WOW, I’m impressed! Not a flashy set up, but plenty of clean tables in an order, pay, we bring it to your table BBQ place. The bbq is fabulous! We both ordered the SUPERSTITION COMBO, consisting of probably more than the stated “1/4 lb Brisket, 1/4 lb Pulled Pork, 1/3 Rack Ribs”! What can I say, the best of the best tasting BBQ. I ordered my two sides, fried potato wedges ( a very large potato cut lengthwise in half, and the half cut in half, and the quarter cut in half) 8 wonderful crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and an awful lot to consume, and chili lime roasted corn which I could have eaten a half dozen of. A generous sized ear of corn with fabulous seasoning on it and perfectly cooked. My wife had the same potatoes and the disappointing green chili and bacon mac n cheese. She claimed it was without flavor and left most of it over. This is the loan negative I could find at this restaurant. Added to all this food they also give you a choice of Corn or Flour Tortillas. We both had unsweetened iced tea, tasted fresh and was good. We took home a bounty of meat to enjoy the next day! We will definitely return, yum. I feel compelled to mention the really low music in the background, wonderfully soft and unobtrusive.

Whiskey & Oyster Menu with Prices 301 John Carlyle St, Alexandria

We decided to check out whiskey and oyster after Yelp sent us a “hot and new” alert. There’s nothing better to do on a rainy Saturday night but go stalk new restaurants. The place has been open for only a month and a half and I’d say it has potential. Walking in I noticed that the place has beautiful decor. Nautical colors to give it a bright airy feel but dimmed lighting to give it a private dining feel. I could dig it. We ordered the mussels, arctic char, ribeye with basil mashed potatoes instead of cauliflower mash and sugar grilled asparagus. Drinks were Clerical Error and Old Fashioned. Mussels: never had mussels cooked in a broth with corn but they were good. The broth added flavor but not too much to cancel out the mussels. The corn added pops of sweetness. Arctic Char: my plate confused me. The fish itself was delicious. I’d compare it to a smoky flavored salmon as far as taste and texture goes, however, the side its paired with I wasn’t a fan. It looked like a potato and pea soup underneath the fish, think the waiter said a tarragon risotto but it wasn’t risotto. Anyway, it was super tangy. I couldn’t figure out if I liked it or disliked it. It didn’t ruin my meal because I still ate the fish but I pretty much left it there. Asparagus: delicious. I never thought to sweeten the asparagus but I might need to try it at home. No clue what they used as sweetener but I’ll figure it out. Ribeye: also delicious. Cooked perfectly. I also liked the basil mashed potatoes but the Mister was confused by those as well. I guess if you’re not used to basil you might want to stick with the menu suggested side. Clerical Error: we thought the drink was too sour and tangy and returned it for an old fashioned. Old Fashioned: delicious. Made perfectly. Strong but not disgusting. So all in all, I enjoyed the dinner. Only issue really was the air conditioning. We melted in the restaurant. I haven’t sweat that much in a while. So the docked star is for me melting at dinner and the weird tangy potato soup with my fish.

Ike’s Woodfire Grill – Menu with Prices – 4414 82nd St Suite #218, Lubbock

I was a little skeptical when it took 10 minutes for my wife and I to get water and I was pretty upset when it took 25 minutes to get my food but once the food arrived I was blown away. I had the roasted chicken with mash potatoes and steamed vegetables my wife had the chicken breast with twice baked potato and the steamed vegetables. My chicken was cooked to perfection. Crispy skin, moist and the perfect amount of smoke on the chicken. The mash potatoes were buttery, and the vegetables were cooked perfect with plenty of seasoning and crunchiness. My wife’s chicken breast was also cooked perfect and it tasted like it had been soaking in a brine. The potatoes and vegetables were also perfect. Rachel, our waitress was very apologetic about the wait but it was worth every minutes once we got our food. I know that it is going to take some time to get the service up to speed with the food but once they do this is going to be the place in Lubbock to go have a drink and eat some fantastic food. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

Vernon’s Smokehouse – Menu with Prices – 1126 Craft Rd, Memphis

I honestly wasn’t expecting this to be as good as it was. We ordered the BBQ sampler. It comes with two sides and a roll or cornbread. We chose the mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and cornbread. We added an extra piece of corn and an extra piece of cornbread. I believe the total came close to $35-$40 once we added a bottled water in. The meats were absolutely delicious! My favorite was the pork and least favorite was the chicken. Other than the tasty cornbread, the sides were disappointing. The corn is cooked inside of the pig, the server said, so I was expecting it to have an amazing flavor. It was very bland to me. The cornbread was more like a dessert and it was pretty tasty. That sampler comes with a ton of food. We could’ve fed at least one or two more people with that meal. A lot went to waste unfortunately because it’s just a very large serving. We didn’t try the other restaurants at Graceland but we can definitely recommend this place!

Istanbul Cuisine Cafe Menu with Prices 405 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue

I’ve walked by this place a hundred times and never gave it a second glance – likely because it’s a small little window of a shop situated right outside the Macy’s in Bellevue Square that’s easy to overlook. That’s too bad because I was missing out! Never having tried Turkish food before, I opted for the familiar – a Potato Gozleme, which is smashed potatoes rolled up in a crepe-like dough. The potatoes weren’t mashed and blended; there was still some texture to them, although they were cooked to softness (not crispy) and more smashed (not cubed). They were seasoned very well and salted just enough, and they came with something like a Tzatziki or ranch-style sauce for dipping that added a refreshing burst of dill and creaminess. My friend had the Chicken Kir Pidesi and it was equally tasty, with an added blend of spices that punched up the flavor. It also came with the same sauce. I think my ideal lunch would be a half Chicken Kir Pidesi and a half Potato Gozleme because I’m not sure I could decide a favorite between the two. It’s also worth mentioning that for the little operation that it is, the service was top-notch. We asked about the differences between Kir Pidesi and Gozleme and they were happy to explain and patient while we made our decisions. There are a handful of tables in front of the place, and the person who took our orders even brought our food out to us. Not sure if that always happens – they weren’t quite slammed with a lunch rush yet – nevertheless, it was a nice touch. I’ll definitely be back, and will probably try a dessert, too, because they looked so good!

Fuel Health Food II – Menu with Prices – 7004 3rd Ave, Brooklyn

Do you know that saying “I’m sorry for what I said when I was hungry.”? Well, I’m not sorry! It’s cold out, it’s late and I’m hungry. I stop to get soup, chicken chilly on the menu sounded great! Till i took it home and saw what I got! “Cooks” at Fuel have great sense of humor for creating this pathetic recipe, but I’m not laughing, because I paid for it! First of all they put grilled chicken in chili! Last time I checked chili required ground meat. Then they gracefully added raw onions, because who has time to caramelize them?! And like it wasn’t “funny” enough, they added potatoes! POTATOES! Isn’t it easier just to say “I’m sorry, but we don’t have chili tonight”? I’m too tired to vent more, I’m too tired to go back to return it and I’m tired to tell people that run restaurants how to cook! If you can’t follow simple soup recipes, how can you follow all the sanitation laws?! How?!

Thai Express – Menu with Prices – 7001 Mumford Rd, Halifax

Decided to try Thai Express for lunch, I arrived about 2 PM. As I looked over the menu options, after a minute or two I decided I wasn’t too interested in a combo with white rice. On the other hand, I would have enjoyed some egg noodles. At the last minute before I ordered, I glanced over the cashier’s head on the wall to the left and spotted a sign for Chili Chili Bangkok, which comes with egg noodles. Aha, I decided to take a chance and order something new. Turned out that it is their new Special. The cashier said I was the first person to order it! She answered all my questions and I placed my order. The stir fry ingredients included broccoli, red pepper, baby corn, scrambled egg and loads of flat egg noodles, served in a tasty sauce. I selected tofu for my dish and it came to $7.08, including a free 16 ounce beverage of my choice (lemonade) which was an added bonus. The food was prepared and served up to me piping hot, but not spicy as in ‘your mouth is on fire’ hot. I then dressed it up with a wedge of lime, some squirts of fish sauce and hoisin sauce and a handful of chopped peanuts and it was good to go. It came in a large transparent plastic bowl, just like the one they serve their soup in. You get a ton of food, enough for two I thought! I was more than satisfied with this tasty, hot, plentiful meal. In fact, I had an Asian meal at a sit down restaurant earlier this month which wasn’t half as flavourful, nor half as large, nor as hot, and it cost twice as much. So remember the name Chili Chili Bangkok the next time you want a great meal at Thai Express! Learn more at http://www.thaiexpress.ca/

Gamja Tang House – Menu with Prices – 9567 Garden Grove Blvd, Garden Grove

First time, picked this place for my birthday dinner because I love gamjatang (sorry if I butchered that spelling)…but pork stew with potatoes is delicious. Came with the wife, sis in law and niece about 6pm. Parking is in the back and behind the building next to them. The older lady was working and yes, initially she was a little cold but she was much friendlier as the night went on. I ordered the individual gamjatang, the niece got the eel and the two ladies split the clam soup with noodles. The wife and sis in law loved the clam soup and it was a huge bowl. Plenty for four people to each have a bowl. The eel came on a bed of onions and was cooked well. It wasn’t fishy at all. The gamjatang was very good. I don’t care for sawtooth herb so I picked that all off and let the wife chow down because she loves it. Plenty of pork neck and it was cooked well. I would have liked one more piece of potato (they cut it in big chunks) but it was plenty for me. Just did a bigger pork to potato ratio on my bites…lol. I will be back soon…super good food and huge portions!

Port of Call Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1425 E 27th St, Tacoma

We stayed at La Quinta and did not feel like going out for dinner so we thought we would try the hotel restaurant., We were debating between just ordering room service or having a sit-down meal in the restaurant. We opted for the restaurant and had a very nice experience. We went on a Friday evening, around 7pm, and the restaurant was not very busy – only about 4 other tables occupied. The decor was nice and comfortable. My husband ordered bacon wrapped filet mignon and prawns and I ordered the bacon wrapped filet mignon – both with the garlic mashed potatoes. Our dinner came with steamed veggies that were very tasty. The steaks were wonderful – cooked just the way we ordered and good quality. My only complaint (if you could call it that) was that I wish they had used more of a seasoning on the steak when they cooked it. The garlic mashed potatoes were tasty. Our server was fabulous! Our meal was delivered in a timely fashion. All of the staff was very helpful and courteous. Next time we stay in the Tacoma area, we will definitely remember this restaurant.

Haiku Tokyo – Menu with Prices – 2224 E Williams Field Rd Suite 108, Gilbert

So we ended up here by default because we couldn’t go to the intended restaurant of choice. I admit I had my qualms about this place when I first stepped in. I tend to be skeptical about Asian food restaurants in the malls because they often turn out to be generic and disappointing. Well this place I have to say…I was PLEASANTLY surprised. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen with beef as the protein and Minus the corn and chilis. The broth was rich and just enough saltiness from the pork and chicken broth. The soup had a nice creamy buttery after taste to give it an umami flavor. The beef was nice and tender and went well with the soup. My only critique is that the broth still has chili oil added to it making it slightly spicy. I actually thought it was a perfect hint of spiciness to go with the soup, but I was actually getting it to share with my kid so I didn’t expect it to be spicy at all. Also, if you have been to other ramen places you know the egg is usually seasoned. This egg was not seasoned. For me I didn’t mind at all because the egg was cooked perfectly and enjoyed it with the broth. Overall I was satisfied. Side note: they do military discounts! Final verdict: Would I go back? YES Would I recommend it? YES

The Potato Factory Menu with Prices 4631 S Western St, Amarillo

But Iâ??m sorry Iâ??m going to have to give them a very bad review nine times out of 10 they are out of potatoes before closing their hours of operation are not what I would call convenient they close to early and they run out of food a lot potatoes that is I made three attempts to order a potato from the potato factory twice by phone One time they said it was too close to closing and I cannot take my order second time they were out of potatoes and the third time I called and tried to place an order and was told they cannot take any takeout orders because they are running low on potatoes that I drove to the business and was served it was good customer service the potatoes awesome perfect But they need to work on possibly changing their hours to be open longer and to bake potatoes so they do not run out I know itâ??s inevitable that sometimes they just run out Of potatoes but three times in a row is really ridiculous and needs to be brought to the managers attention

Dallis Steakhouse Express – Menu with Prices – 3320 Glendale Ave, Toledo

This was very bad. I ordered the sirloin cooked medium with mushrooms and onion, baked potato with bacon and cheese, and asparagus. The steak was just about half an inch thick, and half of it was well done, the other half was medium. Low quality meat. There were no grill marks or anything so i assume it was microwaved or thrown straight in the oven. They forgot my mushrooms and onion, and when i went back to get them, they started to retrieve them from already made bins of mushroom and onion. The asparagus had no sort of sign of it being cooked either, besides it being warm, even though the restaurant said they sauté the asparagus. And the baked potato was precooked from hours before i received it, and they didnt even have real bacon bits! The staff was very nice however.

Tupelo Honey – Menu with Prices – 6725 Winning Dr, Frisco

I really had high hopes about this place after my wife tried out the Nashville location. It’s in a nice little area and the restaurant was nice and clean, it just didn’t live up to expectations. I ordered the Boozy Rooster for my cocktail and it was a pretty good old fashion. For appetizers we got the Mac & Cheese Bites and the Asheville Hot Chicken Dip. The Mac & Cheese Bites were ok, nothing special but that was my wife’s pick anyway. My pick, the Hot Chicken Dip kinda fell flat. I’ll agree that it had chicken, and the chicken was good, but it was neither close to hot or had any significant amount of sauce or cheese to actually make it a dip. The pieces of chicken were really large with a touch of sauce on the top, not quite a dip. The homemade potato chips that came with it tasted great, but they were so thin and the dip not actually being dip made it impossible to scoop anything with the chips. The flavor was just ok in that it was mainly just pieces of chicken. For my main entree I ordered from the Supper Plate section with the Low Country Sustainable Catfish with Parmesan Potato Cracklins and Basil and Butter Green Beans. The catfish appeared to be cooked good, not too dried out and flavorful with the blackened seasoning. The green beans were good but could use more seasoning and the potatoes were just ok, I would go a different route next time, they seemed a little under cooked and under seasoned. I had a Tupelo Honey Margarita that was a decent margarita but nothing special, really heavy on the chili salt which kinda over powered the whole drink. Our service was decent, nothing great, nothing extremely bad. Our waiter had a trainee so I expected a little bit better service since he was showing the new girl the way to do things. Our entrees took a long time to come out, maybe 20-30 after appetizers were picked up, long enough that a manager/team lead checked on us a few times and comped one of our appetizers. All in all I’d give it a 3. It might have been a little higher but due to the stomach pains and rumblings throughout the night that unfortunately have to be attributed to the only thing I ate being Tupelo Honey, that’s as high as i can rate it on this visit. Might try it again in the future but probably not anytime soon.
