Nothing conquers winter chills like a bowl of hot soup. Boiling Point offers a different take on hot pot. Rather than assembling and cooking the ingredients yourself, you’re brought an already assembled, mostly cooked bowl which is placed atop a portable stove to keep it piping hot. Convenience in lieu of the fun factor of traditional hot pot. There was a long wait when the wife and I arrived on a Saturday afternoon. But not all tables were filled – a couple tables were covered in dirty dishes and not cleared during our half hour wait. But once we were seated and had ordered, the food came quickly. Because it was after 3pm, we had to pay dinner prices instead of lunch prices. The wife ordered the Beef Hot Soup ($15.36), while I opted for the Lamb Hot Soup ($15.36). The broth was flavorful, though the broth in the wife’s soup got noticeably saltier towards the bottom. Half of my soup was cabbage and other vegetables, but there was still a reasonable amount of ingredients and the quality was decent. The soups come with a bowl of rice, which I paid $2.50 to upgrade to include a runny egg and green onions. There was already an egg in the soup, but hey, more protein! The wife also ordered the Hokkaido Milk Tea ($5.50). It was decent but too creamy; it tasted like a third of it was cream. We’d also ordered an appetizer but it was never brought out, which might’ve been a good thing because the soup was pretty filling. When I asked the waiter to ensure that the appetizer was not on the bill, he complied but was pretty stoic and non-apologetic. And not a word when he handed me the bill. Overall the price is reasonable for what you get here, but don’t expect anything spectacular in the food or service department.

Mario’s Portofino – Menu with Prices – 1505 S Virginia St, Reno

My wife and I came here about 12:30pm for lunch on a Friday. You enter into the bar area and there is a sign stating, please wait to be seated. The dining area is to the right. It was not very busy and there were about 11 tables open when we arrived. We were seated right away.We checked out the menu and were brought waters and had our drink orders taken. My wife decided to order a cup of the minestrone soup. The soup was delivered along with a small basket of bread and butter. My wife really enjoyed the soup and said it was very tasty. For our meals my wife ordered the lasagna and I ordered the meatball sandwich. They were delivered in a timely fashion and looked delicious. We both really enjoyed them. Everything tasted great!Throughout the lunch hour it continued to get busy and there were quite a few people there when we left.Pepe was an awesome server and took really good care of us. The lunch prices seemed very reasonable and we commented that we need to come back here for dinner. Overall it was a great experience!

The Dolar Shop – Menu with Prices – 36-36 Prince St 1 floor, Flushing

Tldr: good service; beautiful and classy interior, great for dates; individual pots with different soup bases; don’t order too much meat for veggies, portions are pretty decent and keep in mind that the soup base+sauces are already about $8/person Knowing that there is usually a wait, we came in around 9:20 and they still seated us. Overall, i would say it is a great place for a date or a night out–fine dining and good service. If it is your first time here, they explain the menu items for ya. There is a sauce bar with all the condiments and sauces for you to DIY your own sauce. The sauce bar also comes with what is equivalent to the side dishes in korean cuisine+fruits like cantaloupe and oranges. If you like bone soup: I applaud the spare ribs soup base; it tastes very rich in the bone taste. I grew up drinking bone soup so it is really easy for me to differentiate real bone soup and fake ones. You would def want to drink some of that soup. Also when they add broth, it doesn’t really saturate the bone soup taste which means they are not just adding hot water in there. If you like tomatoes a lot: The tomato oxtail soup also tastes very flavorful–you almost don’t need to dip your food in sauces cuz the tomato soup adds flavor to the food that is boiled within. Food: The quality of the meat is pretty decent, but i don’t know about being excellent quality tho. The portions are also pretty reasonable to the price so definitely don’t order too much. A good rule of thumb would be two meat plates or one meat combo plate for party of 2. You can order half for the veggies too. If you don’t want to accidentally overspend, just make sure you remember that with the soup base and sauce bar there is a minimum of around $8/person on your bill already. I also ordered a glass of fresh watermelon juice–refreshing. Loved it. They also give an ice-cream cone for each person as a little dessert which is great.

Paik’s Noodles – Menu with Prices – 28124 Newhall Ranch Rd, Santa Clarita

This is a review for lunch to-go order on a cold weekday! What I ordered: Beef Jjamppongbap (no spice) Food: The broth was flavorful and PERFECT for a cold and rainy weather. I ended up slurping the soup after I finished eating the noodles and toppings! As what others noted, it has a peppery taste which might not be for everyone. But works for me!! The actual bowl was full of vegetables, beef, and a couple of shrimps. You would get a good amount for each mouthful of noodle and soup! Price: $ CHEAP for the quality and quantity! Parking: It always has ample parking. This is located inside the plaza. Service: For the TO-GO experience only! I like the fact that they didn’t forget the necessities that comes with the order such as utensils and napkins. Plus points for me! Just like ordering a bowl of noodle soup, the broth and noodles/toppings are separated. The noodles I got wasn’t sticking and the veggies seem fresh and not too wilted. However, I would suggest for a bigger bowl for the broth. I had to slurp the soup before putting in the noodles because the bowl was a little shallow to put everything in. It’d be a mess if I just drop all the contents in!! Not to mention it was also hard to mix it in since the to-go bowl is small. WILL COME BACK!!! I will probably order Jajangmyeon during summer time and get the beef soup for winter/cold days. So many items on the menu I’d love to explore!

Pho Bowl Clearwater – Menu with Prices – 1550 N McMullen Booth Rd F4, Clearwater

Since I moved back to Florida three years ago, I’ve been on the hunt for a good bowl of pho similar to the ones i used to eat in California. After trying this place yesterday, my search is over! My daughter and I went here on the recommendation of a friend, and I’m so glad we did. Pho Bowl is located in the same shopping plaza as the CiCi’s Pizza on McMullen Booth Rd. The place is small, but neat, with a few booths along the right side wall and tables filling the rest of the space. When you walk in, you order from the counter, they give you a number, and you go sit down. Water and small cups are provided further down the counter, next to a container of metal chopsticks, spoons for broth, and metal forks and knives. The toppings for your pho, such as the jalapeño and basil leaves are also self-serve, which I really liked. While this could be messier, it also seems less wasteful. On the tables are bottles of Hoisin and Sriracha, but there is soy sauce, chili oil, and another chili sauce on the counter next to the utensils. Small sauce containers and plates are provided for you to take stuff back to your seat. We both ordered the steak pho, mine with no cilantro. I found the broth (with nothing added) to be well-seasoned and flavorful. The meat was also not completely raw in the bowl, which i appreciated. It was slightly pink, but cooked quickly in the soup, and i found it also to be well-seasoned with flavor of its own. There was a decent amount of soup to noodles in the bowl, and I struggled to get through most of it. It wasn’t the biggest portion ever, but there was more than enough to satisfy one’s appetite. I also ordered the fried egg rolls which came out as an appetizer, and were piping hot. They were equally as delicious as everything else. The menu featured several other types of pho, spring rolls, noodle dishes, bahn mi, pork chips, boba tea, and sodas. We waited no longer than 10 minutes for our pho, and were checked on a couple of times by the people who were working the counter. Quite a few people came in to carry out food, especially boba. I’m not a fan of that myself, but my daughter ordered the mango and loved it. By the time we left, there were 4 or 5 other people in there, all with something different. This places offers vegan and vegetarian options, too, which is nice to see. I’ll have to come back to try a few of those items and update my review.

Tavern United Polo Park – Menu with Prices – 1405 St Matthews Ave, Winnipeg

The place was empty on a Friday night. Went with about 10 friends and there was only 2 other tables of two. We order drinks and it takes about 20 minutes to get them. We all order food. My wife and I didnt get our food until 45 minutes after everyone else got theirs. They finally got back to us and said some how our order didnt get processed ( they forgot) they gave my wife a bowl of chips and said we are putting your order in right now. It should be out soon. Meanwhile our whole party is finished eating so. We get our bill at the end of the evening and no comp no discount… nothing. My wife kindly mentioned our wait and if we could get compensation. They gave us a measly 7$ off our 90$ bill. With tip it still came out at 95$ I shouldnt have tipped but it comes as a habit when I go out. But the service was sub par and the serving size was terrible. If I’m paying extra for onion rings I expect more than 6. Would it recommend this location. My home location in Windsor park is 5/5 high recommended by me.

Thai Thai House Palm Bay – Menu with Prices – 215 Palm Bay Rd NE, Melbourne

We went for late lunch, so it wasn’t very busy. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. We ordered the Thai spring rolls for an appetizer, and they were okay, but would have been better with more shrimp or the addition of pork which we are accustom to, also need a little less lettuce replaced with basil. My wife ordered a sushi roll (in picture) she enjoyed it and was surprised by how big it was when it arrived. My daughter ordered the chicken pad Thai (2nd pic), both my wife and I tried some and were pleased with the flavor. I ordered the chicken panang, it tasted great, there was a decent amount of chicken, but it needed more vegetables. It literally had 1 small broccoli floret and 4 small slivers of red bell pepper. The bowl was mostly sauce. My daughter and I had the lunch special which included a bowl of Miso soup for $9.95. not a great price but not awful. My thoughts are Okay food, reasonably priced although I feel for what we got the lunch should’ve been either a dollar less or included a drink. Our service was fast, but it was during a slower part of the day, caution because I have read a few reviews where the service wasn’t so good.

Pho Nhat Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 933 E University Dr, Tempe

I have been to many different Vietnamese restaurants not only here in Arizona but around the world and this one is my favorite. I have been coming here since 2005 and there is a reason why. Everything is Super Fresh including the Pho broth, which may be the best item on the menu. They have a large selection of items for people who don’t like soup but most of the people that come here get the Pho soup of course. If you’re ever sick, you can come in here and grab a bowl of just the broth and trust me, it will definitely make you feel a heck of a lot better. Bone broth is the way to go and they even give you extra spices to really customize the final taste of your soup. The first thing you’ll notice is that this is a very small family-owned business. You may not be greeted immediately when you come in, but you can grab a seat and the owner will typically come out within a moment of hearing the front door open and bring everybody menus. So sometimes you have to wait a little bit longer but waiting 10 minutes for hot fresh soup is no big deal. Do you love coconut water? They will actually give you a whole coconut pre-cut with the spoon inside so you can enjoy coconut meat after you drink all of the water inside. I attached a receipt where a group of five of us went yesterday to go eat. Not only were we all super full but we actually had to take food home with us because there was no way we were going to be able to eat everything unless we sat there digesting our food for another hour. So the Pho, rice noodle soup bowl that is, which I ordered was the number 4, it was meat and I asked for extra veggies to be put inside. For about $10, I was able to enjoy two full bowls of soup, one at the restaurant and one at home this morning. They give you a container for any leftover soup that you want to take home with you. I’ve read some reviews where people don’t seem to enjoy the non soup items but truthfully, I come for the soup, that’s the name of the business, Pho Nhat, and even the other items I’ve had on the menu such as the curry are still pretty good, but soup is the best. I read a review or two where people are describing the soup broth as oily, obviously these people have never cooked bone broth in their life because when you boil bones for hours it does make it appear oily but it really enhances the flavor. In regards to the other Vietnamese restaurants in the valley, sure some of them have a lot more workers, they’re faster and their prices might be better, but I care about the taste more than anything else. At this location, they put taste number one, so if you’re expecting to get your soup in 2 minutes I’m sorry but you’re going to have to wait a few. Small family-owned businesses are definitely the way to go and I have never been disappointed in the nearly fifteen years that I have been coming to this location. Someone once told me that the way you can tell a Vietnamese restaurant is really good is by the customers that come in and this place was full of Asians so you know it’s amazing. You won’t be disappointed.

Tanya’s Country Cafe – Menu with Prices – 4620 Dick Pond Rd, Myrtle Beach

My wife and I decided to try this place after getting a recommendation from the ladies at the Waccatee Zoo. What a pleasant surprise! The restaurant was very clean. The service was excellent. The food as delicious. The lunch prices were very reasonable. My wife had a reuben and fries. I went the country route and ordered chicken and dumplings, fried cabbage, fried okra, pinto beans and cornbread. We each had a drink and the bill was $17.67 including tax. If we were going to be here (Myrtle Beach) longer we would definitely eat here again. We would like to try it for breakfast.

Old Taro Taiwanese Noodle – Menu with Prices – 4370 Thornton Ave, Fremont

One of my (and my mom’s) favorite beef noodle soup places ever! It’s definitely a hole in the wall, so usually on weekdays there is no wait. Occasionally, on weekends during lunch there will be a wait – a lot of families love the lamb hot pots (?), and it’s very family friendly. The place is not big, there are probably only 10 tables total, with 4 seats at each table. The spicy beef noodle soup is so good – it reminds me a lot of beef noodle soups found in Taiwan, and they give 3-4 pieces of meat in each bowl. They also offer the sour mustard greens é?¸è? and hot sauce on the side. Personally, I don’t add anymore hot sauce – it’s spicy enough for me. And recently, they just added “thick” noodles that look like handmade noodles. I love thicker noodles, the texture is much chewier than the original thin noodle. Occasionally, I get the plate of pork ears, since I like to dip them in hot sauce. Price of a bowl of beef noodle soup is $10.25 right now, which is similar to other beef noodle places around Fremont. I come here probably once a week or so, sometimes more. I just got it yesterday for take-out, and I know for a fact I’ll be getting lunch here again in 2 days. The service isn’t amazing, but it’s very efficient. I don’t expect great service at small, family run places like these though. There is no decor, but prices are decent, food is pretty great, and service is efficient. I highly recommend giving the beef noodle soup a try.

Blu Thai Food and Sushi – Menu with Prices – 215 E Walnut St, Des Moines

This is a cute little thai restaurant downtown! Great location and decent looking on the inside. However, I was a little disappointed with the food and service. We ordered the tom yum soup with chicken to start with. The broth was lovely, but that’s all the soup was. It was just a big bowl of broth, with maybe 7-8 small pieces of chicken, the sporadic mushroom, and far too many sliced onions thrown in there. For almost $10 for a large bowl, I kind of felt like I was getting cheated out of my money. We mentioned our disappointment to our waitress, but she just tried to dismiss our complaint and insist that our soup had 8 oz of chicken, which I seriously doubt, but I also did not have a scale to weigh out the chicken myself. I was a little annoyed with how she kept trying to deflect the criticism rather than relay our thoughts to their kitchen. I ordered the chicken drunken noodles, and it was alright. It was decent food, but nothing to write home about. The wide rice noodles were good, and there was a good variety of vegetables in my dish. I was pleasantly surprised that I was not cheated out of my chicken this time! I like how when you order, they ask you to choose your spice level on a scale of 1-5. I went for a 2, and found that to be just the right amount of spice. Another person in my group ordered a rice dish, but requested a spice level of 0 and asked for them to put the spice on the side. They did just that, and gave her a gigantic pot of chili oil on the side. The thing is, their chili oil has no distinct flavor other than burn-your-mouth-off hot. I tried a small amount and my mouth was on fire for a very long time afterwards. I do not recommend going this route for spice. I found this place to be pretty mediocre and would probably choose a different Thai place in DSM next time where I can get a little more bang for my buck!

El Coyote Ramen Bar – Menu with Prices – 1 W Victory Dr, Savannah

First ramen only bar in Savannah. I was really excited when I first heard about it because there are no dedicated ramen places in the area. Finally I got to try it on a Sunday late afternoon. The place is tiny but they have outdoor patio seating available. They have everything pre-made so basically they just need to put the bowl ingredients together. For the same reason, the service is fast and the people working are friendly. You can create your own bowl but I decided to get their speciality bowl – Chicken Shoyu. It was good, I liked how my broth tasted but there wasn’t enough broth in the bowl. I also got a side of Kimchi, which I decided to put in my bowl and it added more flavor to the broth. My friend got the Pork Tonkotsu but I liked mine better. The tonkotsu broth was lacking flavor. Overall, this place is average but they definitely have the potential to be better.

Rita Marie’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 605 E Holland Ave #116, Spokane

This place is probably a 3.5 but since the rating system only allows while numbers, I had to give it a 3. It’s not a 4 star. Unless we are talking about their beef barley soup then it’s a solid 4. We went and lunch time and my husband got their special which was Fried Chicken homemade mashed potatoes and gravy and vegetables. They said we could either have a half or a whole chicken. My husband asked what that meant and they said it was a half a chicken breast. I wondered how they would do this and was surprised to see a breaded chicken breast literally cut in half instead of cutting it in half first then reading it and cooking it they took the whole piece of chicken and cut it in half after it was cooked. The chicken was dry and tasteless. The mashed potatoes did not seem homemade of to smooth. Finally the vegetables were okay at best there is just some squash on a plate. My daughter and I ordered the sandwich special. it was a half a croissant with chicken salad and either salad or soup on the side. I got a salad was Asian noodle salad it was not very good although the dressing was yummy my daughter got the tomato basil and she said it was more tomato than it was basil I did not taste it so it’s hard for me to speak to that. I did get a cup of beef barley soup because it sounded really good and it was the only saving grace out of the meal. The establishment is clean the staff is very friendly and the prices are average to above-average, depending on what you order. The soup and sandwich combo was $7 and they gave you a very nice sized soup. Salad with what the sandwich was a pretty decent size as well. The special cost $7 I think that that is excessive for a half a chicken breast a small scoop of mashed potatoes and a few pieces of vegetable. The full chicken breast would it cost $10. Bottom line, if it’s a cold wintry day and you’re looking for a good hearty soup I would go grab a bowl of soup from them otherwise I would give this place a pass.
