Been to this cart before, and have had great experiences. But on a recent First Fridays, had the saddest cheesesteak ever. I’m from north of Philly and know my way around one; this one was in desperate need of meat (see photos, undoctored!). I know they’ve had some troubles lately and have a baby on the way, but $10 for a small sandwich with a sorry amount of meat is not the way to keep customers. There are now other cheesesteak carts in Bend, one in particular offers a huge cheesesteak with plenty of meat for $11.

Eddis & Sons Handcrafted Cheesesteaks & Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 1435 Naldo Ave, Jacksonville

Don’t let the stars fool you – the cheesesteak is fresh, HUGE, and delicious! This food truck regularly makes stops at my place of work, and after some goading from my boss, it was time to give it a try. The menu gives a ton of options (including veg) for your cheesesteak/grilled sandwich, and the final results are absolutely delicious. We opted for the cheesesteak with peppers, onions, and mushrooms, all covered in white American cheese (although there was the option for cheese wiz or provolone as well). Be prepared to wait a long time for your order. It seems that each order is cooked individually (despite the fact that we ordered the same thing…why not just double-up while cooking?). Despite being a food truck (and what I have grown accustomed to as fast food), we waited a solid 20 minutes post-order in a long line of other co-workers (some of whom left their peers to pick up their food, they had meetings to get to!) for our meals. My boss waited just as long as I, despite having only ordered a sandwich– no sides. When we finally got the food, my boss’s sandwich had a few bones in the meat, which was really off-putting. No such problems with my meal, but overall I don’t know if the tastiness of the sandwich was worth the hassle.

Kruk’s Philly Steaks – Menu with Prices – 5231 University Pkwy #105, Bradenton

Tasty I stopped in for lunch today, it wasn’t busy. I read through all the reviews ahead of time and was interested to see how much meat I would get on my sandwich, but my problems started earlier. When I walked in, I saw the sign explaining how to order, and having spent time in Philly I was already familiar with “wiz wit”, cheese wiz and with onions. We were off to a very Philly start. At the counter I ordered a large Cheesesteak Wiz Wit combo. My order taker asked if I wanted onions. I was confused, didn’t I just say that? Then I was asked if I wanted peppers, I said no. In hindsight I now realize I was being asked about sweet peppers, not hot peppers, and I should have said yes. I was not asked about mushrooms, don’t sweet peppers and mushrooms automatically come on a Philly Cheesesteak? Apparently not. It didn’t take long to get my food and the sandwich and fries were nice and hot. While not a generous amount, I thought the amount of meat was fine for the size of the sandwich. I was disappointed by the size of my ‘large’ sandwich. I was also not impressed with the sandwich construction, the wiz was on the bottom, finely chopped meat in the middle, and onions placed on top. It didn’t take long for the cheese to start leaking out and the onions to fall off. Shouldn’t all this be mixed together? If the sweet peppers and mushrooms were going to just be placed on top, I’m kind of glad I didn’t get those ‘toppings’ for an upcharge. Tasted good. Aside from missing a few things I missed ordering, my bad, it was a good sandwich. They just opened a second location closer to me in south Sarasota and once they have had time to work out any startup kinks, I’ll stop in knowing more about how to order, the wiz wit sign I first saw did not explain about peppers and mushrooms.

Paradise Treats.Yummy Steaks – Menu with Prices – 113 Paradise Blvd, Melbourne

Paradise Treats – Melbourne Beachside – 3 Stars I am thoroughly ineluctable whenever I see a sign stating we have the “best __________ in” the County, the city, the state, the world, etc. I always find it amusing a habitué needs to self vouch. It’s like the guy who looks you in the eye and tells you “he is the most honest guy in the world.” You immediately touch your wallet to make sure it is still there. Anyway, Paradise Treats touts itself as the best Cheesesteak in the County. So I ordered the cheesesteak, but knowing what could very well be coming I also ordered the Italian Style hotdog. I forgot to mention this is a food truck that rents space at Paradise Beach Park. The Italian style hotdog is a giant all beef frankfurter on a soft roll. It is covered in sautéed green peppers, onions and chunks of seasoned flavorful potatoes. The combination is definitely worth stopping and trying. The only place to sit is a couple of benches with beach umbrellas so you may want to eat in your car or back home like I did. So, why three stars? Because the cheesesteak is poor. It is prepared with small chunks of diced meat that is so portionless you at first think you are getting a vegetarian sandwich. I decided to pluck a chunk of meat off the bun to sample it. It was seasoned, but just with salt and pepper. It really was just a steak sandwich, and not a good one. So in response to “best cheesesteak,” well not even close. Big boy says try the hotdogs avoid the cheesesteak.

Colonial Pizza – Menu with Prices – 400 S 43rd St, Philadelphia

If I could give Colonial zero stars I would right now! They just charged me $10 for a dollar corner store cheesesteak. I called to let them know that I was unhappy with my cheesesteak And I was told that the bread is now a little bigger but the meat is already accounted for. It’s supposed to be 8 ounces of meat so he says, but as you can see here that can’t be true! Not to mention even if it was 8 ounces, $10. If you’re going to charge people $10 for a cheesesteak and you say your bread is bigger now you would be better off charging a little extra and giving them the product that they’re used to. I have never had a cheesesteak so skimpy from Colonial. With bad customer service included! This is not my first terrible experience with Colonial lately. I ordered what used to be one of the best Strombolis in the neighborhood but when I received this one, it tasted like they opened a can of the cheapest nastiest most aluminum tasting tomato salt and put it directly in the Stromboli, no seasoning no nothing. I decided to give them another chance because Colonial used to be so good. It wasn’t a fluke, it’s just trash. I will never ever spend another dime a Colonial!!!!!

The Stackz Co – Menu with Prices – 9223 Archibald Ave H, Rancho Cucamonga

Came here for lunch with high hopes, but left totally disappointed. The restaurant itself is like a bar that serves sandwiches and salads. I ordered the Adult Grilled Cheese Sandwich and the Original Grilled Cheesesteak Sandwich To-Go. I was amused at how long it took them to make it. It literally took them 35mins to make the sandwiches! I had to tell the cashier that I was in a rush in order to have my sandwich to come out quicker. However on top of all that when I came back to the office to eat, the Grilled Cheese was a soggy mess. The bread itself was not crispy but oozing with grease. Both my co-workers and I could not finish it. The Grilled Cheesesteak was better. It wasn’t great but much better than the Grilled Cheese. I liked how it was stacked (given the name) with meat and toppings. As for management, the kitchen needs to work on their speed and efficiency. The food needs to be double and triple checked before being served. If I’m going to be spending close to $10 for a sandwich and have to wait 35mins for it, the food should be REALLY GOOD. If you have an hour for lunch before you have to get back to work, I would not recommend this place.

Erwin’s Philly Cheese Steak – Menu with Prices – 4030 Hoyt Ave, Everett

We went in to Erwin’s craving some delicious Garlic Fries and a big Cheesesteak. I had the A7 Mushroom and Pepper Cheesesteak and my boyfriend had the Bahama Cheesesteak. We both got some garlic fries. The owner was super nice when he took our order. My Cheesesteak was so good! The peppers and mushrooms were cooked perfectly. The peppers had just a hint of a crunch, which was a nice contrast to the steak and white cheese. The roll was also good and fresh. The garlic fries were super garlicky, however the fries themselves seemed a bit stale. I wish they had been a little more crisp. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal. My boyfriend said his sandwich was good. Very filling. His fries were also a bit stale. I still rate this 5 stars, just for the sandwiches and excellent customer service alone.

Zpizza Tap Room Menu with Prices 1082 SW Yates Dr #110, Bend

I’ll admit, this was a surprise. I hadn’t heard much about ZPizza but our friends said they liked it. So, we stopped in on our way home from the mountain and it’s AWESOME! I rarely eat pizza because I’m gluten free and many of the crusts just don’t inspire me. However, they offered 2 types of gf crust (one of them is vegan) and I chose the cauliflower parmesan cheese version. And, I don’t eat meat but always love a veggie pizza. What?? They have Beyond Meat vegan sausage? Oh my! Had to give it a try and I think I just had the best gluten free pizza in Bend. My hubs is a free-form eater and loves meat and loves gluten and also considers himself a pizza expert. He admitted that the pizza at ZPizza might be the best he’s had in Bend also! The staff was very friendly and very helpful (I had a bazillion questions about everything). They guided me through the gf veggie options and even made suggestions. Love this place! We’ll definitely be going back. Looking forward to hanging on their patio in the summer, too. It’s the perfect stop after a great day of play in Bend.

Big Ed’s Artisan Bread Menu with Prices 601 NE 1st St, Bend

Stopped into the Hop & Brew in Sisters for coffee with my son who is hiking the PCT. After taking him back to the trailhead, I came back to try the grilled tuna sandwich, which is a favorite of mine. When the server brought the sandwich, I let out a little groan because it was on a big roll and I was afraid it would be too much bread. I took one bite and OMG, best grilled tuna I’ve ever had (and I’m kinda old) and the roll was the best roll I’ve ever bitten into. So, this review is as much about Big Ed’s Bakery in Bend as it is about Hop & Brew. The crust and texture of this toasted roll was incredible. On top of that, the tuna salad was delicious as well. People were friendly. Place is clean. I live in Portland but I doubt if I’d drive through Sisters without stopping in for another sandwich…even if I had to wait a while for my food. And, in Bend, I will definitely go to Big Ed’s.

Austin Street Tacos Menu with Prices 536 NW Arizona Ave, Bend

I love food carts and given the opportunity, I’m always going to check them out. I’m a pretty adventurous eater and the food cart scene fills the gap in our town of great restaurants, but a little short on variety. The Podski is the latest food cart pod, six carts, plus a beer hut. The carts offered a pretty great variety of options. We tried two of the six carts, (one was closed) and thought the food was decent, some better than others. I was a little disappointed that there are only 6 beers on tap and there was only one local brewery represented. That said, it was a Worthy IRA, so thumbs up for that one. They also offer wine, beer in cans and I’m guessing Kombucha (although Kombucha is never on my radar). Seating is casual, shared picnic tables. There is some sort of sun shade over the area. I’m not a huge fan of this style of seating, I’m six feet tall and it’s a long drop to the bench. I did like the vibe, great combination of locals, out of towners, lots of kids and a couple of dogs – great by me. I was concerned that parking would be a problem, but not the case. They have a little lot and were found a spot right away on the street. While I’m a fan, I’m not going out of my way to stop by here again.

Barry’s Cheesesteaks – Menu with Prices – 1161 S 2nd St, Louisville

I’ve been wanting to try Barry’s Cheesesteaks and More for quite sometime now, and I was excited about their new location on 2nd St since it’s more convenient for me than the Preston one. If you’re looking for a lunch spot with no frills and a great tasting filling Philly cheesesteak I definitely recommend this place. I’ll elaborate a bit more…. Okay so, looking on the outside and walking in the place needs drastic improvement in the decor department. It’s probably still undergoing some cosmetic stuff, but it definitely gives a hole in the wall feel. Maybe that’s what they are going for, I’m not sure. For me it’s not entirely a turn off because this would be a quick lunch spot after school, but still for some people it might be a deal breaker. The customer service wasn’t the warmest or friendliest, but once again this is a grab and go eatery for me. I’ve read about the long lines and I’ve driven past and seen them myself so when I wasn’t able to get there at 11am when they opened I was prepared for a long wait. I got there at about 11:30 and walked right up and ordered, and in total probably spent about 15-20 mins waiting for my order, so not terrible, but something to keep in mind on a time crunch. I looked up the menu before hand and we decided on what we wanted to eat. My boyfriend specifically requested the Spicy Garlic & Herb Wings, but when I got to the counter to order I was informed this location didn’t serve wings. Which was disappointing bc the website didn’t indicate a different menu for this location. The food was good. I’m not a huge cheesesteak fan, but this sandwich definitely made me a fan. I got a 12in Mushroom Cheesesteak ($12.90) (wasn’t aware of how stuffed with meat this was) and it was absolutely delicious. I polished off half and the other half warmed up nicely the next day. My boyfriend had the classic 6in Philly Cheesesteak ($6.70) and was equally satisfied. Our only complaint being we both wish there was more cheese. The cheese was on the bottom of the sandwich, but I wish it was poured overtop as well. I will definitely add it next time I go. We spilt an order of B-Right fries which are just seasoned fries and I like those as well. Next time I’ll head out to the Preston location just to try some wings and to see if it’s a more inviting environment. The food lived up to the hype for me, I just wish the location did as well. Regardless I’ll be back to demolish another 12in Philly Cheesesteak.

Catch The Chef – Menu with Prices – 111 3rd St SE, Charlottesville

Catch the Chef has amazing food. I’ve never been disappointed with anything that I’ve ordered from them. I love the fried chicken sandwich (I add bacon and cheese to mine), but the star of the show is the cheesesteak. The cheese on the cheesesteak is so creamy and compliments the succulent, sliced steak perfectly. Also, be sure to add fries to your meal; they’re simple shoe-string fries, but they’re fried to perfection and sprinkled with seasoning salt. I will literally try to “catch the chef” anytime they’re nearby; their food is that good! Additionally the owners are wonderful, friendly people who strive to please their customers.

George & Jack’s Tap Room – Menu with Prices – 103 Berry St, Brooklyn

This bar always surprises me with having a solid time. I’ve only come in here late and not during happy hour, but you will still see beers for $5 or less. Whaaaat. Get out of here. Last weekend they had Two Roads Roadsmary’s Baby Pumpkin beer on tap in a 24 ounce glass for only five smackers. Other craft beers (huge list) most of them are $7 or less for a mug. Bartenders were awesome and bought us back a round. Free popcorn with both garlic and old baby seasonings. Hello dinner! If that doesn’t satisfy you enough they have cheap Zapps chips for sale and meat pie deals. I’ve missed out on the meat pies both times but they look great and have a variety from shepherd’s pie to pie stuffed with steak. These little meat pies come with a tin of pickles and are only $10 with the accompaniment of any beer on draft. Deal. This might just be one of my favorite places in Williamsburg.
