Khoi Hung’s menu offers French inspired Vietnamese dishes. I happen to find myself in the area and decided to dine solo at Khoi Hung for dinner. I ordered the filet mignon ($12.99) in garlic butter sauce. This entree comes with your choice of red rice, French fries, macaroni, or a baguette. I opted for the macaroni and ordered an additional side of French fries ($2.99) because I was indecisive. Before my meal was brought out, I was given complimentary soup and salad. The soup was egg drop and with a little bit of black pepper, was good for what it was. The salad portion was small, however, the dressing was delicious – some sort of soy sauce vinaigrette. This was a nice surprise. My steak came out on sizzling hot platter. It sat on top of a bed of onions, and the garlic butter (actual garlic pieces) continued to melt and cook at the table. The steak was so tender and flavorful. I liked the addition of the onions as well – it paired well with the steak. The macaroni was a tad greasy, but the fries with surprisingly really good. I initially thought they’d taste starchy from the way that they looked, but when I bit into one, I was taken aback at the freshness of the fry. Overall, I had a really great dining experience here. You really get a lot for your money. The restaurant doesn’t have the upscale French-Vietnamese feel that similar restaurants have, but overall, food was on par. It’s also cash only.

Mon Ami Cafe Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 14291 Euclid St D116, Garden Grove

NOTE: Cash only Such a cute place. It’s like dining on the streets of Paris with the backdrops and railings. I like that this place is clean and has plenty of parking. Each table has an organized utensil bin consisting of chop sticks, forks, spoons, and dipping trays. We got complimentary garlic bread as starters and ordered Bo Ne which is like an inexpensive version of steak and eggs on a sizzling fajita skillet. Each one comes with one roll of French bread for dipping and a side of Caesar salad with no dressing. Another way to describe Bo Ne is like country fried steak with gravy. The steak was soft and chewy, not recommended for old folks with dentures.                                          -Deep fried hen served with red rice, topped with an over easy egg, bowl of broth, pickled veggies with a side of green (cilantro lime) and red dipping sauce (sweet and tangy). This dish came out last. The chicken was dry in the inside but the dipping sauce helped as well as the broth. -Bo Ne with mushroom wine sauce – creamy. -Bo Ne with pate sauce – more creamy than the mushroom sauce -French Fries – First time I’ve seen French Fries at a Vietnamese restaurant. I guess it fits the theme of dining in France! -Rau Ma (Pennywort) – I ordered Rau Ma dau xanh (mung bean) but they probably only heard the first part. I didn’t bother to complain because it was pretty and the Rau ma was refreshing. I liked that they were careful on the sugar and left it kind of bland for you to pour more in if you want. -Fish sauce wings – The wings could be a bit crispier. It came with the same green sauce and a yellow sauce. The yellow was like a mustard.

Taste of Portugal – Menu with Prices – 148 Delancey Street, Newark

You’re greeted by a friendly and helpful staff as you walk in to the dining room. You could sit either at the bar area or in the dining room in the back. Both have ample seating Bread service was Portuguese bread with warm butter and olives in olive oil seasoned with garlic. The bread was delicious and warm and the butter was spreadable. The olives were seasoned with garlic and olive oil which made them very tasty and the olive oil was a nice base to dip your bread. We ordered three main courses consisted of garlic shrimp with rice and Spanish potatoes, skirt steak with french fries and rice and stuffed shrimp with crabmeat, salad and Spanish potatoes. We ordered a half pitcher of red sangria which was delicious not too strong just perfect. The garlic shrimp with tasty seasoned well with tons of garlic. The Spanish potatoes were crunchy not greasy and delicious. The dish with the stuffed shrimp with crabmeat was great. The shrimps were huge loaded with crab meat. The only thing that we had a problem with was the skirt steak. It was not seasoned well and it was a little tough. But everything else was wonderfully delicious. For dessert we ordered the seradura and tres leche. The seradura was nice and freshly made an the tres leches was also very good, loaded with sweet milk. All in all a great meal with great service on top of it. Will definitely be going back.

Cozy’s Express – Menu with Prices – 1572 Michael St, Ottawa

I love little hidden gems tucked away in industrial parks, and Cozy’s Express is one of them. I had lunch at Cozy’s recently and the food was good, portions were huge, and staff were really friendly. From the outside, the place looks a little worn, and the inside looks like those truck stops at the side of the highway, complete with all sorts of old license plates up on the walls. However, the food is definitely a notch above the typical greasy spoons. They serve the usual diner fare like hamburgers, club sandwiches, Western sandwiches, chicken fingers, etc. But they also have 3 specials everyday that change weekly, which I think gives you the best value – for $12.45 you get a soup, salad, and your choice of main with fries, rice or mashed potatoes. On the day that I went, the specials were chicken stir-fry, liver with bacon and onions, and a veggie burger. The soups of the day were Tomato Macaroni and Cream of Mushroom. I’m not a huge fan of liver, but apparently I need more iron in my diet, so I ordered it and figured that if I didn’t like it, I could at least eat the soup, salad and fries ? I chose the Tomato Macaroni soup, and I couldn’t believe that I got to choose my salad and was able to get more than one type. I honestly expected that the salad would be a garden salad with mostly iceberg lettuce. But no, I got to choose from vinegar based coleslaw, beets and apple, bean salad, creamy potato salad, and macaroni salad. I got a mixture of the first three (although in the future I might just get a bit of everything). The soup was mostly macaroni, celery, carrots, peppers and onions with just a bit of tomato broth. This is exactly the way I like my soups – mostly solids, minimal liquids! And it was tasty to boot! Not overly salty and it was full of flavour. I would definitely order this soup again. The salads were ok. They were a little too wet for my liking, but I really enjoyed the variety. My main dish was huge. I got two very large pieces of liver covered in sauteed onions and bacon bits. The onions and bacon actually did a really good job at masking the taste of the liver, and you know what, I enjoyed my meal, despite not liking liver. The fries were hot and crispy, and they sprinkle some sort of Cajun spices on them or something, which gave them a slight kick. The fries were a tiny bit mealy, but still good. I also liked that they gave me the gravy on the side instead of pouring it all over everything. I actually just dipped my fries in it, instead of pouring it over the liver. It was a bit runny, but still good. I think the guys in the kitchen were trying out some new things because they were passing around some little breadsticks stuffed with either cheese or chocolate sauce. I got to try one of the chocolate ones and it was good. It tasted like a chocolate brioche. Service was really friendly. The servers even call you pet names like “doll” and “sweetie” like the waitresses do at truck stops, lol. The blond one looks like Dolly Parton too! The soups and salads are pre-made, so they come out with lightning speed, which I appreciated because I didn’t have breakfast that day and was starving. Apparently the restaurant has been around since 1983. It’s in an industrial park not too far from St. Laurent Mall. There’s lots of free parking in their private lot behind the restaurant – but watch out for the numerous potholes! I really hope the next time I’m there one of the specials is the Hot Chicken Sandwich. They always have Hot Chicken Sandwich on the menu, but when it’s the special you get a soup and salad for only $0.50 more, lol ?

Brass Monkey – Menu with Prices – 723 Congaree Rd, Greenville

Went here for the opening Clemson game. Pretty cool remodel done in the old Chiefs wings location. The restaurant was barely half-full and it was a seat-yourself situation. Ordered the bacon cheeseburger, medium-rare and asked for onions in addition to the normal fixings. I also asked to upgrade to garlic fries instead of the normal fries. I was told by the waitress that upgrading wasn’t possible and I’d have to pay the full $6 for an order of garlic fries. Ok…. so I ordered the garlic fries in addition to my regular side knowing my wife would eat them. Food comes out and there are no onions on my burger, burger is cooked well-done and dry and my regular order of fries was soggy and drenched in salt. Was hoping a server would come by so I could ask for some onions or get new fries but none came by for 10 min and by that point I was past caring. Garlic fries were the only thing that came out right but they’re definitely weren’t worth the price. The rest of the night was a comical game of asking for a drink refill and guessing how long it would take for it to get to you. My buddy ordered a can of beer if their special menu and it took a solid 15 minutes to get to him. Then our waitress decided it was appropriate to snuggle up and have a kissing session with her apparent boyfriend who was seated at one of the other booths. The only positive of the evening was that Clemson won. Definitely going to stick to Local Cue from now on. Might be busier but at least the food and service are solid.

5.ATE Café – Menu with Prices – 403 E Louetta Rd, Spring

So I have always passed by this place for years and FINALLY had the chance to dine! I was very impressed by the creative burgers on the menu, the fire flames pizza oven and extensive beverage menu! I ordered the Avocado Butter Bacon burger with turkey instead of beef (in lieu of maintaining my “girlish summer figure ) and I added a fried egg for an additional $1! The (well done) fries pictured are garlic buttered, that could have used more garlic flavor infused in the butter) but I also had them add a side or Cajun seasoning because I couldn’t decide on whether I wanted garlic butter or Cajun! I accompanied my meal with a fresh lemonade and took a FLAVORFUL Vietnamese Iced Coffee for the road! Baby, let me tell you, between the freshly baked English muffin on the burger, hospitable and caring servers and the surprise Sriracha Ketchup, I WILL be back very soon!!!

Chicken Guy! – Menu with Prices – 19565 Biscayne Blvd Ste 2946, Miami

I was expecting a lot more from this place, I ordered a chicken sandwich simple enough with two sauces; spicy mayo and garlic sauce. I have to say I was extremely disappointed, seasoning should be added to the batter maybe it wasn?t added that day. I will say the sandwich is well made with good presentation but it lacks in flavor even with the added sauces. I also ordered a side of fries that you have to pay for separately which is fine but they were tepid. The flavor of the French fries were nice but the temperature not so hot. I?d even say the fries are better than five guys which are usually too greasy. I was not satisfied maybe you will have better luck or know exactly what to ask for when ordering. Fries extra hot & crunchy, sandwich flavor please.

The Cheesesteak grill – Menu with Prices – 1771 S Oceanside Blvd, Oceanside

My first time here but without a doubt I’ll be back. It’s so hard to find a place that serves an authentic cheese steak sandwich out here in Cali but this place is the REAL deal! It’s located conveniently off the I-5 freeway so if you just want to grab some sandwiches and go. We pulled up and it’s a small shop located in a strip mall. Just the appearance of this place from the outside made me think this was going to be good. Inside they have a menu posted on the walls and it’s pretty simple. There is plenty of seating and a big screen TV they play sports on. I went for the cheese steak sandwich with hot peppers and a side of “Frings” (french fries & onion rings). They use ribeye steak and only grill up the meat when you order your sandwich. When my meal was ready, just looking at the sandwich I knew I had found a great place. My first bite into the sandwich let me know I was right. I can’t remember the last time I had such a delicious cheese steak sandwich and never this good here in Cali. The meat was tender and the most flavorful! Just the right amount of cheese and the sandwich bread was soft and fresh! I love a sandwich like this where there’s nothing I want to add it’s so delicious. The onion rings and french fries were also good. While I would say the onion rings were good, the fries were the best! Next time I’ll just get the fries. My friend had the garlic fries and I can only assume they were good because she ate them all up and I never got a chance to try them. If you are a fan of cheese steak sandwiches, this place is a MUST! I don’t think you’ll find a better cheese steak! I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

Cafe Bistro – Menu with Prices – 800 Spectrum Center Dr, Irvine

After shopping at the Irvine Spectrum, my daughter wanted to eat here. She wanted pizza and macaroni and cheese. I prefer Tender Greens (my fav) but my kids always come first ? The cafe was very close to closing but the hostess said we were absolutely welcome! My daughter ordered Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza (from a brick oven) and a kids macaroni and cheese for my son and her to share. I had started Day 1 of my liver detox and had to eat something clean. The host said her favorite and lightest dish was the Grilled Asparagas Farro and Frisee Salad and suggested that I add a chicken breast for the protein and order the honey sherry vinaigrette on the side. I didn’t want to eat wheat but I do like farro :O My daughter was wondering if it was Kraft Macaroni and Cheese because we have eaten at an resort that served it on their kid’s meal. Instead they called it Blue Box Macaroni and Cheese. To her luck and surprise, it was the house made creamy kind and came with a side of berries (son’s favorite) and a small drink. I am not a fan of pizza especially pepperoni but it looked so good I had to ask for one slice. Although a little greasy it had lots of chopped mushrooms and fresh basil on top. It was delicious and my two kids finished the whole order! My salad was also surprisingly delicious, the farro, grilled asparagus, french green beans, frisee, tomatoes, toasted pistachios, and aged manchego cheese worked really well together. I could see how it was the hostess ‘s favorite. Very light but filling. Our server tried to throw away our packaged baby wipes and animal crackers but he was a young man and probably didn’t have experience with children. He should also have picked up his tip after we left but we were there after closing ?

Slim Chickens – Menu with Prices – 2711 S Louise Ave, Sioux Falls

I got the opportunity to sit down at Slim Chickens last night. I had tried it once prior, but taking it away and eating it 10 minutes after ordering doesn’t do it justice. We tried out the Cajun Chicken Sandwich and their wings, with the french fries and Parmesan garlic chips. The wings were nice and plump and well coated in sauce, a far cry from Buffalo Wild Wings. The chips were crisp and very flavorful. My chicken sandwich was amazing. It is a simple sandwich but the pickles and the crunchy onion bits were a welcome addition. The chicken was moist and I can’t wait to get it again. If you have the opportunity, dip your fries in their ranch. It was a little tangy with a good consistency. Definitely not your average ranch. I am excited to try it again and again!

Zesto Burgers & Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 2600 New Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem

Ordered delivery through Takeout Central. Tend to be indecisive, and order many things at once to sample bites. Also, if I’m paying a delivery fee, I’m getting enough food to make it worthwhile. Ranking most to least favorite. 1. Patty Melt – burger with mushrooms, onions, supposed to be provolone but tasted like American cheese on Texas toast. I think they accidentally added chopped cheese steak on top of the burger, but it was even beefier and better to me. Edited to add, I just read the sandwich description closer. The sirloin steak was SUPPOSED to be there!! Beef on beef? What’s not to love!?! 2. Grilled Cheese – American cheese, added mushrooms and onions, on Texas toast. Heads up, the sandwiches on Texas toast will be greasy. Still very good, though. 3. Onion Rings – battered, real onions, tasty. If you like Hardee’s onion rings, you’ll probably like these. 4. Wing Basket – 6 wings and fries. Charred, tossed with buffalo sauce. Would have liked more sauce, but there was enough to taste. Strong char flavor, a little dry. 5. Wing Basket, part 2 – Crispy instead of charred, teriyaki sauce on the side. Meat felt drier, sauce was gingery, not too sweet. Still good flavor overall. 6. Fries – thicker than shoestring, thinner than steak fries. Not crispy but cooked, seasoned, a bit droopy. I didn’t hate them, but if you like crispy fries look elsewhere. 7. Veggie Burger – Chipotle black bean burger, lettuce, tomato, added mushrooms and onions. It’s not bad for a veggie burger. I’ve had worse. Might doctor it up with my own garlic & onion powders, and add a condiment of some sort when I finish it off. Guacamole sounds good, I have some to use it before it turns bad. Wanted to try a shake, but didn’t think it would hold up well on the drive to the house. Did like the fact you could add extra items to most sandwiches, as desired, many without additional charge. Found it weird that it cost more to have the wings tossed in sauce versus on the side, especially since the tossed ones were a bit lacking in sufficient sauciness. After 7 bites of multiple sandwiches, 6 assorted wings, 2 onion rings, and a handful of fries later I’m ready for a food coma. I hope the food reheats well in the microwave, there are plenty of leftovers!

Choong Man Chicken – Menu with Prices – 2180 Pleasant Hill Rd, Duluth

I’ll have to say, I read the reviews and thankfully my experience was so much better than I expected! I came on my birthday (none of the workers actually knew that it was, lol) and our table was treated quite well! The four of us decided to try a couple different kinds of chicken, and settled on the Snow Onion Chicken, which has been all over social media, as well as the Garlic Soy Tikkudak wings. And to switch things up, we ordered a side of French Fries. While we were waiting, a server walked around offering around free samples of Curry Chicken, which worked out perfectly since it was our 3rd choice. And we instantly regretted not ordering this, because it was one of my favorite flavors overall! The Snow Onion Chicken is delicious! I love raw onions (I know, gross) but with the sauce and the crispy fried chicken, I found this to be quite hard to stop eating. We even started dipping our French fries in the sauce. The Garlic Soy Tikkudak was recommended by our server and it was ok. Thankfully, we ordered a order of the wings and not the whole chicken. They weren’t bad, but not as amazing as the Curry! Overall, I was very impressed and pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! I will definitely be back, although if I’m looking for a mediocre and cheap alternative closer to me, I may just stick to Hello Chicken. But did I mention it’s also next door to Ding Tea? Let me know if that changes your mind!!! Lol!

Fattoush Lady – Menu with Prices – 73-99 Slater St, Ottawa

I believe Madame Fattoush Lady was located somewhere else before closing and re-opening at this new location fairly recently (this year, I think). Many people were excited for them to come back, so, of course, I had to stop in. I had been craving a fattoush salad and decided to grab one to go on the way to work. The line-up was to the door, which was a good sign that it was so busy, but service was fast. Unlike most other shawarma places, the fattoush salad here was already made and in a large quantity, rather than having to be assembled as people ordered. It was very popular, so the container kept getting refilled with fresh salad. I ordered a medium chicken fattoush salad (a large comes with one or two salads, like fattoush, tabbouleh, or Greek), which also comes with a serving of garlic sauce or hummus, and a quarter of a thin pita bread on the side, if you’d like. I saw a sign near the front that said they have spicy garlic and spicy hummus now as well. I went with the garlic sauce and asked for some tahini on top. The salad was not at all soggy, which you may expect if it was pre-tossed. I noticed it had also some extra veggies in it that you don’t often see in other fattoush salads, like little cauliflower florets and I think some broccoli – great addition for texture and heartiness. The pita bread in the salad is baked instead of fried, so not as crunchy as I would have liked, but definitely crunchier than I expected, especially when they were already tossed in the salad. I like a lot of garlic sauce, so I thought the portion they scooped on the side may not have been enough, but it was perfect and stronger than some others I’ve had, which is great (for me, but not for my colleagues). The salad dressing itself was just the perfect amount of tartness and sourness for me – lemon juice, I think, and super refreshing. Unlike the beef that was in a container with the marinade(?), the chicken was the only meat on the vertical rotating spit to shave off. Surprisingly, it was far more tender and moist than I thought it would be – an opposite experience to other chicken shawarmas I’ve had. I don’t typically prefer chicken because it tends to be overcooked, but this was done just right and very flavorful. The service was fast and friendly, and the filling meal was under $10 with tax, which is unheard of and usually at least $13 or so without tax. I was happy with absolutely everything about it, and the restaurant itself is modern and clean, so I may even sit in one day to try their other wraps and potatoes. Recommend this place 110%.
