If you want fried chicken, fried pork chops, etc like Grandma use to make. Go to Big Mamas. Very good food at a reasonable price. A little disappointed in the banana pudding because the wafers were a bit crunchy. Will definitely go back!

Mabel’s Gourmet Pralines – Menu with Prices – 625 Pine Ave, Long Beach

Some damn good banana pudding and that ain’t no lie. Wowzers. Decided to go big or go home so I shelled out $20 (cash because they don’t take card) for essentially a pie sized serving of delicious banana pudding and I have absolutely no regrets. My girlfriend and I practically ate the whole thing in less than a night. It pretty much became our dinner. I’d definitely hustle back in for another serving without hesitation. And just an FYI I was going to take a picture of the Nilla wafers on top and show how it appeared – but my appetite won out. With a pie serving dish, though, they place a bottom layer of Nilla wafers (I had the opportunity to watch them make it because anything larger than the $10 one does, I guess), then pudding, then more wafers AND fresh cut bananas, then more pudding, then more wafers. C’est delicioso

Mill Town Market – Menu with Prices – 3360 Brookdale Ave, Macon

I’m saying this with LOVE…the place looks like a dump but don’t let that fool you. The food is AWESOME and I should know…I stop in at least one evening a week. I’ve tried everything on the hot line and it has not disappointed me yet. My husband loves the fried chicken and candied yams! I love the roast beef and fried pork chops. Collards, dressing and yams are outrageously delicious. You simply MUST give this place a try. Desserts are great as well…especially the banana pudding.

Honey From the Rock Cafe Menu with Prices 2621 Washington Rd, Augusta

Food was ok, except that fried chicken was dry. Roast beef was great. Trouble arrived with our ice cream. This place is supposed to have freshly made home made ice cream. The butter pecan was sweet but had no butter or pecan flavor and was grainy, like it was melted and refrozen. The peach ice cream had a mild peach flavor but had been put in a cup and left in the freezer uncovered overnight. It was dry and grainy with large chunks of ice. Very bad. Service was great but bad dessert ruins the whole meal. It was a wee bit pricey too, with lunch for two at $37.77. Almost forgot the banana pudding. They forgot the bananas. No bananas but lots of vanilla wafers in a thin gruel of banana flavored stuff with lots of whipped cream so you couldn’t see what was underneath.

Noble Smoke – Menu with Prices – 2216 Freedom Dr, Charlotte

So my husband’s boss took us to Noble ‘s smoke for a work dinner. I had gone online and looked up the menu prior to and was really excited about all the side items that they had. I love some veggies, so I was all about that! Upon arriving we were fascinated at the size of the restaurant with all the smokers that you could see it in the back of the building. By the way, at the end of our meal we got to take a small tour. I don’t know if they do that for whom ever wants to tour but definitely ask if you’re interested it’s kind of cool. Our server (Felix) was absolutely one of the best servers I’ve ever had! He was prompt and courteous with a smile on his face! He actually looked like he wanted to be there! We started off with the chicken wings which were absolutely hands-down the best smoked chicken wings that I’ve ever eaten. You did not need anything else with them. My husband and I both got the quarter pound brisket. when it came to the table we thought it was kind of a chintzy cut. However, it was plenty really. I had the stewed squash which was delicious and my husband had the mac & cheese. We got to try the pork as the couple across from us gave us each a bite and it was good as well. Some of the guys got fried oysters and they said they were absolutely awesome. My husband and I each had cocktails and they were served in a nice size glass and they were delicious. They have a whole sheet of craft beers you can choose from and I believe they’re building a brewery In there as well. Everyone we came in contact with was super nice ultra informative and once again looked like they were happy to be there and happy that you were there. In this day and time I think that’s a plus!!!!! OH YEAH….. they have banana pudding and fried pies I had the apple fried pie, it was a nice treat for the end of the evening. I can’t say anything about the banana pudding as I don’t eat banana pudding. Overall I would say GO! The ambience is cool the food is awesome the people are awesome the whole experience was just awesome! Well done Nobles Smoke!

I was just in the area visiting my friend and wanted BBQ for lunch. Googled and this came up. Although it was empty when I pulled up, I ordered everything (almost)!! I haven’t have BBQ in a while so I had to be greedy and try everything!! Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, mac & cheese, fried okra, hash and rice and banana pudding for dessert. Oh and I didn’t forget the sweet tea!! I wasn’t disappointed at all. If your ever in Augusta stop here and eat this man’s AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS BBQ!!! I wasn’t disappointed! Stop in and even challenge him to a game of bones or bid wiz!! ð???

Good Kitchen 614 – Menu with Prices – 1485 Sunbury Rd, Columbus

I thought I saw a new sign on this building, and then I saw a crowd the other day, so I stopped in as soon as I could. It’s a little place in a small strip mall. Carryout, mainly, though there is a small counter where you could eat a quick lunch. Several kinds of fried fish, fried chicken, pork chops, etc. There was a meatloaf special the day I went. Choose your meat and get two sides- but you’ll have trouble narrowing it down to two, so you might want to get some extras! It all smelled and looked great. I got the fried perch, with mac and cheese and greens; and smothered pork chops, with cabbage and sweet potato casserole. They also had mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, and a few other sides. The perch was perfect: hot, tender and flaky, light breading. The pork chops were very good: meaty, fried up nicely, with a good gravy. The mac and cheese was very good home-made style (though it has to compete with Sweetie’s mom’s pinnacle of excellence, and it is close but not up there.) The greens were excellent- vinegary, tender, flavorful. The cabbage was perfect: not overcooked, and a few other veggies thrown in for color. The sweet potatoes were so good I had to slow myself down. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are very reasonable- we got all that for under $20, and it was plenty. We’ll be back. Even though Sweetie is averse to “shacks” (I told her it’s in a strip mall, not a shack; she was unimpressed.)

Ronnie’s Crab Shack – Menu with Prices – 1411 Castle St, Wilmington

I’m the person that usually will order fish & chips if I see it on a menu, so needless to say, I am always on the hunt for good fried fish. I had seen a bunch of positive comments about this place, so guess where I had to go on my cheat day? ? The service was wonderful, the employee was very friendly and playful while still being patient as we were trying to figure out what to order as first time visitors. We ended up with a combo plate (fish, shrimp, & scallops), a Whiting plate, & banana pudding. The establishment is carry-out only, and wow, they are so consistently busy with people coming in & out for both the cooked food & fresh seafood selection. The amount of food you receive is generous, and for a good price! I didn’t personally enjoy the banana pudding, but the BF loved it & we both agreed the hush puppies were some of the better ones we’ve had. Will def come back the next time I’m ready for some more fried fish

Big Lee’s – Serious About Barbecue – Menu with Prices – 3925 SE 45th Ct, Ocala

The Big Lee’s Food Trailer came to Emerson Hall today and generated some excitement in GNV. I stood in line for an hour which is something I don’t normally do, but it’s Friday and the weather was great. The story about the journey of this food truck business was high-level, and I guess I got caught up in the marketing of it all with “best-ever” being thrown around multiple times and the Food Network connection made it even more interesting. The food trailer is beautiful, the ordering process was very good, and the owner is charismatic. He even acknowledged my friend’s 60th birthday sash which was thoughtful and very nice of him. I ordered a rib meal (The sign said a rib meal comes with a side at $12.50.) and banana pudding. When I returned to the office to unveil my highly anticipated rib meal, I couldn’t believe it. I slowly unwrapped the aluminum foil and there were two ribs inside–that’s it; no bread/no sauce/no side. The homemade banana pudding made with real pudding not instant pudding was disappointing. It was a condensed milk substance, Nilla wafers and bananas in my little cup. My phone died so I couldn’t take a picture of it. The young lady who told me about the food trailer coming to town saw what I ordered, and she was embarrassed. I told her not to be embarrassed maybe it’s hit or miss. I graciously stood in line for an hour for two mediocre ribs and four ounces of juicy banana pudding and paid $15 for it. I was a willing participant, and I contacted others to join in. The owner did an excellent job of being cordial and collecting my payment, but not so good of making sure I had everything that comes with the order; he owes me a side. My experience was classic if it sounds too good to be true…

Rose Rock Microcreamery – Menu with Prices – 502 E 3rd St #35, Tulsa

Believe the hype! This small little spot in a hip location was a slam dunk for us as we were passing through Tulsa. Their ice cream is so good! For folks traveling through Tulsa, it’s close to a giant intersection of highways near/in downtown Tulsa. We didn’t think it took too much time to hop back on the highway at all. Ice cream: fresh + flavorful + perfect texture + perfect balance of sweet // creamy. I’m a sucker for banana pudding anything. Their take on banana pudding ice cream was scrumptious! I paired it with a scoop of vanilla and it was crave worthy! They let you sample different flavors “try-before-you-buy” kinda thing, so don’t you can’t blame them if you are disappointed with your flavor selection. I think 2 scoops is the perfect size. Prices are reasonable for what you get. They are constantly rotating flavors and it’s all small batch. Rotating menu means lots of rotating reasons to come back!

Jackie’s Soul Food & Catering – Menu with Prices – 4306 Rivers Ave, Charleston

Visited this establishment on 12/05…the lady who went to the door at 1153 said that they opened at 1200. Because I was told that the food was awesome, I waited until 1212 for them to open. Once inside, the place smelled of sewage and the food wasn’t ready. Had to wait for pork chops. I ordered 2 pork chops, mac and cheese as well as some collard greens. The chops were good, the mac and cheese was pretty good but the greens were terrible. Also it was 10.00 for that and she said that she gave me a discount. Dont waste your time…waiting for the health inspector to shut it down. Had a better experience at Pappys for all you can eat pork chops for less money.

Woodhouse Vegan Cafe + Space – Menu with Prices – 851 N 4th St, Columbus

Quite mediocre. I’ve went there twice and have paid for more food than I’ve gotten. It’s an interesting concept and I expected so much considering their following but it just didn’t live up. The dessert this week was a banana pudding which was $10 in a tiny cup, juxtapose that to the banana pudding at HCT which is 16oz and $3.50. I get that this is vegan , but you’re blocking out ordinary people who want plant based foods when you overprice your food. Work on better flavor composition and knowing when there’s too much seasoning as well as what seasoning belongs where.

The Open Cafe – Menu with Prices – 3222 N 34th St, Tampa

Open Cafe is an East Tampa institution for soul food. I went on a Sunday which is the best time to see and be seen. My brothers and sisters welcomed me in their Sunday’s best. And these peeps looked Good!!! You’re greeted inside the doors by a gentleman who records your order highlighting your selections. Do get the gravy. The fried chicken and ribs are delicious. Lots of sumptuous sides from sweet potato and mac and cheese to collard greens and okra with tomato. I believe there may also be table service if you’re not doing to go. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. There is a celebratory atmosphere. Godly. People here are happy to be alive and among friends. It’s a community place and lots of people helping out and serving you. I didn’t try the desserts but coconut cake, red velvet, banana pudding and more are on offer. It’s about $11 or so for a hearty meal. After your order sheet(s) are highlighted with your choices you proceed to the register and food area where your meal is dished out. I recommend sitting and staying. The food is delish and you’ll want to relax among these fabulous people. Make sure to dress up a little. Looking good is feeling good and you’ll be among lots of beautiful people. Pork chops. Liver and onion. Beef shank. Ox tails. Hog maw. Baked or fried chicken. Or a vegetarian combo of sides. Lots.tp choose from. If you want to order something made to order it takes a little longer and those offerings are on the backside.q
