Once, long ago, in a lifetime way too far, far away, I was actually young and alive. Back then I was very rebellious. I listened to loud music. I drank and debauched. I drove too fast. I had impure thoughts about…. most every woman I met. And then there was that time I leaf-shamed a head of romaine lettuce at a vegetarian restaurant. Damn!! Those Veg-heads got all in a snit; tried to beat me to death with their bok choy! I still suffer PTSD because of it. Now that I’m old, married with daughter, I no longer fear death. So, decided to go veggie for Friday dinner. After all, it’s almost like eating real food. My wife chose this place: Vietnamese vegetarian owned by a white, I mean Caucasian, sorry– European-American guy, who I’m assuming has a bit of a fetish for the Asian ladies. (I can certainly relate.) It’s a typical diner type place, decorated in a mish mosh Vietnamese/Buddhist motif. Part of a small strip mall with surprisingly large parking spaces. (You’ll understand if you frequent Asian shopping areas.) Girlz Cafe is right next door, a Vietnamese coffee shop, where the girls dress in pasties and not much else. (I’ve never been, since I’m not sure where you put the tip. Not a lot of cleavage to work with!!) Arrived a little before 6, luxuriantly-sized parking space right in front of the door. Place is open and airy. Seated in a booth. Had the place to ourselves, other than a group celebrating a bday. Extensive menu of typical Vietnamese: 27 variations of each dish. Took awhile, but finally ordered an app, three dishes and some drinks. Total bill $36. Not bad. Hard to rate vegetables, but I’ll give it the ol’ Elite 2019 try! Um…. food was ok, service was ok. Parking was luxuriant, as mentioned. So, for the parking I’ll raise my 3.5 up to 4 stars!! I don’t get vegetarians, they’re anti-meat, yet all the dishes are “vegan-chicken” or “vegan-pork” or “vegan-fish” etc, etc. Some restaurants even go to the extreme of making it look like a fish or whatever. Dudes! You want meat!! Admit it! Guilt’s so 1640s!!

Mekong Market – Menu with Prices – 747 Main St, Worcester

This is considered to be one of the most popular Vietnamese grocery store in Worcester. This grocery store has gone through many changes throughout the years. They used to be located a block away from here in a tiny store back in the 1980’s. In the 90’s they expanded the store and grew their operations into another building. The grocery store has a airport hangar type of feeling similar to going to BJ’s or Costco. You can find almost every type of Southeast Asian food here, from fresh banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) to frozen boxes of imported squid. They also have a fresh fish market in the back. They will even descale the fish for you unlike most fish markets. This place also sell various types of Asian cookware and other household needs. Parking here can be a challenge since they have a tiny off street parking lot. The parking lot is situated at a 20 degree angle so you might want to be careful of runaway shopping carts hitting your car. Street parking is also hard to find here since you are in downtown Worcester. Overall I prefer to shop here than at the other two popular Vietnamese grocery stores in Worcester since this place has a off street parking lot.

An Hy Quan Vegetarian Restaurant Menu with Prices 1405 Juan Tabo Blvd NE #4405, Albuquerque

Amazing authentic Asian vegetarian cuisine. I came here with a friend for lunch on a Sunday and had the place to ourselves at opening. Our server was very friendly and helpful with the menu. Food was served fast and everything we had was excellent. The deep fried vegan egg rolls were delicious for starters, served with multiple dipping sauces. Even though they were fried, they were not very oily, which was a nice touch. I ordered the fine rice with shredded veggies, tofu loaf and bbq. It was about as perfect as a entree could be. The rice bed was fresh and it was topped with a variety of tastes, from tangy/sweet (bbq) to savory (tofu loaf) to slightly acidic (veggies). The bbq reminded me of something I once had at a vegetarian restaurant in New York City, but until this, had never found anywhere else. My friend ordered the vegan pho with Vietnamese-style vegan beef. The large bowl was big enough to share and was very flavorful. The only thing I’d recommend is that they make their menu more specific in differentiating between what’s vegan and non-vegan. Some items have vegan in the name, although most don’t. With that said, some options are vegan, but you wouldn’t know for sure unless you asked. Luckily our server was very helpful and honest in telling us what was or wasn’t vegan. The steamed buns are NOT vegan, just a heads up. Aside from nit-picking the menu labels, I loved the authentic Asian cuisine and friendly service. I will definitely be back!

Biji’s Best – Menu with Prices – 5640 Hidcote Dr, Lincoln

I have been hearing great reviews about this place and when a colleague had heard the same & offered to pick up lunch today, I couldn’t pass it up. We pulled up seemingly as several other cars did at lunch time all heading for the serving counter. The friendly woman behind the counter offered a small plate to try the 3 dishes prepared that day for sample. While I’m not a vegetarian but do love vegan & vegetarian dishes, I enjoy that they offer a vegetarian option! It can be difficult that at restaurants sometimes. The dish I ended up for my meal today was the Odisha Fish Curry. The fish was mild and light but took in some great flavor from the sauce. It was very well complimented with the pickled carrots & onion mixture on top of a bed of rice. You do also have a choice if you want naan instead of rice (or if you want both, it was just an extra charge). Then I also did notice an area where there was a couple side items (today it was samosas and an aloo type side item) if you wanted to buy them. I can’t wait for more dishes to try at this hidden gem.

Thuy?n Viên Menu with Prices 1740 S Euclid St, Anaheim

— overview the best vietnamese vegetarian place!! this hidden gem is sandwiched between pizza hut and a family law office in a pretty small plaza. i found this place on yelp because i was looking for a vegetarian vietnamese restaurant. i saw its high rating reviews and decided to give it a try! i was hesitant at first because i expected it to be packed with customers but it was pretty empty. i assumed it was because i arrived at 4pm (when it opens). i’m happy i decided to stay because turns out, the food was amazing and service was quick and friendly! i would definitely recommend this place to people whether or not they’re vegetarian. — food everything and i mean EVERYTHING is vegetarian here and it blows my mind because it almost looks and tastes like real meat. the restaurant offers a play on garlic “chicken”, kung pao “chicken”, “duck” noodle soup, and so on. because all the dishes are made from soy, they tasted very flavorful and/or saucy to compensate for the lack of real meat. * spring rolls – 2/5 really small and tasted okay. the menu said 4 spring rolls, so i expected it to be 4 regular sized spring rolls. turns out they were 4 mini ones!! honestly i was disappointed, and it wasn’t anything special. only thing was that i thought the shrimp and pork looked very real though! i was shook! * garlic chicken – 4/5 delicious! the soy chicken tasted spongey, which was nice because it soaked up all the flavors. * pot steamed fish -4/5 this dish surprisingly tasted fishy (in a nice way). i wonder how they did without using any fish. it was on the saltier side, but it could be mellowed out with plain white rice. * shaken beef – 5/5 my favorite out of all the dishes i tried! i loved how they cooked the potatoes. the soy beef reminded me of the real deal because the flavors are pretty spot on. i also enjoyed the fresh veggies that came with it too.

An Chay Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 11203 Jasper Ave, Edmonton

I actually have no idea how long An Chay has been sitting on this little corner of Jasper Ave and 112St and as a restaurant that advertises “Vegetarian Vietnamese Cuisine” it never really registered on my radar. However my partner, who is vegetarian, suggested it as a place to try one day and I am happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. An Chay isn’t very big but has a lot of big windows so it provides a lot of natural lighting for a nice meal atmosphere and, as I already stated, it’s on the corner of Jasper ave so it also provides a lively people watching experience. We were greeted promptly, despite there only being one server and our overall service experience was good. We ordered tofu salad rolls to share and then I order their satay soup and my partner got a lemongrass tofu I think. The salad rolls were fresh and came with a peanut sauce. My satay soup was good, not too spicy or too big. It was just what I needed that day to fill belly. I, initially, was a little weary around how the flavour would be seeing as there was no meat in the pho but it was quite tasty. My partner also really enjoyed his tofu dish, which came with “fish sauce” and rice. As someone who doesn’t adhere or identify as a vegetarian, An Chay was a pleasant surprise and a place I would definitely revisit with my partner or a friend who wanted to go for Vietnamese cuisine. The food was flavorful and still captured the tastes of Vietnamese food and the atmosphere was very chill and relaxed. Plus their location is fairly ideal and there is street parking. I think my only side note would be that considering it is a vegetarian establishments, I thought prices were a little high – not drastically high or anything but enough for me to notice I suppose. Still worth a try for sure.

Olea Mediterranean Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1992 Skibo Rd, Fayetteville

If you are vegetarian LISTEN UP! Or if you want to make any modifications. . My husband and I just moved to the area and really wanted good Mediterranean food. As usual I did a Yelp search and looked at the pictures. I also read some of the reviews. One said that she was a vegetarian and the rice is chicken based. So, all of the menu items that state â??veganâ? are NOT vegan. When I went in and picked up the order, I asked the staff why they say its vegan or vegetarian and they said they only use a little of the spice. It does not matter it is a NOT veggie dish at that point.. Also, we asked for the tomato basil platter and after explaining to the girl on the phone that my husband was a vegetarian I also asked for NO pepper (I guess I assumed they would put no meat-based items around the dish). Well guess what? The tomato basil platter was on a bed of rice. Chicken based rice that my husband wont touch. So that was $9.95 down the drain.. So, the fact that they say items on the menu are vegan/vegetarian when in fact they are NOT, the order being wrong we will not be back. What a shame because my dish was actually good, minus the fatouch salad that is not described properly. The â??fatouchâ? has onions, which is NOT on the menu, otherwise I would have asked for no onions.

Veggie Galaxy – Menu with Prices – 450 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Cambridge. Maybe the world? I discovered Veggie Galaxy when I moved to the Boston area 6 years ago. Life has never been the same. I love that they serve fully vegetarian (and easily made vegan) food that is…not healthy! Sometimes we want fried food too! And protein besides tofu and lentils! You can order soups and salads here, but where Veggie Galaxy really shines is in their ability to deliver diner food that just so happens to be vegetarian. They take traditionally meat-only dishes (chicken & waffles, meatball subs, buffalo wings, fish & chips, fried chicken, reuben sandwiches…I could go on) and make them vegetarian, and I love them for that. No, these things do not really taste like their meat counterparts, but a) I can eat them! and b) they taste delicious! The food can be heavy, but to me that’s the point – I don’t need yet another restaurant to serve me a grain and vegetable bowl with tahini. I can make that at home. And their menu is quite large, so lighter options are available too. Veggie Galaxy is for mostly everyone. Those who expect vegetarian meat substitutes to taste exactly like meat probably won’t like it much. But Veggie Galaxy offers “weird” vegetarian things like seitan and tempeh for the more adventurous, and “safe” vegetarian things like tofu and veggie burgers. They also serve breakfast all day! For me, their desserts (which are 100% vegan) are good, but not great. It’s hard to compete with butter and eggs. But I really enjoy the chocolate cake and the sheer fact that they offer a seriously impressive array of tasty vegan desserts makes me happy. We moved out of state and this is probably the place I miss most. It is a really unique spot – I can’t recommend it enough!

Sanaa’s Gourmet – Menu with Prices – 401 E 8th St #100, Sioux Falls

I would have given 5 stars but the likelihood that my review would have been filed under “reviews not recommended” would have been high. I really loved my meal and never tried vegan kibbeh and a couple of sides before. Gluten free, vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes are offered There is also a special of the day. I should have taken a picture of my meal but after traveling for 6 hrs. The thought didn’t cross my mind-lol. After I finished I wished that the portion sizes were bigger but drank water and all was well. Buffets are at dinner time and on Saturday. Please check website for details. I also tried a couple of the desserts like the fennel cookie and a ladyfinger. Excellent There was plenty of parking at 2pm. As we were walking out the door I saw a table display stating “We are healthy.” I thought yes and delicious too.

U Know Korean Bistro – Menu with Prices – 290 S State Rd 7, Hollywood

The plaza and place are dingy, but sometimes those are the best places. Based on that and seeing people come and go from this place when I go to the store next door, I decided to go in and inquire regarding items for myself and friend (one vegetarian and the other a seafood lover). Korean restaurants ALWAYS have plenty of both as I have been eating Korean food regularly since I was a teenager 25 years ago. I asked to see a menu and inquired regarding both. The woman behind the counter seemed to be EXTREMELY bothered that I asked to see a menu. When I inquired as to what seafood and vegan plated there were she mentioned two seafood plates and said “there isn’t much for vegetarians.” I proceeded to skim through the menu and found MANY options which seemed to be vegetarian, if not even vegan. I proceeded to inquire one tofu and/or vegetable dish at a time while she did whatever she was doing, which was obviously MUCH more important than going over the menu with a potential customer. As I inquired dish by dish she would give short, snarky, attitude-filled answers like “yeah, that is,” or “has fish sauce.” Not to mention me asking about the possibility of not adding the fish sauce. Ultimately, based on prying, I found 4-5 items which would have been conducive for vegetarians, contrary to what she told me to push me out, and many for seafood lovers, but I would definitely not patronize a place which clearly doesn’t want the business. I hope their poor attitude results in a drop in business on the part of those they treat this way as this place has no business being in the service industry.

Saigon Lotus – Menu with Prices – 6 St Andrew St, Toronto

The best Vietnamese food weâ??ve had in a while & weâ??re not even vegan or vegetarian! We are Asian food gourmets who appreciate authentic high quality food. Trust me. This was it. The staff were good & warm people. Plus we had 1 person in our group with a severe peanut allergy & once we told the staff, they took care preparing his food without any peanuts or cross-contamination. We were celebrating a birthday so Nema asked me if we were vegan. We told him we werenâ??t so he brought the birthday boy a very delicious vanilla ice cream cake with chocolate pieces in the vanilla ice cream. Apparently his mom makes them homemade! Thank you so much for a very lovey & delicious meal / experience!

Thai House Tempe – Menu with Prices – 325 W Elliot Rd #101, Tempe

It’s about time I review this place. I’ve been here probably over 10x. The place is never busy…….it’s usually empty. I was excited to see more Asian restaurants in my neighborhood. This place tastes like any other typical Thai restaurant. Drunken noodles are my favorite but when I order it here, the portions are large and tasteless. I actually order it Togo, come home and add sauce to it. Tastes great after I do that. Curries, I’ve had a few. You can never go wrong with curry. They all taste the same at every restaurant. My husband loves it. Tom yum is good. I get this when it’s cold. The shrimp is always over cooked that it tastes like rubber. I don’t care to eat the shrimp because of it. We ask to have chicken instead. Special roast chicken. I will never order this again. The rubb just smells weird. Tasted it a few times and threw the whole dish out. It was expensive. I had a noodle dish (similiar to Vietnamese pho). It was ok. Nothing to really say about it. I had various stirfries. They are typical..what you expect to get at most places. I wish they would really consider slicing the meat so that it complements the dish. All the meat is sliced big and just not very tasteful. The basil dish would taste so much better with minced meat. The cashew chicken should have thin sliced chicken…etc… I asked for sticky rice and I got the coconut sticky rice (dessert) Papaya salad is actually decent. Not too sweet. I love it lao style and I can fix the restaurants dish. Beef larb….it was good and I would order again but what’s with the thick sides of carrot? I’ll still continue to order from here even though it’s average. It’s close by and helps save me time. I can fix the food if needed. Portions are large.

Mongolian Bar-B-Que Pan Asia – Menu with Prices – 369 E 17th St #12, Costa Mesa

This used to be one of my favorite hidden restaurants 4 years and it’s changed hands a number of the time throughout the years but remained very good and very well price the price has gone up slightly but it is by no means expensive now but it’s not nearly as good of a deal as that used to be unfortunately prices have almost doubled on some dishes but to be fair they were very low to begin with the reason I’m giving this to three star review mainly is because I have a pescatarian diet I’m not even fully vegetarian I just don’t eat meat in general but I eat seafood and fish as well as dairy products and I could not find a single thing in the restaurant that wasn’t cooked with or on at the very least beef and pork Etc and I ended up having to just go grab a slice of pineapple pizza at Massimo’s next door and come back because there was nothing I could order that wouldn’t mess with my stomach so the only thing I can really get there now is abir 40 unfortunately even if you were to just get on all veggie Bowl it gets cooked both on a Surface that’s cooked many types of meat and with other dishes at the same time that contain meat so you’re basically cooking meat into your food and that for any type of vegetarian diet is not going to be good that being said the staff is very friendly they always have been and I highly recommend this place especially if you eat red meat and pork
