Wow! $6 is more than I like to pay for rice cakes (Dduk / Tteok), but for these it was well worth it. I got an assortment of 3 kinds (see photo), with much more total weight that I’m used to getting for $5 elsewhere. More importantly, all 3 types were fresh and really tasty. My favorite were the flavor bombs (that’s my name; I don’t know what they’re actually called). You pop one into your mouth and bite, and liquid goodness floods your taste buds – yum! I also bought two HUGE mochi ($3 for the pair), which were literally the best I’ve ever had. One had red bean filling, the other mung bean. Both were great, because as others have said, the filling to dough ratio is wonderful. Service was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended if you like Dduk and/or Mochi.

Sweet Temptations (Cakes, Cookies & More) – Menu with Prices – 1194 Jade E Ln, Kissimmee

I’m so happy I found this place! They have “Conchas”, “Bolillos” and other delicious baguettes and pastries. They do such a great job on the dough–soft and fresh! A huge plus on their everyday tamales! I usually wake up late-morning and when I crave for Pan Dulce, I also like a tamale to go with it. It’s such a drag to go for Mexican bread and then travel somewhere else to get tamales and hope that they still have some left since early birds get the worms. Well thank goodness for Sweet Temptations, I can get my bread fix AND tamales fix here anytime before 6p.m. ? I love the fact that their tamales are filled with the correct ratio of Masa and filling. I have been let down many times by some “Tamaleros” with very little filling and very doughy tamales…I had lost hope. So thank you Sweet Temptations! You make my bread and tamale trips much easier and tastier! Brought my hopes up again!

El Rinconcito Pupuseria – Menu with Prices – 1619 N Wells St, Fort Wayne

Okay so i don’t just throw around 4 star reviews. Therefore, you know when a restaurant gets one-they absolutely earned it. And new eaterie, El Rinconcito, earned these stars. Authentic. Flavor-filled. Fresh. Grandma is in the kitchen. Down home, Salvadoran/Mexican deliciousness. Papusas and tacos are priced right at $1.50. The asada taco was filled with small pieces of steak, topped with cilantro and white onions and served with lime. Ok but i wouldn’t return for the tacos. I WILL absolutely return for the papusas. Hot off the griddle, the tender masa dough us slightly crisp on the outside and stuffed with your filling. In my case, beans, pork and lots of cheese. Its magical! It has a certain umaminess. And when you pair it with the tanginess of the curtido (the vinegary cabbage slaw) and the heat of the chunky tomato salsa…mmmmm…A-MAY-ZING! And i saw fried fish that looked great. A seafood soup that was filled with all kinds of oceanic goodness. Menudo. You name it, it came out the kitchen looking awesome. You won’t visit El Rinconcito for the atmosphere. But you will visit it for friendly, attentive and informative service. You will definitely return for the papusas. And you will tell others because there aren’t many places in Fort Wayne that transport your mind and your taste buds to other countries. Yet, I promise you that El Rinconcito will!

Torrance Certified Farmers’ Market – Menu with Prices – 2200 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance

This farmers market is huge~~~ Many vendors for organic/fresh fruits, veggies, cheese, and many more. They also have couple of food stands, so you can come here to grab a meal as well. Def recommend here coming early, especially on Saturday, parking can be tricky to find unless someone pulls out while you are in the parking lot. There is also a church parking lot if the farmers market parking lot is full. Although product is quite expensive here, sampling is free~ My mom and I were stuffed at the end. It took us around 2 hours to get through the market. They have good selection of cheese, fruits, and nut butter/jams. I bought caramel pecan granola, blood orange jam, and some dried fruits, total cost of $22, quite pricy but they were all super tasty, you can tell the quality of the ingredients. I also tried the caramel cream malsada donuts from a food stand, it’s $1.25 and perfect for a small snack. The filling to dough ratio was perfect. Sweetness level was perfect as well. Would def visit here every weekend if I lived in the area.

Paul’s Caribbean Bakery Inc. – Menu with Prices – 4374 White Plains Rd, The Bronx

A favorite neighborhood patty spot! My mom would bring me here when I was a little girl after school for a fresh, hot beef patty. About 20 years later it’s still my favorite place on white plains road for a beef patty. I’m always greeted with a big smile and treated very nicely! Their coco bread is the perfect, fluffy, buttery accompaniment to the flakey patty.. I usually skip the coco bread because the beef patty on its own is very filling *to me*. The patty has the perfect ratio of crust to meat filling..unlike some places with lots of dough, minimum filling. I have tried other patty places, but I always end back up at Paul’s!

Snowy Village Dessert Cafe – North Austin Menu with Prices 1700 W Parmer Ln ste. 244, Austin

Both the “bingsu” shaved ice desserts and the Taiyaki cakes were delicious! Tried the mango cheesecake, matcha tea and strawberry shaved ice desserts, and loved the mango and matcha tea while the strawberry bingsu was just A-OK. Mochi rice cake + sweetened red bean + matcha tea powder = the best Asian dessert combo and irresistible! The shaved ice itself was soft, flaky and airy, creamy and not overly sweet. Taiyaki cakes were pretty good as well. While the Taiyaki’s were being made in the open kitchen, strong buttery smell filled the dining area; smelled so good and loved that smell! The fish-shaped cakes were as tasty as croissants but less flaky and less greasy, and the fillings (we got Nutella & bananas, plain red bean, and red bean & mochi rice cake) were all nice and sweet. Definitely would patronize the Houston locations for more yummy desserts!

Dough In The Box – Menu with Prices – 3184 Austell Rd SW, Marietta

This is my favorite go to doughnut shop EVER! I don’t care where I am or where I’m going…Dough In The Box is the place I’m going to be! There is a local office that I visit monthly and I ALWAYS stop by Dough In The Box to buy then thank you treats!! And let’s not forget those men AND women in uniforms! There have been many CCPD, CCFD and Puckett Ambulance Service stops that I’ve made to just drop off these delicious nuggets of goodie goodness! Always fresh, always priced right and always friendly. And of course their coffee is solid as well! You cannot go wrong with Dough In The Box!!

I heart Kolache – Menu with Prices – 6851 Warren Pkwy #105, Frisco

So I’ve been to the other location in Carrollton and tried their stuff. Their kolaches had too much bread and less filling. Which I believe is common among kolache places.. Hence, I did try another kolache place in Plano and they were the same.. Location is on Warren and facing North. It’s next to Gazebo burgers and Subway. iheart Kolache is a franchise and knowing that I tried this place with an open mind. Hoping they are not the same owners as the one in Carrollton. Good yelper right? Once I walked into this place I noticed the euro style interior designs but in low key. They had a wide selection of stuffed kolaches and fruit kolaches. I had a hard time deciding on what to get because they all looked so good. The kind lady at the front recommended the Philly cheese steak kolache. Like I said a lot of the kolaches I’ve had was 80 percent bread. The first bite I took was bread and filling not just bread. That instantly made my taste buds happy and my memories of bad kolaches go away. The meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Not too salty or cheesy and not under cooked. We also got fruit kolaches to try (as pictured) and I had the raspberry one. I am a fruit person so I enjoyed the fruit kolache more than the other one. As you can see the ratio between filling and bread is 60 percent bread and 40 percent filling. If it was 50/50 then it would be too sweet. That’s my opinion so I could be wrong don’t take my word. If you’re thinking about the “kolaches” at the donut stores it’s totally different. These are pretty close to danishes but not so flaky. They serve coffee and have a small variety of cold drinks. I personally am not a coffee drinker so I skipped the coffee. iheart Kolache seems pretty new so I’d give them more time to figure out the drink selections. Anyways my experience here changed my thoughts of kolaches. Since it’s way out in far out Frisco a place where I hardly even drive to. I notched it down to a four.. location is important when I am looking for a breakfast place. I’m surprised the reviews below aren’t filtered by the yelp police…

The Workshop Vegetarian Cafe East Van – Menu with Prices – 3596 E Hastings St, Vancouver

The food here is delicious. It’s a very nice and unique concept food as they derive their influence from Japanese cuisine. The interior gave off a nice cozy and warm yet sophisticated atmosphere. Staff is friendly too. My favorite dish is their Tan Tan Ramen. I’m a ramen enthusiast and I haven’t had a vegetarian ramen that I enjoyed until trying The Workshop’s Tan Tan Ramen. The dish brings out a deep and complex umami flavor experience that leave your taste buds pleasantly surprised. Other favourites of mine would be the Matcha Mochi cake, which is soft, moist, and hits you with the right amount of sweetness. This cafe will be on the top of my list whenever I’m in the neighborhood. I definitely recommend this place. They’re even on Skip The Dishes, so that’s a huge plus if you don’t feel like walking in the rain.

Delightful Food Company – Menu with Prices – 201 Winchester Dr, Tyler

I am a good baker myself, so I am always trying different bakeries with a very critical attitude. I was lucky enough to eat one of Delightful Baking Co.’s pumpkin cinnamon rolls last week, from the farmers’ market in Tyler. I am kicking myself that I only bought one. The dough itself is tender and yeasty and pumpkiny. And it is so difficult to make a tender cinnamon roll dough! Usually the outside of the roll is too hard, and the dough is tough or dry. These were perfect in every way — they could not be improved upon. Just as good was the carrot/pineapple quick bread. Don’t know how they made it so moist, tender, and not too oily or just plain uncooked in the middle. Just wonderful. Also extremely difficult to pull off. I want to go be their intern and learn their secrets. (My friend and I enjoyed their peanut butter chocolate chip cookies as well.)

Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe Menu with Prices 672 North Glebe Road Retail 1, Arlington

Disclaimer- I’m just a tad finicky about my donuts…. I firmly believe that there is a delicate glaze to dough ratio. Messing up this ratio can ruin the otherwise delightful breakfast combo of a coffee and donut. I had heard such remarkable things about this new donut place that popped up in Arlington. Since I happened to be in the area this morning, I popped in around 7:15 and was greeted by incredible looking donuts, friendly staff, and at the perfect time before the classic breakfast rush. I quickly decided to go for my favorite coffee addiction- a hot foamy cappuccino. I asked for soy milk but they only have almond and oat. (No biggie- the oat was pretty good!) After that I turned my attention to the big event. Donuts galore!!!!!! Something important to mention is that they also have other baked goods besides donuts, they have scones and cookies! I decided to overlook those and go straight for the namesake. I ended up ordering half a dozen- obviously I’m incapable of ordering just one or making a decision – so instead I had a little slice of each donut that really tempted me for a Taste Test Tuesday (I’m definitely making THAT A THING?!?!) My favorites of the taste test(in order of rank): *drumrollllllllllll* -Powdered Sugar Raspberry. Raspberry was tart and not the typical generic raspberry filling that I despise. The powder was fine and balanced out. They also offer it without powder. -Classic Glaze (called Honey Dip). This donut is a little more Dough-y than I typically like….but the glaze was spot on not too sweet not too little. Overall, I could not say I had a complaint. -Lemon Cake was really fantastic! Just the right amount of tartness and cake consistency. -Apple Cinnamon was really yummy as well! The cinnamon sugar on top is real mini granules not the fake powder DD stuff. -Chocolate Cake Doughnut- recommended by the cashier as her favorite- and honestly would not recommend it. Nothing unique about it and it was dry-er than others and very dense and thick. -Chocolate Frosted Sprinkle- I didn’t try that one. My friend seemed to really enjoy it and had only positives to say as well. A tad pricey!!!!!! Have to say about $20 for 6 donuts and a coffee, it’s off of this I wouldn’t make it my regular place… Not that I have a regular donut place to begin with… But I would definitely go again to splurge. If you haven’t tried yet make sure you get there ASAP if you’re a doughnut lover, or just have a sweet tooth in the morning as I tend to. Definitely up there in my opinion of good donuts in the area!!!!

Good Golly Tamale – Menu with Prices – 112 S Central St, Knoxville

My girlfriend and I are vegans and had an absolutely wonderful lunch at their temporary location, while their permanent location across the street is being renovated. I ordered the vegan soul tamale along with black bean soup. She had the same along with a kimchi like, spicy side. The tamales were absolutely wonderful. They are familiar yet creative and cooked just right, preserving the fresh flavors of the diced sweet potato and other ingredients, with perfect seasoning. I also had black bean soup which I enjoyed but did not need as the tamale was filling. Understand this is a laid back place where you order at the counter and they bring it to your table in a delightful shady courtyard, so maybe not the best date night destination, but a place we look forward to frequenting in the future.

Shuei-Do Manju Shop – Menu with Prices – 217 Jackson St, San Jose

At Shuei-Do, tradition is exhibited through the beautifully organized selection of homemade mochi. At 9:30am, Japantown was practically empty with plenty of vacant spaces around. Walking in, you’ll immediately hear the hustle and bustle in the heart of the store – the kitchen. It took a minute or two before someone noticed me through the blue drapes, but that is the sort of moment I enjoy every time I walk into a place like this – a time to check out the full selection at my own pace. From old school azuki mochi to the more modern butter mochi, you’ll find just about anything at the glass counters. Though the mochi were a bit sweeter than I’m accustomed to, but were made fresh with that soft chewy texture (not to mention fully loaded on fillings). PS: You can now pay with credit card!
