I think it’s time. I have been a patron for many years. I love the owners, at least the ones I have met. First they get 5 stars for their hires. I love each and everyone of the baristas. They are all unique and have fabulous individual personalities. Even though I am a regular it pains me to have to review Tazza as such. First of all I must say that Tazza is a neighborhood institution and it is jamming in the morning. I love the fact that the business seems to be thriving at least at that time of the day. The baked goods are amazing. They are almost always beautifully presented. I think the coffee is probably one of the best in the neighborhood. I say this because I like a mild blend of coffee. It is not acidic nor bitter. It simply lives on your palette; mild and soothing. So why 3 stars? This is a tough business. No doubt. Tazza has added to their menu, reduced their menu, added to the refrigerated area, reduced products in that area. That’s not an issue. I think it’s a healthy way to try new product and eliminate that which does not work. Sometimes product resonates, other times they don’t. Tastes change. In addition, reading the public’ s needs is always daunting. The menu was recently reduced or at least changed. I actually like the tightened menu. Overall Tazza tries very hard. What doesn’t work is the inconsistency in the beautifully handpicked variety of baked goods with the crumb laden tables. On a number of occasions there is down time where the baristas are not busy yet the tables are still not wiped down. Although the utensils are beautifully wrapped in a napkin, they almost always seem to be unclean. The funny part is that they are clean but look unattended. Either the dishwasher doesn’t work well or the utensils are just old. I think the utensils are just old because i have attempted to remove the stains with water. There is so much potential here. Considering there are so many places to have coffee, I think a Tazza customer is loyal. Having run businesses before, I understand that there are always reasons for businesses to underperform. A re-evaluation from top to bottom is in order. I would never give up on Tazza because I think there are better things to come here. At least I hope so. I would love to desperately change this to 5 stars because Tazza is capable and has many advantages. I am your cheerleader and will continue to be a customer.

Savory Bake House – Menu with Prices – 3008 36th Ave S, Minneapolis

Come here for unique, flavorful baked goods. I usually stop in on Sunday mornings when I am in the area and whenever I go I find something new and completely unique to this bakery. Everything I have tried has been great, but I especially love all of their savory baked goods. However do not make the mistake of coming here late in the day. I have arrived to find most of the goods picked over and I once even found the shop closed because they were all sold out! Also, do not expect to come here, sit down with a cup of coffee and your baked goods while watching the world go by. There is nowhere to sit in the tiny shop so you’ll have to take your baked goods elsewhere! Definitely put this small bakeshop on your bucket list!

Queens Coffee Bar – Menu with Prices – 1720 Pegram St, Charlotte

Love stopping by this adorable cafe! It’s a super cute and quiet cafe that opened up in the Belmont neighborhood (pretty much adjacent to Plaza Midwood) I think it’s a perfect little addition to the diverse and changing neighborhood. Customer service always gets me leaving with a smile on my face even on “those” days when you really need a coffee or a pick-me-up. Let’s talk about their menu: + Lots of non dairy options such as: Soy, Almond, Hemp, Coconut and Oat Milk- this is HUGE! + Lots of different drink options such as: Teas, Coffees, Smoothies, Kombucha + Baked goods and pastries: Donuts, Cakes, Muffins, Bagels, etc (I’ve even seen Gluten Free options available!) If you love supporting local businesses, this is a must! Stop by on your way to work, heading into Plaza Midwood, before grocery shopping and it’ll be worth your taste buds! PS, the Spiced Chai Latte is my favorite drink and they make it BOMB.COM (non-dairy version, of course)

Caeli’s Sweets, Eats and Bar – Menu with Prices – 726 W Sheridan Ave, Oklahoma City

Excellent service, fresh food and delicious baked goods. The staff are always kind and appreciative towards the patrons. The custom-made poke bowls have fresh ingredients and make for great healthy lunch options. The sandwiches are also very good and I always try the different baked goods that they have each day. You have to keep in mind that this is a family-owned business so not all of the baked goods are available every day, and when they run out, they run out so get them while you can! I appreciate the kind attitudes and fresh food. It’s these kind of businesses that I choose to support because they care about their patrons and take pride in their quality ingredients and service.

The Crooked Mile at Rosemont – Menu with Prices – 428 Brighton Ave, Portland

I sure hope when this place reopens they raise the quality of their food and coffee. It’s in a great location for many of us, but but I will usually go an extra distance to get better coffee and for sure better baked goods. I’m not sure where the baked goods come from but it would be great if they would source some local bakeries like standard baking and roses bagels or Union bagels. HiFi donuts would be great! And the coffee is fine enough, but totally mediocre.

Peregrine Espresso – Menu with Prices – 1718 14th St NW, Washington

I work a block away at another small business on 14th street which makes writing this review all the more sad. I want to love this place. It would make getting coffee during work hours so convenient and easy. I’ve tried getting coffee here so many times and have been extremely disappointed every time. The team at peregrine needs to learn how to deep clean the coffee and espresso machines- the taste of poorly maintained equipment is so distinct. Additionally, there is an equally distinct burnt taste – I’m not sure if the temperature settings are too high or if the problem is the fault of the roaster of the beans. In any case, save your money and walk a couple blocks in either direction – the wydown to the north or compass coffee to the south are much better options. Heck Starbucks is a better option. That being said, the baked goods are phenomenal. If only the coffee were palatable. â?

Cafe Peanut – Menu with Prices – 586 Newark Ave, Jersey City

This is a generous 4 stars, added star for great customer service. Food and coffee themselves are at a standard 3 stars with very little creativity and basic needs met for the gentrified latte. I’ve ordered sandwiches and salads here, baked goods like croissants, and have had iced Chai and iced lattes as well as nutella latte. I’m rating for scarcity sake and convenience. They have San pelligrino, salads to go if you have a long work day, want a sweet nutella something? Here you go. Full disclosure: I’ve worked for incredible and popular coffeeshops in Chicago and love coffee not just as a past time, but as a ritual and a history. This neighborhood has been yearning for a coffeeshop, specifically on this stretch of Newark. The interior design is a hodgepodge — darker than I anticipated with curation of silly hip animals mixed with black and white historical photography, tufted leather, red metal industrial seating. The seating is comfortable and table space is ample. You’re greeted by a friendly owner who chats up patrons upon entrance and is quite kind. The downfall? The coffee is just okay. The curation falls short. They have homemade donuts but the rest of the cakes and baked goods are from where? Bought at a mainstream grocery store? Cost Co? Balthazar? At hipster locations these details are crucial. There’s a lack of gluten free dessert options too. I asked for an iced latte with nutella and was told that wasn’t possible. It’s possible. You mix nutella with a shot of hot milk, then ice it with your shot of espresso, and add more milk. Speaking of milks, there are great options and substitutes here — oak and almond to name a few. The extra polished awareness of coffee isn’t there. $5.50 a latte and $14.50 for avocado mash with sunny egg is unrealistic when the boutique coffeeshop on palisade has a far more inventive menu(roasted sweet potato, lentils, roasted veggies, & chimichurri for $12) with cheaper iced drinks. A Greek salad that’s mostly iceberg lettuce without any switching it up or grape leaves felt again like a reach and overpriced at $12. It tasted nice, but wasn’t imaginative. Various coffeeshops in Brooklyn that double as quirky florists have roasted beet or grilled chicken salads, in-house made gluten free pastry, can ask for that $5 latte but actually don’t. Damn, spaces in grove st. such as Lackawanna don’t. I don’t think Cafe Peanut can either. The service is topnotch and the menu is standard base for components and taste but nothing stands out, food isn’t necessarily unique. The ambiance is sweet and totally comfortable place for after school studying or a nice meeting with a friend, which this neighborhood needs. Overall, 3 stars with crossed fingers and hopes for improvement.

Sara Lee Bakery – Menu with Prices – 6766 W Glendale Ave, Glendale

Bakery outlet stores used to be a more popular place to shop for fresh but reduced items. Thankfully there are still some left, this location is one of the better ones. The reason for four stars instead of five stars, is because some of the items are definetly reduced, particularly the organic items. Other items are however, at retail or possibly just above retail.

Dexter Grinds – Menu with Prices – 12041 Dexter Ave, Detroit

This is my neighborhood cafe. I cannot fully express in a review how positive this place is as a neighborhood institution. The staff is welcoming and friendly, genuinely appreciative of your business. The space is warm and comfortable, you can come in find a quiet corner and hop on wifi to work, host a small community meeting, or engage a lively discussion with the shop regulars. Plenty of seating, a few couches, and an expanding menu. Great coffee, great smoothies, and blended beverages. I have found myself downtown a time or two wanting coffee and decided to come back to the neighborhood for it. Hands down my favorite coffee shop in the city. Love LOVE this place.

Tres Leches Bakery and Cafe – Menu with Prices – 6903 St Andrews Rd, Columbia

This is one of those special bakeries that just make a Tres Leches cake the way it should be made! Don’t the let the simple look of this bakery fool you, it is loaded with very delicious Latin/Hispanic baked goods. My wife got me a Tres Leches cake for my birthday here and I was absolutely WOWed by how delicious it was! It wasn’t too moist or too dry, and the whip cream frosting was not over sweetened! Also, the strawberries used in my cake we’re fresh and added a little tang to what was an already awesome cake! The people here are very friendly and speak both English and Spanish. I have tried some other baked goods here like cupcakes and their Pan Dulce, and they all taste like they were made with high quality ingredients! Just FYI, they do sell Tres Leches cakes by the slice as well… You know, just in case you’re like me and you’re watching your sugar intake. Do your self a favor and order yourself a slice of cake and some coffee here… You deserve to know what the meaning of “yummy” actually means! The quality of the pasteries sold here, and the amazing service, get this little bakery 5 out of 5 stars! It’s a hidden gem that needs more exposure!

Le Petit Chocolat & Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2004 E Carson St, Pittsburgh

Le Petit Chocolat Café Friday, February 9, 2018 10:59 AM I love this bakery. Their cupcakes are absolutely fantastic – perhaps even the best in the city. But product availability can be incredibly frustrating and inconsistent. On three separate occasions, I’ve stopped in at 10:00 or 10:30 am to grab cupcakes on my way to a meeting, and to my surprise, they’ve had zero cupcakes available for purchase. (Unfortunately, it happened again today). I understand that she makes cupcakes fresh each day – that’s one of the things that makes them so good – but if a business opens at 9:00 am, customers expect product to be available at 9:00 am. It would be unfair of me to complain with out attempting to be constructive. With that in mind, I’d like to offer the following ideas/suggestions: * Perhaps she can start the baking process earlier, so that product is available when the business opens. * Maybe she can consider baking tomorrow morning’s inventory the night before. * She could clearly set the expectation that cupcakes will not be available until a specified time, while all other goods are available for purchase starting at 8:30 or 9:00 am. Or, if product won’t be available until 11:00, then perhaps they shouldn’t open until 11:00 am.

La Tasse Rouge – Café Collectif – Menu with Prices – 3756 Rue Masson, Montréal

For my usual afternoon coffee hunt, I decided to go out a little further and try this relatively new café situated in Vieux-Rosemont on Masson Street. This quaint little café, with its white chairs, wooden tables, and hints of red décor, is definitely small but full of charm! The have a few outdoor seats in the back, a couch in the back for those who prefer to lounge, and tables meant for two, which makes for a great workspace for those who prefer to bring their laptops along; free Wi-Fi too! As for their menu, they offer light fair perfect for lunches, as well as baked goods, and of course, coffee. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by Emily and placed my order for a tall latte with almond milk. The coffee was well prepared but the espresso was a little too acidic for my taste, so I simply added some sugar; perfect! For 4.25$, a tall latte with almond milk including taxes, is a total steal! As I prepared to leave, I asked “Why Café Collectif in your name?”. Emily explained that certain proceeds from their sales are reinvested back into the community, and they even offer the “pay it forward” concept. Wow! So, I paid a couple of coffees forward and headed back to work, content I accomplished a good deed for the day, and got a yummy coffee out of my walk too. It was only on my way out that I noticed that all their coffees are served in red cups (even for takeout!); how cute! Overall, the concept alone is reason to visit this delightful little spot, but I will certainly return for some of their baked goods that looked so yummy, they left me drooling over my red coffee cup all the way back to work.

Del Plata Bakery – Menu with Prices – 900 N Federal Hwy Suite#104, Hollywood

5/6 update. So after my previous update today the owner Bitter Brian has messaged multiple times with additional insults and states he’s got a thriving business. Well if that’s the case why aren’t you busy focused on that instead of farting around insulting me. He’s told me not to go back like I would ever even if it were free my family and friends all agreed that this Baker is strictly a hack and not an artisan. He’s still messaging me what a sad sad man that his life is so empty and he’s such a bitter pill with nothing to live for has to Harass former clients! Again don’t be this dude it’s embarrassing to have a little Wienie and be such a loud chihuahua. My apologies for insulting Chihuahuas. Sample of the owners messaging. Btw he’s never seen my family nor knows anything about me. But thought I would demonstrate the pettiness of this unprofessional hack who can’t resist the need to belittle people personally cause he lacks any class what so ever & his daughter is a black hole. “And I’m sure that’s what you and your fat kid are too.. I’ll say your husband also but I don’t think anyone wants to date a bitter old fat small minded lady like you!! Keep typing away with your twitter fingers it doesn’t affect me.. on top of that I’m pretty sure my daughter will straighten you up real quick” So the owner reached out to insult me saying that I don’t know food and they’re Argentinian. Well then they shouldn’t have lied and been listed as Cuban under their Yelp description. That’s two lies. I reduced to 1 star for their attitude towards my review and their inability to tell the truth. I’m sure they think they’re the best so they don’t need to be nice to customers or honest about what your buying from them. I wish them lots of luck as customers are the basis the business not product! Ordered an extensive amount of baked goods to go. There was a square vanilla flavored cake but when I brought it home it was filled with chocolate pudding. Seems the baker doesn’t know their own product. The chocolate mousse my son hated and there’s never been a choc. Mousse he ever hated. The flan syrup was very watery and it’s texture wasn’t creamy like home made, more like a mix. The postres de carne were flaky but hardly had meat and the meat was flavorless. Well if you’ve had great bakery goods that are authentic Cuban then I don’t recommend this place
