I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a hole in the wall unless it’s in your living room after your kids played baseball in the house…But I digress, this place is located inside of what appears to be a home so it’s right off the road near some houses. I needed a quick coffee and breakfast so I decided to pop by. 1) it’s easy to find, there’s a big sign out front so you can’t miss it. Parking can be hard but they have a gravel lot near the back. However, when I got there it was full so I just took to parking in the street. 2) they have tons of food options from pastries to sandwiches but I opted for the roasted red pepper and spinach quiche. I posted a low quality picture of it bc I got it to-go but I couldn’t wait that long to eat it. It was warm, smelled amazing and holy moly was it good! An amazing crust, toasted on the top, melted cheese and full of flavor I was honestly surprised at how good it was. 3) I’m very picky when it come to coffee and always get pour overs and this was the first pour over I’ve had in a while that I actually wished I went back to buy their beans. I got the Ethiopia roast on a pour over and it had a deep bodied flavor with chocolate undertones. Only thing that would make it better is drinking it out of a mug on my porch in the midst of a cool crisp morning. Anyway, if you’re looking for a quick coffee and breakfast or if you want a place to study, I would add this to your list.

Mothership Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – Green Valley Plaza, 2708 N Green Valley Pkwy, Henderson

Order: Ethiopia – Guji Pour Over & Bourbon Cardamum iced late Price: $8 Positives: Great flavor, helpful staff, outdoor COVERED seating area Negatives: I wish they could do the pour over iced tldr: Mothership is a great place for coffee with amazing beans and a selection of more unusual, but still delicious, lattes. However, the shop is fairly small so maybe Thoughts: Stop number four on the Vegas coffee, food, and dessert tour! Needing more coffee after our food and dessert, we decided to stop in to Mothership coffee. First off, I appreciate how Mothership does their theme of almost space-age coffee without overdoing it. There weren’t a whole bunch of tacky paper spaceships hanging all over the place. Instead they creatively named a few of their drinks, and their sign-up letter to be creatively science-fiction. It was tasteful and apparent, but not overdone The interior of the shop is actually fairly small but they did offer some outdoor seating that was covered. I love sitting outside but in the temperatures that Vegas brings it is so nice that they covered the seating area, it made a world of difference. We settled on somewhat of our standard fare when we go to new coffee shops, consisting of a pour over and a cappuccino or latte. In this case we got a pour over of their Ethiopian Guji and Bourbon Cardamom latte and both of them were fantastic. The pour over had a great depth and complexity, the beans weren’t over roasted, it didn’t taste burnt and it wasn’t so watery that the coffee had no real flavor. The latte was fantastic as well, it had definite notes of bourbon and cardamom in the drink without overpowering the espresso, since let’s be real that’s why I’m buying a latte. Nothing makes me crazier and than getting a latte or cappuccino and the flavor they add is all you taste. The staff was super helpful in pointing out options and talking through the ways they make the drinks. Another highlight is that many of their syrups are housemade. This really makes a big difference when flavoring drinks because most commercially produced syrups are very sweet and don’t taste like what they are called. The only thing I wish was different, and I soon discovered this was a trend in Vegas, is that they don’t do their pour-overs iced. They seemed willing to do it but they would make a standard pour over and then just dump the hot coffee over ice and end up just watering it down. It was a very odd experience because almost every coffee shop I have visited before does iced pour overs. Instead of your standard 350ml to 20g of coffee you do 150ml of ice and then 200ml of water to 20g of coffee and you brew the pour-over over the ice then dump the cooled coffee over a cup of ice. It’s how I make iced pour overs at home so again very weird that they didn’t do it here. But at least they were honest and told me they didn’t do it rather than just giving me just give me a watered down cup of coffee. All in all I would highly recommend mothership as a place to go get coffee. It may not be the best place to sit for hours and work, or chat with people because of the size of the shop but it’s 100% an amazing place to just go get a cup of coffee and maybe a more out-of-this world flavored cappuccino or latte. So far I’m sensing that Vegas has a pretty killer coffee culture!

Woods Coffee Menu with Prices 625 116th Ave NE, Bellevue

Tl;dr: Good coffee, wide variety of breakfast options. Woody theme and open interior. Drive through option. Oh and they make pour overs too. ***The long read*** How I got here? I was visiting Seattle for work last minute and I got put up in Hotel 116. They gave me free vouchers for free 16oz coffee and breakfast option. Ambience: First thing you notice once you enter the place is that it has a lot of natural light, high ceiling. So much wood that it lives up to it’s name. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Chair by the fireplace( a working one!) I love the rough shaped natural finish wooden bench by the door. It has a very natural park feel to it. Coffee: I usually go for black coffee. They have 2 blends Woods blend and Bear. They serve their hot drinks in black cup and custom logo embossed lids with quotes by the likes of Joh Muir et all. I asked them for a pour over and they obliged. Btw the pour over tasted really fresh as compared to the drip. Breakfast: Egg sausage and bread was quite decent. I’d rate it above Mc’Ds. Taste wise it reminded me of the ones served in Starbucks. I tried the Avocado toast too. Not really sure if the bread was toasted (check the picture) but the taste was ok. Avocado spread was a little too sour for my taste. Lots of parking in front as they share parking with Hotel 116. They also have a drive through option for those days when it’s raining too hard and you don’t want to get out of your car. This is a Californian view of Seattle rains so take it with a pinch of salt(or cream and sugar!)

Dark Moon Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 11041 S Eastern Ave #115, Henderson

Order: Pour Over Price: $6.50 Positives: One of the best pour overs I’ve ever had, the baristas are INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and happy to share the process with you Negatives: Still really wish I could get an iced pour over out here but it doesn’t detract from the amazingness that is Dark Moon tldr: Dark Moon is an incredible coffee shop and the best we visited in the larger Vegas area. Their beans are impeccably roasted, their staff is insanely knowledgeable and more than willing to help, they have a variety of very unique drinks, and their seating is fantastic for working. Short of not making iced pour overs I think Dark Moon is practically perfect. Thoughts: Still day 2 (though we came back on day 3 twice), and stop number 8 on our coffee, food, and desert tour. Dark Moon was our post lunch coffee stop and blew us away. We’d already been to several great coffee shops but Dark Moon took it to a whole new level. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, walking us through the process and tasting notes for several of the beans, explaining their favorites and why they were their favorites. Later, while we were sitting and getting some work done, we even overhead one of the barista’s walking a group of people through their entire process of brewing a pour over as he did it. I’ve never seen that done at a cafe before, and it didn’t seem like it was a chore for him at all. The staff of Dark Moon seem to genuinely love coffee and want all their customers to love it too (I’m on team love coffee if it isn’t obvious). While on this trip we only tried a pour over, during the course of our visits we had an espresso and tonic, two other pour overs, this insane smoked blueberry magical potion drink, and a cappuccino. The only one that wasn’t some the best coffee I’d ever had was the cappuccino, the espresso was a little dark for my tasted and didn’t have a depth of flavor that I’ve had in some other places. Everything is was ridiculously good, the pour overs all had their own unique, complex flavors, you knew that you were drinking a different cup of coffee each time. The espresso and tonic was a drink I had never tried before and is now one of my new favorites. It’s a crazy mix of tangy bitterness from the tonic and punch from the espresso. It’s honestly a bit hard to describe but it’s an amazing drink that I would highly recommend you try, unless you just don’t like tonic water. The blueberry drink thing was more alchemy that coffee I think. It involved smoking a glass, mint, blueberries, espresso (duh), and some other things I think? While it would never really replace my go to coffee it was an incredibly unique coffee experience. Honestly I think you can really only get this level of greatness at a coffee shop with an intense level of care and commitment to your craft, and Dark Moon drips care and commitment. You feel it when you walk in and talk to the staff, and you taste it in every sip of coffee. Dark Moon isn’t just the best cafe and roaster I visited in Vegas, it’s one of the best coffee shops I have every been to, and I’ve been to a lot. Anyone that can get to Dark Moon should, even if you don’t like coffee, if given the chance they might just change your mind. Dark Moon, you are truly masters of your craft and I applaud your commitment to excellence and care….at least I would if I wasn’t clutching a cup of your delicious coffee.

Press Coffee Bar Belmont – Menu with Prices – 732 Watervliet Ave, Dayton

Press Coffee Bar in Belmont is a second location for the very well established Press on Wayne Ave. Aesthetically the shop is gorgeous. One of the most aesthetically pleasing coffee shops I’ve seen in any city. The front is all large glass windows flooding the room with natural light. Once inside, visually there is a minimal black and white color palette with only one color throughout the store — neon orange on the microfiber cloths. The ceilings are very high and the seating is pretty communal. The space is welcoming and energizing. Service is friendly, knowledgable, and thoughtful. The attention to detail is on another level, and it reminds me of why Press is so enjoyable. Before I came and hung out for a bit, I never would have guessed that reviewing Press’s second location would start off without pour overs. At any other third wavy coffee shop, you might be surprised to look at the menu and not see pour overs… but at Press it made me curious. Instead of pour overs at this location, they offer a very very high quality batch brew. Coming from someone who always gets pour overs over batch brew (drip coffee) anywhere else because freshness is so important to me. Press has done some wizardry here to be able to offer an incredibly fresh batch brew. The batch is different in the mornings and the afternoons. The Ethiopia Hambela one afternoon of opening week was top notch. One cool idea: they’ve come up with an uncommon cup size — the small is 7 oz which turns out to be the perfect size for that late afternoon to early evening visit where you don’t want a big cup of coffee. The standard array of espresso drinks are offered as well. The gibraltar glasses are really nice. There is no wifi at this location. They aspire to keep this focus and for you to have a conversation with your neighbor instead. (The downtown location will continue to have wifi.) As with the other Press location all of the coffee is self-roasted by Wood Burl.

White Rabbit Café – Menu with Prices – 248 Santa Fe Dr, Denver

Chase the White Rabbit… I highly recommend it. I was running late for a very important date and needed coffee to keep me from going mad. I had the pleasure of finding this hidden gem with great coffee. I grabbed a latte and a breakfast burrito and was on to my adventure. Next time John taught me about pour-overs, his specialty. It takes a little longer, but is so worth it. You can tell he has a passion for his craft. Skip the big box and support this small business!

St. Drogos Coffee Bar / St. Thomas Aquinas – Menu with Prices – 1520 Euclid Ave, Boulder

Kelsey was exceptional! I was greeted with a warm smile, she made me one of the most delicious pour overs I’ve had to date, and was kind enough to bring me Creme and honey so I could add it to my taste preference. Also the atmosphere is very welcoming with plenty of seating and sunlight streaming in from all angles (I’m a sun worshipper so to speak so I appreciate this!). All around a wonderful spot, I’ll be back!

Spunky Monkey Coffee Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 7900 SW Barbur Blvd, Portland

OMG! This cute little place has the most amazing food and coffee. I don’t want to give anything away, but try the bagel with house made sausage, you will not be disappointed! Hearty sandwiches kept us full for hours. My 11yo son devoured the BLT bagel and my daughter ate almost all of hers (she was incredibly full). The owner is such a nice guy, chatted with us the whole time he made our meals and coffee, but obviously has it down pat and can multi task like that (who knows what I would have served up in the same situation). I highly recommend this place for coffee, breakfast, lunch, even a quick dinner to go. Wish we had one of these in San Diego.

Lineage Coffee Roasting – Menu with Prices – 3201 Corrine Dr, Orlando

Lineage is a staple at East End Market. For me it’s the best coffee in town. The first pour-over coffee I ever had was at Lineage and I don’t think I ever really knew that coffee could be better than what I had grown accustomed to until I had a pour-over here. It’s not close to me whatsoever but I will drive 20 min out of my way on occasion just to get coffee here. As far as quality, I’ve never been disappointed. The people that work here are always on point and friendly and I can honestly say that I’ve never been disappointed. Now, the line can get long and some cups can take longer than others especially the pour-over but consequently, the quality is never in question nor is the effort to provide a qaulity cup of coffee. I highly recommend Lineage to any coffee connoisseurs, you won’t be disappointed.

Magic Beans Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 501 W 6th St, Lexington

I have Magic Beans shipped to me regularly in Alexandria, VA. I used to get beans from a couple of places in my area that also sell fresh-roasted, single-origin beans – and which I thought were pretty great – until I tried Magic Beans. Now I don’t want to drink any other coffee ever. Magic Beans isn’t just better than cheap diner coffee and corporate mega-chain coffee. Its better than anything you’ve ever had anywhere. Its worth mail-ordering, and actually even with shipping its cheaper than some places I’ve bought from in person. I promise you, no matter how great you think your current favorite coffee place is, until you’ve had Magic Beans, you don’t even really know what coffee is supposed to taste like. And yes, I’m also talking to those of you who already buy fancy, single-origin, coffee from hipster places that only do pour-overs, etc. Dump out the coffee you’re drinking right now and go order some Magic Beans.

Fulton Street Coffee – Menu with Prices – 2015 Tuolumne St, Fresno

Just to put it simply, I drive 30+ minutes from Visalia to Fresno just for Fulton Street and drive straight back. They use V60’s for pour overs, being able to bring out more of the brightness in the coffee and their lattes don’t disappoint, their mochas are amazing and for those of you guys normally gravitating towards sweeter drinks I’d recommend having the cafe con leche. The cafe con leche is just like a regular latte but has a cinnamon infused simple syrup. Their espresso is delicious and have never had a shot not dialed in correctly from them. This wouldn’t be one of the best places to sit down and do homework, but it’s perfect to sit down and enjoy your cup of coffee with or without a friend. Their customer service is adequate, I have not had a bad experience nor a particularly out of this world experience with their customer service. They can take a little bit of a longer time to get your drink out, but just know the wait is well worth it!

Black Crow Coffee Shop – Menu with Prices – 722 2nd St N, St. Petersburg

MY FAVORITE SPOT to stop in whenever I’m in St Pete. It’s such a cute, funky little place and the coffee is AMAZING. I’ve tried many different beverages here including iced latte, hot latte, and cold brew and everything has been delicious. The little donuts they have are delicious! I’ve purchased the whole beans and taken them home to San Diego with me and the quality is amazing when I make my pour overs at home. I also love the environmental consciousness of this place, they strive to have a minimal footprint with things like pasta straws, and using real silverware and plates instead of disposable. They have a trash sorting area were you put your compostable ,recycle, and trash and they have very nice pictorial instructions. Totally love this spot.

The Cheese Shop of Portland – Menu with Prices – 107 Washington Ave Unit 1, Portland

Oh my goodness!!! What a gem this shop is! My husband and I visited Portland to experience the ultimate foodie trip. Boy this place did not disappoint us for a second! We went to all the best places, Holy Donut, Tandem Coffee and Bakery, Central Provisions, Eventide, Bite of Maine, Miyake Sushi… the list goes on! Everyone in Maine was just so nice!!!- conscious of supporting local, being kind to the environment and just being nice to people in general! On our last day of the trip, we wanted to bring just a bit more of this warmth back to our home. Could we grab a handful of candies and lobster t-shirts? Yes, it was considered. We couldn’t check in liquids due to to restrictions on our flight- so no jams or honey… BUT CHEESE!!!! We wanted local, and went on a whim seeing this place on Yelp. Do not be deterred by the little nook it is in. This tiny shop had an array of the most delicious local cheeses and cured meats. Also an extensive selection from abroad. The Tide Line Cow was recommended to us. Holy Moly! So creamy!!! We also purchased some City of Ships and slices of amazing Copa. Nutty and sweet! The best souvenirs we could ask for!!!! (Our flight was just a few hours, so it made it perfectly. The hard cheeses can last out longer). My only regret is that we did not pick up the delicious looking Baguette Sandwiches that were made using bread from the local bakery. My husband and I were amazed by the hospitality we received in this shop. Thank you so much for extending this Maine Magic back to our home!
