By far, one of the best extended stays that I have ever had at a hotel. I’ve never stayed at an Aloft Hotel before and let me just say that I was blown away by the service. I was in Dallas, TX for a couple of weeks for work and Aloft made my stay very comfortable. The front desk receptionists were all very friendly and welcoming. There were times where I was wanting to purchase some travel items and as expected there was a few minutes of wait because people needed to check-in for their reservations, because I had to wait when it came to pay for my items the receptionist comp’d my items. They didn’t have to do that! So nice. The rooms are very modern with a flare that will appeal most to the younger crowd. The beds were comfy with an abundance of pillows to cuddle with. The bathroom was very clean, with a walk-in shower and a floor to seeing window looking into the bedroom.. HOT. SEXY. FUUUUUU.. ? All the bath products were ‘Bliss’ branded and left your body smelling so so good and skin left silky smooth and soft. There is a fridge setup under the bathroom sink, if you plan to use it make sure it is plugged in when you arrive otherwise you will have to wait for it to cool. Ironing boards and an iron are provided along with a dirty laundry bag. Full bar service is available on the main lobby floor. Swimming pool is also there for use but no whirlpool/Jacuzzi sadly. There is no room service available however in the mornings there is a breakfast bar with light snacks available for purchase. After my experience at the Aloft, I’ll definitely consider them as a new option when traveling.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Ritz Menu with Prices 320 E 6th St, Austin

Maybe they’re trying to keep it real and authentic from what this theater was decades and decades ago but that doesn’t mean the women’s bathroom has to be a rathole, disgusting experience. I literally have never seen a theater bathroom like this. Let me describe it to you: there are four stalls, one handicapped, and only two of them have lights– so the other two are like doing your business in a nightclub. The sinks are automatic and one of them was not working. The other one spewed out burning hot water. Exactly what you don’t need in 95° heat. There was a mat in front of the two sinks with water seeping out from under it. I complained to the manager on Friday, June 6 (2019) in person about these issues and returned the next day. I didn’t expect lighting to be installed but I did expect at least the courtesy of a sign that the one sink was not operational. Or, FIXED. Sadly, I saw a woman in a wheelchair trying to get water out of it and was there to let her know that the sink was broken. She then had to move over to the other sink, again on partially wet floor under a mat and navigate that. I told the management again. I suggested that they put an “out of order” sign on the sink, which they had neglected to do as a courtesy to their customers like the handicapped woman who had to deal with this. They obviously don’t seem to care. Because of this, I would NEVER return to this decrepit theater.

Aloft Columbia Downtown – Menu with Prices – 823 Lady St, Columbia

I had occasion to stay at my first Aloft property on a recent trip to Columbia, SC. I was blown away. Check in was quick, efficient, and really friendly. And I was stunned by the stylish, yet somehow casual, lobby. The space gleamed with streamlined, stainless-steel bar stools, and fun accent lighting. Comfortable accents like a pool table and counter-height tables and chairs, gave a nice counterpoint. My room continued the theme, with minimalist, elegant, decor organizing so much functionality into the room, without it seeming crowded. There were MANY USB ports in the night stand and desk, ready to charge with just a cord — no adapter needed. Drawer and closet space were integrated into a spacious bathroom wall, and the coffee station was inset into that same line of site. I have nothing but praise in the normal function and service categories I look for in a hotel, but I have to say, the real win form me here was just being in such a fun environment for my stay. Well done, Aloft. See you again, soon.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista South – Menu with Prices – 4955 Kyngs Heath Rd, Kissimmee

It’s been a while since staying at an Embassy Suites hotel back in the day Embassy was definitely my favorite hotels for stays but I noticed they’d gone down a bit. Based on the reviews I decided to give it a try since it was for just one night for my pre-birthday celebration. Outside grounds: The hotel outside was nice and pleasant. There are 2 separate parking areas. There is a charge for parking so be prepared. Like most hotels there’s a round-about to get out for your check in. This is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Inside: When I walked inside I was like WHOA-this is really nice. There’s a sitting area posted directly in front of the check-in desk. Next to the sitting area is the bar and the bar sitting area. Across from the bar is the restaurant area and directly in the back is the common area, seems like more booth sitting and soda machine. This is also the place where the complimentary drinks will be provided. Check-in: Check-in was quick. The rep that checked me in was a gentleman and he was very nice. The rep next to me was checking in a gentleman and afterwards she provided him with complimentary gift-I did not receive one at check-in. Rooms: Our room was 506. The room was to my surprise very, very nice. We had a suite a nice sitting area with a sofa and chair. Also a computer area, sink, fridge, coffee pot and sink. The bathroom was your average tube, bathroom very clean (although there was a very long blond hair on one of our towels, gross) but otherwise no issues. The room was a king suite, flat screen TV and also a sink in the room. I’d never seen that before. The bed appeared comfy but was a bit hard to me and the pillows way too soft. There was an additional pillow and blanket in the closet area. Complimentary drinks: Complimentary is served from 5-7:30pm if I remember correctly. Complimentary drinks are any well drinks and there was Sangria and Margarita. Let me say if you prefer your special drink i want to say you’ll only pay $5 instead of the regular price. Also provided was pretzels and veggies. We sat in the bar seating area at a small table and just relaxed. After complimentary we ordered food from the restaurant Oasis. The young lady working the bar provided impeccable customer service. The food was ok, nothing to brag about. There’s a variety of items for your choosing on the menu. We tried the philly cheese, the steak had no flavor, also the flat break (can’t recall the name but it had blu cheese on the top) that was pretty tasty and the cheese/spinach dip with chips-it was okay. For desert we had the apple tart with ice cream, now this was YUMMY. Breakfast buffet and omelets are also provided for breakfast but we did not participate in the hotel breakfast. Check-out: This process was easy and quick. Overall we would definitely stay at another Embassy. Our experience was a pleasant one.

Reunion Bread Co / Bakery – Menu with Prices – 3350 Brighton Blvd #140, Denver

Reunion Bread was recently nominated as one of Bon Appetit’s top 50 restaurants in 2019 and they wholeheartedly deserve it! The Source is kind of a confusing place to navigate. Basically, one building existed where Reunion Bread and Acorn and a couple other places were and then a hotel was built right by it and so they connected the building to the hotel and now the entire thing is called The Source. The hotel has a bar on the top floor and some other shops, but where you really want to go is Reunion Bread, which is this super small little bakery shop next to Acorn. Just follow the aroma of delicious bread and baked goods! When my friend and I went, we were unable to get there much before closing, which meant there was little to nothing left other than a few loaves of baked bread. I pretty much expected all of the items to be gone, so I wasn’t upset about it, but so relieved to find out that there were just a few loaves left. Even that last remaining loaves were unbelievable. I really wanted to try their rye bread anyway (because I had heard it was amazing) and the owner, who greeted us, was so kind and generous – offered us a chunk of the rye. The smell of the rye, even before eating it, is so intense. The bread itself is soft, and chewy, yet the outside is crunchy and crackles. It has a touch of sour, with earthy, carway-type, deep flavor. I immediately bought a loaf (or two!). The owner let us know that we should come back for the pastries, which are apparently phenomenal and that we should arrive before 9am or 10am to get any, especially since their recent fame in Bon Appetit. The owner was so kind and generous and chatted with us for a bit about how he makes the bread and the types of flour he uses. Overall, Reunion Bakery has great bread (I also tried and purchase the last white loaf) and I can’t wait to go back for more!

Sheraton Columbia Downtown Hotel – Menu with Prices – 1400 Main St, Columbia

OK, I’m gonna be kind of mean here. But I want to start by saying that the staff were super courteous throughout the stay, so none of this is meant as a swipe at them. This was just…a weird weird stay. Checked in on a Sunday night, everything is normal, OK. Stopped by the lounge on the way to the room to grab a soda…no diet. Annoying, but, whatever, first world problems. This was the case throughout the stay, so it wasn’t just an issue of being out of stock that night. Went to bed, cool. A/C in my room could have been more effective: it ran pretty much all night to bring things down to a set temp of 70F. The bed had an amount of covers/blankets that is in total ignorance of what the weather is like in South Carolina in June, but I have been cold in hotel rooms before (looking at you, most Marriott properties) so cool, I’ll just remove some. Wake up, time to take a shower. Oh my. My shower only gets hot water. I tried every permutation of the flow control and temperature knob…and…just really…really hot water. A few minutes and several layers of skin later, I’m finished, and thinking, well, it’s just the valve in the wall or something. Nope! I go to shave, and it’s just scalding hot water. No way to mix. And I know i’m not insane because the sink has independent knobs for hot and cold, and opening either one any amount just results in scalding hot water. So I shave (for which you need hot water, although maybe not this hot) and then wash my face when I’m done (for which I prefer cold water) and generally try to avoid getting my hands wet because they really hurt at this point. I should also note that the bathroom in this room had NO space to put anything – there’s a reason that the hand towels, toiletries, etc were stacked on top of the toilet tank, because the sink was out a main floor residential powder room. I literally put my shaving kit on a nightstand and ran back and forth to get each item as I needed it. Now time for breakfast. I’m on the club floor, and as I’m swiping my card in to the lounge, I disturb a couple very large cockroaches, one of which skittered up the door sill to my room and posed next to the green choice card for the photo I’m attaching to this review. No kill palmetto bug sanctuary is probably not what they meant when they said green choice. Inside the lounge…very limited options. No yogurt or anything, no cut fruit, just carbs and some apples/oranges. I had a bagel…which I decided not to finish after observing several dead cockroaches on the floor near the table I selected. Thank god for the nearby Starbucks. For actual sleeping, the beds were fine – fitted sheets, which is a bonus compared to most Sheratons I’ve been in recently, and mattresses were fine, pillows were fine. So I at lest slept well once I got the rooms cooled off. That’s most of the mean. I did complain about the hot water – no way could I do that another day, and they moved my room right away, to one that was a) larger, b) had a better A/C unit, and c) had an actual vanity with a countertop, so that was a net upgrade. Of note, another coworker, in a room one floor down, but in a similar location on the floor plan did have the same hot water problem, and they were able to fix his. Not sure what could possibly result in that other than the rooms being plumbed wrong but…whatever. The front desk said that it “happened from time to time.” Certainly a new one to me, that’s for sure. I did not mention the roach infestation, since the new room didn’t have any, never saw any after that. But all of this is enough to keep me in a different Starwood property from here out. Not sure if I’ll be back to Columbia for this project, but I won’t be back to this hotel.

Renaissance Asheville Hotel Menu with Prices 31 Woodfin St, Asheville

I loved the location of this hotel and that they allowed our pet to join us! It was easy to walk into downtown and there was a nice area to walk your pet. The decor was very modern and our room was clean. We had a nice view from our room and enjoyed having nice big windows. Go up to the top floor for an even better view. There is a nice outside patio seating that the hotel offers as well! The bed wasn’t comfortable for my husband and I. It was very soft and the mattress slept hot. It was also hard to regulate the temperature in our room. The bathroom was decent and had a good shower. The shower curtain was dirty and the toilet sprays water out when flushed. Also the toilet itself was old. We didn’t have very good hot water one day. The bathroom also had a sliding door that doesn’t offer a lot of privacy. There is ample parking here but some spaces require a hike. I didn’t mind that so much because it was nice to have free parking! I had pleasant experiences with the staff I interacted with.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Little Rock – Menu with Prices – 424 W Markham St, Little Rock

So far, I am extremely disappointed with this hotel. I normally love all of the Hilton honors hotels but after an extremely long wait to check-in due to another guest having issues, (not the hotels fault) I get to my room and all I want to do shower and get to bed. Unfortunately, the toilet in my bathroom is broken, and there is no hot water in my shower or sink. Okay I get it, stuff happens. I call the front desk to get a new room, they don’t have any comparable rooms available, or upgrades, so I get a downgraded room and the hotel staff aren’t yet able to add extra points to my account or otherwise compensate me for a completely disrupted night. Hopefully tomorrow this will be rectified, if it is, I will certainly change this review to reflect that but as it stands I’m very dissatisfied. EDIT: Day two of my business travels and this hotel has handled the issues that were present wonderfully. The staff here tended to my needs, kept me Informed about the process and decisions, and more than compensated for my troubles. I’m quite pleased with how the staff handled the adversity and will more than likely stay here the next time I’m in town.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel West Palm Beach Airport – Menu with Prices – 1808 S Australian Ave, West Palm Beach

I’m a frequent business traveler around the state and I’ve always driven past this DoubeTree property but have never stayed. That’s because my employer generally wants us to stay at hotels the are “budget friendly” since we are in one every night. However, this time while searching on my Hilton app for vacancies in the WPB area, I saw the DoubleTree including taxes and fees was only $140! Typically, they are much higher because they are full-service. The nice thing about this property is that there is a restaurant inside (see my rating on that), which is great because this area has absolutely no restaurants. For the hotel, parking was easy (you don’t need to valet unless you want to), the lobby has high ceilings and is very clean. I checked-in on my Hilton app so that was a breeze. The elevators were clean and efficient. Waking to my room the halls were also nice (this is key because it shows good upkeep). My room was clean and accommodating. Linens were fresh. The desk was large enough to do plenty of work. Now to the important part, the bathroom. It was very clean, however, a bit small. However the sink, tub, and floor was clean. No problems with the towels either. The beds were very soft, and I must say, of all the hotels I’ve stayed on the road, I got one of my best sleeps in awhile here! Thanks!

In-N-Out Burger – Menu with Prices – 450 Auto Center Dr, Corona

5 stars for food and service but 2 stars for safety for slippery floors!! Food and service was excellent!! This is mainly a teaching and safety comment. My husband went in to use the restroom with my handicapped son. My husband slipped on the bathroom floor and banged his knee up pretty good. He’s a tough guy, a fireman, and won’t say it hurts, but he’s got a noticeable limp afterwards. He tells the guy at the counter what happened and leaves. Worker was concerned. So I go in about 5 minutes later and almost slip in the women’s bathroom. I did not notice any signs saying “wet floor” or anything similar. Now I can tell it’s the way they mopped the floor. It was almost waxy like but really slick with no signs of wetness on the floor. Just dry and slick which tells me it’s wax on the floor. I also saw some newbies being shown the ropes. So…possibly need better training on cleaning products or products are leaving a film and need a different brand.

Vape Works of Birmingham Menu with Prices 5510 Crestwood Blvd, Birmingham

Is vape your thing? If it is and you live close to Avondale, this may be the place for you. Not being a connoisseur of the vape, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I was immediately drawn in by the sampling bar where you can try as many as 50 different flavors that Boxcar sells — which is really good for people who have never tried vape since they may have no idea what they are looking for. I ended up buying a standard vape setup and have been satisfied. If you do find yourself considering a purchase, check groupon/yelp for a deal. I bought a pretty standard setup and paid $35 but ten minutes after we left one of my friends found an active groupon for what I paid that included a couple of additional items and a case. I felt and feel a little burned that the guy at the store didn’t at least mention the groupon or say he’d match the groupon deal. I don’t think this will keep me from going back to this store and it shouldn’t keep you from going either — it’s a cool low-key spot and it connects directly to Wasabi Juan’s so you can have a whole dinner/vape experience if that is your thing.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Raleigh-Durham Airport at Research Triangle Park – Menu with Prices – 4810 Page Creek Ln, Durham

This hotel is just a No for me, they get two stars for effort in trying to make things right but I just can’t. From the lobby you would think the hotel is updated but that is a negative grasshopper, the rooms are old and dingy and need to be updated PERIOD. I’ve actually stayed at this property in the past and although it wasn’t my favorite I don’t remember it being this bad. I checked into the hotel and initially was given a room on the side of the hotel nearest to the front desk on the Hilton honors floor. From jump I knew I was in for a surprise but let’s see where this goes. I get to the 4th floor only to be greeted by piles of sheets, trash and dirty towels on the floor in front of each of 4 rooms. One of those rooms couldn’t possibly be mine and it’s 7pm so why does the hall look this way. Well one of the rooms was mine, how am I supposed to get in is my next thought we’ll let’s go to the elevator phone and call the front desk to find out…ma’am can you just go in the room the dirty items mean they just cleaned, sir are you asking me to touch someone else’s dirty stuff to get in this room because that will never happen, oh no I’ll send someone right away (which they did) but the room was just too dingy for me so I requested to be moved, which they obliged and did. Fast forward to room 2, well I’m OCD and travel with my own cleaner and this room although better then the last needed a wipe down. I get to the bathroom to be greeted by pee on the toilet SERIOUSLY yeah I draw the line there but don’t want to be moved and I can’t forget the broken phone â? so I can’t call and am required to walk to the front desk – all I want to do is put my stuff down and go to dinner so I can prepare for tomorrow but that’s not happening. They send a house cleaner and maintenance worker to correct all the wrong but I’m already in checkout mode All in all this hotel won’t be graced by my presence in the future. Although the front desk worker was extremely nice, drink cards can’t fix this. You guys seriously need to put this hotel under renovation, mold in the shower, vents covered in dust, dirty carpet are only a few of my gripes. I travel to the area for business but this is on my list of no bueno hotels

Curtiss Hotel – Menu with Prices – 210 Franklin St, Buffalo

Very pretty hotel but…checked in very late on Friday night and the hotel was party city with large groups of people all over. Got to my room on the second floor, crawled into bed exhausted only to find loud party goers in the hall till nearly 5 am. I could also hear every conversation through the walls from my neighbors, loud music from other rooms and babies crying. Am I in Motel 6?? On my last night someone ran up and down the halls at midnight screaming and crying. What the heck. I just want to ad that although my room was “pretty” there was not a comfortable chair in the room. There was a hard chair at the desk in front of the tv, a hard stool in front of the vanity in the bathroom and other than the bed there was not a soft comfortable chair in the room. So if you wish to read it’s the bed or nothing. It would be better to have a comfortable reading chair and ottoman in a corner of the room in which to read or relax. So for me, as I said, it’s a pretty hotel but it needs a lot of upgrades for the ratings it has. Because of the expense to stay here my traveling companions chose to stay in another hotel a block away. Honestly, their room was very user friendly and comfortable. But you make your own choice and gather your own opinions. I just know I will never stay here again.
