As someone who really enjoys good food and taking tons of food pictures for the heck of it, I told myself that one day I will start writing Yelp reviews because it only makes sense to be able to share your experiences with others! After having to move to Texas to attend a out-of-state for four years and intermittently coming back during Winter and Summer breaks, I find myself always requesting my boyfriend to fix my craving for pastrami sandwiches from Brees’ Meats! Oh, and of course all other OC foods hahah! With that being said, I kept it in the back of my mind that Brees’ Meats is the gem of a place that I will dedicate my first Yelp review to. My boyfriend first introduced me to Brees’ Meats a little over 7 years ago. And oh boy, I am SOOO glad that he took me to Brees’ Meats! When we stepped into Brees’ Meats, I was confused and asked him if he was sure that we were at the right spot because there was a sandwich shop a few stores down. But before I had gotten a confirmation I was immediately greeted with a “Hello there, how’s your day?!” AMBIANCE Small and quaint, the butcher store had a glass display with full rows of a variety of cuts of beef, pork, chicken and etc that were whole and pre-marinated. To the left was a little area with spices, herbs, and produce for quick grabs of last minute fixes for whatever protein you may come there for. SERVICE With such a welcoming smile, greeting, and great customer service, the both of us felt like we were able to connect with them like they were our neighbors haha! The son spoke to us about the food options and the father told us about the history of their small family operated business as the wall of Brees’ Meats displayed such recognition and timeline. FOOD Pastrami sandwich [5/5]: The pastrami meat was selected from the glass display, sliced thinly by a strong and sharp machine, warmed up by a microwave and then carefully prepared onto a 12-inch white sandwich bread with mustard and provolone cheese with a pickle on the side. The sandwich also came with a small bag of Lay’s Potato chips. The minute I took a bite out of the sandwich and chewed, the rich flavor of the pastrami meat made me feel like there was a party in my mouth! Every single bite was so flavorful and delicious that I knew I will most definitely be coming back for more! The texture and flavor of the pastrami was so on point it almost felt like it melted in my mouth! At that point I thought to myself how I really wished I knew of Brees’ Meats way sooner!! It was LEGIT!!! SO YUMMY! PARKING -Plentiful is all I need to say =] P.S. I kept my once quiet promise by finally writing a review to fulfill it. Here is to my first foodie Yelp review to a place that deserves all the love! To all the frequent trips to Bree’s Meats after a long pastrami drought for being in Texas for months at a time =] dnL approved =]

Food Fix Truck – Menu with Prices – 610 N 9th St, Modesto

I wanted to try something new … and i seen this place…. My Frist thoughts it’s for a young trendy crowd….hate to say Millennial Hangout… if they slapped a couple of coffee machines in..it would pass as a Starbucks…lol Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice place…. just felt different… cheese graters as lamps…. made me think it’s a sandwich and salad shop… why cheese graters?…. anyway I order the pork pastrami sandwich on a pretzel bun with mac and cheese… they have tons of beer on tap… and little bitty glasses for the beer… I guess its for the working man.. so when they go back to work they don’t feel like a alcoholic…… I just had water… maybe I order the wrong thing… or my expectations was too high …. but it miss on many levels…. 1) was way to mustard heavy.. it wasn’t a French’s mustard… more of a mild Dijon kind of mustard… but each bite I took I had to wipe my mouth and my finger everytime…. I was using some napkins there … haft way threw the sandwich I was tired of the mustard taste … it over power the meat… 2) the pork pastrami… neat concept… but a swing and a miss …. some meat fell off my sandwich… so I tried it with out the mustard…. when I got that pastrami flavor for a second, then the pork over ran it telling me there pork in my mouth …. I just wish I had more of the pastrami taste… but in the sandwich I didn’t taste it much … the mustard was rolling around in my mouth like a dirty little pig…lol 3) the pretzel bun. Was soft like a pillow and Fresh… easy to bite … that would been great for a white roll…. but for a pretzel bun …. swing …strike three… it didn’t have a pleasant cracker-like flavor, a crisp, brittle texture…. it didn’t feel like they use a hot alkaline solution to dip the dough in to get it that pretzel flavor…. it had the brown look to it … but the flavor wasn’t there…. I bet they water bottle it on before it went in the oven … to really get that taste you have to dip in it a water solution (baking soda) for 20 to 30 seconds… so it can catch that taste of a pretzel… to try a ok pretzel bun… try winco pretzel sandwich… and that’s a supermarket making a sandwich… it’s not great … but it taste like a pretzel…. 4) the mac and cheese….. good … just a twist on mac and cheese … for a upper class restaurant…. I would of love it .. but wow it was snowing breadcrumbs on it … way to much … I mix it in to see if i could fix it … i should of turn it on its side and scrap it off like burnt toast… the taste was great … and just enough to make you smile with your sandwich but …..but…. all those breadcrumbs…. mess it up … All in all … Millennials are going to flock to that place just because the atmosphere and those tiny little beers… it will make them feel like a English gentleman… lol Take my review with a grain of salt…. will it be a fad? Or the monster deli of the Millennium outcry… we will see … to that I say good day Sir…

Scott’s Sub Co – Menu with Prices – 1408 N Carpenter Rd # 2, Modesto

UPDATE: Last 2 times my pastrami sandwich wasn’t made well. Last time, the pastrami was dry and the bread was chewy. I attributed it to calling it in too early. This time I called it in 10 minutes ahead of time and it was all bad. The pastrami was still good, but the bread was soaked with the juices and it just fell apart all over the place. I couldn’t even eat it. I ate it immediately too so it wasn’t because I let it set. Better luck next time, I guess. ? Dear Lord. Their hot pastrami and cheese is sinful. I’ve gotten the same thing four weeks in a row. I have good intentions of trying something new until I get to the register and then I order this. There is a TON of delicious pastrami w/ the right amount of cheese and mustard. The mustard just makes it POP. I had a bite of the hot roast beef and tri-tip and those were also yummy. They do NOT skimp on the meat. #VeteranOwned Yasss!

Pacific Crust Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 21451 Brookhurst St, Huntington Beach

Wow, great and amazing sandwiches!! It might be hard to believe but I never tried a Ruben. Yeah, I know..like they say in Spanish: “Que Vergüenza!”. This means “What Shame.” I know, my years being a foodie I never tried a Ruben. But I am so happy I got the opportunity. It’s actually a Pastrami Ruben, but it’s still pretty good. I was in dire need of a bathroom break and since it was already 11:00, I might as well get lunch. I took a look at their menu and I saw that they had a Pastrami Ruben. This looked too good to be true so I quickly ordered my sandwich w/ an Iced Starbucks Caramel Coffee that they had in the freezer and a bottled water. And to my surprise it didn’t take long and it was hot a delicious. They had thick strips of delicious Pastrami covered with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing. It was so delicious that even though it was a little big but I was starving, I was like a vacuum and I was just sucking up everything. And the cherry on top is the owner, Emily. I told her I was gong to make her a review on yelp and she gave me a big hug telling me thank you. To be brief, Pacific Crust Sandwiches are amazing and I would recommend everyone to check this out. It’s a diamond in the rough.

Syb’s West End Deli Menu with Prices 2151 Liberty St, Allentown

When I moved back to PA after 6 years in Florida; I was dying for a Jewish Deli Pastrami sandwich. I went to Sands Casino where I discovered that the Carnegie Deli went out of business 3 months ago. I was not to be denied and pulled out the smart phone and googled best Pastrami sandwich in the Lehigh Valley. Syb’s came up and I called them. I was told their Pastrami was as good or better than Carnegie Deli, so off I went. Here is what happened. After I ordered my sandwich, I saw the the counterman pull out a whole pastrami from the cold cut case. After slicing the pastrami on a slicing machine, I saw him put it in the microwave. After cooking it I saw him put it on a plate which I saw the server pick it up and deliver it to my table. It was horrible. When the women I spoke to on the phone, who I said I was the guy that called you upon my arrival to Syb’s stated that now I have a real deli to come to! I told her I would never come back and that real deli is not microwaved. She got angry and said no one in the Lehigh Valley has a steamer table since the Carnegie Deli closed! It was then that I realized I had to drive and hour and fifteen to Harolds Deli in Edison, NJ to satisfy my deli craving. I have done so a few times since with no regrets. If anyone discovers a deli with a steamer table for Pastrami, Corned Beef, or Brisket – PLEASE let me know! REAL DELI IS NOT MICROWAVED!

Howard’s Donuts – Menu with Prices – 2666 Foothill Blvd, San Bernardino

Great donuts and sandwich shop. Been coming here for years, but decided to do a review on here. Their food is excellent. I always orders the philly cheesesteak, and their pastrami sandwich, but lately I’ve seen that they got a new menu too. I was there early one day and I noticed that people started to order their breakfast burrito, I figured that all their food are good and I was in the mood to try something new. So I opted to order the breakfast burrito, which come with harsh brown, eggs, cheese, and the choice of meats, including bacon, sausage, or ham. I chose to order the one with bacon and sausages. I’ll tell you that it really hit the spot!! It was big enough to satisfied my breakfast craving. Sure this place is not located in the best part of town, but than again this is San Bernardino, and the food and the service there was worth going in and they have many loyal customers just like myself.

Dingers Deli – Menu with Prices – 4255 SE Belmont St, Portland

Oh. My. God. If I could give this place every star from past Yelp reviews and adorn them all over this review, I would. My husband and I have been vegan for 6 years (2 years vegetarian before that). We moved to Portland a few weeks ago, of course knowing that it’s a vegan paradise, hoping for a sanctuary. We were going to see Millencolin at the Hawthorne Theater, wanting to have our first night out in Portland be perfect! We had read about Dinger’s before moving here, ogling over the Instagram posts and Yelp reviews. We couldn’t wait to try it! We took a Lyft to the SE Belmont area and loved the tiny little food cart area where Dinger’s resides. The vibe is so chill, everyone is so nice in this city. My husband ordered the Italian Sub and he helped me make up my impossible mind with the Cuban. Danny was working, he was SO sweet, friendly, funny and all around amazing. The food came out and I couldn’t wait…. it looked insane. We sat in the little bench section to eat. We split the sandwiches, which is one of the best things in the world. We started with the Cuban. The first bite, my husband and I looked at each other with big eyes and proceeded to literally devour the sandwich. The bread is flakey and fresh, the meat is mind blowing, the pickle and mustard combination… everything just melts in your mouth after that first bite into the crisp bread. Next up was the Italian Sub. The deli meat tasted way too realistic and delicious, like how did they recreate salami?!? The mayonnaise-y, crunchy bread with lettuce, that so super iconic flavor of Italian Subs from your childhood, brings back a rush of nostalgia. When we were leaving, Danny asked how it was and we couldn’t even put it into words. He told us we definitely have to try the Chicken Parm sandwich, which I was eyeballing online! I cannot wait to go back!!!

Knickerbockers Deli – Menu with Prices – 421 Wakara Way #200, Salt Lake City

This used to be a good place to get a sandwitch for lunch, but today my wife and I got 2 sorry excuses for sandwiches. My sandwich was the godfatha, and it is supposed to have pastrami, but only came with ham and other deli meats (with the plasticy casing still on that I had to pick out of my teeth and sandwich) and zero pastrami. My wife ordered a pulled pork sanwich and was given some crapy vegan pesto sandwich with zero pulled pork. The location is also vey difficult to get to when you have a car to park. Save yourself the trouble and go to Caputo’s deli and get a real quality sandwich with quality ingredients. I will not be going back to knickerbockers…

Marble & Rye – A Modern Deli – Menu with Prices – 723 Lincoln Ln N, Miami Beach

I was so disappointed. I had read that the pastrami was amazing. It was not edible. It was cut too thick and it was rubbery. There was no fat that is part of a good pastrami sandwich and it did not have that delicious pastrami spice. Worst of all, the served it on white bread and insisted it was rye. I walked back to there counter and showed them what rye bread looked like and they gave me two pieces for my sandwich.

Solomon’s Delicatessen – Menu with Prices – 730 K St, Sacramento

Since I am a Jewie Jew Jew Jew, I was excited for this place to finally open. Seriously, they announced this place like two years before it opened. I know they opened a sister location in Davis, but I try to avoid that nut job town as much as I can since I moved away from there. I wanted a Jewish deli in Sac to replace Sam’s (RIP Sam’s). I am a huge fan of Jewish delis. I was recently in NYC and hit up as many bagel joints and Jew delis as I could for the week I was there (check out some of my reviews!). So I take these things pretty seriously. When I go to a Jewish deli, I’m looking for a few things: deli staples (like sodas, sides, etc), quality of meat, quality of rye bread, quality of pickle, and ambiance. The ambiance here is interesting. It is very bright and lots of music. It feels a bit more like a fast casual chain than it does a deli. But it’s kinda fun and has the musical homage to Russ. They do have a very large eating area outside, so you can be one with the roaming vagrants of K St. I came in and had the pastrami sandwich with a Dr Browns cream soda and my friend ordered the corned beef. I do love that they have Doc Browns which is a staple of nyc Jew delis (I believe they even had Celery flavor !). Points for this place. The sandwich came out lightning fast. Like 2 minutes after I ordered and paid. Suspiciously too fast. The presentation of the plate was great: rye bread with meat stacked up between rye bread, bagel chips, coleslaw and a pickle. Just the one pickle. Not a variety of pickles you’d normally get at a Jewish deli. I will say, the bagel chips were fantastic, crisp but not to thick or hard; very good flavor. The coleslaw: it was fine, it served its purpose. The pickle: also fine, wasn’t amazing like many other Jewish delis. But these are the sides. Lets talk about the main event: da pastrami. When I think of pastrami sandwiches,I think of multiple thin, delicate sheets of pastrami piled high like Mille-Feuille pastry in between rye bread so good you’ll smack your bubbe. What I got was: a pastrami like substance that seemed scooped into the sandwich like chicken salad. Let me be clear: this was not slices of pastrami. It looks like they cook the pastrami and break it down so that it’s falling apart like chipped beef. It was also dripping grease. A pastrami sandwich is the pinnacle of a Jewish deli sandwich; it needs to be treated with love and reverence. That was not the case with this sandwich. The flavor was fine, but the consistency and dripping liquid fat was a failure. My friends corned beef, that had identifiable slices of very thin corned beef. He said his sandwich was fine but not worth $16. And don’t get me started on a Ruben being at a “Jewish deli”. The mixture of meat and dairy (such as beef and cheese) is forbidden according to Jewish law. Granted, Rubens are awesome, I just don’t advertise being Jewish while I eat one. This place seems disjointed just like the group that opened it: some Formoli folks, Jewish folks, and red Rabbit folks. They call this place a Jewish deli but, it’s not really, not yet. This place seems to lack one clear concept. Is it a bagel place? Is it a deli? Is it a hip hangout? It doesn’t really accomplish any of these. I’m open to coming back in a bit and trying it again, but this place really needs to take a step back and figure out what it really wants to be.

The Fat Butcher Deli Menu with Prices 1022 Walton Way, Augusta

Wow! Now I am a girl that likes a sandwich and this place is amazing! I came here whit a CoFriend-Worker and she explained to me that she usually ordered the Italian Stallion. So I went with her recommendation. Boy am I glad that I did. The owner and his wife work as a cute well oiled team, even though it was her first day joining him – you wouldn’t have been able to tell unless she said. He explained the two meat sizes of the sandwich as well as the bread choices. The sandwich came super quickly and with all the added fixins like black olives, evoo drizzle and oregano – if that is your style. The drinks are endless to wet your whistle as you consume the sandwich masterpiece. All the meat is boars head brand which are notorious for being flavorful and great sandwich meats. I enjoyed this place so much i told my husband we would have to come back with our babies just to have a wonderful bite to eat.

Sonnenberg’s Market & Deli – Menu with Prices – 1528 E Sprague Ave, Spokane

Here we go… it’s a hidden gem that has been in Spokane forever but warning it’s not in the best art of town. It’s on sprague which is not a place I would want to casually walk around but I will make a quick stop for their deli and meat selection! They have a large variety of meats from seafood, sandwich meats, steaks, chicken, pork and so much more. I’ve tried just about every cut of meat and it has been mouth watering delicious (specially if you’re a good cook) They do have specials, family packages which I think is pretty legit. If you are going for quality meat and want it fresh then this is a legit spot. If you’re strange like me and like landjargers then give these a try!! They do it all in house and I always get a few every time I go. Lastlyyou can have a sandwich made up while you wait, doesn’t get much better than that?!â? they use fresh bread, toppings and you can always get extra meat etc Again.. If you can get past the fact that it’s in a sketchy area and it’s a random convenient store/ a few weird people that go in and out the you will love this spot.

Jersey Mike’s Subs – Menu with Prices – 2795 Richmond Ave, Staten Island

Well, “Jersey Mikes” opened up this week right next door to Petland Discounts in the Pergament Mall. Had to stop by and try it. I ordered the Grilled Pastrami Reuben, which consists of: Pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut & Thousand Island dressing. It was ok. Nothing special. I probably will not order it again. I should have had one of the cold sandwiches instead. I am not going to give this sandwich or this place a bad review or anything because they just opened and you can’t really judge the place or the food after one meal. I will return again this week to have one of the other items on the menu. But definitely will not order the Grilled Pastrami again….Best of luck to this newly opened restaurant, we need another place to go to for subs instead of having to go to (ugh) “Subway”. Here is an updated review; Went back on 7/7/19 and had the “#13 The Original Italian”. Which consisted of Provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami and pepperoni” and yes, I will order it again. The only thing I would leave off of it is the spices.
