Cute little place, girl at counter was nice. Despite the fact we arrived 40 mins before closing, majority of the chairs were stacked and there was a lot of cleaning going on right next to our table. Not sure why that couldn’t wait until after we left. Regarding the food – yikes. Mexican food with absolutely no spice. I should have known it was going to disappoint when I saw that someone took off and left almost an entire meal uneaten at the next table. Another reviewer said this is like Filiberto’s with a bar….I beg to differ as the food at Filliy B’s actually has some zing. Everything here is syrupy sweet. Green salsa? Sweet. Red salsa? Sweet. Fish tacos? Sweet. Enchiladas? Take a wild guess. Not authentic at all. No heat in anything. I’m not sure if this place is affiliated with Tia Rosa’s but it sure tastes like it. If you like that kind of Mexican food you’ll like this. If not, skip this place.

Tocayo Taqueria & Tequila – Menu with Prices – 810 Ivy St, Pittsburgh

I really really really wanted to like Tocayo, Walnut is desperate for more diverse food options, and I had really high hopes for Tocayo, but after stopping in for a meal on Friday night my hopes were completely dashed. This is quite possibly the least flavorful Mexican food I have ever ordered (outside of Mad Mex, which doesn’t even earn the label of Mexican food). Let’s start with the appetizers. We went with the chips and salsa, opting for the hot salsa and the queso. I actually quite liked the queso, and while the hot salsa had a bit of a nice smokey flavor, it was most definitely *not* hot, and otherwise super bland. Ok, next up, let’s discuss the tacos. Absolutely zero flavor. We did the barbacoa and the al pastor, and while the al pastor was marginally better than the barbacoa, the barbacoa like the salsa had zero flavor. The tacos needed a serious dose of cilantro, lime, and spice, and there was zero heat to the barbacoa. Honestly, and it hurts me to say this, Chipotle’s barbacoa has more flavor. They were also way over stuffed, and why do entrees at a Mexican restaurant come with a side salad? Super weird. Finally, the drinks. We had two margaritas, and they were, as the story continues, pretty uninspired (far too sweet and syrupy, not enough savory). Only a small portion of the cups were rimmed with salt, and that barely saved them. Despite the very lackluster and disappointing food, the staff were insanely nice and the service was top notch. Shout out to the bartender who was both waiting tables and making drinks, give this man a promotion! It could be that the kitchen is still working through things or that they were just swamped the night we came in. As I love Mexican food, I’ll swing through again in a few weeks and see if the food is has improved!

Fiesta Grill & Catering – Menu with Prices – 418 17th St, Huntington Beach

I’ve lived in HB for about ten years and have settled on this place as my overall go-to for authentic home cooking style Mexican. Everything tastes like it’s made from scratch. The refrieds are some of the best I’ve ever had. I’m pretty picky about chicken dishes and have never once found any fat or skin like I’ve experienced in other places. The only thing I don’t like is the salsa and chips. This is just a matter of personal taste though. Their salsa is very chunky and chips are very thin. Other people I’ve been there with love it. There are a lot of choices for Mexican food around here but this one is overall the best.

Taqueria El Crucero – Menu with Prices – 2505 N Robinson Dr, Waco

Menu is on the wall by the cash register. $.50 extra charge for credit card purchases. The woman behind the counter is very matter of fact and not so friendly, get your order straight and get on your way. We ordered chips and salsa and guac. 3 cheese pupusas, 3 red enchiladas. Green bottle is the hot, red is the mild salsa. The salsa verde has some heat to it. The guac is super creamy but tastes decent. The cashier brought out our guac and made sure I wanted cheese on top of my enchiladas. She warmed up as we waited for our food and was quite attentive. The salsa isn’t bad, both the red and green. They will bring out more chips if needed as long as you order the chips and guac. The 3 chicken tacos, 3 cheese pupusas and 3 soyrizo Red enchiladas was $24.86. This small spot is deceptively good. We enjoyed everything and their quesadilla was so much bigger than we thought. The soyrizo red enchiladas were so yummy and the chicken tacos were tasty too. Good spot for some authentic Mexican or pupusas. Doesn’t look like much from the outside and inside but the flavors and food are well worth the visit.

Antojitos Clemente – Menu with Prices – 210 W 1st St #111, Santa Ana

The staff is very friendly and welcoming – great customer service! I wanted to love this place because the reception was warm and kind and also because I noticed that they aren’t they type to nickle and dime you like other places that charge you extra to use a credit card. The food wasn’t very good. I ordered chicken taquitos with rice and beans. The chicken was dry and bland, it had a mild tomatoe based salsa. It was not hot and spicy as expected from an authentic Mexican eatery. I didn’t receive any side container of salsa which would’ve helped the bland taquitos. I did let them know that I like hot sauce and they said the salsa on and under the taquitos was a mix of red and green salsa but it wasn’t. The rice was not Mexican style. Instead it was a very undercooked rice pilaf with an unpleasant flavor and was the last thing I expected from a Mexican place. The beans tasted a bit like they were slightly burned but the cotija cheese helped cover it up a bit. The prices were reasonable but only if the food would’ve tasted good. I ended up throwing away the rice and beans. I would be willing to go back to give them another chance only because the service was pleasant and that is harder to find these days.

Mimi’s Restaurant Menu with Prices 1400 Ross St, Amarillo

I’ll say from the onset, I’m a gringo…but I love Mexican food a lot. Stumbled upon this place the other night and we were the only ones in the place. Ordering is a bit of a challenge as the menu is all in Spanish with no descriptions or prices. (I figured the prices were pretty cheap, which they were.) We wound up getting beef tacos (crispy shells not available), horchata (think of a long, oval tostada) and cheese enchiladas. My wife said the enchiladas were VERY good. The horchata was BIG and pretty tasty. The “steak” in the tacos was quite bland. There’s a huge selection of traditional Mexican drinks and several popular beers – Mexican and domestic. They don’t have guacamole or the typical “salsa”…just a very spicy green tomatillo dipping sauce. The staff was very nice and accommodating. They’ve been in business for 11 years, so they’re doing something right. There’s also an odd collection of Mexican gifts to be purchased. Overall, it was an interesting dining experience, but I’ll probably not go back. It’s just a bit to “authentic” for my tastes.

Toshi’s Teriyaki – Menu with Prices – 305 SE Everett Mall Way # 16, Everett

Go to Mill Creek instead! I’m a die hard Toshi’s fan and frequent the Mill Creek location regularly. This Everett location has nothing in common with it except the name. Even the menu is different. I am very disappointed with the sub par teriyaki I just had from this Everett location. The chicken was obviously in a warmer instead of cooked fresh; it wasn’t tender or juicy. I was shocked at how fast my food was ready, and I realized this is why. The rice was gummy and seemed like it had been sitting awhile too. The sauce tastes like it’s from a bottle, very syrupy. This is the kind of teriyaki that you get from any average strip mall or food court. But if you want really friggin good teriyaki made by a pro (Toshi himself), skip this one and go to Mill Creek. I was hoping the other locations were the same menu and the same recipes, even if Toshi isn’t the one cooking. But now that I know the name is just the name. Two stars for friendly service and a clean dining area.

TACO-BOOK Taqueria – Menu with Prices – 1130 Broadway C, Everett

This friendly, very casual eatery serves inexpensive, authentic Mexican fare. We had tacos, which are on the small side, but at $1.50 each, who’s complaining? They’re soft tortilla tacos containing the meat of your choice, topped with perfectly diced onion and cilantro, and lime on the side. Regardless of your order, they bring bottles of hot green and red salsa to your table with the food. For affordable Mexican food, this place might be the best in Everett.

Hidalgo Mexican Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 3845 N Garland Ave #200, Garland

My wife and I stopped by on a Sunday in order to experience a small Mexican joint. Sadly, theyâ??re closed on Sundays. We returned 5 days later and we are so glad that we did. THIS is authentic, affordable and delicious Mexican food. I loved the green enchiladas and my wife devoured a fajita quesadilla. The chips/salsa that we ordered were freshly prepared- very warm and crunchy with a delicious homemade unique salsa. Only about 8 tables in the place so you might seek an early dinner in order to avoid crowds. We had a 330pm late lunch. Iâ??m going to return to sample their breakfast. The server and manager were so kind and friendly. Please support this neighborhood business if you live in the North Garland/Richardson area.

Tsaocaa Florida – Menu with Prices – 10150 Beach Blvd unit 7, Jacksonville

To start off I just have to compliment the interior design of this cafe… so so cute and perfect for taking photos! The pretty pink walls are complimented by the cute cactus plants, adorable heart/ marble seating and tables, and also the big bubble chair (lol idk what it’s called) make every part of the cafe picture perfect. The line was quite long both times I went but it was expected since it’s the newest and cutest cafe in Jax so a lot of people of all ages are coming. – Onto the menu stuff… * Colorful Fruits Green Tea {$5.50}: Very refreshing and tastes kind of like a fruit punch drink although I tasted more of the passionfruit + orange flavor in it, overall 4/5 * Passionfruit & Lime Green Tea {$4.95}: Tastes very similar to the Colorful Fruits Green Tea except it’s slightly more sour and the passionfruit flavor is more propionate in this drink, overall 5/5 * Cocoa Bubble Milk {$4.75}: Tasted just like water mixed with some cocoa powder tbh, not sweet at all. Not really a distinctive chocolatey taste like I thought, overall 1/5 * Strawberry Green Tea with Milk Foam {$5.25}: MY FAVORITE DRINK by far, if you like sweet drinks this is the one for you! Super sweet and even though I don’t enjoy strawberries that much, I got it since it was very pretty and I’m not disappointed at all. Once you start finishing the drink, the cheese milk foam is kind of mixed together with bits of strawberries and crushed iced and it’s like a sweet crunchy whip cream flavor, definitely 5/5 * Brown Sugar Milk Tea {$4.95}: Another sugary sweet drink as well, tastes like a standard milk tea just a lot sweeter and the boba was very chewy but I liked it, overall 5/5 * Watermelon Green Tea with Crystal Foam {$5.55}: Although I love watermelon, this drink kind of wasn’t for me, tasted exactly like a watermelon except that it’s flavor was kind of washed down in a way… less sweet and texture is mushy, overall 3/5 – Like I said before you must take pics at such a cute place like this, and it would helpful if a big menu was set up somewhere instead of the paper menus at the front to help ordering go through faster though, but overall definitely coming back and checking out some more drinks!

La Poblanita – Menu with Prices – 273 Academy Ave, Providence

O…M…G!!! Most legit Latino grocery and food stand I’ve been to since moving to RI almost one year ago. After seeing the food pics on Yelp, I just had to try it out. Hubby and I ended up going up to Providence from Newport; even though it took almost an hour to get there, the trip was worth it! It was everything I remember about Latino grocery stores when I was growing up and picked up a few Mexican goodies that I haven’t seen elsewhere in RI so far. But let’s talk about the food… They served all kinds of Mexican dishes such as tacos, tortas, and a green pozole that’s typical from the Mexican state of Guerrero (it’s just south of Mexico City). I ended up trying the pozole and a couple of carne asada tacos…YUM! I’ve had pozole many times before but this was first time trying the Guerrero-style green version; and while it doesn’t pack as much heat as the red one, it was still flavorful and enjoyed every spoonful. The asada tacos were decent but the homemade spicy green salsa that was on the table made them 100 times better. I’ve read previous reviews about the al pastor tacos so that’s on my to-try list for next time. I’m bummed this place (or that neighborhood for that matter) isn’t closer to me, but gives me an excuse to venture out to Providence more often.

La Playa Seafood Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 7446 Alameda Ave, El Paso

El paso are you looking for the most bang for your buck? Then look no further than going to LaPlaya seafood in the lower valley. The staff is very friendly and our waitress recomended the lunch special which has something for everyone. As soon as we’re seated homemade chips and salsa arrived, the red salsa is tasty and the green salsa had some kick but just the right amount of kick.Soup of the day was lentil soup and it was very filling and full of flavor among the lentils are finely chopped celery, onions, tomatoes and garnished with fresh cilantro hot fresh and very comforting. After that my Filet Veracruz arrived and boy they did not skip on anything with a side of rice, salad, and mashed potatoes it was definitely a plateful. The filet was covered oin a rich tomato sauce with carrots and green olives the fish was cooked to perfection. When dessert arrived I was stuffed but managed to eat my peaches. Now this is truly a great deal all this for $6.99 so you get great service , clean tables abd really great staff I will be back and can’t wait to try another dish.

El Bajio Mexican Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 555 Gateway Pl SW Suite A, Cedar Rapids

The reviews, the location (it was directly across the street from the hotel) and the fact that I was craving Mexican helped me to choose El Bajio. I went in and was immediately seated. I thought I was at a rock concert it was so loud in the place. Kids everywhere screaming, yelling, chanting, whatever little kids do they were doing it. I decided to block it out and breathe in the El Bajio experience. My server was prompt, although very rushed so I ordered quickly and he was gone. I decided to get the combination platter as it was the cheapest with the most food (taco, burrito, enchilada, rice and beans). I asked about modifying the burrito by putting green sauce instead of cheese on it and he said no problem. While I waited for my meal, I at the chips and salsa. While I liked the chips, the salsa was not my favorite. Something tasted off about it. Not that it was spoiled; it was just a flavor I didn’t enjoy. Good thing my food came promptly or I would have started in on the salsa. I was surprised it came so quickly as they were extremely busy; however there was no green sauce. I couldn’t really say anything because they were so busy, I was hungry and the noise was drying me mad…so I ate it. The food was okay. Nothing out of this world. It was typical Mexican food. What was amazing though was the price. This must be the reason they are so busy as it was the cheapest dinner I have had in a long time for the amount of food I got.
