Bakerbaker is euphoria at its best! If you have a chance, you should definitely pay Amanda’s Traditional Bakeshop a visit. It is located on 4th Ave right behind 2nd Ave Center and across from the UF artHAUS. You will not regret it. The storefront is simple and chic. It really stands out in the tiny shopping center with its minimalist sign and white varnish. The large window gives you an instant preview of the joys there are to come. I opened the door to Bakerbaker to the euphoric aromas of fresh croissants baking with hints of cinnamon in the air. A little boy worked the front counter, making it it a unique experience. The bake shop itself was really small, but I loved how open the space was. Everything was really simple and straight to the point. The baked goods are displayed in the baskets. The bakers bake the baked goods on the countertops and in the ovens behind the display. The simple wood decor and white walls really helped open up the space. I don’t know why, but it felt like I was in Mendl’s Bake Shop (from the Grand Budapest Hotel). The bake shop looked nothing like Mendl’s, but the people (possibly the baker with the beard) and overall vibe just made me feel like I was somewhere other than Gainesville. The staff was warm and inviting. The little boy was knowledgeable and quite helpful. He informed me that the cookies (usually 4 for $2) could be included in the 3 for $5 deal, so I proceeded to choose 4 cookies and two pastries (all for $5, what a steal!) For such a small space, there was so much to choose from! There were muffins, cookies, danishes, croissants, and everything in between. I really could not believe the price and care that went into each little delectable. The pastries were made in smaller batches which really made a difference. I chose the almond and dark chocolate croissants along with two chocolate chip cookies and two Karma cookies (Dates, trail mix, and all kinds of healthy goodies). The croissants were perfectly crispy and were not too buttery. I liked how their croissants did not flake with every bite like how some bakeries make them in the US. These are a bit denser than I am accustomed to, but I love the melt in your mouth quality. The light dust of powdered sugar (on both croissants) really added a nice touch. If you do not have a super sweet tooth, the Karma cookie is the perfect one for you. It is an oatmeal based cookie loaded up with all kinds of healthy things like dried fruits and nuts. Each bite was soft and goey, but with a nice surprise crunch! The chocolate chip cookie was also not too sweet because of the addition of darker chocolate chips. I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Bakerbaker. The service, baked goods, decor, and packaging really adds promise to this business and I hope to see it grow in the years to come. The true cons are the hours here. They are only open Monday-Thursday from 7:00AM to 11:00AM, so plan accordingly. It will be worth the trip!

Tin Pan Bakery – Menu with Prices – 897 Brighton Ave, Portland

Baked goods from a bakery are delicious. Baked goods from a church or school bake sale are equally delicious. From a bakery you know that if you fall in love with something, you can go back again and again and again to get it and it will most likely look and taste the same. You and a thousand of your friends can all go and enjoy that delicious pastry. From a church or school bake sale, you might fall in love with something, be one of only a dozen people to try it, and never have anything like it again. I’ve eaten some delicious things I know came from recipes handwritten on index cards that have been passed down multiple generations. And, there is an unparalleled amount of love that goes into those small batch, homemade baked goods. Where are we going with this? Tin Pan Bakery feels like a church or school bake sale. This might sound stupid, but every.single.thing seems like, looks like, tastes like it was individually made. And nothing I’ve had from here tastes like anything I’ve ever had elsewhere in town. I don’t know what kind of magic is happening, but I’m a fan. Come here and get: 1. The Chocolate Chip Cookies – Regardless if you’re Team Hard Cookie or Team Soft Cookie, you will love these plump baddies. Somehow TPB has created the ultimate chocolate chip cookie that encompasses everything everyone likes (density, texture, chocolate to dough ratio, etc.). 2. THE SAVORY PIES. I’m pretty sure these can’t be vegetarian, and I’m too afraid to ask in case they’re not, but I’ve never had anything like them before. I’ve tried the spinach, caramelized onion, and feta one; I’ve tried the mushroom and roasted garlic one (who doesn’t love big cloves of roasted garlic falling out of perfectly flaky pastry?!). They are so much more filling than you’re expecting. A little sriracha on ’em and you’ve got yourself a mid-morning mouth party. You’re welcome. And also enjoy those reasonable church or school bake sale-esque prices. And also enjoy the friendly church or school bake sale-esque banter with the owner. Beware the parking, though if you’ve ever been to a church or school bake sale then you already know this!

Kizito Cookies – Menu with Prices – 1398 Bardstown Rd, Louisville

Kizito Cookies has become a Louisville institution. You can find the individually packaged cookies and sweet treats at stores all over town, and you know you’re at a good festival or Bats game if you see founder, the always smiling Elizabeth Kizito, selling cookies from the basket placed on top of her head. And during Bardstown Road Aglow over the weekend, I got to go into the store where all the sweet magic happens. Happy bonus: Elizabeth Kizito was making the cookies herself when I stopped in! This small shop carries an array of African goods, like jewelry, ornaments and more. Love seeing this shop reflect Elizabeth’s different passions. But the cookies! Oh the cookies! The Snickerdoodles had just come out of the oven, so my husband and I had to get one of those to enjoy on our walk back to our house. Other favorites include the chocolate chip, white chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal and black and white cookies. And don’t forget about the peanut butter blondies with chocolate brownies and biscotti. These baked goods are always soft and delicious, not to mention huge. One cookie will likely do ya. And since they’re individually wrapped, they make great gift basket additions. When you need a sweet treat for yourself or others, Kizito Cookies is always a great call.

Seven Stars Bakery – Menu with Prices – 820 Hope St, Providence

Whenever I’m in Providence, I stop by at one of the Seven Stars Bakeries, but I really like this one on Hope Street (mostly because I can park in front and run in). They have a killer chocolate chip cookie — not like a super sweet loaded with chocolate cookie that’s a 1,000 calories. These cookies are chewy, soft, not too sweet, about the size of palm, not too much chocolate, and they have an old school bakery flavor that’s hard to describe. It’s the taste that warms me up and makes me feel happy. And, my husband feels the same way. When you see the chocolate chip cookie, it’s not a sexy gooey look, but more of a “here I am, your favorite cookie” kind of thing. Clearly this cookie is underrated because people go for the croissants and bread and lemon cake, but try the chocolate chip cookie and transport yourself back in time.

Crumbles Cookies – Menu with Prices – 1191 Magnolia Ave Suite C, Corona

This place honestly has the best cookies around, 100%. The cookies are all baked fresh every day and they even have “day old” cookies on sale for cheaper (which are still good). The cookies are on the pricier side, but they’re definitely worth it. Pretty much every cookie I’ve had has been just a great flavor and texture with just the right amount of sweetness. And the cookies are relatively large. They do switch up a couple options on the menu, so while they definitely have their main staples, they do have some seasonal items that aren’t around forever. I’ve had a Lavender Oatmeal cookie from them that I loved but haven’t seen since. Pretty much every cookie is great, although I will say I appreciate all the different oatmeal cookie options without raisins. I can confidently say I do love oatmeal cookies now. Everyone who works here is also just as sweet as their baked goods. You’ll always get good customer service coming here. I would for sure recommend coming here for your cookie needs.

The Sweet Shoppe At Porters Neck – Menu with Prices – 134 Beawood Rd #9104, Wilmington

It’s not often you can go to a bakery and get truly home-baked goods that remind you of your mom’s cooking. The Sweet Shoppe does that and more. I spoke to the owner, Kim, to order a birthday cake for my aunt who is in a nursing facility, and Kim could not have been more accommodating or helpful in picking out a giant cookie for my aunt. The cookie was outstandingly delicious, with a wonderful blend of flavor and sweetness, saying Happy Birthday Aunt Frances on it. Nothing was overwhelming and everything was baked to perfection. She customized the cookie and also customized a bunch of individual cookies. All her baked goods are beautiful, appetizing, and scrumptious. The customer service was such a pleasant experience, I would never consider going anywhere else for any occasion.

Sweet Bacon Therapy Menu with Prices 113 Everett Rd, Albany

It a good thing I’m already attending therapy (physical), otherwise the baked goods from Sweet Bacon Therapy might send me there. Between appointments I stopped by SBT to check them out after Suzanne H. clued me in. There were five different items available in five baskets on a table next to the counter where sales for the other business occupying this address, The Healing Meals, take place. I bought one of each item available. Generally, the cost is $3 for each baked good. The Donut Holes are listed at $5, but I was only charged $3. Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookie – approximately 4 inches in diameter and ¾ inches thick, this is a very heavy cookie with a good amount of chips. The bottom was extremely brown (not yet burned) and crispy but the center was under baked. You can see bits of bacon in the cookie, but it was the 2nd least favorite of my wife who said she got more of a bacon grease flavor than actual bacon. I didn’t identify with any grease flavor but didn’t think the bacon flavor was that obvious. Bacon Smores Chocolate Chip Cookie – same size as the other cookie and a little less sweet than the other, and similarly very brown on the bottom, but fully baked through. Minimal bacon flavor once again for my taste. Bacon Chocolate Chip Brownie – my wife’s least favorite as she still could not identify much bacon flavor except when she actually bit into a small piece of bacon. I agree that I was still looking for more bacon flavor and would have liked a less cakey texture and a more chewy and moist experience. Just my preference. Bacon Chocolate Chip Donut Muffin – smart that they add “muffin” to the label because the texture was not what I expect from even a cake doughnut. I’m still looking for that real nice bacon flavor that seemed so fleeting even as this was the very first of all their baked goods I tasted. Bacon Chocolate Chip Donut Holes – I saved this one for last to comment on because it was actually my favorite. It had a good doughnut texture, the right amount of sweetness, a nice glaze on the outside, and believe it or not, finally, just enough bacon flavor to meet my minimal desire. I actually thought they could be addictive enough to require therapy. My wife, on the other hand, sees no need for me to go back to SBT for more baked goods. I seriously can’t say I’ve had better baked bacon goods, so I have to go above 2 stars.

The Girls Who Bake Next Door – Menu with Prices – 210 Iolani Ave #1, Honolulu

I know The Girls Who Bake Next Door have a food truck–and you can follow their schedule on Instagram–but I actually went to their store front. I was craving chocolate chip cookies, and since I passed by the store once before and knew where the Girls were, I dropped by one Friday morning. I didn’t check Instagram beforehand, so I was fortunate during my visit that they had their traditional chocolate chip cookies. If you’re looking for a specific flavor, be sure to check IG: they have a list of their flavors for the day. Anyway, since I was the only customer there, I could sort of take my time ordering. I didn’t want to take too long, though, because the team was busy preparing for a special order/event and it looked like they were busy. The entire store smelled so good! I bought four cookies (and ate them all the same day), but being in the store made me want to buy everything I saw! The cookie deal was a good one, though – four cookies for $5. Definitely would return and recommend them to others. I also would visit their food truck if they were close to me one day. Here’s what I got: “Chocolate Chip”: There’s nothing better than a warm, comforting chewy cookie that’s loaded with chocolate chips. I love how this cookie was thin and small, but it wasn’t crispy and overly crunchy. It also contained a good amount of chocolate chips. “Chocolate Chip Mac Nut”: Surprisingly, this ended up being my favorite of all the cookies I got … and it was surprising because I usually don’t go for the cookies with nuts. I tend to be simple when it comes to cookies. But I loved the texture and flavor this cookie brought. The mac nuts balanced the sweeter chocolate chips perfectly. The mac nuts also added some welcome crunch and texture without being overwhelming. “Oatmeal Coconut Chocolate Chip”: This was the only cookie that made it home for my family to try, but they liked the different flavors. The oatmeal cookie texture made this cookie a little grittier, and it didn’t taste as sweet as the others because it had coconut as well as chocolate. “Chocolate and Peanut Butter Chip”: I was interested to see how the blend between peanut butter and chocolate would work out. The peanut butter flavor wasn’t as intense/strong as I had hoped, but this cookie was still delicious. It was still nice to get a hint of peanut butter in there. “Peanut Butter Toffee”: This cookie wasn’t available during my particular visit, but I do want to try it one day because I love toffee. It’ll be interesting to see how it melds with the peanut butter, but I cannot wait to try it.

Indiana Mexican Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1419 N Wells St, Fort Wayne

Going into the Mexican bakery after visiting Hyde Brothers’ Books across the street has become something of a tradition for me. The place has a ‘stepping back in time’ vibe to it, and the aromas the hit you as soon as you walk in are wonderful. The selection of fresh baked goods is a bit overwhelming, and includes cookies, cupcakes, bread, rolls, buns, pastries, turnovers, and a number of others items. It’s very much a ‘serve yourself’ bakery, just ask for a set of tongs and a tray and have at it. Prices are surpringly low, I bought a fresh cookie and a roll, each bigger than my outstretched hand, for $1.50. Both were delicious. Be sure to look around the store at the overall inventory, the shop has much more to offer than tasty bake goods.

Sharp Cookie – Menu with Prices – 5380 N Mesa St, El Paso

I’m not a butter cookie type of gal. Most of the time, I think they’re tolerable. But I was really impressed with this store’s cookies. First, the shop is simple and cookies are displayed very professionally. Second, the customer service was friendly and informative. She explained that a lot of custom orders were made and that the assortment of cookie designs could be found on their website/facebook. At the store, you can get cookies to eat and even get regular cookies (without designs). I picked up a day old $0.75 Pecan Noir cookie and it was deliciously chewy, like it was fresh. Their cookies are beautifully designed too – almost like they’re factory made but it is clear that each is hand-made since the customer service rep was in the middle of icing a cookie when she saw us come in. Naturally, I figured that such bright, perfect-looking cookies were probably horrendous tasting. No. They give out samples to people who come into the store so that you can taste what the cookies are like. The ratio of icing to cookie is perfect (a thin layer of icing) and more of the soft cookie. Neither the icing nor the cookie were too sweet. I loved it and I’m not even a butter cookie person. In most store-bought decorated cookies, the cookies are hard and tasteless and the icing is way too thick so that you break your teeth to bite through the cookie. No thanks. I’ll be coming to Sharp Cookie for my future decorated cookie needs.

The Sugar Cookie – Menu with Prices – 10960 S Eastern Ave ste 109, Henderson

Amazing place for sugar cookies. The quality of the cookies are simply superb and the variety too.I really love all the chocolate cookies , specially the double chocolate. The coconut , lemon and original cookie are also fantastic.Maybe the one I don’t care the most is the red velvet cake. They have samples of all their cookies so making choices would be easy.Service is top notch and location has plenty of space and parking around.Totally recommended if you have a sweet tooth and you’re looking for quality cookies.

Crumbl Cookies – Mesa East – Menu with Prices – 5842 E Longbow Pkwy, Mesa

I tried this place for the first time yesterday and they did NOT disappoint! They have 4 rotating flavors, plus chocolate chip and frosted sugar that are the staples. It’s true that they are a bit on the expensive side, with four cookies costing just over $11 with tax, but they are HUGE and definitely shareable — well worth it, if you ask me. When I got my first batch of cookies yesterday, I got the nutella sea salt, chilled twix, raspberry cheesecake, and cinnamon toast. Mind you, I’ve only had half of the chilled twix, but it was really good! The cookie itself was very soft and crumbly, even if most of the flavor came from the top of the cookie (where the twix bit was). I will update the review as I try other kinds! Some of the other reviews mention that the cookies tasted gooey or underdone. If that’s the case, I didn’t notice… that’s how I like (and bake) my cookies anyway. As for the line and the place itself: the shop is TINY and there were SO MANY PEOPLE there, it was hard to take a full breath. The staff were nice and friendly and, for as crazy busy as it was inside, the line moved pretty quick. The place is also *spotless* which is super impressive with how busy they seem to be. I had a lot of trouble hearing the gal at the register, but she made an effort to make sure we understood each other and that I got what I wanted. I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you haven’t and will totally be back to try more flavors.

Bagel Place Menu with Prices 3301 Bell St, Amarillo

A family-owned business that does bagels better than anyone in town. They also have croissants and other baked goods. Many different kinds of bagels, along with several different kinds of cream cheese toppings. They do breakfast bagels and croissants, and also bagel sandwiches for lunch. If they have any leftovers at the end of the day, they are packaged and sold at a good discount. They have a drive thru window, but because your order is made when you order it, the drive thru is usually a little slow. Trust me, either go in and place your order or just wait in the drive thru a little while. It’s definitely worth the wait!
