Just when I was starting to feel like I’ve eaten at all the good food stop in Glendale… I come across this gem! I was driving down Brand on my lunch break trying to think of a new place to grab lunch at the sign for Brand Grill catches my eye. I quickly check my yelp app and I saw 3…yes 3 5-star reviews. I can’t say no to a Mediterranean place so I pull into the lot. I come in and boy this place is small… I’m talking real hole in the wall. There are 3 2-seater tables and, what looks like, a covered deli counter. Above that is a row of entrees and sandwiches… just about all of them under $10. http://s3-media4.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/jsxDNt5QhqJA65mhJSvtRQ/l.jpg I make my order an the guy behind the counter says that there is about a 20 minute wait as everything is made from scratch… me likey. THE ORDER #5: 1 Beef Shish Kabob and one Luleh Kabob Plate – 5 out of 5 – Wow…just..wow! First off the plate was HUGE! This was enough food for two people. I take a bite of the beef shish kabob and seriously almost fall out of my chair. It was moist, tender and perfectly seasoned. The luleh was equally good. It was super tasty and juicy. Also on the plate was a huge serving of rice, some white onions and red onions and a roasted tomato and pepper. Add to this that the platting was done well too. http://s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/v0nRYZ-mCKWOkpvh2G3Lmg/l.jpg OVERALL These are some of the best kabobs I’ve EVER had. It’s up there with Mini Kabob also here in glendale…maybe even a little higher as the service here is very pleasant. Do yourself a favor and give this place a shot.

Cafe Elegante – Menu with Prices – 2905 N Glenoaks Blvd, Burbank

Why didn’t I stop by this place sooner!!! I always pass by this establishment and have always wondered how it is..after the meal I had I will definitely be back! We ordered the following items to go: Soltani with Basmati Rice, Luleh Kabob with Basmati rice, Chicken Luleh with sour cherry rice, and an order of hummus. Hummus was great! It came with a pack of sliced pita and a side of sumac…Not too lemony like other places! The rice on all 3 entrees was fluffy and perfectly seasoned! Meats were fresh and tender! They each also came with a roasted tomato and my favorite:onions and parsley!! The lady who handed me the food was also very nice and greeted me warmly. The place had a homey and calm feel to it. We cant wait to go back, will definitely try the eggplant dip next time! Thank you Cafe Elegante!

Why Not Kabob – Menu with Prices – 1219 S Glendale Ave, Glendale

Found this place on Yelp while visiting the Glendale area, and I really have to say it did not disappoint. The family that owns this place are very friendly and you can tell that they are a neighborhood restaurant with “regulars” that come for dinner often. For you older folks, it kind of reminded me of the Cheers Bar where everyone was greeted like a family member and they know your name. Even though this was our first visit, they were warm and welcoming. Our party had the beef luleh platter, the beef shish kabob platter, and a salmon salad, plus a side of Tzatziki. Everything was awesome, except I have to say they could improve on their salad dressing which tasted like generic bottled “Italian” dressing. The basmati rice was tasty and perfectly cooked, the pitas were warm and chewy, the meats were cooked perfectly, including the salmon which was not over-cooked. A grilled pepper and grilled tomato come with the platter dinners and were great smashed into the rice. The prices for this quality of food and service are exceptional. I don’t know how they can give you so much food for the amount you pay, but please keep this place open — you will enjoy it!

Sevan Meat Market – Menu with Prices – 1315 E Colorado St, Glendale

Oh my Lord. I just had the most amazing Persian feast at home! The prepared eggplant dip ($6.99) was soooo delicious and so was the mast moosir (yogurt with garlic). (5.99) so worth it!! Their Lavash was VERY fresh and I usually don’t like lavash (sometimes it’s dry). I had given up on store bought dolma (it’s gross, bitter and end up spitting it out) but not from here! I tried the cabbage one and grape leaves one and I personally liked the grape leaf one a bit better, but both were delicious! I’ll definitely buy them again. (Making them is so much work) And of course the meat. I brought home the beef Lule kabob (koobideh) and the Shish kebab. Both so juicy, flavorful and FRESH. Amazing. Usually when I get the prepared kabobs from Middle East markets like super king, or Johns, the meat smells like old rotten animal, and the flavor isn’t that great either. I’m so glad I came here and not too far from me in Highland Park. The guy in the meat counter was very nice and cute!

Panini Kabob Grill – Bakersfield Menu with Prices 3111 Ming Ave Ste. 470, Bakersfield

Let me start this review of by saying that I’m half Persian, so I’ve gotten the chance to know what a good kabob is. I only tried the Beef Koobideh Kabob when I went, and I thought it was pretty good. It certainly wasn’t the best that I have had, but for the price you really can’t go wrong. My brother ordered the Beef Koobideh Kabob entree and I ordered the Koobideh Wrap. I thought that my wrap was a nice twist on the traditional way of eating kabob. The portions are huge, so I suggest sharing with someone else. The reason that this review has such a low rating is the service. Our waitress was terrible. From the start, she had a bad attitude and seemed like she would rather be anywhere else. I was very confused by this, because I saw her interactions with other tables and she was friendly to them. When I was deciding between two items on the menu and asked for her opinion, she replied with a very sarcastic answer and did not answer my question. She never came to check on us during the meal, not even once. At one point my brother wanted to order a water and I waved her down to ask for one. She made eye contact with me for a few seconds and then chose to ignore me and kept on walking away. I had to call out to her to ask for a water and then she seemed annoyed that I was asking her for one. I was very exasperated by this. At the end of the meal, we were trying to get our check but she was very hard to get a hold of. I ended up asking someone else for it, but she managed to get my waitress’s attention. We waited for close to fifteen minutes at the end of our meal to get the check, and then it took even longer for her to pick it up and return it. The service was extremely disappointing. I will not be returning to this location because of it. On the check it said that our waitress’s name was Rocio.

Alexandria Grill – Menu with Prices – 6300 N Wickham Rd #119, Melbourne

Alexandria Mediterranean Grill – Suntree – 4 Stars “The matter does not appear to me now as it appears to have appeared to me then.” –Bramwell The word Mediterranean conjures up thoughts of a wide array of dining delicacies, with a proverbial moon shot of possibilities and delectable trip down tastebud lane. I have always been of the opinion that in the food industry, a restaurant should choose one cuisine and do it well. In my travels, I have only seen one restaurant, Marietta Diner, pull off a 50 page menu with selections from virtually every country well. Alexandria Mediterranean Grill offers Arabic, Persian, and Greek fare. Of these, I do not suggest you come here to get the Greek food. Before placing my order I actually asked the Sous Chef if they had a spit for Gyro, but he replied that they do not and use frozen strips, similar with the other Greek offerings. So as I perused the menu I decided to stick with Middle Eastern selections. I ordered a tabouleh salad and the lamb shish kabob. The tabouleh was made to order rather than pre-made, which makes a huge difference in the flavor with its freshness. The parsley, cracked wheat, lemon juice, and tomatoes were blended so perfectly and executed with such precision it was an incredible joy to savor this salad; each bite was bursting with flavor. The shish kabob came with premium quality cuts of lamb. The lamb was cooked to temperature and served rested, which is very important with lamb dishes. It comes with a side of basmati rice, which was cooked to the right consistency. One would think this would be easy to do but so many restaurants fail in this seemingly simple endeavor. The garlic sauce served with the lamb is tangy, flavorful, and appropriately garlicky – complete bliss. The Big Boy recommends Alexandria Grill for your Middle Eastern cravings, which is what they seem to do best.

Choo Choo Train Udon – Menu with Prices – 3030 Sepulveda Blvd, Torrance

Torrance Food Crawl #350 Choo Choo Train Udon has to have one of the cutest names of any food place in Torrance. It’s located in the corner of the Market World supermarket and was formerly named Hanada Sushi. I’m not sure if there was an ownership change or not but the menu has changed, but still is a variety of Asian choices, mostly Korean and Japanese. The Combo #2 has an Udon Noodle Soup (http://bit.ly/2I3c5OY) that has a nice clear clean tasting broth, with seaweed, bean sprouts, green onions, and bread-like strips on top. The soup was accompanied with some kimchi and a sliced yellow item that I think was Korean melon. Very good. (4/5) The combo also included a Spicy Tuna Roll (http://bit.ly/2tchyhP). The sushi was served sliced on-end with the tuna and a spicy sauce on top. There was a nice crunchiness with the vegetable fillings. The tuna was a little lost in the spicy sauce. (3/5) The Bento Box Deluxe (http://bit.ly/2JSdVIn) comes with a large portion of food. Rather than beef I had mine with Spicy Pork, which was very thinly sliced and lightly spiced. The meat had a slight sandpapery texture but the taste was fine. The cabbage salad had an orange colored dressing, good. The sushi and kimchi were average. There also was a large portion of white rice. A small cup of their soup broth (http://bit.ly/2MEcpqV) was also provided, very good. (3/5) There are a few tables inside where you can eat but most business seems to be takeout. It also seems to be customary to pay for your items after they’ve been prepared if you have takeout, or if you eat there to pay at the counter after you’ve eaten.

House of Kabob – Menu with Prices – 1212 Sparkman Dr NW, Huntsville

Very friendly staff. We were served by I assume the proprietor based on how she was talking. She gave us an extra soup and also brought my daughter crayons and paper to color. We were also checked on at least three times by another friendly employee. The food was delicious. I had a two kabob combo, chicken and beef, and my wife had a chicken and beef kabob a la carte. The odd thing was that my chicken kabob was chunks of chicken and hers was ground. Both of them were very flavorful, especially with the taziki, but we the menu wasn’t clear on what the difference was. I enjoyed the soup very much as well. I could see ordering that soup as a main entree on a winter day, maybe with some pita. The worst I can say is that I wish I had ordered more, as I didn’t know what the portion sizes would be, and I wish they had fountain drinks as opposed to cans. Other than that, very positive experience. We will definitely be back.

Arlington Kabob Menu with Prices 5046 Lee Hwy, Arlington

I can’t believe I never reviewed this place until now. This is by far my favorite kabob place in the DMV area!! The staff is always very friendly and on point. I probably eat here at least 2-5x per month. Food is always consistent. Plus I love that the food is not that greasy so I can go back to work right after I eat instead of being in food coma. They serve free mint tea if you eat there which I like to drink in the end after my delicious meal. When the female owner is on-site, I noticed the food is slightly better then normal. My favorite option is the combo for 2 where you can order 4 different meats and I will split it with a co-worker. If I have to order just for my self, then I always get the Kufta Chicken Kabob which is my absolute favorite of all the wonderful kabobs they have. My friends joke with me and call me Kabob King because I’m addicted to kabobs and like to try new places all the time. Arlington Kabob is still my favorite and I have converted so many of my friends over. Plus they accept credit cards which is convenient. I prefer this place over Ravi Kabob and Kabob Palace… although there is no denying that Ravi has the best chickpeas ever.

Pita Street – Menu with Prices – 11400 Fourth St #104, Rancho Cucamonga

Wow! Our entire food tasted amazing. Paneer kabob plate: THE BEST. It was everyone’s favorite. I would totally recommend this for anyone who is vegetarian. The paneer was not oily or greasy, it was cooked perfectly. Falafel plate: One of the best falafel I’ve had. It was crunchy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside. They fried it perfectly. Very flavorful. Chicken shawarma plate: Tender and juicy. Lots of flavor. The chicken was cooked crispy but was still juicy and tender. Loved this! Chicken kabob plate: Yum!! Huge pieces of flavorful chicken. The portion is great and very filling. The basmati rice that came with all the plates WAS THE BEST. The rice had so much flavor and was melting in our mouths. We all agreed the rice in the meal was a huge bonus. The hummus in the plates was smooth, creamy, and did not taste bitter or overwhelming. I Best for last: The PITA BREAD!! I have had so many different places and the pita bread here was the softest and most fresh tasting. It tasted buttery and melts in your mouth. Garlic sauce: smooth and perfectly flavored. Buttery and great to dip meat in. Customer service from the older man was inviting and I truly appreciated his hospitality. Was impressed with the food! Would recommend this plate 10/10.

Kabob House Food Corner Menu with Prices 933 N Quincy St, Arlington

It takes a really long time to get your order. I’ve stopped by a handful of times from the week after their grand opening to a month later and things aren’t better. They make everything on order, including grilling the kabob fresh, which is great because it’s fresh and tasty. But it takes a long time during lunch hour. I ordered a kabob dish and the cashier did not recommend it for lunch time because it takes 20 minutes. I also think that the salads would be better with some tasty additions, such as pickled vegetables (turnips, onions, radishes). Otherwise, the meat is excellent — well seasoned, tender, tasty. The bread is outstanding. There also seems to be some workflow issues that need improvement, which I think — if fixed — would make it better. I ordered before three other people and all of those folks got my order before mine. Two of them ordered the exact same item and the server called out the order by dish, not name, so the two who came after me got their orders before I did. I hope that these issues are improved because they are one establishment after several that have not succeeded in that particular spot.

Carnitas La Cotorra – Menu with Prices – 3031 S 1st St, Garland

I am on personal quest to find the best taco in the DFW metropolitan area. I will be rating my opinion based on three criteria’s. 1. Is the taco as good a Sanora style taco. 2. Does it taste good without salsa. 3. Originality to be fair to TEX-MEX style. I will only order beef, pastar, or carnitas since these are the main tacos most people order. Beef Taco good flavor of a street taco but needed the help of the salsa 3 Pastar taco was good and was served of the kabob and was sliced off the kabob a little dry but still good 3

Taqueria El Otro Amigo – Menu with Prices – 17236 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance

Since my last review of El Otro Amigo, I find myself coming here more often than any other restaurant in Torrance. I like the variety on the menu, the food quality, and the affordable prices. El Otro Amigo (“The Other Friend”) is the sister restaurant of El Amigo (“The Amigo”) located in Lakewood, and while the menu is almost the same, El Otro Amigo is newer, with more seating, and better parking. There are breakfast choices, but no breakfast burritos. Potatoes and Bacon are not used in the kitchen so an American style Breakfast Burrito can’t be made, however, if you request, they can make something similar with eggs, vegetables, cheese, and meat if you’re hard pressed for a burrito. My favorite items include the following. Softshell Tacos (http://bit.ly/2XrtVHb) – good choice of meats, onions, cilantro, very tasty. Burritos (http://bit.ly/2RsRZUE) – great fillings, best if served with wet red or green sauce, and you may even need to get a takeout box as the portion sizes are huge. Flautas (Taquitos) (http://bit.ly/2ZIk4tQ) – a nice change of pace, lots of meat filling. Mojarra Frita (http://bit.ly/2LbBJ9s) – a whole tilapia fish (with head and tail) with lots of flesh, just need to watch for bones. Tortas (http://bit.ly/2x8jJVn) – when a sandwich is calling your name these are great, with nice fillings and good tasting. Other notable items include the plates (chicken, shrimp, chicken) (http://bit.ly/2KyABNC) served with Diabla (“she-devil”) sauce, when you want something on the spicy side. The breakfast plates (http://bit.ly/2WVRAeF) are good if you want eggs with a Mexican flair. The Cocktel de Camarones (“shrimp cocktail”) (http://bit.ly/2FsNYea) is better thought of as a cold soup with shrimp instead of the item you would typically get in an American restaurant. I usually eat in, but when I’ve ordered takeout the quality of the food is just about the same. When eating here, I’ve seen a lot of food delivery people dropping by to pick up orders so this place is getting more popular. The kitchen seems to have their act together as usually there doesn’t seem to be a long wait for your order. I feel sorry for the people across the street sitting at the El Pollo Loco drive-thru who are ordering the same generic stuff they can get anywhere when for a couple of bucks more they could have a much more memorable experience if they were to eat here at El Otro Amigo.
