currently sitting here with my second experience. I ordered a regular coffee and a burrito. Usually I’m a bit adversed to breakfast burritos, which usually have soggy tortillas or mismatched hunks of whatever is inside. The sausage was delightfully scattered throughout the eggs, and they TOAST THE TORTILLA in a press so it’s nice and crunchy. Sure it’s simple and to the point, but for $3.50 I’m full and very happy. I also got to see the owner once again at his stall at Taco Fest, and it was great to see the shop getting involved in local activities. I used to visit Leslie’s for my Saturday coffee, but I think Kookaburra might be my new favorite coffee spot from now on.

Apple Tree Cafe and Bakery – Menu with Prices – 3501 50th St # 238, Lubbock

Stopped by Apple Tree & Bakery in Lubbock Tx today. Big mistake. Ordered French toast, scrambled eggs, & bacon. Eggs & bacon were. good. French toast wasn?t cooked enough. Asked them to cook it more. Brought back out. Only thing different was it had more cinnamon.. It hadn?t been cooked more. The waitress was so sweet. I left restaurant my daughter was still inside. The guy in the restaurant came out and yelled at my daughter about the toast. He really was a jerk the way he acted. The waitress was so embarrassed by his actions. To make matters worse there was 5 people in the restaurant that heard and saw everything. I won?t be going back to Apple Tree restaurant & Bakery.

Delicious Deli #4 – Menu with Prices – 400 E Las Colinas Blvd #130, Irving

Small deli inside the office building. We got the breakfast specials of two eggs potatoes toast and bacon. Turkey bacon was a nice alternative option at no additional cost. $5.50 so also reasonable for the area. Eggs were done perfectly – scrambled and over medium. Toast was a nice grain type of toast. Potatoes were the downfall. Slightly greasy tater tots and DH ate mine. Overall I’d have given four stars based on area availability of early breakfast options but in a perfect world it’s a solid average breakfast slightly marred by the potatoes.

Hometown Country Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 894 S Boulder Hwy, Henderson

Really quick, my roommate and I have eaten there twice for breakfast. Both times both meals were great and the prices are right. I ordered a big breakfast meal. The one I ordered was 3 eggs over medium, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes. Everything was perfect, eggs cooked the way I requested, that’s hard to find sometimes, potatoes and bacon were great, and the pancakes hung off the plater, I wasn’t able to finish them . The 2nd time, I ordered the same meal, but with a few changes. Eggs, potatoes, toast the same and perfect. Then I ordered ham, instead of bacon, and French toast instead of pancakes. Nothing was wrong the first time, I just wanted to try the other items. I’m glad I did because the French toast was one of the better I’ve had, and the ham was out of this world. Great tasting and a large piece. I don’t think I mentioned prior, but this dish is $10. Not bad at all for all that food. I’ve lived in this area for a year now, this place just reopened about 2 months ago. Every time we’ve driven by the place it’s always busy, plus, it’s not fast food, it’s real food, so we had to try it. Apparently it was open prior to this, I believe the same restaurant, just an upgrade. I have no idea how it was prior, but it’s not huge inside, and both times we were able to get a table, but within 10 minutes of being sat, there was a waiting list. They have a nice little waiting area as you walk in, but that might fill up quickly on the weekends, just keep that in mind, that’s why we eat early most of the time.

Michele’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1373 Clinton St, Buffalo

Great little diner, clean, homey retro vibe, reasonablely priced, servers were on point, Michele the owner was on the grill cooking & directing! We ordered breakfast, portions were hearty – french toast, bacon, eggs, grits, breakfast sandwich, real homefries, coffee – all served hot and fresh with a smile. They even have chicken & waffles (next time). They have a small “bake shop” that rumor has it is a lil slice of heaven, wasn’t available this am but one of the items is grilled pound cake! Lunch specials include Meatloaf sandwich, subs, Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich, soups – can’t wait to get back and try some lunch eats! My only criticism was the maple syrup, for some reason it was ice cold & chilled the french toast, I even tried pouring it on the plate first to get to room temp but I’d already covered most of the french toast with the cold syrup – kind of disappointing as it actually made the french toast cold, french toast had good flavor though, I’ll just check the syrup bottle next time, ask to have it microwaved or something .. lol. We will be going back!

Moultrie Creek Diner – Menu with Prices – 4010 US-1, St. Augustine

If you are looking for some good old fashioned diner food, this place has got you covered. With great food, great service, and great prices, you’ll be back again and again. It may seem basic, but I am a girl who loves eggs, bacon, toast and potatoes for breakfast. As simple as this order is, many people get it wrong. Eggs cooked wrong, bacon not crispy or too crispy, potatoes soggy or underdone. Toast stale or covered in fake butter. That is why I was pleased when the entire meal was perfect. Their potatoes are the best part–super crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My mom loves to get the eggs Benedict with the biscuits. So good! They also have mimosas if you’re feeling like really having a good brunch! Our waitress was super attentive and nice! I hope to see her again soon! This place is just all around great. I’ll be coming here more often!

First Watch – Waterford Lakes – Menu with Prices – 1448 N Alafaya Trail Suite 150, Orlando

First time at a First Watch, but this place is definitely my new favorite breakfast spot. Such a chill and casual vibe, but the menu items are so creative. Whoever is coming up with these dishes obviously knows food. As soon as I sat down and saw the menu, I knew I was gonna go a little overboard trying stuff. I immediately asked if we could move to a bigger table and our waitress Erica was more than accommodating. She was really great all throughout breakfast. First thing I got was the Bacado omelet. Bacon, avocado and Monterey Jack cheese. Really tasty. Could have used a bit more cheese if I had to knit pick, but the brioche toast that came with it was so good it made up for it. Next, I got the farm stand breakfast tacos. 3 tortillas, stuffed with scrambled eggs, Cajun chicken, chorizo, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, topped with avocado and pico de gallo. Pretty awesome as well. Hard to ever go back to a measly Dunkin Donuts breakfast taco after that. The beans that came with it were super tasty as well. My girlfriend ordered the Florida French Toast and loved it. Said it wasn’t as good as the stuffed French Toast we had from Keke’s a couple of days ago, but still pretty amazing. The million dollar bacon was phenomenal. The brown sugar and maple glaze on them added a perfect amount of sweetness to the saltiness of the bacon. It had a nice little kick to it as well from the cayenne. As soon as my girlfriend and I tried it, our eyes lit up with happiness. The avocado toast is an absolute must-try. I will never get tired of avocado. Essentially it’s just avocado on toast with some sunny side up eggs on the side, but the toast itself is so good, and they are very generous with the avocado. It’s so freaking tasty! The star of my breakfast had to be the cornbread carnitas bowl. This dish is definitely what took my review to 5 stars. One of the best dishes I’ve ever had… period. It’s something I’d think I could only find at an authentic Mexican restaurant. The carnitas were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Super juicy, and plenty of it. The beans were a perfect addition. The poached eggs added a really nice richness to the meat. The avocado, tomatoes and sour cream pulled the whole dish together. It was essentially a high quality taco bowl, but it was extraordinary. Oh, and it comes with two of the most buttery delicious pieces of cornbread you will ever have. Feels very homemade. Can’t recommend this dish enough. I must admit, I felt a little ridiculous ordering so much food, but I assure you nothing was wasted. I downed everything. It was all so good. I could tell our waitress Erica was pretty amused at how much food I was ordering. As soon as I got my first taste, my shame went away. Everything was beyond what I expected. Very happy with my experience here.

Honey at Alma Mater – Menu with Prices – 1322 Fawcett Ave, Tacoma

We came here at 10:45 on a Sunday and parked on the street. This place is in a bit of a sketchy area. They serve brunch until 2. There was a line that moved quickly.  Got the Dutch baby. Sat outside next to a nice little rock garden. Friendly, efficient counter staff. They give you a number sign and they deliver your order to wherever you are sitting. It took awhile for the food to come, but they were slammed. My gf’s wet carne burrito took especially long. I was done with my Dutch baby by the time it came. The server did thank us for our patience when her burrito was finally delivered. All told, It took forty minutes for her to receive her burrito from the time we ordered it. The tables outside are low, so you need to hunch over to eat. Ended up with a sore back. The Dutch baby had a ton of berries, blackberries,  blueberries, and strawberries. The taste was decent, although, I wish the temperature of the Dutch baby was warmer and the texture crispier. While not as aesthetically pleasing (her Dutch babies not herself), my girlfriend makes much better tasting Dutch babies than this. I could tell that my girlfriend didn’t like her burrito when I asked her if she liked it and she said, “I’ll tell you in the car,” an8d “I want you to try this, so I know that it is not just me,” “How did you find this place?” and “It tasted like Popkin (our parakeet) made it.” When we finally got to the car she described the burrito’s shortcomings, which included being cold and tasteless. Her words included, “I’ve had better burritos at a gas station.” Naturally, she did not finish her burrito despite being very hungry. I am sorry that I cannot recommend this place.

Plexpod Westport Commons – Menu with Prices – 300 E 39th St, Kansas City

I’d been eager to go to the Sundry since the relocation, but just got around to it for brunch this morning. The experience was average in every way. First, the approach from southbound Gillham is pretty awful. There is a sign near the street indicating the Sundry is in the PodPlex building, but if you park around back by what I suppose is/will be a garden of some sort, there is ample parking but no signage leading you to the restaurant. We wandered and almost went into some kind of event space. We asked some other folks walking in and they sent us to Sundry. The breakfast/brunch menu has pretty standard stuff and is fine. We ordered a classic breakfast (bacon, eggs and toast) and the biscuits and gravy. The food came out quickly and looked appetizing enough. But everything tasted bland and unimaginative. We had to ask for jam, which is weird (if you order toast, they should ask), but maybe she just forgot along with forgetting to ask how we wanted the eggs (we told her before we left the counter). The bacon is nothing special, the sourdough seems to be from Farm to Market (delicious), and eggs are eggs. The biscuits and gravy (sausage) were tasteless; the biscuits were really dense. Adding salt and pepper didn’t help much. We both ordered coffee and it is unclear if refills are free (not a dealbreaker, but it would be nice to know). The decor is nice; very modern, attractive and simple. The place was pretty empty, which surprised me somewhat given the other reviews and how convenient Sundry is to midtown and beyond. We’re going to assume this was an “off” day and come back some other time. Once, anyway. There are loads of other reliable places for a great brunch.
