I literally came here today on 6/3/19 and it doesn’t seem closed… I think unless I was crazy. But I’m very sure I ate a full meal here. I got the banh can and soup mang cua. I have tried the banh Trang nuong, banh xeo, mi quang, and the banh Trang tron and honestly they’re all freaking good. One of my favorite dishes here is the banh can and the soup mang cua. The mang cua is as authentic as u can get when it comes to this dish. I saw some documentaries on Vietnamese food in Vietnam and this comes very close to it– maybe even perfectly replicated. The banh can is uniquely made only at this location as you will only find the other variation, the banh khot, around this area. This itself makes this restaurant greatly unique. Same with the banh trang nuong… honestly other than when the night market is in town, you’ll only find this dish here also… The only downside to this location is that legit you’ll be walking down the most run down hallway that seems suspiciously haunted. On the off time there are people here who use the hallway as dance practice, so in all honesty you might have to awkwardly dodge around them as you Maneuver through. Another funny mention is that while walking up stairs, you’ll find yourself getting stared at by portraits of random asian families. It is as if their eyes follow you wherever you go.

Kimlan Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 1035 N Broadway, Wichita

I’ve been wanting to try this place. I’ve read many really good reviews! So, on my day off today, after waking up from a nap, I was hungry! I first thought about getting a burger from one of our local burger places. Then I remembered Kimlan! I looked them up to find their hours and had only 30 minutes to get there! I’m about 20 minutes away. So I flew out the door! Fortunately I made it on time! I was torn between the Banh Mi Thit Nuong: thinly sliced pork marinated in lemongrass-soy dressing, no mayo. Or the Banh Mi Xa Xiu: sliced Chinese bbq pork. Both come with picked carrots, jalapeno, cilantro, cucumber and mayo (on the Banh Mi Xa Xiu). They were out of the Banh Mi Thit Nuong so that settled my decision! It was really, really delicious!!! Absolutely loved it. I bought 2 so I’d have one for work lunch tomorrow. Glad I did. The bread is light, airy and crunchy. My one issue, which was the reason for just 4 stars, was that IMO, it could have used more meat. I thought it was kind of sparse. Although at just $3.50 for a very decently sized sandwich, it was alright. I ate it at home and added some chicken breast I had. I also ordered some Crispy Egg Rolls ($2.00 for 3) which I would refer to as Spring Rolls (the smaller, thin wrapped rolls), with the fish sauce dipping sauce. They were also good. Typical Spring Rolls. So, all in all, I was very pleased with my meal! I will definitely go back! I want to try the one that they were out of tonight. Also have to try their Bun Thit Nuong Cha Goo: grilled pork & egg roll vermicelli ($6.75). That is one of my favorites! Their prices are incredibly reasonable!

Wasabi Xpress Menu with Prices 2838 Washington Rd, Augusta

I had the banh cha gio thit nuong. Which is basically a rice noodle salad with vegetables, charbroiled pork chop, egg roll and fish sauce poured over it. I had this dish for over 40 years so I know it quite well. First I’ll say their cha gio are small, thin versions of what I’m used to having. So when my banh dish came with only 1 egg roll (and the cut up pork chop), I was surprised. It just didn’t seem like a lot. Their rice noodles are different than I am used to also. Theirs are softer and larger in diameter. Almost the size of Italian spaghetti. Rice noodles or vermicelli is typically thin threads. So I’m not going to order this fish again. I did have their goi cuon. Fortunately it remained tasty and freshly made like last time.

Tung Trang Dehli – Menu with Prices – 9607 107A Ave NW, Edmonton

Tung Trang is nestled in one of the corners along Lucky 97 Supermarket. Blink and you’ll miss it. A small shop owned by a Vietnamese couple that’s open daily from 10am to 7pm. They only sell a few things here, their bread and butter being banh mi, along with a couple of Vietnamese specialties I’ve never seen before (banh tet, Vietnamese meat buns). A couple old Vietnamese grannies came in grabbing those items which I’m curious to try another time. – Vietnamese meat special (#1) ($3.50) – I decided to try their standard and most popular banh mi. I liked how the lady made the sandwich right in front of me – she took her time heating up the bun in one of their toasters and then assembling everything together. Taste wise, the baguette wasn’t very fresh. Maybe because it was end of the day (I came around 5pm) but the bread was flaky and crumbled upon being bitten into. Be prepared for a mess unless your smart and eat it outside. It’d be nice if they gave you a small bag like they do at Van Loc instead of just the plastic saran wrap. The inside had the usual fixings but I wished they had smoothed out the mayo more evenly. Couple spots had way too much. Decent and cheap but better than Van Loc? I’ll splurge the extra $1.00 to get what I want.

DanceHouse Miami – Menu with Prices – 1333 Coral Way, Miami

After my daughters dance school closed I searched high and low for another school. I follow tons of dance schools on social media but none of them caught my eye of what I envisioned to be the perfect fit for my daughter. Randomly, I ran into this gem online and decided to check it out! I honestly cannot be any happier. My daughter instantly felt accepted right away. Her technique improved and her love of dance is just increasing by the day. I feel so blessed to have found Dancehouse Miami and the owner Rochelle is just simply heaven sent! Can’t wait to see what the 2018-2019 dance year brings in our new location. The studio is absolutely beautiful and spacious. If you are looking for a new dance studio I highly recommend!

Ding Tea & H? Long Café – Menu with Prices – 281 Meeting St, Charleston

I was excited to find out that another boba tea/fast-casual Asian eatery had opened up in an underserved area in town that still has a ton of potential for growth when it comes to dining options. We came in around lunch time, so we decided to try food and drinks. I ordered the Banh Mi Xiu Mai (Pork Meatball), and dear husband ordered the Banh Mi Thit Nuong (Grilled Lemongrass Pork). We also shared the Signature Milk Tea (less/75% sweet, half/50% ice) with the traditional boba, per the recommendation of the cashier. My first impression of the food in one word: unimpressed. The xiu mai was just “ok” but certainly not the best I’ve had. The baguette/bread looked soggy and lacked the shiny, crispy appearance that I am accustomed to when it comes to banh mi. Was the baguette not fresh? Perhaps. There wasn’t even the sound of the crunch from breaking the bread/splitting the banh mi in half. The bottom of the banh mi was extremely soggy, as I had suspected. Because I had ordered the xiu mai, I made the assumption that the sauce of the xiu mai caused the sogginess to penetrate to the bottom of the bread. Unfortunately, my husband’s banh mi with the grilled lemongrass pork yielded the same results. The milk tea was decent, but we should have ordered it at 100% sweet. It was a bit more diluted and not as flavorful. In addition, at other boba tea spots, 75% is sufficient. However, I strongly would stick to the 100% level at this spot. The full level of sugar is equivalent to 50%/75% at other boba tea spots. Ice at 50% was the right amount of ice for us to actually enjoy the drink rather than to sip a few times before discovering that 75% of the cup was ice. We probably will not be ordering banh mi from here again but my return to try the other dishes. We hope our next dining experience here will be a bit more pleasant than our first visit.

New Orleans Po Boy & French Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1030 S 13th St Unit 112, Harrisburg

This hole-in-the-wall joint is a hidden gem of Harrisburg. On Sundays it’s bustling with almost all Vietnamese customers which tells you something about its authenticity – but at the same time there’s never a lineup, as many people get take-out. There are counters of carry-out food available, such as dessert items (che, banh cam), banh cuon, fresh rolls, etc. You can also order made-to-order food. Banh khot (V2) – I’ll admit the taste is a bit off from the traditional recipe but the portion is decent and it has a home-made hearty feel to it. It’s worth a try since many Viet restaurants don’t offer this dish. Bun bo hue (D1) – Broth is quite light compared to other places I’ve tried, but the sauce on the side provides the dish with the customer-controlled kick it deserves. Very nice meat taste! Portion size isn’t bad considering the $6 price. Com ga xoi mo (D6) – this is a VERY RARE item that I was shocked to find here – even in big cities like DC it’s not usual. It’s a roti-style chicken served with yellow seasoned rice and fresh veggies. This is da bomb! They did change the dish over the past few months – originally there was a homemade mayonnaise spread on the side, and now the chicken is noticeably more bready and the entire portion became bigger. All very welcome changes. Pate chaud – available at the hot take-out item counter. These I would give an average score – the dough is just right but the meat just isn’t as juicy or flavorful as ones I’ve had elsewhere. Nonetheless, very much worth the price and worth a try as an appetizer if you’re there. Cafe sua da – yes, yes, yes. Their iced coffee is strong yet creamy and sweet with the condensed milk. I wish there wasn’t as much ice taking up most of the volume, but I’ll take quality over quantity. I came with others who tried the hu tieu noodles (D7) and bun cha gio thit nuong (D4) both of which were highly approved of. Overall this is a solid restaurant, not the best Vietnamese I’ve ever had, but has enough of an edge in the other dishes that makes it more exciting than the typical pho joint. If you come here just looking for pho, pho-get it – this place satisfies those who desire more than just basic.

Tan Hoang Huong – Menu with Prices – 5015 W Edinger Ave H, Santa Ana

This place has very good banh mi! They’re always pretty packed every time I come… Especially in the early morning and around lunch time. My favorite things to get here are the #3 banh mi nem nuong or grilled ground pork baguette and the #10 banh mi op la out sunny side up egg baguette, because everything with an egg added to it is good lol! The banh cuon is not impressive, and I would probably rate it at 2.5 stars. Tastes a little flat and flavorless. I really enjoy coming here for the sandwiches and sweet rice to-go plates. They have xoi dau phong or steamed peanut sweet rice, a simple but tasty item. My favorite is the XOI KHUC, a sweet rice pocket with green flour and rice on the outside, filled with savory mung bean and small pieces of ground pork… probably not very healthy but quite tasty! I also like their xoi ong dua, or coconut mung bean sweet rice with chopped peanut and sugar dip- 4.5 stars. In case you are curious, the spring rolls here are not good. They’re average, and I would only eat them in the event I was hungry and nothing else was around. Do not order any drinks here- they are watered down. Also, be sure to drop by in the morning if you can as a lot of the items, especially the to-go plates, are hot and fresh! Happy eating!

Kim Land Food To Go – Menu with Prices – 3347 W Walnut St # 117, Garland

I’ve lived in Dallas for almost 10 years and have only found 2 places that make a proper banh xeo. Unfortunately the first place I found is now closed, but it was so delicious. It was called Lemongrass in Deep Ellum. So when my Vietnamese friend told me about the hole in the wall to-go restaurant next to Hiep Thai grocery store, I was super excited to check out the banh xeo. There’s no English anywhere inside, but don’t be scurred to check this place out. That’s how you know this place is authentic, right? Plus, I mostly spoke English to the cashier/waitress and maybe a smattering of my broken Vietglish, so you definitely can order food here without having to take your Vietnamese friend. There are only 3 tables inside as they mostly do take out orders, but we scored a table and ordered banh cuon and banh xeo. Each order of banh xeo comes with 2 big, crispy, hot, and delicious pork and shrimp and bean sprouts. Also comes with a side of lettuce and veggies. Totally worth it. One order could feed two people but you’d still be hungry. The yellow color comes from turmeric by the way, not eggs. There’s no egg in this dish. To eat banh xeo, cut like a palm sized amount of banh xeo off with the fixings inside and get some lettuce to wrap up the banh xeo like a taco and then dunk it in the nuoc mam fish sauce. Pretend it’s like French dip roast beef sammie. Anyway, they accept credit cards, too.

Bánh Mì #1 – Menu with Prices – 3212 N Jupiter Rd #136, Garland

24 Banh Mi sandwiches on their menu … 24! And not only do they have a great variety, but they’re really tasty too. Came by with a relative who knows the area and they highly recommended this banh mi location for a quick stop and go lunch. We all ordered different banh mi sandwiches, but I had a chance to try the #1 Dac Biet combination and the #6 Xiu Mai meatball sandwich. First, the baguettes were softer than what I was used to and I really liked that. Instead of scratching the insides of my mouth with the sharp, crispy baguette crust, I was able to bite down easily on their baguettes. As for the #1, although it didn’t seem like it had a lot of meat at first, after a few bites, I was finally able to discover the layers of sliced meats. The #1 was OK and good, but it wasn’t anything unique to me. As for the #6, that was what really wow’d me as I had never eaten a meatball banh mi before and the meatballs were very tasty. I also liked the generous portion inside the baguettes as well. If I were to ever revisit Banh Mi 1, the #6 would definitely be my go to sandwich. Besides the tasty banh mi sandwiches, the price point for the sandwiches surprised me too. They all ranged from $3.25 – $3.75, which is insanely inexpensive in 2019 and makes the sandwiches so worth it. Will I ever be back? Heck yeah if I ever pass by Dallas again.

Sunday In Saigon Menu with Prices 682 N St Asaph St, Alexandria

Came for brunch around 12:00PM in the afternoon with mom & bf. Mom wanted to try a new place and I figured who better to bring to an upscale Vietnamese joint. We chose the AYCE option $38/person to get a sampling of everything. We started off with a few plates, partially because I never know the size of small plates at places. In total as a table we ordered about 17 dishes(Including repeated dishes) here is my breakdown. (Small plates portions are for 1 person) Banh Beo Chen: rice cake was a bit thick and wasn’t oiled well so it was really hard to get out of the dish. Bo Bia vs. Bo Bia Chay: Chay(Veggie) version jicama was a bit crunchier Bo Bia normal was actually pretty good jicama was a lot softer in texture. Goi Cuon tasted similar to the other 2 cuons that it’s hard to say if it was good or not. Banh Tom Co Ngu: Crunchy and you could taste the sweet potato not overly battered good structure didn’t completely break apart and the medium mini shrimp were good also. Appreciated the shrimp in each bite. Mom approved. Cha Gio Ga & Cha Gio Chay: Both tasted pretty similar just the Ga one was a bit saltier. But both were just okay. Pate: chicken pate was really good bit crumbly. Pickled veggies was a nice plus. Only bad thing is that they gave you literally 3 pieces of bread. But Mom approved. Nom Du Du Hoan Kiem: This was actually pretty good. Although mom thought the papaya was a bit too crunchy for her she figured it should have a softer bite. She did like that there was 2 types of jerky in the salad. Bo Ne- steak was tender but a whole lot of butter…it was soaked. But at least there was pate with it..oh and a half a baguette with it. Banh Kot- thicker crepe then I am used to but I did appreciate it was hot had a crispy exterior. BF thought there was a bit too oily . Banh Bao – Surprised…it was actually good, meat was juicy nice slice of Chinese sausage and a half of an egg in it. Outside was nice and fluffy and steaming like burning hot. Which is awesome but it was burning our fingers. Banh Pate So- Not only was the pastry not even hot or crispy it was flat like a pancake and the meat inside was sour…and I mean it was spoiled meat. Mom took a bit and spit it out she was like its Chua…and not in a good way. Even the bf then I took a bit and it sure was. And I’ve eat a spoiled pate so before so I know when pork don’t taste right. Xiu Mai..: so here’s the deal it came on a banh mi as a sandwich…I am not sure if it was cooked cause it was still pink but it was juicy and not sure if it was sour because there was pickled daikon so I guess it was safe. Banh Mi Ga Roti- Probably about 4 thin pieces of chicken. Tasted okay but nothing memorable. Cute sandwich tho. Mi Xao Gion- Flavor was a bit bland but the let down is soggy noodles…that is not okay in a Mi Xao Gion…when the key word in there is “Gion” cause it was like a sponge that soaked all the juice up. But the seafood was cooked well. Com Tam Bi Cha Thit Nuong- Looked good and we got bamboozled. The Pork Loaf was spoiled I took one bite and spit it right out. The BF and mom were scared to even taste the bi because they didn’t know if it was spoiled. I didn’t eat the rice but the bf tasted it and said something wasn’t right either. I tried the Suon Nuong…Even though the menu said pork belly so I am confused as to how we ended up with a pork chop to begin with but it wasn’t bad. Dessert: Che Bap- Mom Approved in her words it’s so hot and good. Good sweetness from the corn and overall balanced flavor with the coconut milk. Frozen Yogurt with Fresh Berries- Mom Approved real fro-yo not faux-gurt. Fruit Salad- mango, blueberry and strawberries with crunchy mint. Nice freshness after our meal. So..you ask why 2 stars…Honestly I don’t like giving less then 3 stars even if my meal was mediocre. However I cannot ignore 2 spoil dishes, a kitchen backup and a lack of prese

Oklahoma City Swing Dance Club – Menu with Prices – 4361 NW 50th St #400, Oklahoma City

Diamond in the rough! What a great discovery! The management is friendly and informative, welcomed us to pop in And watch before deciding to join. Very reasonable prices compared to other formal dance lessons. well qualified instructors who are incredibly talented, yet easy to follow for beginners like myself. The schedule has lots of opportunities for practice and events, and the more experienced club members are so friendly and helpful, inviting beginners to practice which almost counts as another lesson. I was surprised by how modern the music was, and even though I was nervous and out of my element, I had so much fun! I would definitely recommend!
