It took us a bit of time to find the cafe, it is hidden behind the main area of Old Mill, it is tucked in behind Jimmy John’s sandwich shop, but worth discovering. We sat inside, but they do have a few patio seats. Mr. B started with an old fashioned made with chai which is interesting, and it was quite good. He ordered the meatballs in a spicy sauce served over polenta. The sauce is not overly spicy, but has a nice level of heat to it and the polenta was creamy and very good. I opted for the housemade Spatzle mac and cheese. You don’t typically find Spatzle in restaurants other than German and they were tender and had a nice flavor to them. The cheese sauce was rich and creamy, the perfect comfort food and the dish was topped with toasted, seasoned breadcrumbs which added a nice crunchy texture to the dish.We were very happy with our drinks and our meal.

The Hall on Washington St. – Menu with Prices – 108 W Washington St, Louisville

When I heard that a German-inspired beer and sausage hall had opened downtown, I was there. This is one food niche that is not already represented in our crowded restaurant scene, and I’m thankful for The Hall on Washington Street bringing something new. The Hall is a bit hidden, off of Main Street. And coupled with the fact that cell phones seem not to work while inside — texting only works if you can get on the wifi — dining here made me feel happily disconnected so that I could relax a bit. The menu is not overly full but contains a lot that definitely piqued my interest: charcuterie, German pretzels, fried Brussel sprout salad, and several interesting Wurst fries (yes to Sloppy Joe fries!), among others. For German favorites, the Hall offers up schnitzel, schwenkbraten, sauerkraut and several sausages. I opted for the Bavarian Bratwurst with tomato jam and sauerkraut. (How could I come here and not get a wurst considering it’s a specialty!?!) This bratwurst had spice and flavor, and the sauerkraut was delightfully tangy. I do wish that the Hall had spätzle, my favorite German delicacy, on its menu as an entree. But they do have käsespätzle — cheese spätzle — as a side. This is made with beer cheese, I believe, and helped me feed my spätzle craving a bit. And speaking of beer, the Hall has a great selection, as you can imagine. I went with the Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, probably my favorite German beer. The Hall also has cocktails, wine and “boosted beer” cocktails. Our service was very quick and attentive. This restaurant is somewhat small, but could definitely be a fun spot, especially if you go before or after a game at the Yum Center. I will be going back.

Schwaben House – Menu with Prices – 1810 Laurens Rd, Greenville

Excellent authentic German Cuisine A hidden gem in Greenville Observations: Limited parking so plan ahead Indoor and outdoor seating available Upscale but not overly fancy atmosphere Great for a romantic dinner Very clean and welcoming throughout Untypical costal/travel decor Full bar and wine list Friendly and informed wait staff Small menu (that is well executed) Fresh quality products cooked to perfection We were quickly seated and offered drinks. Salads were crisp, fresh and flavorful. I selected the Schwaben Pfanne which was perfectly cooked tender pork medallions topped with a rich flavorful mushroom sauce. The spatzle was rich, supple and a beautiful accompaniment to the pork. The Beef Roulade was even more luxurious in the beef demiglace sauce, dumplings and cheese spatzle and red cabbage. We nearly licked the plates clean and were too full to order desert! If you enjoy good food made well then you will not be disappointed here. We will make the 1 hour drive where we live to eat here at least once a month! The service and atmosphere was great. 2nd time we brought family with us. We all ordered the special – Sauerbraten which was absolutely delicious. If you are going to sit outside however, you may want to bring mosquito spray. Otherwise it was a perfect evening.

La Dolce Vita – Menu with Prices – 3331 NE 33rd St, Fort Lauderdale

Italian food is arguably my favorite type of food. However, Italian restaurants tend to disappoint me more than any other type of restaurant. Unfortunately, La Dolce Vita continued that disappointing trend. My wife and I visited on Friday night. To start we had the Polenta Al Tartufo. This was an enjoyable appetizer: savory polenta was topped with a cream sauce and tender mushrooms. My pasta dish was a disaster. The Chitarrina Salsiccia & Tartufo was one of the most raved about dishes based on other online reviews so I felt compelled to order it. It was a like eating wet noodles: the cream sauce was watery and the sausage pieces were flavorless. My wife ordered another popular pasta dish, the Chitarrina Calamari E Pomo Morbidi, which was also bland. I will say the service was good and thoughtful but it couldn’t make up for the poor quality of the food.

Ireland’s Own / Jagerhaus Pub – Menu with Prices – 3025 Ashley Town Center Dr, Charleston

Stopped by since I was hearing good things about this place. I think the two separate concepts are interesting. They have the German side and the Irish side. We opted to sit in the German side. However, you can get the full menu at both sides. We were told that the beer lists were different though. Food: We started off the Pretzel Sticks with spicy mustard. The order comes with two sticks so it is perfect for a couple to split as an app. The pretzels were soft and tasty. The guy had the Jager Schnitzel and I opted for the Corned Beef Reuben on Rye w/ mac and cheese. The Jager Schnitzel was good and not too greasy. The mashed potatoes were a tad on the dry side. The gravy on top of the schnitzel was just salty enough to add good seasoning and flavor without taking away from the pork. The Reuben was delicious! They used thick slices of corned beef, which is the best. My only negative was that the bread was fairly wet on the underside. I think it might have been too much oil on the one side when they were making it. Overall the flavor was awesome and I would still get it again. And the mac and cheese was creamy and in my opinion, could have used a tad more seasoning but it was still solid. Drinks: We tasted almost all of the beers on the German side. There was a good variety and the as much as I love a good IPA, it was nice to drink some lighter German beers. Arcade: On the German side, there are is a small arcade, two pool tables, VR simulators, and two golf (sports) simulators. We had so much fun playing the different games and a couple games of pool. They are new so everything is in good condition. We want to go back and check out the golf simulator! This is a good addition to West Ashley. This was an interesting concept and I appreciate it has a little of everything for everyone. I’m sure this won’t be the last time we go here. Check them out!

The Watering Hole West – Menu with Prices – 1550 S Coddington Ave Suite P, Lincoln

I’m not sure why everyone is complaining so much. I had a great experience. I’m from Omaha, so we don’t get up to Lincoln a whole lot. But when we do, we like to go here. I picked up take out from there today, and the wings were larger than average in my opinion. If you compare them to a Buffalo Wild Wings, they were about double or little bit more in size. I think the selling points for me is the sauce. The ones I’ve tried are dynamite, and you can tell that they are not from a bottle and are homemade. We tried the blackberry barbecue, which was a very sweet barbecue sauce with notes of berries. The parmesan garlic, which was so creamy and rich and a perfect blend of cheese and garlic. Typically sometimes one overpowers the other at other restaurants. The teriyaki, which was probably most like what you would expect from other restaurants but still good. Finally, the bang bang. I can’t put my finger on what is in it, but it is delightful. It’s very creamy, sweet, and just a teeny bit of heat. So my experience was very positive. I would like to try more of their sauces in the future. I definitely will be coming back!

Madeleine’s Fusion Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 423 SE 2nd St, Evansville

Oh my gosh!! What a fabulous dining experience. We arrived later in the evening and not too many people were in the restaurant. But wow-just wow. We had the Cajun steak bites for an appetizer. They were the perfect amount of spicy. Enough kick to know they were spicy but not fire breathing dragon hot. I ordered Marsala shrimp and it was delicious. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. Sauce was excellent. My husband got the winning dish of the night- the cheese ravioli with bacon and champagne sauce. This dish was AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL, FABULOUS, MOUTH WATERING, COMPLETELY AN TOTALLY DELICIOUS!!! Yes we loved it! Madeline’s has a nice wine list too. Our service was excellent and the servers were sincerely nice (we’ve all had the ones that have had formulaic customer service training ). We had a lovely conversation with the owner to top off a perfect evening. All I can say is don’t miss this place!

Chicken Guy! – Menu with Prices – 19565 Biscayne Blvd Ste 2946, Miami

I was expecting a lot more from this place, I ordered a chicken sandwich simple enough with two sauces; spicy mayo and garlic sauce. I have to say I was extremely disappointed, seasoning should be added to the batter maybe it wasn?t added that day. I will say the sandwich is well made with good presentation but it lacks in flavor even with the added sauces. I also ordered a side of fries that you have to pay for separately which is fine but they were tepid. The flavor of the French fries were nice but the temperature not so hot. I?d even say the fries are better than five guys which are usually too greasy. I was not satisfied maybe you will have better luck or know exactly what to ask for when ordering. Fries extra hot & crunchy, sandwich flavor please.

Hot & Spicy Corner – Menu with Prices – 3431 Houma Blvd suite b, Metairie

I cannot emphasize how happy I am that: 1. Hot and Spicy Corner extists and 2. That they are on food delivery apps! Until this point, good casual (Saffron is great but a little too fancy for eating while you binge watch Netflix in your pajamas) Indian food was the hole missing in the heart of New Orleans food scene. My boyfriend’s family is from India so he and I may have been a little excessive in our ordering: 1. Chicken biriyani- tender bone in chicken in rice with the perfect amount of spice! 2. Goat Curry- I didn’t have this, but my boyfriend said it was incredibly flavorful 3. Chicken Tikka Masala- beautifully tender chunks of chicken in a spicy, creamy sauce. This had a good kick to it that I’m not used to getting at restaurants. 4. Chicken Manchurian- great dish, basically an Indian take on Chinese food. My boyfriend said that this is something he has been trying to track down for a while. 5. Bhindi Masala- chopped okra in spicy masala seasoning. This was probably my favorite! 6. Dal Makhani- think of this as Indian red beans and rice. Flavorful and very filling. Honestly, each dish could easily feed two people, so we will be eating this for the next few days, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! There are a TON of veggie options as well as halal meat. Definitely check them out!

Haiku Tokyo – Menu with Prices – 2224 E Williams Field Rd Suite 108, Gilbert

So we ended up here by default because we couldn’t go to the intended restaurant of choice. I admit I had my qualms about this place when I first stepped in. I tend to be skeptical about Asian food restaurants in the malls because they often turn out to be generic and disappointing. Well this place I have to say…I was PLEASANTLY surprised. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen with beef as the protein and Minus the corn and chilis. The broth was rich and just enough saltiness from the pork and chicken broth. The soup had a nice creamy buttery after taste to give it an umami flavor. The beef was nice and tender and went well with the soup. My only critique is that the broth still has chili oil added to it making it slightly spicy. I actually thought it was a perfect hint of spiciness to go with the soup, but I was actually getting it to share with my kid so I didn’t expect it to be spicy at all. Also, if you have been to other ramen places you know the egg is usually seasoned. This egg was not seasoned. For me I didn’t mind at all because the egg was cooked perfectly and enjoyed it with the broth. Overall I was satisfied. Side note: they do military discounts! Final verdict: Would I go back? YES Would I recommend it? YES

Blu’s Barbeque & BBQ Catering – Menu with Prices – 17630 Preston Rd, Dallas

Really excited to have a great new BBQ place nearby. I stopped in for a late lunch today and just getting out of my car I was met with the delicious aroma of freshly smoked BBQ and I knew if it tasted half as good as it smelled I was in for a treat. The meat is cut to order (and weighed) in front of you and the guys are very conscious of your preferences (lean, moist, etc) and making sure you don’t get a single gram less than you’re paying for. I tried the 5 cheese Mac and cheese for my side and it was good and a generous portion. I’m a bit of a Mac and cheese snob so while I liked it I do think there’s room for improvement. It was creamy and cheesy but it was a bit bland. I’m thinking it could benefit from some pepper and seasoning salt, maybe a sharper cheddar. It just needed something to amp up the flavor. Don’t pass on it though, it’s still very good. They also had a bacon jalapeño Mac and cheese that looked great so I’ll try it that one next time. The brisket was so tender and juicy I didn’t need the knife I grabbed. Great flavor and didn’t *need* sauce but it was a good compliment to it. The regular sauce and the spicy sauce were both good. The spicy sauce wasn’t all that spicy and a 3rd option of a super spicy would be a nice addition. The dining area was very clean and a nice size. It’s not huge and it kind of gave me the feel of that small town place that all the locals know about. And they were playing Texas Country which was a smart choice! The staff was so, so, so nice. There wasn’t salt and pepper on the tables or the sauce stand (I personally think there should be) but I asked for pepper and the gentleman at the register happily got me some. I’ll be back again! Hoping they add turkey to their regular selections (selfishly) because I’m sure its awesome.

Ali’i Poke – Downtown Indy – Menu with Prices – 910 W 10th St #4, Indianapolis

This was my first poke experience, and it did not disappoint. As I used to work down the street for the past few years, I had always wanted to try it but never got around to it. I took my wife for lunch today, and was completely blown away. I already had high expectations after reading the reviews, however all was exceeded. I went with the pele bowl (spicy) with spicy tuna and shrimp. Additionally, I added avocado and creamy miso sauce. The flavors were great, and man was it spicy. The fresh jalapeño really had a nice heat to it, as did the wasabi. I love that you can add as much or as little of each topping, and all of the flavors together were perfect. The spicy tuna was great, as was the marinated tuna (from my wife’s dish). The prices are great for what you get, regular is about 9.50 and large is 13.50. I ordered with my stomach and went with the large. While I was able to finish it all, I would’ve been more than stuffed had I just ordered the regular. Overall, my first poke experience went above and beyond my expectations. I will definitely be coming back for more.

Corporate Deli Menu with Prices 600 108th Ave NE Suite 10, Bellevue

I got the Spicy Chicken Teriyaki to go for lunch today. It was actually quite nice. The chicken is moist and tender with a crisp sear on the outside and is packed with flavor. It’s one of the few places where the “spicy” was actually spicy(I’m Indian and I love my spice). The portions are huge with generous amounts of chicken and a massive mound of rice. I wish the rice was seasoned because the thick spicy sauce doesn’t mix in quite evenly. I added some soy sauce to the rice just for seasoning. It also comes with a simple side salad and you can pick between ranch and Italian dressing. Over all a super quick value for money meal. Nothing fancy, just plain solid grub.
