I love me some bubble tea! I’ve always passed by this particular boba store so I thought today was the day to try it out and I am glad I did. I got my usual Thai milk tea with boba no ice. There was a good boba to tea ratio for a large. The Thai tea flavor wasn’t as strong as I’ve had it at other bubble tea places so that was a bit of a let down because I like it to be more strong, it wasn’t overly creamy, however wasn’t watery either. I would preferred it to be a little bit more creamy but the level it was at was average. What I absolutely loved was the sugar level, I absolutely HATE it when my tea is too sweet to the point where you can’t even taste the tea, but this had the perfect amount without me even asking to lower the sugar level! The boba itself was a let down, I felt like half of them were nicely cooked and chewy while the other half was undercooked and had a stale center. Overall the tea was nice to drink, but the some of the partly uncooked/stake boba was not pleasant. I got the coconut smoothie for my mom, We had asked for the avocado but sadly they were out, why not branch out she thought. I had a couple of sips to try it out. There was a very very faint taste of coconut, it almost tasted like having a very watered down coconut water. Yes I know it was in a smoothie so a solid 90% of it is pure ice but it would’ve been a lot better if it had a stronger coconut flavor. That being said the flavor that was there didn’t have an artificial/syrupy coconut flavor to it, it tasted pretty clean which was a redeeming quality. I personally thought it should’ve been a little bit more sweet, but my mom seemed to enjoy the sugar level as it was. It also had a lot of dried coconut shaving bits, we both were a bit annoyed by that since it felt rough and grainy, if the shavings were larger and more chewable the experience would’ve been better. The boba had similar consistency to the one in the Thai tea. Overall this is not drink I would get again. I would probably come back to this bubble tea shop just to tryout other drinks (one being the avocado smoothie) to see if I find anything particularly amazing. **sadly did not remember to take a pic of the coconut smoothie, but to describe it I would say it was 100% artic white with boba on the bottom, with an icy consistency **

Marshall Donuts & Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 3144 N E St, San Bernardino

I always go here for the Thai Iced Tea with Boba. Super yummy. The boba is always soft and chewy and never hard. It kind of almost feels like it melts in your mouth. The Thai iced tea is always sweet but not too sweet. Honestly the best Thai iced tea I’ve ever had like nothing can compare. Showed my family this place and they love it as well. Honestly, I’ve never tried anything else from this place except the green tea smoothie and the strawberry and banana smoothie. I’ve only tried the green tea smoothie once and I did not like it. I just felt like it didn’t have any flavor like it wasn’t sweet at all. Maybe it was just that time I don’t know. The strawberry banana smoothie is also suppppppper yummy.

Chatime Ann Arbor Menu with Prices 340 Maynard St, Ann Arbor

Coming from the Bay Area (NorCal), I’m pretty spoiled with having an authentic Bubble Tea experience. We take this pretty seriously! When I first moved to MI, Ann Arbor had a very low presence of a legit bubble tea bar. It was pretty much localized in mom-pop stores which still tasted great, but lacked the variety of tea and toppings I’m used to. There are a couple of options like Coco, Sweeting, or Bubble Island, all served mediocre bubble tea at best. To me, their drinks overall lacked personality. It’s inconsistent, where at times the drinks are too bland, or too syrupy, or the boba is still in its powdery form (ew). When Chatime opened it reminded me A LOT of the bubble tea cafes in CA. It almost has the same feeling as walking into a Gong Cha, or a Quickly, or a Share Tea (if you know, YOU KNOW). It is Taiwan-based, so you know it’s going to be good. I was very excited and had a lot of expectations. Their menu (10/10) showcased variety and creativity. I am VERY happy they have both the mustache and the QQ series. You can tell a modern bubble tea cafe from an old one based on the presence of these two series. There’s pretty much two drinks that I order to baseline how well a bubble tea cafe is ran: Jasmine Green Milk Tea (JGMT) and Passion Fruit (Black or Green) Tea. I ordered the JGMT with boba and foam (the mustache) with normal sugar and 50% ice. The mustache was awesome (it has a salty, cheesy, sweet combination) and goes very well with milk teas. The boba was classic, not too sweet, not too bland, BUT FULLY COOKED. I’m not exactly sure if they serve honey boba, I couldn’t really tell. They give you a generous amount of boba, and they still have a good supply available even when you come near closing time. A lot of CA bubble tea places don’t do this! Appreciate! The quality of the tea is great. What I did notice after coming several times, is the consistency of how the drink is made. The “normal” sugar option varied immensely per order of the SAME DRINK. I’ll let it go and hopefully it’ll improve over time with more practice. I mean this is AA’s first legit boba cafe after all. The Passion Fruit Black Tea with rainbow jelly is what got us hooked. Not gonna spoil it for you, just try it. My favorite would be the Mango Slushie with boba. My favorite version of this drink is served by Gong Cha. ChaTime came really close to making this drink to perfection. My only slight complaint is that whenever I order the Mango Slushie, they freak out and put a dome lid. The sealed film actually still works for slushies. I prefer it since I like to mix my boba throughout the drink before enjoying it. Eh, it’s the small things. Overall, I’m satisfied with the place. Consistency with the drink-preps can be better. The prices are decent and inexpensive. This place has potential with a lot of improvements. BUT it’s hella better than the ones on South U. I give ChaTime a 3.8/5.

7 Leaves Cafe – Menu with Prices – 18547 S Western Ave, Torrance

Based on the previous yelp reviews and all the hype about this chain, I thought 7 leaves cafe would be my new go-to place. Sadly, this place fell below expectations. The venue is small, with a long table and a bench. its mainly a grab and go place. They offer a decent selection of milk teas including Jasmin, Oolong, and Taro Milk Tea. They also serve strawberry croissants which looked good, and macarons. However, I just wanted the drinks, so I went for the Assam Milk Tea, which according to the menu is “black tea carefully balanced with real sugar and milk” and the Jasmin Milk Tea with the option “lightly sweetened with honey boba,” for my mom. the service is good, I got my drinks within minutes of ordering and then I left. But the downside is that the drinks were loaded with sugar. Now, if you are reading this and love sweet drinks, then this would be the place for you. Sadly this place doesn’t allow you to adjust the sugar levels. I tried getting both drinks with no sugar and they said the most they can do is make it “lightly sweetened” So I did that for the Jasmin Milk Tea. Sadly, the this store and I have different definitions for the words “lightly sweetened.” The Assam Milk tea was supposed to have this bold flavor of black tea, but that was negligible when doused with a concentrated amount of sugar. To top it off, I think they were out of boba and didn’t tell me or somehow confused the word “boba” with “Aloe Vera” because I ended up with a Jasmin Milk Tea with Aloe Vera instead of Honey Boba. We ended up throwing the drinks away. So, I will try and come back just for the pastries. While they offer stamp cards, I doubt I’ll be back for the drinks anytime soon.

Phi Coffee & Tea – Menu with Prices – 3212 N Jupiter Rd Ste 115, Garland

This isn’t your standard boba shop. This is definitely much more of a coffee shop type place than somewhere to get your milk tea craving satisfied – actually, you can’t even get milk tea here. Which I thought was interesting. I asked the employee what he suggested getting since I had never been there before but still wanted to try something. He told me the most popular drink was the Thai green tea, which sounded pretty tasty since I’m a huge fan of matcha! He definitely did not steer me wrong – I really enjoyed the drink. If you’re a fan of Thai tea and matcha, this is the drink for you. It’s milky like Thai tea, semi-sweet, and filled with matcha flavor goodness. I would have given this place 4 stars had the boba been better made. It was extremely bland and way too chewy. I like my boba to be in between the consistency of soft and chewy, but unfortunately, I was chewing for too long on these little balls. There was also zero flavor, so if you just got a mouthful of boba and no tea, you’re stuck just chewing on flavorless jelly balls. It was odd. The manager also needs to staff their employees better because there was only one visible employee making all the drinks and I saw one employee in the back probably working on food orders. The poor guy was clearly overwhelmed with all the orders coming in so please cut your employees some slack and give them as much help as needed for the demand!

Vivi Bubble Tea – Menu with Prices – 325 Coneflower Dr, Garland

Boba/bubble tea fans will know that Vivi is competing in a saturated market. These days, there’s a bubble tea spot on practically every street corner, so to stand out, you have to offer something special or provide great customer service. Vivi Bubble Tea does both of those things. Their basic milk tea flavors are done very well, but they also have the most refreshing citrusy drink known as the Blue Galaxy, which looks and sounds as good as it tastes. This and their other unique drinks will make you drive right past more convenient bubble tea locations just to have it. Their tiny little shop is sometimes understaffed, but the staff who does work there are very polite. Plus, their drinks have more authentic flavor to them than Kung Fu tea (which despite its name does not even offer jasmine tea. What’s up with that?). Another comparison to Kung Fu tea, and the only reason they get 4 stars, is this place doesn’t offer the option to customize the sweetness of your drink (unlike Kung Fu tea). Their default sweetness level is ok-IMO, they do not over-sweeten their drinks- but if you’re one of those people who is sensitive to sugar, you may find this lack of control disappointing.

Lucky Koi Bubble Tea – Menu with Prices – 3216 Main St, Buffalo

I love that there’s a bubble tea spot closer to where I live now! It’s a cute little spot located near UB South. The decor is modern, clean, and cute. Service is good and pricing is average. You can only order 1 size. You can pick from 4 different tea types: white, green, oolong, and black. Unfortunately there are no nondairy milk options ? hopefully in the future they can accommodate by adding coconut milk, almond milk, or soybean milk as an option. But for now, lactose intolerants have to get the fruit teas. I got a mangosteen fruit tea. Mangosteen is my favorite fruit so I had high expectations but unfortunately it did not meet it. The flavor was ok, didnt taste like it to me. Maybe because there wasn’t much flavor or syrup in it. It kinda tasted like it’s watered down. My husband got a taro coconut smoothie. He said flavor was good but the smoothie was not blended well. It was still icey/chunky. My friend got a mango dragon fruit smoothie and hers was probably the best tasting one! Perfect amount of sweetness. Also, the actual bobas were a bit chewy, they could have been cooked a little longer. But they had a great taste that most bobas normally don’t. It kinda tasted like sweet caramel! They definitely have potential so I’m looking forward to trying it again if they fix these little details. But they make all the difference between other cafes!

KING KONG MILKTEA AND JUICE Menu with Prices 800 N Main St, Alpharetta

Overall…pretty good! Just from being in the area we’ve noticed there wasn’t many bubble tea shops close by. I absolutely love Tea Top in Chamblee, but it is a ~20min drive from Alpharetta. So we were pleasantly surprised to find a tea shop close by. Service: pretty minimal talking since we just ordered and sat down in a booth. The two girls were very quick with making the drink orders. Drinks: I got the Royal Black Milk Tea with boba. I guess I’m a little spoiled by Tea Top since I’m used to being asked if I want to adjust my sugar or ice level. Which is fine. My drink was a little sweeter than I would’ve liked, but still good and not too watered down. The boba in my drink did have an almost toasty taste(?) that was a little different from what I’m used to. I actually liked how the boba wasn’t that saturated in syrup so it didn’t sweeten the drink anymore. We also ordered the KK signature that was actually a bit sweeter than mine and had a more floral taste to it. Not bad for our first time. I do want to come back and try the sugarcane juice since you don’t find that option choice in other tea shops. Interior: it’s a decent spot to come to get some work done. The booths have outlet plugs and cushioned seating so if you’re sitting for a while this is where you would want to be. They had board games and such so that you can hang with friends, but I didn’t see too much up at the front. 4/5 – because it was pretty good for it being so close by. Im curious about the other drinks so that makes me want to return eventually

Boba Smoothies – Menu with Prices – 4916 Center St, Tacoma

I got there shortly after they opened on a Sunday so needless to say the place was not busy. It’s in a quaint little shopping center near a gas station. Oddly enough there is a Pho Tai in the same shopping center & a Fresh Rolls across the street that also offer bubble teas. The lady at the counter genuinely greeted me when I entered, which doesn’t seem to be a thing anymore with most businesses. So it was nice to see that she genuinely appreciated the business. She asked if I had any questions about the menu which was pretty big on the two TV screens mounted on the wall. After I had my questions answered and ordered she got straight to work on my barbecue flavored waffle fries. I wish more people offered waffle fries because the only other place I’ve seen them is at Chick-Fil-A. The dining area is small and scarcely decorated and just enough room for about 5-7 groups of people. They also have a foosball table if you want to keep busy while you wait or if you’re just hanging out at the bubble tea joint on a Friday night. The counter space is vibrant in color and has all the items you’d need like ketchup, sriracha, mustard, forks, napkins, bubble tea straws, etc. The mountains of multi flavored gelatos peer out at you through the glass of the ice cream freezer by the counter as you wait for your order to be completed. My green apple smoothie with boba and coconut jellies came up first and it was perfect. Blended just right. You know how sometimes other businesses don’t blend it all the way and the ice isn’t fine enough or worse yet, you have chunks of ice in the cup. Let’s just say this was not like that. The flavor was pretty awesome too. I kind of wish the large size was larger because half of the cup was the boba and coconut jellies so I didn’t feel like I got enough actual bubble tea. The waffle fries were decent. Nothing overly remarkable but great to fill up my stomach. I did think it was kind of cool that you could add flavors to your fried items so they didn’t end up being plain Jane. The prices were…ok….about $11 for a large bubble tea with two additions and waffle fries with one flavor additions. The additions are what get you! I’ll definitely come back to try the gelatos because good gelato is hard to find. This place is worth checking out though.

Tastea Garden Grove – Menu with Prices – 10189 Westminster Ave, Garden Grove

This was an okay place. I ordered the avocado smoothie and it was very apparent that they had put some of the shell of the avocado into the mix and I had bits and bits and bits and bits of the shell in every sip of my drink. Actually, you know what? I am not even sure if they used an actual avocado since most boba drinks are powder. So, I had no idea what I was crunching on… Crunch, crunch, crunch. I really hoped that wasn’t a bug. What I could vouch for is that they do make the drinks really fast. Superhuman speed. Well. That was more of a exaggeration but I couldn’t do any faster myself is what I am trying to say. Maybe I feel inferior to these small boba stores because… I don’t even know how to make one myself. I guess boba shops just put syrup, sugar, water, and some little “milk tea” flavoring powder into making the drink. But who knows? I can only boil water and buy milk from the store. I kind of feel worthless knowing that, but that is okay… Countless of other people are also buying boba themselves, so I feel A-OK. You know, now that I think about it, I just buy boba drinks to escape from reality. I really don’t finish these drinks at all. I just take a few sips and then become sad and depressed after. I really don’t know what I wanna do with my life. Maybe I should open a boba store. So I can have a few sips every hour. A little bit of happiness every hour. Honestly, maybe I will become fat after drinking so many… I mean, I know I will slowly become fat after I reach menopause. But that doesn’t matter, men judge me all the time of my appearance and I just feel so numb to judgement. I don’t try to argue back on anything of the matter because I know that men, specially white men, will always try to win the argument and it’s just no use anymore. Do you know what it feels like to be alone and depressed with a bad batch of boba? It feels like you don’t know what to feel anymore.

It’s Boba Time – Menu with Prices – 136 S Brand Blvd, Glendale

We were craving boba and happened to be in the area we decided to stop by Boba Time for a couple drinks. The line was extremely long but we decided to wait it out. We ordered the Strawberry Matcha & Mango Peach Smoothie. My Strawberry Matcha drink wasn’t good, it tasted very watered down, not sweet enough, and barely had any strawberry flavor once it was all mixed together. Definitely not comparable to Boba Guys’ Strawberry Matcha Latte if you’ve ever had it. I would say the boba helped add sweetness to the drink, otherwise it would’ve been very bland and not much of a pleasure to drink. I would probably try a different drink next time if I was in the area and wanted boba again. The Mango Peach Smoothie tasted like your average Mango Peach Smoothie at other boba spots. Nothing too special about it but it tasted way better than the Strawberry Matcha.

Tokyo Teriyaki & Wok – Menu with Prices – 7405 Hardeson Rd #D, Everett

Never going back here. I work close by and have come here several times a month for bubble tea. I prefer a place by my home in Marysville (teryaki point) but since this is by my work I settle. My bubble tea is never blended well so the coffe powder is an extreme taste. Today I got my usual bubble tea with extra tapioca. The tapioca was clumped in a ball and I drank half of my drink till I was able to get tapioca. By the time I got to it, it was disgusting and falling apart. Usually boba is chewy and delicious but not this. Very gross. I told the woman my issue and she said the people in back told her it was fine. They held up the container and it was all smushed in the corner. I watched the man hold one in his had and smeared it across his fingers. THATS NOT NORMAL that happens when it’s old! She said they make it fresh every day. She kept saying she could re make it without boba or with jelly I told her no if I wanted that then I would have ordered that. The whole point of getting the drink with extra boba is for the damn boba. I spoke with her for a while and she took my drink away… I did not get my money back either. My ride had been waiting 20 minutes I had to leave. I spent 5$ on literaly nothing. Also 5$ is alot for bubble tea I’ve never spent more then 3.25$.

Thai Diamond Bar.B.Q. – Menu with Prices – 9581 Foothill Blvd, Rancho Cucamonga

Ordered some thai food via grub hub from here. Food came in a timely fashion. I ordered the following: 1. Thai bbq pork spare ribs- these were good. Large pieces. Tender. Flavoring though was so so, wish it was bolder or spicier. But it fell more on the bland side. But I do appreciate the tenderness of it. 2. Garlic and pepper beef- thinly sliced beef. On the tender side as well. But flavors were really lacking. Couldn’t taste the garlic at all. A good amount of beef though compared to peppers. 3. Fillet of fish in mint leaves- not spicy at all. Ok size fish pieces. Fish was cooked well. 4. Coconut soup- this soup made my review go from a solid 3 star to a 4 star review. You get some thai places, where there coconut soup is just so spicy, it’ll burn your mouth. Some places are just so spicy it actually detracts from the flavor. Yes this one was about a 4/10 on my spicy level, but it really allowed me to taste all the flavors. The coconut, the lemon grass, the depths of flavors. It was a flavor explosion in my mouth!! I had it with chicken, which was tender and delicious. I can see myself ordering this soup on a cold night or if I’m under the weather. It was truly one of the best thai coconut soup I’ve ever had!!! Overall I didnt actually go in so there’s an aspect of this place I didn’t experience, but I definitely wouldn’t mind coming in to try other traditional thai dishes such as their pad thai, fried rice, and definitely their coconut soup again!!
