My friends and I were out late and looking for a place open around 10 pm without too long of a wait. It was a Friday night so a lot of food places were way too packed, as I had to leave early to go to work. We found this place on Yelp and decided to go. It’s a little dive bar in Garden Grove filled with lots of regulars. We were seated immediately for three and our waters came out right away as well. I went along with their Loaded Fries and my friends respectively got their Garlic Parmesan Fries and Fried Cheese Sticks. Oh man, those loaded fries were absolutely delicious. It was very cheesy, meaty, and a little spice with jalapenos. If I wasn’t going to work that night, I would’ve had a couple beers. They have a good selection of beers and wines and their prices honestly were not too bad at all. Huge shout out to Paula! Very great vibe and service! She was always on the move, checking up on everyone. Even though it was our first time, she treated us like her own regulars. If you need a quick dive bar and great, cheap food, this is your place. They have little arcade and board games. Pool tables in the back as well. No public restrooms. There is plenty of parking in their lot and street parking as well.

Paula Brown Shop – Menu with Prices – 912 Monroe St, Toledo

I live and work near the Paula Brown store and have been a regular here for a while. Their selection and knowledge of kitchenware and home goods is top notch. There is a free parking lot and the entire staff is amazing. The staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful. They have a really nice pub with some great drinks and good selection of spirits. I enjoy going there on Saturdays because Diane who used to run Sid and Diane’s in Perrysburg is there with dishes that you can take home and just heat and serve that are truly amazing and sometimes she prepares food that you can eat in the pub. Diane is an awesome cook and very knowledgeable and always has some great entrees every Saturday. They have a great wine selection as well. Paula Brown shop is a real downtown treasure

Kava Hookah Lounge – Menu with Prices – 1007 W University Ave, Gainesville

Got there around 230iish and it wasnt packed but there were a decent amount of people there. Unfortunately we had to wait almost 45 mins to get a hookah and there wasnt a place to sit! The music was hip hop and rap (mainly trap) so it was deff a turnt up atmosphere. They didnt sell any drinks though ð??© once we finally did manage to get a seat the hookah was almost out and they were about to close. By that time they were finally coming to give us another cole but it kinda was a waste â?â??? just wish they wouldve had more hookas available and more seating space or even a dance floor maybe. Other then that the atmosphere was nice and we enjoyed the music.

Newfys Tavern – Menu with Prices – 552 Hickok Ave, Syracuse

Your neighborhood dive bar at its finest! Drove by this bar almost everyday for a year and finally decided to drop in on a random Friday night. We were welcomed with a warm hello by bartender Dave who’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Drink prices are fantastic, they have a decent bottled beer & booze selection and 3 beers on tap. If you show up with 5-10 friends the whole bar is basically yours for the night since you can really only fit 20 people comfortably. It’s a go to in Syracuse for sure!

Le petit Paris 75 – Menu with Prices – 515 Broadway, San Francisco

Stopped by during their soft opening. You would expect to be a dive bar, but it’s far from it. The decor is cute and unique. It’s French themed and gives this place a great vibe. Great selection of French wines and local beers. Plus they have snacks to pair nicely with the wines. Kam the owner is awesome! I love the bar top, definitely matches the place. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their selections.

Undisputed Craft House – Menu with Prices – 1881 Saul Kleinfeld Dr, El Paso

I had read about this place so i was anxious to check it out. I finally did last night…was kinda disappointed. I was given a beer menu that was January’s….then another one for February. Im guessing the beers keep changing because they didnt have the one I picked for January’s menu. Had a young girl that wasnt too helpful in helping me in picking the beers. I asked her what i mostly drank and wanted to see was similar to my choices…she had no answer. She wasnt rude, but not helpful… When I walked in I noticed that the place was too lit. Thought it was bar not a Barnes n Nobles. The crowd seemed pretty chill and the music playing had variety which was a plus. Not a bad place but was expecting a lottle more.

Mason Lounge – Menu with Prices – 416 S Park St, Madison

Probably one of my favorite bars in Madison. I have been here a couple times now with friends and have always had a wonderful time. The bar itself is wonderfully cozy but still has room for larger groups. Additionally, it’s not too loud – you feel like the place has energy and is lively but you are still able to hear your friends talk. They have a great selection of ever-changing beers on tap and they do a good job of bringing in beers from breweries that are lesser known but still delicious. Both times I’ve been there, it’s been the same guy manning the bar and he is friendly, though I can tell he’s often a little frazzled because the bar is pretty busy. The bar doesn’t have food aside from the usual bar snacks but you are able to order pizza from Falbo Bros next door. My friends and I did this once night and the pizza was actually really yummy! I have heard that they have great live music here but I am never able to stay long enough to hear it so I definitely will be back to experience live music at the Mason Lounge.

Bayou Thunder Saloon – Menu with Prices – 1910 Market St, Shreveport

9/2/18. Five stars?? 5 Stars?? But this is a dive bar!! Yes. And dive bars have their place in the night, and sometimes even the day. And a dive bar done right can defeat any velvet rope, top shelf, VIP, bottle service, cabana by the pool that even the most frequent fliers of barflys would have to buzz by and appreciate, if not outright respect. Put on your scuba suit. This just might be the Mariana Trench of dive bars. First off, by the name alone, this is not some race track, nor is it some type of bubba burlesque male revue, which is what the name seems to imply. At least I think so. No, it is not one, nor the other, or even both. It is a dive bar. And it is a five star dive bar. Cigarettes? Smoked openly, proudly and by the carton here. But only if it had Terminator 3 pinball machine? It does!! This place is packed with regulars. And not the crowd that waits til 11pm to get to the point of party to launch into the evening. No. This mass of humanity arrives in droves early, and stays late. And this party will start without you. If you show up at 10, this place is already at full throttle. Everybody, to a person, seems super kind and cheerful. People just having a good time on a night out. Bayou Thunder may or may not be your cup of Long Island Tea, but if you do venture over this way, you’ll be in the company of many others having a blast, and you will have no choice but to feel the Thunder here, and have a blast yourself!

Growler USA – Katy – Menu with Prices – 1443 FM 1463 #100, Katy

This is a really great place to have a microbrew or two! The selection of beers that they have is not matched by anyone I know of in the area! My buds and I frequent the place, largely due to their selection of a wide and diverse selection of brews. I am an IPA fan, Billy is a Porter/Stout fan, Joe Digs IPA’s too, and John prefers Belgians. I’m telling you folks this place has a distinct & diverse selection, and it’s very seasonal, which is very cool! The food…I can honestly say nothing we’ve had has tasted bad. It’s all great! We’ve agreed…once a week for two beers and a bit to eat is needed and pleasing. It’s a great place and the staff is awesome!

Tick Tock Tavern – Menu with Prices – 3459 Magnolia Ave, St. Louis

The Tick Tock is a wonderful neighborhood pub, with an excellent variety of local craft beer, a really decent selection of liquor, and generously priced specialty cocktails. I definitely wouldn’t consider it a dive bar – not sure how anyone else would get that vibe. It’s cozy, clean, safe, and welcoming, not just to regulars but to anyone popping in. No televisions, no boisterous drunks. No creepy dudes harassing women who come in alone. Guests are a nice mix of all (legal) ages, and a crowd as diverse as the neighborhood. Definitely welcoming to people of color, LGBTQ. Staff are all great at making drinks, as well as being sensitive to who’s up for a chat and who wants to be left alone. The Tick Tock reopened under current management a few years ago, after being closed for a long stretch. It’s been thoughtfully updated, without losing the charm of a tavern from decades past. A multimedia display of owls – mostly folk art and kitschy dots the walls, as does a collection of clocks (all set to 4:20… kind of juvenile IMO but oh well…) Really a warm-feeling room. The Tick Tock seems to be adding a lot more programming of late: record sales, DJ spins, movie nights, family sing-alongs on weekend afternoons, and plenty of live music by locals. I’ve never seen them charge a cover, either. The adjoining Steve’s Hot Dogs has dogs, burgers, and loaded mac & cheese for ridiculously low prices. During happy hour, it’s easy grab a $5 burger and a couple $3 cocktails or $5 drafts, read a book or meet with friends, and while away an evening. Highly recommended.

Citizen Soul Menu with Prices 60 S Main St, Alpharetta

This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Alpharetta. I love the vibe here. It’s fancy without feeling pretentious. The service is amazing and the food is two thumbs up. I have been here twice now, both times during the lunch hour. Both of my servers were on it–constantly refilling my water, willing to answer any questions I had, and bringing our food out almost immediately after we ordered. To all my Gluten-Free friends, this place has you covered. They have Gluten-Free fried chicken! Say What?! Yes, that was my reaction too! Since I was recently diagnosed with a Gluten Sensitivity, I thought that I was going to have to say goodbye to most fried foods, but not here! They also have a separate gluten-free fryer for their fries. I’m telling you guys that this place is a win-win. The fried chicken was a huge portion of tender, white meat. It honestly tasted like real fried chicken, if not better. I could not believe it was gluten-free! Their fries are house cut and crispy– just the way I like them. They are cooked in duck fat, which gives them a different taste than you’ve probably had before. Prior to becoming gluten free, I tried their house burger. This thing is fully loaded with ingredients and you will not leave hungry after eating this one. Now, I would just order a lettuce wrap instead of a bun when I order. My first visit here I also tried the pimento cheese fritters. These are a must order if you can consume gluten. They are so good! They have an impressive wine selection, so make sure you try a glass or two! I opted for the rose’ and it was so good. I do recommend using the Yelp app or calling to make reservations. The restaurant on the small side and can fill up quickly–better safe than sorry! Street parking is available all throughout downtown and there is also a parking deck near city hall (behind the restaurant).

Tommy’s Pub – Menu with Prices – 3124 Eastway Dr Suite 710, Charlotte

Dive Bar: A dive bar is a type of bar or pub. Dive bars generally have a relaxed and informal atmosphere — they are often referred to by local residents as “neighborhood bars,” where people in the neighborhood gather to drink and socialize. Individual bars may be considered to be disreputable, sinister, or even a detriment to the community. Tommy’s Pub may not be some people’s idea of fun, but if you are a fan of dive bars, Tommy’s is a masterpiece.  I had one friend say he liked it because he is always the youngest one there and he is early 40s.   We went in one afternoon, drank a couple of beers and listened to George Jones and Johnny Cash.   It’s so fun to walk out of a dimly lit bar and being blinded by the sun. Feeling the sun on your face with a happy little afternoon buzz.  If you go in be sure to buy your membership, it’s a private club.

The Thirsty Topher – Menu with Prices – 601 Virginia Dr, Orlando

Sweet little neighborhood pub. Lots of local brews to choose from. Bartender, big Rick, was very helpful. He gave great recommendations. Service was excellent. I wanted to beers, but only wanted to have one beer. He allowed me to have half of each beer. That was perfect. It’s a little warm inside, they’re not running their air-conditioning low or they don’t have any. It looks like there’s a cute little patio outside. There is a small parking lot behind, so you don’t have to park on the street. They have draft beers and bottled beers and canned beers. So there’s something for everyone. The inside decor is really neat. The bar is live edge wood, so beautiful. Casual place to drop by and have a beer or two with friends. I’ll be back to try something else from their dark beers selection. But I did enjoy the putting and the 10 fiddy.
