Well, lesson learned…this is not the place to take your small children for an after-school cupcake treat. The cupcakes were absolutely monstrous when you account for the frosting on top…so huge, we had no idea how to eat them. The cupcakes were sitting in a fridge and the frosting was very hard, so my son ended up licking his like an ice cream cone, while my daughter ate from the bottom up and made a disastrous mess of their outdoor patio. Eating logistics aside, they were impressively presented and tasted decent…But would probably taste much better at room temperature, when eaten with a fork on a plate. We also ordered the almond croissant and although I had high hopes, it was one of the worst I’ve had. The almond croissant at La Boulangerie is worlds beyond this one. I wish they had prices listed for the desserts. I had no idea how much I was paying for any of it…I asked the worker and she said she thought the cupcakes were $4, which I guess makes sense considering how much frosting they have. But I would much rather have a cheaper, smaller cupcake with less frosting. We paid $17 for 3 cupcakes and 1 almond croissant! The bill took me by surprise. I really wanted to love this place, so I’m willing to go back and see if they have smaller cupcakes or try the cake pops next time:

Cupcake Cutie Etc. – Menu with Prices – Court Square, 109 S Ct Ave, Memphis

We end up coming here pretty often. The owners are great and very friendly and I appreciate that they let me use their bathroom. This place specializes in build-your-own cupcakes. You can mix and match any base flavor with any cream and top it with a number of fun toppings. My favorite base is the strawberry one and the pineapple one because they have little bits of their respective fruit mixed into the batter and it’s always a delight when I get a bite of one. I’ve tried a bunch of random combinations but my favorite thing to do is to ask them what they think goes well with what I’ve chosen. Sometimes it works out and sometimes I have to adjust it later but I usually leave with an awesome cupcake that is at least enjoyable, even if not my all-time favorite. They are also very accommodating here. They will add sparkles, color, and chocolate or caramel syrup for free. The sparkles are really popular with the people I have brought with me to visit. The large comes with one free topping, otherwise all toppings are .50 each. They have a rack to the side of discount cupcakes you can buy. They’re on sale because they were made the previous day. I usually check what they have there first. Oh, don’t forget to come in on your birthday for a free cupcake! Slice Cake Shop – Menu with Prices – 4814 Paredes Line Rd, Brownsville

Cute little bake shop that’s been around Brownsville for a few years but recently moved to this location in September. They specialize in cupcakes, but they also do custom cakes with the various cupcake flavors that they have available (customer’s choice). One cupcake is $2.50, but you can get six for $12. The shop is still in its early phase; they are very pink but have a cute little bench/decorated wall made for people who want pictures with their cupcakes. The owner said she will be adding more seating/tables and coffee soon. I really enjoyed speaking with the owner; she is very nice and helpful and does great customer service. As for cupcakes, I got their best-selling one: Strawberry Cheesecake cupcake: Delicious! The cupcake is moist without being crumbly everywhere, and the frosting is a cream cheese frosting that gives it that cheesecake taste. It’s a little on the sweet side, but if you eat it with some milk, then its fantastic.

Couture Cakes By Nika – Menu with Prices – 10373 Warwick Blvd, Newport News

This is the best bakery to grace the Earth! (I still don’t understand why people would go anywhere else in Newport News) Maple Bacon Cupcakes Ok my review is done. LOL! Ive grown up around amazing bakeries, I even grew up with Amish and Mennonite bake businesses. Living in Va Beach, I am near some fine bakeries but still only go to one…..25 minutes away and across a bridge tunnel and that is this fine shop by Nika. Many places will make cupcakes or cakes and call it something due to the frosting having that flavor. But Nika goes above and beyond making both the frosting and cake go with the intended flavor. Where a run of the mill business will have a Key Lime cupcake with only the frosting adhering to the flavor and the cake being a generic white cake; Nika will have a key lime frosting and cake with lime or graham crumble. Want something unique? Try her Lavender cupcake. Want to die by chocolate, get the Chocolate Overload with some actual chocolate bar on top. Have a cheat day with the amazing Peanut Butter fudge. Or want the recipe Oreo is seeking, have her cookies and cream cake……Hell, have them all there isn’t one you’d go wrong with. The cupcakes are the tip of the iceberg. She is an artist, bakes cakes, cookies and anything else…… Finally, we had her do our wedding. My god the almond cake melted in your mouth. The crowd went gaga over her cake and were more than happy to take some cupcakes home. And after a year of being frozen until our anniversary it was still an amazing bite. If you want to be the toast of your party….just get 2 dozen different cupcakes and you’ll be welcomed back! MAPLE BACON CUPCAKE!!!!!!!!

Hello Cupcake – Menu with Prices – 521 Northwood Rd, West Palm Beach

If you are in the Northwood area stop by and see Star at Hello Cupcake. This cute little dessert shop is always ready to exceed your expectations. Flavors like Sweet Potato , German Chocolate my all time favorite is the Red Velvet. So we ordered two Red Velvet for me and Sweet Potato for Lambo. I asked Star to put some German Chocolate frosting on half of mine. I always wanted to change the combinations of frosting and and cupcakes this creates another cupcake. Star thought this was not a good mix.. Let me say I’m heading back today to flip flop again. Oh wow! That could be one of your desserts. They look to good to eat… But you have to. See you soon Star

Incr-Edible Cupcakes – Menu with Prices – 42072 5th St # 105, Temecula

I LOVE this place so much. I first tried incredible cupcakes on a whim and I fell in love. Since then I’ve had them cater my child’s first birthday (sugar free smash cake! That my toddler devoured), they’ve been our go to for birthdays and anniversaries, they’ve catered my friends wedding and every person I introduce them to becomes addicted. The store is small and they have fresh cupcakes that differ day to day. All are so good. Death by chocolate: . Bears. Chocolate cupcake ever! The frosting and the filling. The entire cake is amazing. Apple Crumb: like a cinnamon cake with a apple pie filling. Horchata: yup. You read that. Amazing. Cinnamon donut: cones with a mini donut on top Almond: so light and beautiful flavor Carrot cake: perfect wry no raisins! Cream cheese frosting is amazing These are my favorite that stick out, we’ve tried many more. Seriously go get a cupcake from them NOW!

Ganache Patisserie – Menu with Prices – 13230 Pawnee Dr suite #114, Oklahoma City

One year ago, I was raving about Ganache Patisserie, like a freakin’ lunatic. It was a super long dissertation-esque review going on about why OKC needed more businesses like Ganache. Now, I’m going to walk back some of those over the top statements, but in a more even-tempered, and (hopefully) significantly shorter review… [] Why the Downgrade? [] 1. The double-baked croissants we’ve had have been unpleasant, especially the raspberry cream cheese croissant (which was lacking in all of the named elements). Also, the almond croissant I’ve had was less double-baked and more over-baked, resulting in the ends being crispy (read: burnt). I normally love almond croissants, and Ganache’s almond croissant managed to reduce some of that love. With Ganache’s croissants, it’s like we’ve gotten all the flakiness of a croissant, but none of the pillowiness (it’s not a word, I’m aware). And I get that “double-baked” may be a thing that some people enjoy, but I generally like my croissants to not disintegrate under the slightest pressure. Much like my childhood hopes and dreams. 2. There’s been a problem with consistency occasionally. I’ve gotten some tarts where the crust is super thick or (as previously mentioned) over-baked. Additionally, some of the individual dessert portions vary in size. Some are slightly bigger. Some are slightly smaller. Also, the mousses appear to have been re-designed from earlier versions, and at least to my eyes, the redesigns appear to be smaller. 3. They’ve increased their prices as well. Sure, those increases are small (~5%) and the owners are certainly welcome to do whatever they want, but considering that some of the items were already starting at $7 apiece (this time last year), when you start ratcheting up from the already high(er) prices, it’s noticeable even if it’s small (for me anyway, but I’m an Indian). I’m sure other people’s threshold for discomfort when buying desserts is probably greater. Especially if they’re the type to hang out in Chisholm Creek all the time. Having said that, OKC still needs Ganache in that Oklahomans should know that there are (much better) things than pies, sno-cones, and ice cream as far as desserts are concerned. I had a quiche recently at Ganache that was quite good. There’s also a seasonal pumpkin tart that’s fantastic, and that prosciutto sandwich is still one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. There are still things to love. It’s just not the telenovela, head-over-heels, rose-colored-glasses kind of love anymore. Okay, so this still ended up being a dissertation-length review…

Couture Cakes of Greenville – Menu with Prices – 1325 Miller Rd Suite H, Greenville

We had a Groupon for them, and we just got around to getting the cupcakes. This review will cover the location and the cupcakes. We picked out a whole bunch of a different flavors for a family engagement (they had a large case with like fifteen different flavors of cupcakes). I had the mint chocolate cupcake, and it was pretty good. The chocolate cake was soft, and the frosting was creamy and yummy. So, they aren’t the best cupcakes that I’ve ever had, but they’re still really high quality. Considering the $2.50 price tag per cupcake, I’d say this is a premium price for them, and in my mind, they fall short of the illustrious five star rating. However, with the Groupon deal, we made out pretty well. They look like they do cake consultations too, and the shop looked like something you’d see on the Food Network. They had many designs displayed, and I’m sure they do a lot of specialty designs for weddings and parties. When we were in the shop, a couple was there doing a tasting, and when my sister called, they were doing a different tasting/consultation. The take away message, however, is that they make a good cupcake, and they make a large variety of flavors. Just be prepared to write a somewhat fat check.

Nana’s Tiny Cakes LLC – Menu with Prices – 9014 NE St Johns Rd #102, Vancouver

Nana’s is my go-to place for cupcakes in Vancouver. I’ve ordered over 15 dozen mini-cupcakes in the three years since finding Nana’s. I’ve had them cupcake cater my dad’s funeral since he LOVED their gluten-free cupcakes, I’ve taken them to parties, given a bunch as gifts. Everyone I’ve ever had try them, gets addicted. I’ve actually got 3 women mad at me, because they live in the area and now get cupcake cravings- so they all tell me they stop to pick one up every once in a while to get their cravings fulfilled. My personal favorite is their Key Lime, followed by the Root Beer Float, Chocolate… and normally I HATE carrot cake, but I accidentally ate one at my dad’s funeral, and loved it… so the carrot cake ones are my 4th favorite, lastly my 5th favorite is Lemon. They are dense cupcakes like some people have complained about ( Like seriously? Who complains about a dense cupcake? what do you want a twinkie cupcake sponge?)… and they are cupcakes- frosting is sugary, but its not over the top too sweet. I reading through these reviews and someone was complaining about their cupcakes because of this… did you not buy one to try it first? I always buy one to try if its a flavor I haven’t tried before. Nana’s is way way way superior to store bought cupcakes. And they offer a limited selection of cookies now and if you don’t want to get addicted, stay away from the Peanut Butter Bomb’s. OMGosh- so, so so good. The staff is always great and I enjoy stopping by now just to say hello, even if I don’t have a reason for getting cupcakes. If I could give Nana’s a rating on 1 to 5, I’d give them a 10

Smallcakes: Cupcakery & Creamery – Menu with Prices – 2132 Skibo Rd #114, Fayetteville

A very clean shop with pleasant staff;the atmosphere is very welcoming, and the soft music in the backgound is a nice touch. The cupcakes are delicious! The price is around what you would expect to pay for a cupcake, but I appreciate how they don’t skimp on the cake or frosting. Some cupcakery’s have decreased the size of the cup cake, but not the price. At Small Cakes, you get a nice size, pretty looking cupcake in a cute little box designed to hold cupcakes. It’s the attention to detail and presentation that makes this place a favorite of mine too. ON my last visit I had the ket lime cupcake…yes! I have also had the carrot cake cupcake and it is yum too; an added bonus,is it has no raisins in it. Anyhow, the Red Velvet, Wedding, and plain Chocolate are great too!

Kansas City Cupcake Co. Cafe – Menu with Prices – 719 N 6th St, Kansas City

What a breath of fresh air!!! In the less attractive downtown of Kansas City, KS, this place is a true breath of fresh air! I almost felt I was in the Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City, MO! This place is so clean and feels like a little home. I feel like I will be coming here a lot to do homework or work on personal projects and enjoy a wonderful treat or a meal. Today was my first day here and my brother tagged along. He got a weekly special cupcake called turtle something and I got their special Oh My Gosh Ganache. Let me tell you that after trying these cupcakes I am on a mission to try every single cupcake on the menu. The cake was so soft and moist, and the frosting melted in my mouth perfectly. (I have had a big issue with cupcakes in the past from other vendors and the frosting is usually a big lump of hardened mess!) I was so pleased to enjoy the amazing frosting from these cupcakes. I also have to add that they not only have cupcakes but they also have a variety of sandwiches and beverages like coffee, teas, and soda. I ordered a grilled sandwich and added BACON for an extra $1. How amazing is that! It comes with the option of either a bag of chips or a fruit. I decided to be a little unhealthy and went with the chips. I already had bacon so why not right??? I will definitely be coming back for more! P.S. They a rewards card! After 12 cupcakes you get one free. Also they have the loyalty stars program. After ten stars you get a $2.49 off your next purchase!

Sweetness Desserts – Menu with Prices – 2034 N Valley Mills Dr, Waco

What a lovely shop! The ladies are very nice, too. We live several hours away, but when in town, we eat at a restaurant nearby. The sign and front windows drew me in, but the cupcakes will have us return every time we visit Waco! The shop is absolutely charming, the dessert displays are enticing, and the free samples are a wonderful way to “preview” the cupcake flavors. One sample of strawberry cupcake and I was hooked!!!! All the desserts are beautiful, but the strawberry cupcake is made in beautiful colors, and the icing, made with real berries, is incredible. It even has some sparkle!!! The cookies looked delicious, and all the desserts were artfully made. A sample of the fudge cupcake was very good, but their strawberry (one) is the best cupcake I have ever eaten!!!!

Antler Baking Co. Menu with Prices 10 Prospect St, Bellingham

Well, my girlfriends and I always love a good dessert, and when we saw the display earlier in the day the Woods Coffee employee gave us the scoop and said you have to try her desserts. We have our usual favorites in town for certain things, but I do think Bellingham can always use a great little dessert spot that offers up a variety of items beyond just cupcakes/cake. Amidst the decor of warm woods and white cake stands is a variety of impressive desserts. Our selection for the day included peanut butter pie, a chocolate torte with a berry sauce, carrot cake, a gluten free polenta cake, porter chocolate coconut caramel, white cupcakes with raspberry and a tequila frosting I think, and mascarpone chocolate chip cookie sandwiches, among other things. What I love are the unique flavor combinations: cardamom, porter, sea salt, candied orange, mascarpone….these desserts are definitely elevated beyond your typical fare. I opted for the cupcake and chocolate cake. The cupcake was dense and moist, just the way I like cake. The tart raspberry balanced lovely with the sweet frosting. The chocolate cake was phenomenal. A lighter cake in crumb texture but rich in chocolate flavor and superbly moist. The coconut flavor in the frosting resonated but didn’t overpower and the toasted coconut on the exterior added a great textural element. The porter was pronounced, with that coffee richness I associate with those beers. The caramel was rich and delicious. Overall everyone in my group raved about their desserts, and we are so happy to have a unique delicious option in downtown and close to work. Check it out!
