We were greeted by a very friendly woman, who a few minutes after taking our order, brought us our banchan. And that was the start of a wonderful meal. NINE banchan dishes, including a veggie pajeon. They all seemed fresh and several were especially tasty. Definitely among the best banchan I’ve had. Not too long later, she brought some broth and mixed grain rice. I’d asked several other restaurants in the area for mixed grain or brown rice, but none had it. And here she was, bringing it to me without my even asking for it! I shared Godeungeo Jorim (Braised Mackerel) and Mul Naengmyoen (Cold Arrowroot Noodles) with my husband. The Godeungeo Jorim huge (and SUPER delicious), and honestly along with the banchan was more than enough for the two of us. It had 4 large pieces of makerel, probably an entire potato’s worth of slices, a lot of onion, large slices of pepper, and rice cake slices (like used in Ttbeokbokki). There was a very generous helping of spicy, red sauce, which was not so spicy that my husband complained (which means it was about ‘medium’), and also had a bit of sweetness which made it uber tasty. I find $20 to be pretty expensive for an entrée, but this was so worth it! I almost regret ordering the Naengmyoen, because by the time we’d finished the Godeungeo Jorim, we were so full we couldn’t fully appreciate the Naengmyoen. Though I liked it a lot, despite my lack of appetite by that time, so still glad I got to try it. If I could rate higher than 5*, I would. It was a great experience from start to finish. Oh, and during the meal the woman filled up one of our banchan items without even asking, and came back several times to make sure there wasn’t something we wanted more of. So great service and great food.

Kook Korean BBQ Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 2800 E 1st Ave #211A, Vancouver

Yikes…………. Honestly one of the worst Korean restaurants I’ve ever been to. Like everyone else, I was super intrigued by their pictures of the BBQ with all the banchan (Korean side dishes) around it. My boyfriend and I ordered the “Combination A (for 2) $58.95” with comes with prime beef rib, spicy pork, chicken, bulgogi beef, soft tofu soup, rice and their “banchan”. – Let’s talk about the portions: Immediately I noticed that they were average size but more on the smaller side. That’s fine, as long as the quality and taste makes up for up. – Quality: Honestly not much to talk about because it just wasn’t there. The only good thing was their prime beef. – Their “banchan”: I put quotations around the word because I truly can’t justify using the word banchan for their “banchan”. They give you 15 different types of “banchan”. I personally don’t think cutting up a couple pieces of lettuce with oil on it, pasta with oil, plain garlic, plain broccoli and jalapeño slices are considered banchan for a Korean resturant… It didn’t taste anywhere close to true banchan you get can in Korea or even at other restaurants. It definitely didn’t taste like an eldery Korean lady (if you’re Korean, you know what I mean haha). – Flavour: Nothing from the meat, tofu soup and their “banchan” had flavour. I rarely ever not finish my meal but I honestly could not finish. Another thing that really didn’t sit well with me was the cattiness of 2 of the waitresses. In the corner of my eye, I saw 2 waitresses standing together “cleaning” and making rude comments in Korean about customers in the restaurant. Having them stare at me and other customers making comments just made me super uncomfortable and judged. I was thankful that there was a shift change during our meal and we received a different friendly waitress towards the end of our meal. Aesthetically it is on point. The interior is nice, modern, clean and crisp. The way they present their “banchan” is also nice. I give them a 1 star because it was super expensive for the quality, lack of flavour and judgemental waitresses. The meal costed $70+ including tip and it just felt like the biggest waste of money. Unfortunately I will not be a returning customer and I would not recommend this place.

Lazeez Fresh Mediterranean Menu with Prices 4666 Broadway, Allentown

I brought my husband here yesterday because I was craving Mediterranean food and had heard this was a good place. Iâ??m going to say right now, itâ??s not good – this place is phenomenal! The man at the counter immediately greeted us and everyone who walked in while we were there. He was friendly and offered menu ideas to my husband and I. I ordered the chicken shawarma combo for my husband and side orders of falafel and stuffed grape leaves for myself (my husband had only had this type of food once before so heâ??s still figuring it all out). The food arrived reasonably quickly and was obviously freshly made. The woman who brought the food to our table was really nice and very understanding of my silliness when I misunderstood her and thought she had brought me the wrong plate. The portions were huge – Iâ??m eating leftovers while writing this and thoroughly enjoying them as well. The little honey cakes on both plates were a delicious touch and a tasty end to our meals. For those looking for cheap options yes, this will seem a little pricey. However, the freshness of the food and the quality are why itâ??s a little pricey and are well worth the few extra dollars. Thank you to the owner and his team for a great place!! Weâ??ll definitely be back!

Ahipoki – Gilbert – Menu with Prices – 3051 S Market St Suite# 101, Gilbert

This is the BEST poke I have had the pleasure of consuming, hands down. I love the ability to order the “half and half” to create my own sashimi salad! I’ve been to other establishments that serve poke and none offer the variety of fresh poke nestled on a bed of your favorite rice and an option to add a nice mixed leafy greens. You can choose from an assortment of menu sauces (or create your own blend) and finally, you can add toppings galore to round out your meal. * here’s the twist, I have the entire order mixed in a large bowl before serving. The staff is always friendly and outgoing. My fave: I dub it the “kitchen sink” Large bowl with 1 scoop each of blazing salmon, tuna luau and spicy tuna. I select the 50-50 mix of brown rice and leafy greens, add 2 scoops of avocado, house spicy sauce, all the toppings (except pineapple), don’t forget the crushed red peppers and dried onion.

Jang Su Jang – Menu with Prices – 3645 Satellite Blvd, Duluth

I understand why this place is so highly rated. It’s GOOD and probably one of the best Korean restaurants I’ve been to ever. There are a few that have come close, but this place is definitely way up there for me. My bf and I went with another couple who are Korean and they told us that this is their top favorite place. I posted some photos on my insta-story and I had several people reach out telling me this is their favorite Korean restaurant in Atlanta too, so you KNOW it’s good and highly regarded. There was a bit of a wait, maybe 10-15 minutes, but it passed by quickly. The service was good, but it helps that they have buttons on each table to call when you need something. But even when we didn’t press the button, they came around occasionally to refill our waters when needed. _ wan mandu / steamed king dumplings The king of dumplings. These were hands down the biggest dumplings I’ve ever seen, and they were FULLY packed with filling. Perfectly steamed and the flavor was great. It relied on the actual ingredients of the filling rather than extra salt or MSG. Highly recommend ordering this. Also, these tasted HOMEMADE and not store bought, which made me really happy. _ seafood pancake This was very filling and was quite thicc (that’s what she said). This was great and was packed with seafood. I hate when I go to a Korean restaurant and get the seafood pancake with barely any seafood mixed in. Not today. I was very impressed with this. _ galbi jjim / stewed short rib HANDS DOWN my favorite part of the meal. The beef literally falls apart in your mouth, and the stewed veggies are so jam packed full of flavor from the sauce. An absolute must order. It was probably the most expensive thing we ordered, but it was also my #1 favorite entree. I’ve actually made this once before and NEVER had it in a restaurant, so I was really happy to finally get to try what it’s REALLY supposed to taste like. I’m happy to say, if I had my friends try it, they would’ve been impressed. _ bossam meal / pork shoulder with lettuce wraps The pork was tender, and the assortment of veggies to put in your lettuce wraps was great. I would consider this one of the traditional eats – putting meat, rice, and veggies in a lettuce wrap. It’s a great way to eat the meal, for sure! _ tofu and pork I’m actually not sure what the name of this dish is, but it was tofu and pork mixed with kimchi. It was great. The tofu actually was quite nice, especially if you mix the tofu with the pork. Absolutely delicious. This was probably also our only spicy dish, so it balanced quite nicely with everything else we had. _ banchan Obviously the banchan comes with your meal, and it comes with a huge assortment of things: two types of noodles (japchae being one of them), veggies, seaweed, the works. Can never go wrong with banchan, especially when they are willing to refill them! After tax and tip, it was about $40 per person. Not bad while being FULLY stuffed, while also being refreshed with a soju to share.

Pupraya Thai Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 945 Rice St, St Paul

My husband and I went to Pupraya for lunch yesterday. It was fantastic! I had gone there separately on another occasion when the restaurant first opened. My initial opinion of Pupraya at that time was that the food was great but the service was very lacking. I was served my food and no one ever checked back at all. And it wasn’t busy at all. The waitresses were just sitting around eating their lunches and none of them came over until the end of my meal to give me my bill. So, my first experience there was very mixed. But, I decided to give it a second try. It’s not often you find really good thai food in the area. My husband ordered the chicken pad thai (volcano spicy) and I had the chicken panang curry (volcano spicy) and we shared. Let me tell you – the food was amazing! Even though it was spicy, it was not overpowered. It had a wonderful blend of flavors. The serving size of the chicken pad thai entree was also huge. We had a bunch of leftovers. Next time, we might just order the chicken pad thai with an appetizer and share. My husband also had the sticky rice with mango for dessert. He loved it. Note: The menu was wonderful too. It was simple, and well put together. I personally loved the photos of the food. They also had 2 big screen tvs showing photos of their food. It was a nice touch. The service also had definitely improved. Seems as though they just had some growing pains at the beginning. We were a bit surprised at how empty the restaurant was though. We went around noon and we were the only ones there . During our meal, there was another group that came in but that was it. I really hope that they get more busy and stick around. It’s a hidden gem and definitely worth checking out. I have not been there at dinner time so perhaps they are more busy. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try some great thai food.

Cafe Shambala – Menu with Prices – 382 4th Ave, Salt Lake City

I came here based on the recommendation of my friend who works next door and I was in NO way disappointed. The people are friendly and patient and the fact that they have a lunch buffet won me over immediately, I can’t wait to go back and try it(I mean come on, soy milk rice pudding?! Yes!)! I ordered the vegetarian plate and was astonished at the huge amount of food that came out for $9. Worth every penny. The spicy potatoes were fresh tasting and perfectly cooked, sliceable with a fork. The fried rice was better than any I’ve ever had and had such a unique flavor to it, I couldn’t get enough. And the fried Momos were out of this world! I put some of the spicy sauce on top and gobbled them up. My husband (a picky eater) got a large portion of beef fried rice and loved every bite of it! This place is such a fun gem right in the middle of an avenues neighborhood.

Al Wadee Restaurant and bakery Menu with Prices 311 S Brookhurst St, Anaheim

I tried this place last week and have been meaning to write a review worthy of my experience. I ordered the kabob steak platter with hummus, rice and salad with pita slices and a side of baclava. It was incredible! I’m very picky on my Mediterranean food let alone trying places other than my fav place in the pack district. But now this is my new favorite place for sure! Service was great and friendly and even gave me extra bread because I had left over hummus. I literally ate ever grain of rice and drop on my plate because it was THAT good. And I don’t know what it is but I always leave food on my plate and never finish a meal, except that night! I even took my plate back to them to show them and the cook how delicious I thought their food was!

Big Mama Chims Noodle House – Menu with Prices – 905 Alley A, Columbia

This is very authentic! Truly a hidden gem. As a New Yorker, I was surprised that we were able to get such great (Northern) Thai food in Columbia, MO. I ordered the Tom Kha soup with sticky rice on the side ($2.50 for the sticky rice, but it well worth it), and my friends ordered green curry chicken rice and Pad Thai. They were all very satisfied! I also love the fact that they have the ‘spice caddy’ for every table, which includes peanuts, Thai dry chili flakes and spicy sour sauce. The Thai tea was on the sweet side and they mixed it with half and half instead of the traditional condensed milk. When the server takes your order, you’ll be asked to indicate the spicy level you’d like to have in your food, on a scale of 3 to 10: 3 being the least spicy and 10 being the most spicy. I chose 6.5 because I was told by my friend (who loves spicy food) says that 7 was pretty hot. I love my Tom Kha – it was just the right amount of spiciness and the right amount of food. The coconut milk that is part of the Tom Kha really added a great complexity to the dish. A must-try!

Kanpai Japanese Restaurant and Sushi – Menu with Prices – 5935 Dublin Blvd Suite 100, Colorado Springs

They have a great menu selection. The space is nice and they offer a good amount of seating. We went on a weekday afternoon for dinner and there was no wait for seating. I was able to order a kids menu teriyaki chicken for my daughter before my husband and I were ready to order and her food came out fast. We ordered 3 different sushi rolls. They seemed very fresh and there was a good fish to rice ratio. My husband ordered a beef yakiniku which came with rice, salad and vegetable tempura. I would say for my husband and I’s meal it was worth the price. My daughter’s meal, however, only came with meat and rice. I had to order a drink and a vegetable side for her for additional cost. I don’t think this is worth the price because I can go to other sushi restaurants and get a kids meal that includes a drink, a side of veggie, California roll, and even ice cream. Sushi restaurants are already pricey as it is, so I don’t think this was a fair deal as far as kids menu.

Ohana Poké – Menu with Prices – 320 S Tryon St Suite 114, Charlotte

Stopped in here for lunch since the line was long for sushi at another place. I was telling a friend how I was craving poke and we wandered into Latta Arcade and boom, Ohana Poke appeared. Win! You can choose a bowl or build your own. I built my own. First you start with a size, regular(16oz) for about $10 or large (32 oz) for about $12. You can choose white rice, brown rice, mixed greens or two things. I went with a regular size and brown rice and mixed greens. You can choose your protein which is marinated ahi tuna, salmon or tofu. They also have a plain cooked shrimp option. Then there’s a bunch of toppings. I got scallions, rice seasoning, jalapenos, cucumber, sweet onion, edamame and I sprung for the $1 avacado. The only extra cost toppings are the seaweed and avacado. And the avacado is half of an avacado. I saw them slice it while I was waiting. Well worth it!. They have a bunch of sauces. I did the ponzu, spicy aoioli, and eel sauce. Once you got through the line, the food was pretty fast. The line was out the door to order. They were giving out complimentary beverages today which was a plus. The only thing I disliked was that it was really warm inside of Latta Arcade making the restaurant warm. I felt like I was going to pass out, but that probably wasn’t their fault. Also, this is more of an in and out type of place. There’s maybe a couple of tables in the hallway if no one else is sitting there. The food was delicious and hit the spot. The veggies were crisp and fresh. The tuna was on point and full of flavor and rice was cooked perfectly. The sauces, especially the spicy aoioli added a creaminess that paired well with the marinade. Glad that this is an option now!

The Original Blue Adobe Grille – Menu with Prices – 144 N Country Club Dr, Mesa

Went for a Saturday night dinner with the family. We had about a 10 minute wait. Once seated we were brought complimentary chips and fire roasted salsa. The salsa is really dark and doesn’t look very appealing, but it was very tasty. We also ordered chicken chowder and guacamole to start. The chicken chowder is probably some of the best I have ever had. Next, entrees. My son ordered lobster tamales (I told him not to order those). Husband ordered salmon tacos (comes with rice and beans) and I ordered a mix and match dinner. My dinner had a pork tamale and a chicken enchilada. Server asked if I wanted red or green sauce or a combo of both. He said the red “was a little spicy”. I like spice so I said both. Here’s where all the trouble started. When my meal arrived, I took a big bite of chicken enchilada and dredged it in the red sauce. Y’all, this was the spiciest sauce EVER! I was coughing and drinking water like a maniac. I literally could not think. My taste buds were unconscious!! This was waaayyyy more than a little spicy. It was inedible! Seriously could not eat after 3 or 4 bites. The lobster tamales were awful (as I knew they would be). The salmon tacos were just ok. The server felt really bad about the sauce and tried to help by bringing sour cream to try to calm my taste buds. He also offered to bring me something else but at that point, I couldn’t taste anything anymore. My son also ordered sopitas for dessert and they were just average as well. Our meal wasn’t 100% awful, but I really don’t have to go back again.

Jessy’s Pizza – Menu with Prices – 30 Farnham Gate Rd, Halifax

I don’t often go to pizza places as (like the last reviewer) I have zero self control, so when I do, I go for the single slice. Also, When I get pizza I expect it to be excellent because it is my cheat meal! I’ve learned that, at this location the best time to get a slice is between 2:00pm-3:30pm. During this time, you are getting the freshest slices just after the lunch rush. If you go then, the slices are awesome, cheesey, the sauce tastes like pizza sauce not too sweet, not too spicy and good amount of toppings. Following this time, however, I find the slices aren’t as great, maybe rushed for the supper hour? just aren’t as well put together. and late night…. stay away! It’s the left overs! If you are looking for a fresh slice.. They are Great! I rated it 4 because if you go at the right time it’s awesome! totally worth the calories. But they would have gotten a 5 if they were more consistant!
