My husband and I ate at a couple of â??highly ratedâ? Erie area restaurants during a recent vacation and let me say that Annapurna Kitchen totally blew them out of the water! Amazing chicken flautas served in mole sauce! Delectable and crispy duck served with fresh julienned apples and a sort of marinated onion for only $14.99!! The owner served us and was so very gracious and informative. We were impressed to say the very least and will definitely be back again when in town! Restaurants like Annapurna deserve your patronage. You wonâ??t be disappointed!

A Taste of Thai Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 915 W Moana Ln, Reno

Though I knew of its longtime existence on South Lakeside, for some reason I’d never visited A Taste of Thai. With its recent move to a West Moana location, I figured it was high time I rounded up the ladies–and my favorite young foodie twins–to check it out. Fusion ($17) is an appetizer sampler of five favorites, served with cucumber salad, peanut sauce, and sweet and sour sauce. The salad was a good mix of cucumber, celery, and purple onion, dressed with seasoned rice vinegar and herbs; the small serving left us wanting more. The bright red sweet and sour was pretty standard, but the spicy peanut sauce was exceptional. Marinated skewers of chicken satay were lightly grilled, with a texture much softer than expected. Perhaps the marinade worked overtime. Gari paab is reminiscent of empanada, a deep-fried wrapper filled with mashed potato, onion, and curry powder. Cruncy, a little sweet, and really good with the peanut sauce. Two of each item were included, save for a khanom bueang that overtook one corner of the plate. This crispy crepe made with rice and mung bean flour was filled with shrimp, chicken, coconut, tofu, bean sprout, scallion, and ground peanut. Sort of a large, delicious Thai taco. Deep-fried spring rolls of noodles, cabbage, celery, taro, and carrot were crunchy and fresh, and the seafood Rangoon cream cheese puffs were filled with perceptible amounts of shrimp and imitation crab. The boys enjoyed the last two enough we ordered additional plates of both (spring rolls $8, Rangoon $9). Entrees are served with a bowl of rice. Big meaty chunks of roasted ginger duck ($18) were tossed in seasoned oil with fresh ginger, bell pepper, onion, carrot, and mushroom. Though the skin wasn’t the crispy sort I love, the meat itself would satisfy any waterfowl fan. Next, a plate of spicy green bean salmon ($18), chunks of filet fried in an interesting ground chicken crust, with green bean and carrot sauteed in chili paste. The veggies were very fresh, and though swimming in a fair amount of seasoned oil, the spicy flavor was solid. One boy said he wanted pad thai with shrimp–a favorite of mine–then made a last minute switch and ordered tofu instead ($12). The mix of slightly broad rice noodle, egg, browned bean curd, bean sprout, scallion, and tamarind sauce–with julienned carrot and ground peanut on the side–was a bit sweeter than my preference, but absolutely the real deal. Fortunate, since the kid didn’t love it and I took it home for a pretty nice lunch. Green curry avocado ($14) was a first for me, but the sweet/spicy sauce was perfect spooned over rice, along with plenty of chunky ripe avocado, zucchini, green bean, pea, carrot, bell pepper, and chicken. The meat had the “velveted” texture common with Chinese cooking, and the big pieces of avocado really made the dish. We rounded out the meal with “Beef Flame” ($15), a sauteed combination of marinated beef in red wine sauce with onion, mushroom, bell pepper, and fresh cilantro. It was dramatically delivered–sizzling and bubbling on cast iron–akin to fajitas. The flavors and veg were great, though the beef was slightly overcooked. Overall the quality of our experience made obvious the reason for the restaurant’s longevity.

What’s for Supper? – Menu with Prices – 3053 Leeman Ferry Rd SW, Huntsville

It’s really a catering company and “take and reheat” restaurant quality meals. You preorder and pick up Monday evenings. Weekly menus are ready on Wednesday. Love it! ***Actual Review**** What’s for Supper has been a blessing for me. In providing easy to reheat, and eat **right** then, restaurant quality cooking, Walter (owner/chef) has been a HUGE help in my efforts to provide delicious meals for my elderly mom. I’ve tried other places in town with similar concepts, but Walter’s food is so much fresher tasting (well, that would make sense: it’s not frozen!) and seasoned well. Just good food. You sign up on their web site for their weekly e-mail which comes out on Wed. Pick what you want, and pick up the following Mon. after 4:30 PM and before 6:00 PM at the Leeman Ferry location. Last week, upon my first try, Walter was still cooking the pork, so he is back there busting it. I enjoyed the few minutes of down time that the “waiting on the pork” provided. He offers “Zone-compatible meals” and “Not Zone – and really good food” selections (as well as a complete Easter dinner for your family and wedding/corporate/other catering). I think you get a discount on the 5 meal package. Walter is happy to make substitutions, such as subbing mashed potatoes for cous cous and taking a zone meal and making it vegetarian. His staff is smiling, friendly and offered me a taste of the cous cous when I mentioned that I happen to like it, but Mom doesn’t. : -) These descriptions correspond with the uploaded pictures (just now). -Raisin/apple stuffed pork loin – with a stuffing featuring shallots, bacon, raisins, apples and more, this is delicious. Served with baked mashed potatoes with scallions, sour cream and cheese. -Coq au vin – we really enjoy this lovely dish designed for dealing with a tough, old rooster, but really delicious with a fresh hen. A Burgundian specialty. Served with broccoli salad with raisins and bacon. -Chicken pesto – marinated chicken tenders, tossed with basil pesto, and coated with our marinara and mozzarella, served with salad and vinaigrette. -Beef kabobs – marinated sirloin chunks grilled with mushrooms, red bell peppers, tomatoes and served with tzatziki (yogurt, cucumber, mint sauce) and couscous. -Marinated pork and chicken, grilled and julienned, fajita style with seasoned onions and peppers – pork, chicken, onions, red and green bell peppers, olive oil, soy-based marinade and spices. This (above) was the “5 meals (suppers for 1) – for $55 + tax, payable with paypal, or, I’m sure other methods. The portions are fairly generous, and actually make more than 1 meal for my mom, so it works out to be really reasonable especially for the quality of food. TIP: when you place your order online, type exactly what you are ordering (including special requests/substitutions). WFD’s web site indicates the “ready made meals” are freezer compatible and the packaging includes the name of the dish, ingredients and I think calories (for Zone meals) and any special reheat instructions. I haven’t frozen anything yet. Today, I’m getting the following: -Grilled tilapia over orzo with lemon butter sauce -Grilled half chickens -Cuban pork chops with mojo sauce and fried plantains -Roast chicken salad -Cajun meat loaf served with collard greens. – mac and cheese for one – and paella with chick/sausage/shrimp for two Their web site is really worth perusing. Walter’s FB page shows him cooking in Italy and other foreign locations – so, a real pro. Try What’s for supper, I can’t figure out why I didn’t know about them since they’ve apparently been in business since 09.

Whittier Fruit Farm – Menu with Prices – 219 Whittier Rd, Rochester

I am very particular about my apples, I prefer Snapdragon and Ruby Frost. If you like Honeycrisp apples, you will like these. Not many orchards grow them since they are newer. I was super excited to find out Whittier Fruit Farm had them for picking, I found out on Facebook. They are quite active on there. As you walk up to the barn, there is a play area filled with fisher price playhouses. It is kind of sad and funny at the same time. Imagine the scene in Nemo where all the fishes play on the sponge bed. You grab a bucket which is already lined with a bag and board the tractor. It was quite a bumpy ride. We passed a pumpkin patch and then dropped off to pick apples. Each row is labeled with the type of apple. The tractor comes back around to pick everyone up once they are done. The apples are weighed once you get back. The is where my problem starts. Apparently you should keep track of which apples are which. You will not know how much they cost until you get to the register and the cashier tells you. There are not signs anywhere beforehand. The store has popcorn, donuts, cider, and pre-picked apples for sale. I would come back here because they have my favorite apples.

Santa Fe Meats – Menu with Prices – 2514 Main St, Chula Vista

Wow, what Happened??? First off I knew the moment I walked in there was something different! Everything rearranged. I walked up to the meat counter and two dudes, What happened to the original butchers? I am a native to San Diego and have been coming here for a pile of years. Infact when I opened my 1993 Restaurant of the year award winning restaurant in the “San Diego Magazine”, I would buy a 100 lbs a week of “Skirt Steak Marinated” from them because I could never figure out the receipt. I asked the dude behind the counter “Did the ownership change” Yes, but it’s the same. Sorry Bro not at all!!! I looked at the meat cabinet, the flap meat did not look fresh? I asked for three pounds ” Marinated” normally the butchers would ask if you wanted that way. Now the have it already that way. When he pulled the meat, placed it in a plastic bag and poured some kind of liquid into it. WTF!!! Before the fellas would cut the meat fresh, take it in the back to marinate it and bring it back. Not that way anymore. The whole placed was changed around. The tortillas, are not fresh, the ingredients to make “Carne Asada” Tacos, the cilantro, wilted, fresh salsa, not the same. nothing like it was before. So, when I reach counter Here is the new owner, should have guessed. Middle eastern dude, I asked if he was the new owner Yes! What Happened, The original owner became an alcoholic. What???? Said he has owned this place for 50 yr’s. SOB, no way, the dude would have had to owned it when he was 10 yr’s old. Folks, If you used to go there, You will be disappointed Big League! As far as the meat taste, grilled. That taste and freshness GONE!! RIP! sorry to see this one of a kind Butcher shop destroyed. DT

J&F Caribbean Delight – Menu with Prices – 1686 N Atwood Dr, Macon

J&F is /was my favorite take-out, the food is delicious. The preparation is / was excellent. If I ain’t cooking I’m ordering J&F Caribbean take-out; it is /was excellent restaurant,……BUT lately their customer service have been very, very poor, the young lady don’t smile, gotta a lil jazzy attitude, don’t greet you or tell you thank-you when you shopping with them. When I 1st started going there they were very polite and gracious. I guess I’ve spent too much money with them and they don’t need patronage anymore. I’ll take my business elsewhere!!! Let me tell you about most black businesses. MOST( I did say “most” not ALL) black businesses conduct their business as a “trap house”. They treat the majority of their customers as if they were vagrants, dope fiends, and/or drunks. Then wonder why their own kind won’t support them. THEIR ARROGANCE OFFENDS ME.

Ali Mediterranean Grill | Gyro-Kabob-Seafood – Menu with Prices – 1532 S Pine Ave, Ocala

This is THE BEST Schwarma and gyros in Florida! It is a MOST celebrated treat to see Halal meat served in Florida! What a difference in taste between Halal and other meat! The gyros are FABULOUS! The lamb is perfectly cooked. The tzatziki sauce is simply yummy!! The fries are super! My husband comes from an area in Canada known for their Mideastern food. This feels like I am back in Canada! Kibbeh will be added to the menu soon–cannot wait to try it! Also can’t wait to try their homemade falafel! Mike, the owner is a gracious and as kind as can be. His employees are lovely! You can’t beat the prices there–and the serving size is very generous. What a MOST WELCOME addition it is to have an authentic Mideastern restaurant in this town!

Kilwins Jacksonville – Menu with Prices – 10281 Mid Town Pkwy Ste 125, Jacksonville

Everything about kilwins screams sugar paradise, from the smell as soon as you walk in of all the fudge and caramel apples to brightly smile faces of the associates. I have never had a bad time here and I feel as though anyone would be able to find something they liked in this store. I love trying thee different samples of fresh fudge they have set on top of the display cases for easy access. It’s especially cool because you can see the chocolatier making more right behind the case! Their ice cream is at the back of the store and is some of the best in town!It can be served in a traditional cone, a handmade waffle cone which is stamped with their name on the side for whimsy, or in a bowl. Their worse keep secret is also one of my favorite excuses for date night, their BOGO ice cream on Waffle Cone Wednesdays! I love going out with my fiancee, grabbing waffle cones with either a new flavor (I had the cappuccino chip this last time) or an old classic chocolate and just walking around the town center and window shopping.

Novel Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 1028 Grand Ave #6, Phoenix

Novel Ice Cream is, in a single word, delicious. Read on to hear see the rest of the story, but the short version is this: this is incredible ice cream; personally served by a gracious and knowledgeable owner. Each flavor is unique and everything tasted delicious. I would go all in and get the ice cream served on the donut for a truly spectacular experience. . . Arizona during the summer gets hot and nothing beats a cool scoop of ice cream. As such, I am always on the hunt for new and interesting places to get a frozen scoop of deliciousness. A quick Google of best ice cream shops in Arizona revealed to my friend and I that Novel was not just one of the best ice creams in Arizona, but very likely, the best ice cream in the U.S. We had to try it.. . When we arrived Saturday evening there was already the start of a line. Given all the accolades this physically small (maybe a few hundred square feet) ice cream shop was getting a line was expected. However, do not despair, the line moves quickly, the people are friendly, and the entire time anticipation builds for what was going to be a delicious scoop (or two). . . When it was our turn in line, we found the owner personally scooping ice cream for customers. He greeted each one of us, was incredibly gracious, and was extremely knowledgeable about this product. â??Our bacon comes from hereâ?¦this is a 16% butterfat mixtureâ?¦our donuts are created specifically for us to create these sandwiches.â? He encouraged us to try different flavor options. Even though there was a line out the door, the owner took time to make conversation and introduced himself personally (as did my friends and I). . . I chose the Burbon coffee toffee and the bright blue cookie monster. Once we received our dessert my friends and I went outside and started tasting. It was more delicious then we could have imagined. Incredible flavor and texture the perfect treat for a hot summers evening. I will be back!

WONJO Korean Cuisine Menu with Prices 515 W Fireweed Ln, Anchorage

Good Korean food in Anchorage! Who knew! Won Jo has a soft spot in my heart. The food served here is plain Jane, simple, Korean food that tastes like a Korean mother made in her kitchen. By no means is this anything close to haute cuisine, but the sort of food that you would get if you went to your Korean friend’s house for dinner. My parents and I came here twice to eat. In our two visits we had chicken bulgogi, beef bulgogi, bibimbap, doenjan jjigae (soybean soup), and soon tofu (tofu soup). All were very good and we had no complaints. My favorite item from Won Jo is their marinated tofu that comes as a banchan (side dish). It is oh so delicious! I could eat it up all day long. Because tofu is a bit of a luxury item in Anchorage, they couldn’t give me as much free refills as I would have liked (that you normally get in a Korean restaurant), but I was still very happy that they did give me an additional refill of marinated tofu. The service is prompt and friendly. If you’re looking for good simple Korean food because you’re tired of eating salmon, Won Jo is the place to go.

Danny’s Deli Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 10838 Warwick Blvd, Newport News

Just had a horrible experience! We are 50 year patrons and I can’t believe what just happened. We ordered a standard Rueben sandwich on rye and it was delivered with the least amount of meat possible. We were really hungry when we arrived so we were looking forward to a nice sandwich. The sandwich was delivered and I commented on the fact that I didn’t see any meat. My guest finished the first half and opened up the second and there was one piece of meat about two inches squared. Meat almost non existent. When I looked at mine and my other guests’ sandwich, it was very similar. We asked the waitress about the deficiency and she told the owner Ellie. Ellie came to the table, and we relayed the same and showed her. She actually said “why didn’t you tell me before you ate the first half?”. I was appalled! Don’t know what she was implying, but I have been to thousands of restaurants and have NEVER been treated like that before. It was obvious that this is the way they make their sandwiches because all of the other sandwiches at our table were almost identical. I have probably eaten over a hundred reuben sandwiches at restaurants and this ranks at the rock bottom….LAST! It’s unfortunate, because the replacement half that they brought us was perfect. It had more meat piled on it than all three sandwiches combined. She was not gracious, she was rude and accusatory. Not the way an owner should act nor treat patrons. It is probably time to sell this to another owner, because this one has lost all sense of customer service. Our family has been nothing but supportive of Danny’s over the decades, and you would think, that a 50 year patron would garner some respect. Not today…Just terrible!

Wiener Works – Menu with Prices – 3402 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville

So my hubby decided he’d take me to Fayetteville from Fuquay Varina for a nice, relaxing ride to take me to one of my favorite eating spots when I lived there. I’m disabled & I can’t go into restaurants like we used to do when we’d go on date nights. So we ordered through the drive through window to bring home to eat. We had to park & wait a few minutes because most of the order was made fresh which was fine with us. We were hungry & decided to eat our hot dogs before hitting the road again, but were disappointed because although the Wiener Works cashier was really nice & the food, for the most part, was fresh, the hot dogs tasted like they’d been sitting in water a long time. However; the chili burgers, deluxe burgers & onion rings were fresh which is why I gave them a 4 rating. Otherwise, they would’ve gotten a 5. Still, one of my favorite spots!

Pier 55 Lounge – Menu with Prices – 1225 Toronto Rd, Springfield

Love, love, love this place! I can’t say enough good things about it! Went in after my daughter’s volleyball tournment, since I was staying at the Baymont across the street. It’s the second time I’ve been there and I’ve never been disappointed. I met the owners while I was there and they were friendly and gracious folks. Even bought me a couple of drinks. The customers and the bartender were very friendly. They made me feel like I was a regular. Went back in the next am when I had a break between games and it was same way. Just one other customer in there and we had a great time with bartender and owner. Would definitely recommend and go there again, when in Springfield. Also, Uncle Gravely is way cool. Can’t tell you too much about him…I can’t let the cat out of the bag!
