I have celiac disease and while out and about around lunchtime I found a gluten free restaurant website who listed Didi’s Downtown in Frisco as having gluten free choices and great reviews. From the moment we were seated our friendly server Kaya took our drink orders and asked if we needed help with the menu. The atmosphere was low key and relaxed. We saw a nice bar and patio area and Kaya told they have live music weekly and BINGO with excellent prizes! Everything at Didi’s is house made from scratch and the menu had a nice selection of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees such as NY Strip, chicken, pasta, fish and a list of house blended hamburgers made with short ribs and chuck. The burgers were all available with a gluten free bun. I asked if there were any other GF choices besides burgers and salads and Kaya went to ask the chef/owner Scott to come speak with us. He was very helpful and assured us that he understands and is very careful in dealing with food allergies and celiac. Scott explained that the hamburger buns were sourced locally from Local Oven in a Farmers Branch and were so good you would never know they are gluten free! These buns did not disappoint! So light and airy, not heavy like you find in the freezer section at the grocery store. I chose a Philly Cheesesteak on a GF hamburger bun and subbed mushrooms for green peppers. It came with a horseradish sour cream sauce with just enough of a kick so as not to overwhelm the dish. The cheesesteak was also made with shaved short rib and was super tasty, tender and well seasoned. The mushrooms and onions were perfectly caramelized with melted provolone to top it off. The sandwich was huge and I was only able to eat half so I brought the rest home! Lucky me! My husband had the mushroom Swiss burger with hand cut fries and he said it was also super tender and juicy and the fries were just right! Hubby had a beer and although I did not order a cocktail this time I did look over the drink menu and found they have a nice selection of beer, wine, hand crafted cocktails and bubbly too! They also have a weekend brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday and a great menu selection for kiddos too! Kaya was very super friendly and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We will for sure ask for her next time we are there. Chef Scott came over to visit with us again before we left to make sure we enjoyed our meals. Hubby and I were both very impressed with our meal choices and excellent service and were very happy to tell him so. It’s so nice to visit a family owned establishment where you feel so warmly welcomed and experienced such great service. We can’t wait to go back again!

Mama Resch’s – A Gluten Free Bakery – Menu with Prices – 12635 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park

Outstanding! What else can I say. We have tried just about everything Mama Resch’s bakes and it is all wonderful and allergy free. We were amazed at the listing of allergens their baked goods are free from. (No gluten, no wheat, no corn, no soy, no casein, no dairy, no preservatives, no tree nuts, no peanuts, no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, all natural, vegan options available, custom orders available.) We love it so much we ordered some items for a gluten free basket for my mom. Their bread is wonderful. We have tried the millet, herb and banana bread and hamburger buns. All are wonderful! We come home and put half of each loaf in the freezer so we can have it longer than the 3 days they recommend eating it in. (They recommend toasting the bread to thaw it, also toasting helps the bread stay in 1 piece better either fresh or frozen). We have also enjoyed their muffins, cookies and cupcakes. The cupcakes made a wonderful surprise for our gluten free, dairy free daughter!I love that their hours are more extensive than other gluten free bakeries, see their website for the latest hours, but yes currently they are open on Saturday! We make the extra drive often due to being able to come during their hours of operations. They are slightly hard to find, but it is worth it to investigate where it is. We turn East on 127th street, then the first left (North) into the parking lot. Drive to the front of the strip mall and look for The House of Denmark; Mama Resch’s is right next door on the South side.DONâ??T forget to have them slice the bread for you before you leave.

Roma Bakery – Menu with Prices – 3351 N Chouteau Trafficway, Kansas City

I’ve driven by Roma hundreds of time, but never stopped. I don’t live near by, and only go if I’m in the area. I visited it for my first time today. It’s very small, but smells wonderful. They had all their bread discounted, and the staff knew everything on the shelves. The unique selection was difficult to decide which to buy. There was one of about everything Roma has. I selected black hamburger buns(they had a customer who wanted black buns for Halloween, so they added black food coloring to the buns.) And their famous Italian bread. The buns were only .99. I mean, we needed buns, and they are quite possibly the coolest buns I’ve ever seen. The cost is a fraction what you pay at the grocery store. They were making raisin bread, and I could smell it. If I lived int he area, I’d shop here all the time. They don’t take a card, they only take cash or check, but this is one place I’ll stop by if I’m in the area.

Natsu Sushi Bar & Ocean Grill Menu with Prices 3070 Windward Plaza X1, Alpharetta

Earlier this week my daughter asked me to join her for lunch at Natsu Sushi Bar and Ocean Grill. My wife and I had been looking for a good sushi restaurant since we moved to Alpharetta in 2012. We had dined at other places and found that the ones that were really good were also really expensive with small portions, and the ones that were less expensive tended to be fairly pedestrian. The lunch was nice, so I decided to take my wife to Natsu for dinner. I had called ahead to make reservations and explained that my wife was gluten intolerant. Although the reviews of Natsu were almost uniformly excellent, I could not find a single one that mentioned gluten-free options, so I wanted to make sure that she would have a great meal. I was assured that the sushi chefs would work with us and that they had tamari available. When we arrived, we were immediately taken to our reserved table, and the tamari was already there. We appreciated such attention to detail by the wait staff. Our server, Diana, was attentive and friendly. She helped us understand the extensive menu and consulted with the chef to make sure that we would be well taken care of! My wife ordered the mussels and I ordered the calamari for appetizers – both were excellent but I have to say her mussels were the best! We ordered the ‘Love Boat’ for two. It was AMAZING with the freshest sashimi and nigiri we have had in ages! The portions were very generous, so much so that it was really too much food with the appetizers. We had the rainbow roll (gluten-free) and lobster tempura roll (not gluten-free) for our boat choices, both were excellent and both larger than any specialty rolls we have had since moving to Alpharetta. The restaurant is quaint and generally quiet, the decor is understated but very nice, the wait staff is professional and helpful, and while the prices are fairly high, the quality and generous portions make them more than reasonable. In addition, the staff’s attention to detail and professionalism mark this as a first-class restaurant with all the ingredients for a fabulous evening! I can’t wait to go back and try some more of the incredible choices! Highly recommended, 5-stars!!!

You Eat I Bake – Menu with Prices – 2834-A Howard Ave, Myrtle Beach

I was having a friend with gluten intolerance visiting for a few days. I was looking for products that would be fresh baked, not the mass produced products that are becoming readily available. I must tell you that I am thrilled with the products I purchased. The bread was so enjoyable. I also ordered cinnamon buns and German chocolate cake. Nicole the owner, was very accommodating. The bakery is dairy free, nut free and gluten free. Nicole was willing to make me a naked cake, so we could frost the cake with the traditional german chocolate frosting. The cake was amazing. I will be back, as I have a DIL that is vegan. I would highly recommend this bakery to anyone that is gluten free. You will not be disappointed.

Satsuma Café – Menu with Prices – 1320 Magazine St Suite 104, New Orleans

I’ve been eating at Satsuma for years. They have fresh juices that are delicious, and I love their menu and the fact that they offer gluten-free bread options. For low carb-ers, it’s a little bit more limited. There are omelets and eggs and meat choices so you can pick some things al a cart and put together a plate. The magazine location has a chef creating amazing daily special bowls. Sometimes they are low carb. I had one the chef called “is it fall yet” and it blew me away! The bowls don’t have a much wiggle room though… there was one with rice that I couldn’t alter.. It would be amazing if there was a cauliflower rice option or if I could just double up on the veggies/salad component to avoid the carbs in the daily special bowls. They also have amazing pancakes, but now that I’m gluten-free I have to pass on them… I hope they consider adding a gluten-free pancake option to the menu. That being said I really love eating here. The magazine location has a cute little outdoor seating area with mini picnic tables for the kids to eat and play, and lots of tables with umbrellas for the adults.

Bimbo Bakeries USA – Menu with Prices – 5050 E Evans Ave, Denver

I love these little bakery-adjacent outlet stores. This one will give you a free “loaf of bread” with your first purchase. You will also get a free “loaf of bread” with every $10 spent. In case you’re not getting enough free bread, you will also be given a punch card, which entitles you to TWO free loaves of bread after you spend $40 (“punches” are in 8 – $1, 10 – $2, and 4 – $3 increments so you’re basically guaranteed to get the full value of each purchase recorded on the card). “Loaf of bread” is anything off a rack by the door that, on my visit, had bread, buns (hamburger and hot dog), and english muffins. There’s a huge variety of products available. 3 for $5 Thomas bagels. $2 loaves of good, dense, whole grain & seed bread. $1.50 potato buns. Plus a huge variety of desserts and snack cakes and more breads and buns and flats and granolas and seeds… as well as some non-bakery items like jellies, drinks, takis, condiments, and jerky.

OfKors Donuts – Menu with Prices – 4862 S Tamiami Trail, Sarasota

We were vacationing in the area and always look for a good donut shop when we’re on vacay. OfKors hit the spot! They had a nice selection of donuts and we tried quite a few different flavors, including their gluten free cake donuts and a cronut. Everything we had was very tasty. We got there around 8am and to our surprise, they weren’t busy. They lady helping us was super nice and patient with us as we made our selections. They had quite a few different choices, probably around 15 different yeast donuts – including your classic glaze and iced. The donuts were a little pricey but hey…it’s vacation. We spent a little over $30 for 15 donuts.

Starting From Scratch Café – Menu with Prices – 400 Aviation Blvd #300, Santa Rosa

I work in the business park and use this cafe for catering frequently (so nice that they deliver for meetings). I’ve also been known to frequent it on a midday walk around the business park. Their iced coffee is an excellent and refreshing midday pick-me-up, and they have numerous gluten free and vegan options, which are much appreciated–and I’m not talking freezer burned Udi’s here–they make their gluten free bread FROM SCRATCH, and their (also homemade) gluten free AND vegan veggie burgers are fantastic, as is the mushroom sandwich (hold the cheese, caramelize the onions). The prices are reflective of the fact that the goods are both made in-house and largely sourced from local producers and farmers. So nice to have a delicious and healthful option so close to my office (and they have NEVER been annoyed with me asking for modifications to accommodate my gluten and dairy allergies and flexitarianism). Plus when you go here, you are supporting a locally-owned business, and 9.9/10 times you’ll probably have one of the owners take your order. Biggest complaint is that their gf baked goods (minus the killer bread, which I’ve never experienced being sold out) are usually sold out by lunchtime, but goes without saying. 10/10 would recommend.

Simply Sweets – Menu with Prices – 607 Washington St, Vancouver

This was our first time ordering a custom cake here for my sons’ birthday party. First, it’s a cute little place. I did have a short deadline (about 5 days) for a custom 2 tier cake, but the lady I spoke with on the phone said it wouldn’t be a problem. When I went in to actually order and go over everything with a designer, I was a bit surprised they didn’t even offer to let me taste a few different flavors. But I had heard from several people their cakes are very good, so I wasn’t concerned. Since it was short notice, they said I could only choose from the 6 flavors they had available in the display case that week. Ok, no problem- I chose 2. Again, they didn’t offer to let me taste anything. My mistake… I’m gluten free, but I should have asked anyway. The day of the party, we picked up the cake. It was fabulous! Absolutely beautiful design and exactly how we’d described. Then we tasted it… and yuck ? The top tier, which was gluten free, was completely dry. Good flavor, but DRY. Like crumbling. And yes, I know it’s gluten free and all, but I have ordered numerous custom gluten free cakes from various bakeries in Portland before. This was terrible. Ok, fine- let’s try the regular tier on the bottom. Sadly, same thing… so dry all of the icing was coming off in whole chunks. I’m sorely disappointed that we wasted hundreds of dollars on a dry cake, but it is what it is. All of this to say- it was a gorgeous, albeit super stale tasting, old cake.

Sweet Marie Waffles – Menu with Prices – 1705 Donna Rd, West Palm Beach

Stumbled upon this looking for some gluten free food on our way to the Manatee Lagoon. This little place is nestled amongst auto shops and other businesses with little parking and one little table out front but- worth going out of the way for. She makes the gluten free waffles on their own separate maker and it was super yummy! What a lovely pit stop. My dad got a bacon and egg waffle with all the gluten and he loved it. Also- get the lemonade- it’s ridiculously good.

CHOPCHOP Fresh Salads – Menu with Prices – 6125 University Dr NW Suite B12, Huntsville

The salads are delicious (gluten-free falafel is my favorite!) Thereâ??s some difficulty navigating the menu with food allergies. I had one great experience and one that left me less-than-confident about the staffâ??s awareness of food allergies. The manager followed up to tell me the -only- gluten-containing item on the menu is pita chips/strips. Evidently even the soy sauce on the tofu is gluten free (a rare, thoughtful touch). Iâ??ve edited my one-star review to reflect the follow-up; now Iâ??m just wishing for ingredient labels in the store. The falafel will probably draw me back in.
