I’ve been buying the sesame wheat lavash from Hye Quality Bakery for years. I used to purchase from Valley Lahvash, but they downsized the number of crackers you get in each package, while increasing the price. With Hye Quality Bakery being just down the street, I gave them a try. In comparing the two bakeries I found the Hye Quality to have a lighter texture. The Valley Lavash cracker was too hard and clunky. Maybe this is why my grandmother always splashed the Valley Lavash with water before eating? I know that Valley Lavash gets all the fame and glamor. They have been in business longer than Hye Quality. They have a fancy website with recommendations from major newspapers. They have Facebook and a colorful website. Don’t let all that fool you! When you go to the store you are greeted by one employee, who just basically, is a cashier. Most likely they never grew up eating Armenian food, and can not exchange in a food conversation. At Hye Quality Bakery, on the other hand, you are greeted by someone versed in Armenian cuisine. You generally see three generations of family on any given visit. They are personable and friendly, passing down good work ethics to their great and grand children. Hye Quality ships their product world wide, but they bring down home charm to the local customer. Their premises are always spic and span. I love supporting a wholesome company with a great product, at a great price with great family values!

Panos Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1649 E Washington Blvd, Pasadena

I have been coming to Panos for nearly 10+ years. By far my favorite Armenian bakery for Lahmajune (good quality meat, perfect ratio of meat to bread, everything is chopped uniformly, crispy on the edges yet still tender and firm in the center). Their Manaheesh is also the best in town if you like a thinner dough like I do….it’s best when you heat it a pan and crisp it up…heavenly. The Spinach Boureg is the BOMB…for those yelpers who gave one star because the Spinach Boureg was sour…..you guys are idiots…it’s supposed to be sour. Traditionally it’s seasoned with lemon, sumac and citric acid (I don’t think they use Sumac in thier recipe but my point is traditionally these are ingredients that all give the sour flavor). I’m not a huge fan of the Cheese Boureg myself but my family loves it and will eat a dozen in one sitting. I have also tried thier Tahin Bread and Date Cookies so aromatic and delicious! Bottomline out of all the Armenian bakeries in Pasadena…..hands down this is best quality product! Con- because they supply allot of the local markets in the area with thier goods….they tend to run out of Manahesh and Bouregs pretty early in the day. Pro- if you know ahead of time that you’ll need some stuff they will graciously put items aside for you if you call in advance.

Colorado Bakery – Menu with Prices – 464 Colorado Blvd, Glendale

Love this bakery!!! It is my favorite bakery in LA. The bread is always fresh and delicious. I love the Matnakash(crunchy on outside, fluffy on the inside), Barbari(has sesame seeds sprinkled on the bread) and lavash. The place also has a mini market inside which is very convenient. Love coming to Colorado bakery every morning for some fresh bread.

Apizza Center and Italian Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5408 26th St W, Bradenton

It’s apparent from the start that the owners love their craft. From the use of quality ingredients, to the care they put into preparing the food, to the fact that pizza making and Italian food has been in their family for generations. It’s clear from the start that these people have passion. I was skeptical at first but the moment you walk in the door you can see that you’re more than just a number or a means for profit. You’re family! And a family that eats together, stays together. I would highly recommend!

Various Artists Brewing – Menu with Prices – 1011 Elm Hill Pike, Nashville

This is by far my favorite spot in Nashville. My husband and I first went in while we had family visiting. We were lured in by a Facebook post about charcoal grilled burgers and, of course, the beers! We next checked their website to see other possible food options, as we had a vegetarian coming along. The FAQs section of the website was not only super informative but had a certain wit and humor to it that sealed the deal! We went in for an early dinner and beers and were BLOWN AWAY! Immediately walking in we were greeted by the friendly, laid back staff and we felt right at home. We chatted with the inviting young woman working the counter! We sat and quickly made friends with customers around us. Our beers were delicious and cold and the food…. TO DIE FOR. The prices are more than fair, food fresh and good portioned. My husband and I went back last week for our second visit ; a little Sunday Funday. We were hoping they would have burgers cooking again, or really anything on the grill but they were still working on figuring out the prime hours to have their food menu running. We totally get it. We chatted with Pat, working the bar, and some folks sitting next to us. We stayed for almost two hours enjoying beers and some community bread (delicious) and olive oil dipping sauce that was set out. We cannot say enough about the service, quality of product and overall GOOD ENERGY of this spot. It is a small space, which really, adds to the cool vibe and community feel. We will be back at least once a week. Make sure to bring a growler so you can take some beer home with you !!! Family friendly – great prices – great staff – very clean – great atmosphere – delicious, fresh food – funky decor – games – great front patio – COLD BEER!

Delicias Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1704 Central Ave, Kansas City

I love the cake at this bakery. I have ordered many cakes from this place and have never been let down by flavor. They offer a variety of flavors and fillings as well as other desserts like cheesecakes and tarts. THE BAD: price vs. quality. I don’t mind paying good money for a product that’s worth it. I feel like the quality delivered on special order cakes from this bakery falls short. If you have “somewhat detailed or complicated” order the owner gets called to discuss your cake order. I dread this. He always seems in a hurry and doesn’t seem extremely interested in what your telling him. He’s very quick and the experience doesn’t feel like a consultation at all. When you’re spending upwards of $350-$400 for a cake, you want to be listened to, you want to make sure you’re getting what you think you’re paying for. He lacks this quality. Also, in comparison to other similar bakeries, Delicias up charges for a lot of design items that other’s don’t. THE GOOD: The cake is ALWAYS moist, the fillings are always fresh. Cakes have always been on time. You really can’t beat the taste quality of their cakes. Because the cake quality exist I will still consider this bakery an option, but for the price they charge they need to step it up on their delivery. They also offer single slices of most of the flavors they offer, which is good if you’ve never had cake from here and are looking to potentially order. Even when I’m not ordering a cake. I’ll stop in just to crab a slice. SUPER YUMMY! The front desk employees are always nice and ready to help as well.

Rob’s Wicked Chicken & Wedges – Menu with Prices – 466 Horton St E, London

Had to charge my car and found this place by accident. What an amazing discovery. As you may have read in some of my previous reviews, I have a soft spot for family run businesses and this is no exception. Rob and his wife and son were all so accommodating and kind. You can fee the love in their food. This used to be a Mary Browns but have left the chain to go off in their own to perfect fried chicken. And perfect they did. Had the Big Wicked sandwich. And wow is it ever wickedly awesome. The fries were amazing. Hand chopped and fried. So so fresh. Had the Macaroni salad too. Wow. You can taste the freshness. Sat there feeling so content and the owner was sitting with his family at the next table eating the same chicken. I was so impressed that their own family (including the mother in law) all sat there eating the same food we were eating. We started chatting in friendly talk and told him how much we loved the food. You can tell Rob takes great pride in his product so he got up and said “wait here a few minutes”. He comes back with some fresh fried chicken hand battered for us on the spot. Oh my gosh was it so good. The middle of the breast was moist and flavourful. Bathed in his signature “wicked sauce” that was literally “finger licking great!” He is such a nice man and a warm family. I noticed he greeted everyone personally and thanked them for coming. Customer service: 5/5 Experience: 5/5 Quality: 5:5 Will I repeat? Absolutely Do I recommend: Absolutely If you are ever in the London area stop here to try their fried chicken. Was the best fried chicken I have ever eaten in my life. No joke.

Valley Lahvosh Baking Company – Menu with Prices – 502 M St, Fresno

This is a really cool place. We stopped in after finding it quite by accident. Actually, we were surprised that it was open in the middle of the day for some reason but it was! They specialize in breads and water crackers and have been around a long, long time. And at this location! I knew nothing about Armenian goodies. The gal working inside was super sweet and was informative about this history of Lahvosh and some of its history. The walls are adorned with old time photos of the shop and how it has changed over the years. We saw many Hollywood stars signed photos who have likely tried the product or graced their doors. We got samples of the crackers (heart shaped!) and bought some fresh sesame seed buns. Also, we purchased a round bread on the $2 day old table. Still fresh. Have yet to try the bread as we are saving them for a special occasion but we were told they freeze really well – great! So, we froze them as soon as we got home but have all the confidence that they will be yummy. I have to go back as they sell Armenian butter but they were out. I have a weakness for good butter and I want to try. They also sell cold drinks in the cooler. All prices very reasonable.

Franz Bakery Outlet Menu with Prices 10356 W Fairview Ave, Boise

First of all What is everyone comparing this BLAND, TASTLESs, WHITE BREAD, too? No matter what they call it on the wrapper. It all taste the same. Also most market are dominated by their Tasteless wonder bread, I call it that, because in a blind taste test you would not be able to tell one type of bun from the next. Also for and area with such a low minimum wage. You really do work for Franz bread. They are always the most expensive choice. The people who have posted about them being Bargain Quality Product, need to really try some other bakerys out their. They will quickly see what I am saying. Even their Doughnuts not only fall apart ; and are flavorless too for the most part. When you really come down to it. The only thing Quality, Premium, about the bakery Brand FRANZ products IS THE PRICE THEY CHARGE YOU!!!

The Cornivore Popcorn Company Menu with Prices 3225 Girard Blvd NE, Albuquerque

I stopped into ABQ NM looking for some New Mexico treats to bring back to my family while driving from San Diego to Tennessee. I found the Cornivore through Yelp and got off the exit to head about a mile from the highway where I found my parking spot right out front of this unassuming popcorn factory – Cornivore. I walked up to the door where I was graciously greeted by the owner Robert. Robert knew his product inside and out and was very generous in with his popcorn samples. From savory to sweet Robert and his team have a popcorn to satisfy even the pickiest of popcorn aficionados. I really was impressed with the Cornivores customers service, quality, and quantity of product. I also found out that they do not use artificial flavors or ingredients which is a huge plus for me!! I initially went in for one bag and left with 5 due to how good everything tasted!!! My favorites were the Sweet Green Chili Kettle Corn and Rosemary/ Garlic popcorn. Price was $6 for large bag with a deal if you bought 2 to get your 3rd half off . If you find yourself looking for a affordable and unique popcorn experience look no further than Cornivore.

Strapworks.com – Menu with Prices – 3900 W 1st Ave, Eugene

Ordered a 1″ strap with fixed loops at each end including a cam buckle. The order did take a little longer than expected ( about 2 weeks ) although customer service did respond quickly via email when I inquired. The product itself was quality and the buckle held firmly. I use these straps for a makeshift TRX system for working out so I trust the quality with my life! The price was about 35 for 2 straps. 2 quality handles with a carabiner were only 20 from another company on Amazon. The TRX system is about 150-200 so I think this is a much better deal and quite effective. I am sure there are other companies with similar products but this would be hard to beat for the price and quality.

Plaza Cafe & Grill – Menu with Prices – 4041 N Central Ave, Phoenix

Staff Review: Arriving here at 7:00AM on a Friday morning, there was nobody else at this restaurant, nor was there anyone else in sight outside. When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who was preparing the coffee for the restaurant. This same individual also took my order, and was pleasant the entire time. Price Review: I don’t know anywhere else in the valley where an order of French Toast is $3.69. Because I also ordered a side order of Hash Browns, after tax, my total came to $5.95. That’s definitely a steal. In terms of price, this restaurant can not be beat. Price point = 5 Stars Food Quality Review: As mentioned, I ordered the French Toast with a side order of hash browns. After about 10 minutes, it arrived smelling and looking delicious. The French Toast was average. It was slightly over cooked and pretty dry. This restaurant puts the syrup on for you. I decided to not eat the forth half slice. The hash browns were decent. I ordered them well done, but they’re pretty standard. French Toast Quality = 3 stars. Overall, I’d probably come back here if I have some free time in the morning before work and try something else.

Fiscalini Cheese Company – Menu with Prices – 7206 Kiernan Ave, Modesto

I had just recently took a fun field trip to a dairy farm in Modesto, Ca (in the fertile San Joquain Valley), where a small local artisnal cheese producer also makes its home–FISCALINI FARMSTEAD CHEESE. Here I got to watch a shift make a batch of cheese, cuz I was invited by a friend, tours are available through appointments only, though the website fiscalinicheese.com will save you the travel, but not the experience. All the milk that produces their cheeses come from their cows on the farm. Only about 10% of the milk production goes to the making of their quality cheese, the other is sold as a commodity to wholesalers. So they are a dairy first who eventually got into the cheese CRAFT. (Notice that’s Craft with a “C” not KRAFT with a “K”) Important point because they are trying to create a gap between them and industrial food producers as KRAFT FOODS, INC. All their cheese uses super fresh raw milk (the cows are within viewing distance), and raw meaning unpasteurized. This type of milk produces a very unique and unfiltered type of cheese which is full in flavor and texture. Refer to their website for their offerings, but I will recommend a few here which were memorable. Cheddar is one of their specialties, but it is not the orange variety. They offer white cheddars of different ages, all differing in characteristics. The youngest, round 6-8 months aging is tangy yet creamy. The BANDAGE WRAPPED AGED CHEDDARS ranging from 18-24 months are drier in texture, but more complex in flavors. I tend to eat these with nuts and fruits with wine for dessert after a good meal with friends. The SAN JOQUAIN GOLD is a fontina style cheese but made unique by Fiscalini. It’s semi firm with a mild but nutty flavor. Great for snacking or traditional cooking applications ie salads/sandwiches. The LIONZA an alpine style swiss cheese was a total treat. Less salt than the cheddars but just as complex and satisfying. The melting quality is exceptional, so this melted on bread or potatoes is yum-o-riffic. Their product is in limited distribution, select Costcos, Whole Foods, and specialty cheese markets. If you can’t find it, you can get it shipped through their website. There is one product which is distributed quite greatly which is their PURPLE MOON cheese which is their young cheddar soaked in red wine. It has a purple exterior but creamy in the middle. Though it isn’t bad it just seems more like a marketing tool for them, since it is a good seller. But to me they have so many other products which are more worthy in an epicurean sense. Give their cheese a try cuz it’s damn good and it’s local. Happy cows really do come from California!
