I’ve been in search of a local BBQ spot where I could get my fix. A co-worker recommended this place and after reading some good reviews, I decided to give it a try. Big B’s barbecue is fairly small with a few tables, a bar seating area along the wall and a walk up counter where you place your order. The staff was friendly and welcoming upon entering. I felt like I was at a family friends’ kitchen. The gal at the register offered some menu suggestions seeing that it was my first time there. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich with a side of Beckett’s beans. The sandwich was good, but the BBQ sauce is what made it! I love that this place is connected to Brian’s beer and billiards next door. I will definitely be back to have some barbecue over some drinks. Overall, I was satisfied. Good food and good customer service!

Eat It All BBQ, LLC Menu with Prices 3342 Deans Bridge Rd #4222, Augusta

This place probably has its moments, but our visit wasn’t one of them. When we were there (around 1:30pm.,) there was only one person working – the owner. This made for extremely slow service. Mr Monroe had to do everything. He manned the pit, took the orders and served them up, and ran the cash register. I was going to have pulled pork, but he gave me a sample of his ribs and changed my mind. The ribs I had weren’t like his sample. (I don’t think it was intentional) They were dry and over cooked. My wife’s pulled pork sandwich was downright boring. On the other hand, the potato salad, baked beans, and barbecue sauce were excellent. Will I be back? Probably not. We were just passing through.

Sloppy Mama’s BBQ Menu with Prices 5731 Lee Hwy, Arlington

I’m a BBQ fan (lived in the pork BBQ capital of America, Memphis, for 6 years) and I LOVE THIS PLACE! First of all just like many places in Memphis you can see the smokers outside in the parking lot where the smell of the meat smoking meets you before you even go inside. This is a great way to get people to start salivating for the barbecue they can order inside. We came for the first time tonight and ordered some brisket and pork and mac and cheese baked beans and cornbread as sides. While I’m not from Texas I do enjoy a good moist and wet brisket and this was among some of the best that I’ve had in the DC area. I would say that it is equivalent for better to Jack’s also in Arlington. The brisket was moist and if you wanted to get a fatty piece you could. The pulled pork was also very good. It was moist and had a delicious smoke to it. They do take the pulled pork and chop it for you before putting it on your tray. I actually prefer pulled pork 2 chopped pork so next time I will ask them not to chop it. For the sides the beans were delicious and the cornbread some of the best that I’ve ever had. Seriously I could go and just eat the cornbread alone. My wife had the mac and cheese and she also enjoyed it. They also have a good selection of barbecue sauces that come in a dispenser that looks like it could be dispensing ice tea. They have the following types of barbecue sauce. Georgia gold, Alabama white, Diablo, North Carolina vinegar, in Kansas City sweet. I have never had the Alabama white before and that was delicious. All the other sauces also Ware delicious and worth trying each one. I’m so glad that this place opened in North Arlington and will definitely be back to sample some additional meats and sides!

Homestyle BBQ – Menu with Prices – 1701 N Fort Harrison Ave, Clearwater

My quest for good Bbq in the Clearwater area has finally ended thanks to Homestyle Barbecue! The hospitality here is outstanding, the food is delicious, and it beats driving all the way to St. Petersburg for a rib dinner. What more can I ask for? I’ve tried numerous Bbq spots in Clearwater in hopes of finding the perfect pulled pork sandwich or tender ribs but none compare to Homestyle Barbecue. On my first visit to Homestyle Bbq the owner went above and beyond when it came to customer service by offering my friend and I samples of the pulled pork, ribs, and baked beans. We both ended up ordering the combo platter since we could not decide on which meat to choose with a side of Mac and cheese. The food was fresh and delicious beyond our expectations. If I could, I would give this review six stars solely based off of how well we were treated after telling the owner it was our first time trying their food!

Ranch House – Menu with Prices – 2571 Cristo’s Rd, Santa Fe

Well, this is my second time here. The first time here we had a not-so-good experience and I wanted to wait to write a review. We had a reservations and sat down right away. We got drinks and food very quickly and our server was very attentive – a product, I think, of my husbands previous review. I got the small plate for lunch, which consists of either pulled pork or brisket, a side, and corn bread. I had mine with calabacitas, and while the presentation was sloppy, they tasted delicious. Buttery and salty, the vegetables tasted fresh. The green Chile cornbread was good. My son had beans and potato salad as his sides, and those both tasted great. My brisket, however, and my husbands and sons ribs, while they were perfectly cooked, still lacked in flavor. They serve everything with a side of their barbecue sauce, and the sauce is delicious. While the sauce really helps, truly good barbecue should stand on its own, not depend on the optional sauce for flavor. But trust me, the meat needs it. I had the creme brûlée for dessert, and THAT was amazing. I don’t know what they did to it, but it’s delicious. I would really like to want to come back, as the atmosphere here is absolutely beautiful and the patio looks like a great spot.

City Barbeque and Catering – Menu with Prices – 2111 W Henderson Rd, Columbus

Service was excellent! I primarily don’t review an establishment by service (alone) as we’re all human and everyone has a bad day. That said, service was on point, which I don’t know how the service could be bad as you walk up to the counter, you read the menu, you order your food, pay for said food, AND get your own drink….pretty simple! All right, the review: Ribs (as someone had described earlier) fall off the bone! Great smokey flavor (order them dry so you can appreciate the smokey flavor) of which I did. They have some new barbecue sauces that they do every month whereas I just stayed true to a spicy barbecue sauce which was good. Green beans excellent! Coleslaw excellent x 2! I’m a vinegar based slaw kind of guy and this was excellent x 2! Now (for me, may not be for you) the downer: Since I am a brisket snob. That also being said, this brisket was a little dry. If you like barbecue sauce you can slather barbecue sauce all over it and it’s fine. I don’t wish to do that as I spend a lot of time in Texas and I like my brisket sliced, fatty, and the M word yes… moist! Other than that this place reps well and I would definitely come back.

Crossroads Bar and Grill Menu with Prices 1255 Barkley Blvd suite 102, Bellingham

I love Barbecue. Not the kind of barbecue that hides behind sauce. I’m talking about smoky, we don’t need no stinkin’ sauce kind of barbecue. Bellingham is pretty short on that kind of barbecue. So I was excited to try Crossroads. I stopped in and ordered the Combo Plate. You can choose between ribs, brisket or pulled pork for meat and you also get two sides. I think the only way to really tell if a place saying they have BBQ is real is to eat the brisket. I needs to be tender, fatty and smokey. If it comes slathered in sauce it isn’t brisket and they don’t know BBQ. So, of course, I ordered the brisket and for the other I went with ribs. For my two sides I got fries and coleslaw. The brisket was better than and I have had in Bellingham. It was tender with just the right amount of fat. It wasn’t fancied up with sauce. It was just salt, pepper and a long smoke. Perfection. The ribs were a bit tough, maybe another hour on the smoker could have done them some good. The flavor though. It was again better than any in Bellingham. I could discern a nice spice rub and there was just a touch of sauce. I didn’t think I liked sauce but this enhanced the ribs so much. It wasn’t overpowering, it was just right. The portions are good. There was enough food for at least two people. I didn’t share. I will be eating this again tomorrow for lunch. The service was nice. I did have a bit of problem with the order but everyone was more than ready to make it right. I would have given the place all the stars but the sides were a real blah. Frozen fries and standard coleslaw. It wasn’t bad it just wasn’t great. I would suggest you try out the barbecue at Crossroads. It’s good.

Southwest Pit BBQ – Menu with Prices – 1601 P St, Lincoln

Rolled through Lincoln on an early Saturday afternoon and wanted to try some BBQ. Southwest Pit is pretty small with only 3 tables and they aren’t licensed to serve tap water, so bottled drinks only. My wife and I ordered large. She did a small rib with mashed potatoes and gravy, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with beans and slaw, and we split 6 bbq wings and then shared everything. My feelings are very mixed. I am not a believer that any meat should be soaked with sauce, only as a glaze while cooking or for dipping on the side. But this was a damn fine sauce, it is very complex and thick and brought back memories of a dark Mexican mole’, not a cheap bbq sauce. I give them a win for creating such a unique flavor concoction that I didn’t mind it covering the ribs and wings this time. Another stand out was the beans. There was tons of sliced hot sausages in it and it could have made a fulfilling meal in itself – 5 stars. The mashed potatoes had a wonderful thick hearty gravy that made them a must order also. The misses included my pulled pork sandwich. A very large portion but blended with so much sauce, it made eating as a sandwich impossible and reminded me of the tubs of pre-package bbq meat at the store. Nice owners and a unique product but lighten up on the sauce a little. I would go back and order differently with my new knowledge.

Benji’s Bar-B-Que Shack – Menu with Prices – 3245 S State St, Salt Lake City

We drove past this place a few weeks ago, & I was stoked to see a local BBQ spot – not many of those around here. & open 24/7? Sweet! We’re often around this part of town for band practice, which means we don’t get home until 10:00pm…doesn’t leave many options for dinner. So we planned to try this, & we were so stoked to have some awesome late-ish night bbq. I was so looking forward to it. The layout was confusing – there’s the butcher shop / bbq shop on one side, & the newly opened soul food restaurant on the other, but the signage wasn’t good so we didn’t know which side to go to. The worker on the bbq side was really friendly, and explained things pretty well. Didn’t necessarily listen all that well, & I think we ended up with the wrong amount of meat. You buy by the pound here, & it is 50% more expensive if you pay with a credit card – wtaf? I wish I’d known, because we would have found an atm first. Anyway, not much left around 9 at night, which was fine. There was pulled pork & brisket & I’m not sure what else – but we both wanted pork anyway. Available sides were mac & cheese [we took the last serving], beans, and cole slaw – we ordered one of each. Sides, we found out later, were $4/each – there’s also a pic of the container here on yelp from an earlier review – they are now half the size. There was also cornbread, which we bought two of. There’s a pic here on yelp of round cornbread, this was not that – this was like a mini loaf, just an fyi. So the first person helping us, the super helpful one, passes us off to a second person who appeared, & the second person seemed to have no idea what they were doing. I did have some cash on me, so I wanted to know how much it’d be if I paid for the meat in cash [that’s what the first person advised me to do]…but the second worker just got confused and looked around frantically like they didn’t know what to do. Sigh. Our barbecue for two came out to $41 – that’s including a 20% tip, which was the lowest option on the screen. I’m all for tipping well, but #1 this is counter service like Chipotle, not full service, and #2 not even a 15% option? Okayyy. We grab red solo cups for the drinks, because the first worker told us all about the free drinks, but not about any other drinks, so free drinks it is. There were big coolers with water, some color of ‘drank’, & fruit punch [I think – the writing was worn off]. All room temp, meh. There were a few tables, and a few of them dirty. While we were eating, I think three parties total [incl us] were there. The tables were big, like twice as long as standard size table, but the chairs were only on one side and there weren’t any surplus, so our giant double table had only two chairs. We took it as quirky, I guess. The chairs were crates, and rickety/slippery on the floor – which made me nervous because my spouse is on crutches rn, but he was fine. Anyway, so into the barbecue. Expensive [and the first worker had warned us that the new soul food restaurant is expensive, so I don’t even wanna know], but the place smelled so good that we were just so stoked. We didn’t know which pork sandwich belonged to who. I hadn’t actually ordered a sandwich, just 6oz of meat [which normally gives me a little something for now, & a little something to take home], but my husband had gotten a 9oz sandwich. Still no idea which was which. They looked the same, felt the same weight, weren’t labeled or anything. We just kinda picked one & went with it. The pork was dry AF. I can’t sugarcoat this. It was SO dry & so bad. There wasn’t much flavor left, because it was like a jerky. Just SUPER DRIED OUT. Sigh. We doused it in sauce – there were two options available, pretty decent [different looking than the pics posted here – there have ob

Driftwood Kitchen + Bar – Menu with Prices – 8460 Honeycutt Rd #112, Raleigh

I dined at Driftwood Southern Kitchen with a friend after being curious for a long time. Reviews looked good. Pictures looked good. What could possibly go wrong? We went for dinner during a reasonably busy weeknight. The restaurant had a lot of tables sat, but the server to table ratio wasn’t unreasonably high. Service shouldn’t suffer too much, but it did. Our server didn’t give us the courtesy of an introduction or a drink order when she first approached our table. She poured waters and then walked away. When she returned, my friend asked for recommendations. Our lovely server gave the ever-so-helpful “oh everything is so good here.” The point of the question is to receive a handful of suggestions. I went with the Smoker Platter – ribs, brisket, pulled pork, smoked sausage, and mac & cheese. I reasoned that all of the barbecue meats should be easy enough to execute. I won’t necessarily love everything, but it’s a good mix where I wouldn’t hate anything. Sadly, I was very wrong. The meal wasn’t without its positives. The smoked sausage featured a nice sauce that tasted very good. The ribs were truly incredible. If all of the rest of the meal were merely average, then I would’ve enjoyed my experience. Sadly, the pulled pork was disgusting. While the pork on top was decent, everything below was disgusting mush. I have no idea how long the pork was kept in the warming cabinet, but the answer is far too long. I’m truly shocked that the cook who plated the meal had such little respect that they would serve me mushy pork. The mac and cheese also sucked. I expected high quality oven-baked mac and cheese with real cheese, not simply noodles with cream sauce. So much of my experience at Driftwood Southern Kitchen was shockingly bad.

B L Smokers – Menu with Prices – 2196 Pio Nono Ave, Macon

Let me start by saying I’m not a big fan of barbecue. Last weekend, however, my wife and I had a craving for bbq sandwiches and after reading the other reviews on Yelp, we decided to try BL Smokers. There is a sign on the wall saying “This is not fast food. Please be patient” or something to that effect, but we were pleasantly surprised by how quickly our food came out. We walked in and walked out literally five minutes later with our food. We opted for the pulled pork sandwiches and brunswick stew. I believe the large pulled pork sandwich was only $3.75, which isn’t bad. I should point out though that the large sandwich isn’t really large. It’s pretty normal. I’ve included photos to that end. BL Smokers gets four stars from me for two reasons: 1.) The brunswick stew is phenomenal. That saved BL Smokers from three stars. I’m not a big fan of brunswick stew, but theirs is practically an art form. 2.) The sauce on the bbq sandwiches was so scant it was almost unnoticeable. Thank goodness we got the brunswick stew. We poured that on the sandwiches and it improved them significantly. Otherwise, they would have been disappointing without sauce. And really, there was practically NO sauce. The meat is tender and perfectly cooked. If you pick up sandwiches here, however, either ask for extra sauce on the side (I wouldn’t trust them to add enough to the sandwich) or be prepared at home with your favorite sauce to top them off. Otherwise, they’re fabulous (Can a straight man use the word “fabulous?” Oh well, I’m doing it. It’s fitting.) Enjoy!

Big T’s Mill St BBQ Company – Menu with Prices – 242 Mill St, Worcester

We went to Big T’s Mill Street Barbecue for dinner. Bottom line, it was OK. My wife got a pulled chicken slider with roasted veg, and she enjoyed it quite a bit. I wanted to try a little of everything so I ordered their “BBQ Sundae” with brisket, pulled pork and a couple of St. Louis ribs added in. It came with Mac n cheese under the pulled pork and beans and cornbread under the brisket and a side of rice. My lasting impression was that other than the ribs the food was cooked well but no distinct flavor. No hint of smoke. No spice or bark. The mac was cheesy, tasty, and not over cooked. The sauce which was mixed in with the pulled pork made it moist but didn’t add much dimension. The sauce over the brisket was thick and sweet but one-dimensional. The ribs though disappointed, they were cooked well with a good bite, not fall off the bone, but the thing that disappointed was that they clearly reheated them over the grill and while doing so burned them, not charted – burnt – giving them an aftertaste of ashtray. The restaurant itself is gorgeous – really nicely done and a pretty solid bar selection. All in all, out of 5. Good, not to die for, and let down on the ribs but I’d give them another shot hoping the ribs are usually better.

URBAN Brew and BBQ – Menu with Prices – 2601 Central Ave, St. Petersburg

As soon as we walked in, we were sat down and given water within less than 5 minutes. Absolutely wonderful and spacious outdoor patio with alfresco bar and TVs for your football games. Loved that. Smelled delicious and found out that after checking in on Yelp you get a free sample of bourbon or rye. This is going to be awesome, we thought. Bourbon sample I got was a young buck, but a nice touch and I REALLY like bourbon so I’m partial. It was a good size though and I was surprised, wonderful! So, so disappointed with the food after we had such high hopes for this place. Tables were a bit sticky. When we received our “award-winning” mac and cheese we didn’t think it was that special. Cheese was a bit bland, to be honest. The bits of sauce & pork, average. The few bits of bacon were the highlight. So for $9 for Baton Rouge style… Not worth it for us. The biggest disappointment was the $19 brisket sandwich though. Ok brisket (didn’t feel very smoked as many other places) and the “spicy Carolina-style” barbecue sauce was more akin to tomato puree than actual barbecue sauce we’re used to. It was the oddest consistency we’ve ever had barbecue sauce in. And the flavor.. I don’t know. It’s hard to describe. It just wasn’t great. The garlic mashed potatoes, however, were fantastic! Hot, unlike the rest of our lukewarm and in some parts cold sandwich and mac and cheese. Perhaps the cooks timed our order wrong and this is why? Service was so friendly and caring, it’s so disappointing that our cold expensive meal was mostly subpar. We won’t be back, unfortunately.
