I would rank Bengal Bar and Grill 2.5 – 3 stars. 2 would be too low. 3 might be too high. Having said that I went here because I saw they had close to 20 reviews and had a 4.0 rating. During lunch they offer Buffet. The Buffet is a bit overpriced for the selection they offer. There were not that many guests there to begin with, and that’s always a frightening thing at a place that offers a buffet. The number of items they offer were also limited and they were out of items like tandoori chicken and fish curry that we had to ask a couple of times before we got them. The chicken biryani has large pieces of potatoes in it. The first time I only got a piece of potato instead of chicken by accident. The dessert is not even worth trying, as I had both the gulab jamun and carrot halva. Carrot Halva tasted bad and did not have the right consistency to it. Gulab Jamun looked way too dark after you bit into it than any other I have ever had before. Bottom line is I would not be going back here again. There are just too many other good options out there.

Masala Bites – Menu with Prices – 660 Eglinton Ave W #5B, Mississauga

Great little place for lunch buffet. Not a huge selection but definitely more than enough. They offer the staples like goat curry, butter chicken, paneer, eggplant, chickpeas. Not sure what all the names are but they’re all part of the buffet spread. All good and tasty. Not too oily either. There is also a small salad and dessert section. Also the staples are there like Gulab Jamun and Ras Malai. Also very well done. Whenever we feel like Indian buffet, this is our go to place. The restaurant is clean, cosy, service is excellent! Owner is very friendly. Waitresses are also very pleasant and helpful. Today, when we went for lunch, they had everything out except the eggplant, which is my fave. When I asked if they had any, she purposely brought me a small plate of it, which was more than enough to satisfy my eggplant craving. I would definitely recommend this over some of the big chains. Very comfortable, high quality food, excellent service. They also have a la carte. $14 for lunch and $16.99 for dinner buffet. Can also order a la carte from menu.

Tamarind Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 415 N Military Hwy #27, Norfolk

This place is an amazing hidden gem!!! Hands down best Indian food and the best prices. Went for lunch and it wasn’t too busy but as soon as I walked in the door the incredible aroma told me this place was gonna be good! Had the Meat Thali which is like a sample plate including two meat entrees, apple relish, rice, wheat naan, pappadam and gulab jamun, who could ask for more? The naan was very good to my amazement bc it was flatter than I’m accustomed to, the butter chicken and chili chicken were good but the gulab jamun will stick in my mind and to my ribs for a while! It’s like a fried donut hole soaked in maple syrup and garnished with shaved coconut, YUM! Also had the samosa chaat as a starter and it was delish! And a mango lassi because you kinda have to. Courteous staff, fast service and a good atmosphere. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!

Chicago’s Pizza With A Twist – Menu with Prices – 1885 S Virginia St, Reno

Do yourself a flavor (see what I did there) and check this place out! You wouldn’t expect Indian food and pizza to work together but Chicago’s pizza harmonizes it perfectly. My friends and I indulged in chicken tikka masala pizza, kebob pizza, butter chicken pasta, and gulab jamun. One of the main reasons I wanted to try this place was because of their butter chicken pasta. It was totally different from what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. The chicken tikka masala and kebob pizza were delicious. I’ve never had pizza with so many ingredients that worked so well together. None of the ingredients overpowered the other. Each bite was an explosion of flavor. Out of the two I liked the chicken tikka masala more but I would definitely order both again. My friend even said that it was the best pizza they ever had! Pizza has never been one of my favorites but getting to try their twists has definitely made me a fan. We ended it on a sweet note with gulab jamun which is one of my favorite desserts. They served it warm which made it even more decadent. The workers are very friendly and eager to help if you’re overwhelmed by the menu and confused on what to get. I can wait to come back to try other things on the menu!

Peak Restaurant & Bar – Menu with Prices – 3401 W Airport Fwy #110, Irving

I visited this place on a Saturday afternoon for the lunch. The place is situated near to Irving Mall. This place is a restobar and serves the Nepalese and Indian cuisine along with drinks. Now, here is my perspective about the place. Food and Drinks (4.5/5) – I started with a Mango Lassi and it tasted awesome. Then I went on to try a couple of appetizers. Chips Chilli is a must try in appetizers. It’s a dish made of potatoes. I also tried their “Chatpate” dish which is what we call “Bhel Muri” in India. It’s a dish made of rice puffs beiing mixed with peanuts and small diced pieces of cucumber, onion, tomato. Then I went on to try on their Veg Momos which tasted equally good. In the main course, I tried Paneer Vindaloo with Garlic Naan. The curry was made of paneer (cottage chesse) and potatoes. I loved the spiciness of the curry. Finally finished my meal with Indian desserts such as Gulab Jamun and Ras Malai. I am sure u will love the Gulab Jamun here. Service (4.5/5) – I got a very warm welcome from the staff. Jasmine gave me some very good suggestions on what to try. Also, the food was served quick, fresh and hot. Ambience (4.5/5) – The interiors of the place are really good. They have a dim lit kind of ambience. They have 4-5 big TVs playing different sports on each one. So u can enjoy whicever sport u like. They have different kind of seatings (sofa, wooden chairs and high raise chairs near the bar). So you can chose whatever you are comfortable with. Overall, I had a great time here and would love to visit the place again.

Hyderabadi Foodie Adda – Indian Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 1280 28th St SE, Grand Rapids

My friend Mason A and I met up for lunch at Hyderabadi Foodie Adda to try their buffet. It’s available every day they’re open until 2:30 or 3 pm depending on the day. We got there right when they opened at 11:30 and everything on the buffet looked great. All of the dishes were labeled, which was really nice. I didn’t know what everything was but you can easily Google things with the names right there. I tried a bit of a bunch of different items, including chili chicken, kadai chicken, dal, veg biryani, masala fries, goat biryani, and mirchi ka salan. The buffet also had several different chutneys, naan, white rice, a couple dessert items, and two specialty drinks (rose milk and something else that was red and sweet). There were a few dishes that were empty and not being used so maybe they offer more dishes later in the day — I was hoping to see some fish, paneer, or lamb dishes. Everything I tried was delicious! The flavors were subtle but with a little heat. I think the heat level might be a little much for people not used to spicy food but it was pleasant for me. Definitely not super hot but if you don’t like spicy food I might inquire about heat levels on the buffet. My favorites were the chili chicken, which was breaded chicken in a chili sauce, and the kadai chicken, which was tender chunks of chicken thighs in a rich sauce. The naan was light and warm and perfect for eating with the dal. It didn’t seem like they were serving any dishes off the menu during the buffet, but I’m not sure on that. There is a cooler with soft drinks and mango lassi, rose milk, and some other drinks. Mason and I both got a mando lassi to go which was sweet and delicious with great mango flavor. There are water pitchers on each table with glasses which is convenient. I was happy that we were able to check out this new family owned business and try some delicious food that I’d never had before! I’ll definitely be back for the buffet again.

Royal Tandoor – Menu with Prices – 26532 Bouquet Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita

A month ago, my wife’s employer catered food from Royal Tandoor for an internal company event. My wife liked what was served and suggested we go have lunch together at Royal Tandoor. We went to Royal Tandoor on Saturday, August 17, 2019. Upon our arrival, we were immediately seated and the waiter asked us to help ourselves for the food buffet. We sampled many of the available items. The food was very delicious and well prepared. Plenty of selections to choose from. In particular, the curries were very good and we enjoyed several varieties. The tandoor chicken was also very good. They served us the garlic naan bread but soon we asked for another naan. The yoghurt with the mint was very refreshing and so was the green mint dip. For desert we had their rice pudding (Kheer) and Gulab Jamun. Whatever we sampled it was very delicious and great taste. The service was excellent with the waiters constantly attending to our table. There is plenty of parking space and finding parking is never an issue. Considering the amount of food that is available and the cost of the buffet, it is very cheap compared to other eatery places. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Royal Tandoor and we will repeat many times.

the SPICE LOUNGE – Indian Buffet Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 39158 Paseo Padre Pkwy, Fremont

I wanted to have a Dosa or an Uttapam so made my way to this place – which is occupying the space once occupied by Konaseema Kitchen. The chap at the counter offered me a non-veg thali – which I agreed to. When I asked, I was told it was not an unlimited thali. I expected that since it was already a little past the lunch hour, the service would be fast – it was not. Two small buckets of probably a Sambar and Rasam – they both appeared identical were first placed in front of me. There was no other bowl or other utensil – just these two small buckets. After what seemed like an eternity – time acquires its own dimension when you are hungry – a Thali was placed in front me – it was quite a variety: 1) Tandoor Roti 2) Chicken Chettinad 3) Orange Chicken 4) Masoor Dal were the side dishes. This was accompanied by a pile of white rice with a couple of cilantro leaves on top and bowl full of Lemon Rice. As condiments there was a papad, a pile of pickles, a slice of onion and lemon. And a bowl of one Gulab Jamun for dessert. I started with the Tandoor Roti. It was hard. I do NOT exaggerate – it was HARD. With a single hand – you eat with both hands only if you are eating Tandoori Chicken – one could not break the roti into pieces. My normal habit is to break a roti into pieces, fold it into a small cup, pick up the gravy from a Curry – Chicken Chettinad in this case – and pop it into my mouth. I COULD NOT FOLD IT. I COULD NOT BREAK IT. I was left with two layers of hard, pita chip like pieces between which the gravy barely stayed. And once in my mouth, it felt like some hard Cassava chips. Next to the rice. Not being able to definitely make out whether it was Sambar or Rasam, I tried to pour the liquid from one of the mini buckets. – Surprise, Surprise! it was a Rasam and in place of the ladle was a TABLE SPOON! Try serving Rasam with your wrong (Left) hand from a deep vessel like a mini bucket using a table spoon. After 5 or 6 back and forth, I had barely a corner of the white rice pile covered in rasam – barely acquiring some color – Rasam rice is typically very liquid. Anyway, I started on the rice – when I got a telephone call. Two minutes later when I resumed the rice, I was surprised to encounter a sense of being full. In India, there is a rumor that restaurants add Baking soda to the rice while boiling it so that even if you eat a quarter of your regular quantity of rice, you get a sensation of being full – this seemed to be happening here. I REALLY HOPE THAT THIS TECHNIQUE IS NOT BEING INTRODUCED HERE! I ate only a little of the rice, left the lemon rice and Masoor dal alone and concentrated on the Gulab Jamun. This too was a disappointment. I have prepared Gulab Jamuns myself using Khoya and I know that my Gulab Jamuns have been delightful – pure bliss which you could disintegrate in your mouth with just your tongue and the palate. This Jamun required a lot of force to even cut it using the spoon! Jamuns are not supposed to be so firm – they are supposed to be soft which flattened at the slightest pressure – this Jamun would not yield even with full force from my right (Correct) hand! All in all, I felt bad wasting so much food – AND I WAS FAMISHED, MIND YOU! And for a Post-tax price of $14? It was just not worth it – stay away from their Thali.

7 peppers grill – Menu with Prices – 6290 Quinpool Rd, Halifax

My first impression was great. Walked into this place and was greeted with very nice hospitality and was given a small bowl of lentil soup as complimentary. The establishment is very clean and they have a nice variety on their menu. I ordered the chicken biryani expecting it to be $8.95, which I saw on the menu. Unfortunately, the biryani was not what I expected. The rice was an orangey colour and I believe it was parboiled rice. I was expecting a biryani basmati flavourful rice. The chicken was a quarter leg rotisserie style. When it was time to pay for the meal, my total was $14! I questioned why the meal as so much and it turned out that I was charged for two pieces of chicken. I guess because when I ordered, I didn’t say how many pieces of chicken I wanted, they decided to give and charge me for the most expensive option. That left me with a bad impression. They should have asked me how many pieces I wanted, instead of assuming that I wanted the largest meal at 9pm at night. If you go to this restaurant, just be sure you know exactly what you are ordering and ask for the quantity of what you are expecting.

Loudon Square Buffet – Menu with Prices – 801 N Broadway # 2, Lexington

I went to Loudon Square Buffet yesterday. I hadn’t been there for a long time as I thought it had closed. I used to go down that way for Willie’s Locally Known, Maria’s stand before she got a formal building to work from, and West Sixth. So the buffet or Maria’s were cheap, quick options. It was just about a quarter past eleven so not many diners were there yet. That gave me plenty of time to look over their options for the day. I had decided I wanted some food like I grew up eating, keto diet be damned for a day. I right away went for the mashed potatoes, brisket, fried cabbage, green beans and catfish. All were great. the brisket and sauce went so well with the potatoes, and the meat was so tender. The cabbage was not overly salty, which I appreciated. And the catfish was fried just right; not tough and still warm. It’s really hard to find green beans prepared the way I had them growing up, but these were quite good. For my second round I did the fried chicken (of course), dressing, a really nice noodle casserole, and potato salad. I loved the mustard style potato salad, tangy with no one ingredient overwhelming the others. The chicken was awfully good, too. Not overcooked or greasy, just nice savory chicken with some good crunchy bits. It was clear they have had many years of experience cooking most all of these items. I had just a little room left for some dessert, so I had the peach cobbler. Again, it was wonderful; delicious peaches in a sweet cobbler base and buttery crust. All of this, plus the kind of friendly, welcoming service you’d expect from a small family-run country buffet, and for just $8. How anyone could not be happy and satisfied is beyond me. I’ll be back soon, no doubt.

Nawab Grill & Restaurant – Pakistan & Indian Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 11277 Reading Rd, Cincinnati

Limited Options but great taste This used to be a Mexican Restaurant right next to Brijmohan, was surprised to see an Indian/Pakistani restaurant here. Decided to give it a shot for lunch. Tried the buffet on a Friday afternoon. There were 2 non-veg appetizers, 2 veg curries, 2 non-veg curries, Chicken Biryani, White Rice and Naan. The food was very tasty, chicken was very tender and well cooked, Naan was fresh and fluffy. Biryani had the right amount of spice and the curries tasted good too. One of the chicken curries was little watery but the taste was ok. Chicken Tandoori was very well spiced and cooked although it could have used a little more salt. Overall the food was delicious and we were satisfied with the experience. The have special buffet on weekends with options like Halwa Puri, Beef Nihari and Goat Paya on the menu. Will definitely come back to try it sometimes. Had a nice chat with the owner, he is new to Cincinnati area, owned a restaurant in New York, originally from Lahore, Pakistan. Since they were not too busy, the cook stepped outside frequently to ask customers for their feedback on the food. The service was good. The overall cleanliness and ambience could use a little improvement to make it more welcoming. I’m hoping they will improve as they become popular. 4 stars for now. Will update after my next visit.

Spice Club Indian Grill – Menu with Prices – 18011 S Tamiami Trail, Fort Myers

Here on Friday night for the first time with a neighbored and friend. We both love all the spices and flavors Indian cuisine offers. We were looking forward to this. We like everything we had. I think it may have been either the manager or owner who took our order. We were given lots of time to check out their very extensive menu and at such reasonable prices. There was a lot of great entrees on that menu so it was difficult to just settle on two. We decided on two types of Naan to have. One was plain and the other was a Naan stuffed with pieces of lamb inside. Both were excellent. Do not miss the Naan. They do a great job with that. I also asked for pappadam, which was too much given the two baskets of Naan but as usual, always want more! And I asked for the traditional trio…the sweet chopped onions, the spicy tamarind sauce and the mild chutney. Also asked for a side of Mango Chutney and Raita. We ordered the CHICKEN BIRYANI and the BUTTER CHICKEN as entrees. Both excellent. I also had my fave, the MANGO LASSI yogurt beverage. VG! For dessert we had their version of RICE PUDDING. and the GULAB JAMUN. Enjoyed that as well. I just wasn’t used to some chunks but mostly strips of (butter) chicken. But everything was very flavorful, the sauce was great, and of course just ate a tad too much. A portion of the entrees was taken home. It’s little over 20 miles from my house, but when it comes to good food, it’s never a problem. This place is worth the drive wherever you are. I’m looking forward to more visits here because there’s a lot of great entrees on that menu. Enjoy your time here! BTW, forget the rice that comes with the entree, get the COCONUT RICE!!! Soo good!

Star of India – Menu with Prices – 4025 E Chandler Blvd, Phoenix

This review is just based on their lunch buffet – This is another place I would give a 3.5 stars if I could!! but Yelp hates nuance or something, so confident that this will not damage them too much given a very solid 4 star average overall, I’ll designate it as a 3. The restaurant is good! The food is good, the service is good, it’s clean and it smells great, and I liked that the buffet – uniquely among similar buffets hereabouts – had solid porcelain plates with little sections, like a northern thali. The buffet had two rices (basmati with just like, cumin, and then pulao), several chicken dishes, spinach, a mixed veg curry, chana masala (which I haven’t seen at a lot of Indian buffets around here?), shahi paneer, and samosas, as well as two deserts (kheer and gulab jamun). Naan (plain or garlic) is brought to the table. The spice level is pretty low overall – not bland food remotely, just mild. The food overall was really good, especially the naan, which was nice and flavorful and crisp. The samosas were a bit crunchy? Like the outside dough wasn’t as softly fried as I’m used to, but the inside was still delicious, and the inside of the restaurant – which is a bit smaller than I expected from the outside – is nice. This one is a bit out of my way, but if I lived closer, I would probably make it a staple of my restaurant going, and I would not warn anyone away.
