I finally broke down and wrote this out because it’s been brewing for a very long time. Pocorello’s…I like this place a lot but I always feel, when I’m there, that I’ve done something wrong. Like ordered something wrong, should have called ahead, I don’t know. Every time I go here, the lady behind the counter (apparently one of the owners) is so snarky at me. The food is top notch and I keep going back but they’ve never been nice to me once. It’s cash only and that’s fine but don’t go in here and ask if they take cards. I know better, but watching her berate people who ask is a regular thing. Brace yourself on your first visit. It’s just offensive and I don’t understand why this lady is so mean. They don’t accommodate many special requests. Calling ahead improves the situation. She doesn’t seem to care for takeout people who walk in and wait. They have a tiny dining area and a little grocery section. Again, I love this place, but the owner needs to be a little less entitled in her demeanor toward paying customers. This should not be, as another reviewer stated, “part of the experience.” She is there every day, all day, and there is no avoiding her. Oh, and probably the best muffuletta and roast beef in town.

Tokyo House – Menu with Prices – 1957 N Peace Haven Rd, Winston-Salem

To the cashier girl!! Literally just left here, you have the worst attitude and are super rude, not friendly and clearly not happy. I ordered over $45 in takeout, the girl running the register looked like she hated her life the moment she saw customers walk in. I’ve worked in the restaurant business before, you learn to leave your problems at the door. Trying to be nice I left her a tip when paying. I go to sit and wait on my to go order, she brings the food out, I walk over to grab some white sauce which is beside the drink machine in squeeze bottles. I see there’s no lids so I walk up to ask for some and she says I need to open up my bag and give her back the sauces she already put in there first. I said oh I didn’t realize, I don’t want to waste the sauce I already poured, can I not just get a lid for it? she said no because it cost extra. The bag was tied tight so I had to rip open my bag and hand her the sauce back because I didn’t want to use my card for a tablespoon of sauce. Needless to say I didn’t get a new bag when it was obvious I had destroyed mine and I tipped the rudest teenager in the world. Apparently takeout customers who tip have to pay for sauce and people who dine in dont. Dont put it out to the public if its not free. Quit your job if you hate it so much. You guys need to fire this girl, she obviously doesn’t need the job that bad. The only positive side about this place is guys in the back look like they’re working hard and they make good food.

Subway Restaurants – Menu with Prices – 4973-A Clairemont Dr, San Diego

This used to be the subway i went to all the time growing up. I come every once in a while now. The past two times in a row coming here i now remember having the same employee both times. I think his name was “Kian” couldnt make out the nametag. But they were unwelcoming moments. I walk in and theres only one customer and its very slow. Shes almost done. As im walking he glances at me but doesn’t acknowledge me. No greeting or anything. Im standing and waiting for about 5 minutes until he finishes up with this customer. No issue. But when he finally comes to me he still doesnt say a word takes his time and then finally stops and looks at me. Again not a word. No apology or greeting. So i had to take the initiative and start the order. As hes doing it he does it so poorly like he doesnt want to be doing it. Hes half assing and throwing whatever he grabs in his hand on the sandwiches. I hardly get any words out of him other than “is that it?” When it came to paying he just told me my total and handed me my receipt . I usually dont care about how people act enough for me to complain like this but he held that vibe the whole way through. Whatever i guess â?

Dry Storage – Menu with Prices – 3601 Arapahoe Ave D-181, Boulder

Food is ok but I will not recommend this place to anyone. It simply got all the wrong vibes to be a decent place to eat: a noisy and messy dining environment, mediocre service, way overpriced food (as expected so I didn’t take any star away), and always having only a couple of sad tiny loafs of bread at the counter (me and my friend had been deterred from dining/purchasing there for a couple times because of it). Moreover, skipping elderly people who need a little more time to serve other customers (just me then) is not the way you treat any people. It could have got two and half stars based on food alone (they also gave me the wrong tea, but who cares).

O’Brien’s Bistro – Menu with Prices – 4350 Bayou Blvd, Pensacola

The outward appearance of this restaurant does not accuratly reflect whats inside. I thought this was a regular run of the mill place to get a quick bite after a long flight, but I was totally wrong. This is a fine dining establishment in every way shape and form. I was wearing shorts and a tshirt and felt under dressed. I sat outside since it was such a nice day out. My waitress brought out some water and some biscuits and butter. These.biscuits. I dont know What blend of herbs and spices they put into these things, but these biscuits! They are an experience in themselves, make sure to ask for them when you go. Aside from the biscuits, I had a salad which, you know, a salad is a salad. Dont get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with it, but at the end of the day a salad is still a salad. With such a wide array of options across the three menus (brunch, lunch, dinner) there is something for everyone, so stop by and checknit for yourself.

La Salvadorena Menu with Prices 1331 Gardere Ln, Baton Rouge

Wow!!! My mouth is still watering from this taco trucks glorious creations. As a lacto-ovo vegetarian they didn’t seem to get my kind in there a lot but were able to accommodate me with refried beans and avacado and cheese as substitutes. I got the pupusas and some glorious egg in a tortilla dish. Omg omg omg. Wow! I DEVOURED MY FOOD!!! I wish they had more lighting around the area because we came so late at night and had a baby with us I was slightly uneasy about that situation but the food was totally worth the wait and everyone else seemed to think so because they were super busy! Brush up on your Spanish or at least try your spanglish people and relax and grab a coke. This food is affordabke and worth the wait.

Rawk Star Cafe St. Pete – Menu with Prices – 740 Central Ave, St. Petersburg

Eating here was a life changing. And I dont mean that in a disingenuous hipster way, I mean it was literally life changing and eye opening for me to see how unbelievably delicious raw vegan food could be. My husband and I are basically flexitarian. We eat an almost vegan diet at home but we do eat seafood and dairy on occasion when we go out. I’ve never been interested in raw vegan cuisine because 1. I like hot food (doesnt everyone?) And 2. I never think its going to be rich enough, flavorful enough or filling….like if I want a salad I can get that anywhere, right? Wrong…I was proven SO wrong. We got 2 half salads and 2 mains entrees which were SO filling in fact, that we had to take home left overs. The cesar salad and raw tacos are what I ordered and both were amazing. The cesar salad had this really great caper dressing and the parmesan was substituted with pusled nuts that were a similar texture and appearance to parmesan. They added a delicious nutty cheesiness and, quite honestly, I’d go back just for that again and have it as a meal. The raw tacos were amazing as well. The inside filling was made of walnuts I think and carrots. There were 2 different raw sauces on top. The spices and flavors were really robust and we kept eating until we just couldn’t eat anymore. With all the healthy fats from the nuts and all the fiber from the veggies you really do get super full and dont feel jipped in any way. We have been telling all of our friends about this place and when my family visits us from up north later this year, this will be one of the first places we bring them.

The Cozy Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1554 A, Bardstown Rd, Louisville

Im really happy The Cozy Kitchen has opened. This is a mom and pop food stop, owned by a nice local couple who cooks everything from scratch. I heard they have been in the food industry for a while and seem to really know their stuff- it shines through in their food. The menu rotates and today I had the pot roast. This is a takeout only place but dont worry- they use environmentally-conscious carryout materials. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes but if you have larger orders they recommend you call ahead. For $9, the pot roast comes with 2 sides and a roll which paired with the carrots and mashed potatoes and gravy. It was delicious. Im glad to have a place where i can quickly grab some food that isnt just french fries and burgers. I feel like I just left someone’s mom’s house where she sent me home with a big plate of food. I can’t wait to go back. Next rotation they will have pot pies among other things.

Upper Crust Sandwich (+ Catering) – Menu with Prices – 267 O’Connor St, Ottawa

A great new place for the neighbourhood. I would never have stumbled upon it if my husband hadn’t read about it opening through a blog but it is definitely worth a trip. It is located in the medical building at the back (go through the Shoppers Drugmart). The husband had a chipotle chicken panini and I had a slightly altered roasted veggie panini with balsamic glaze and feta. The owner was happy to accommodate my food sensitivities with suggested alterations and we were both incredibly happy with our hot delicious sandwiches. Everything looked tasty and I cannot wait to go back to trie several of the other sandwiches on the menu (and breakfast too of course). The prices are reasonable and the portions are plentiful (I brought half of my sandwich home for lunch #2 later that afternoon). If you live or work in centretown, this will be your new favourite sandwich spot! Apparently they also do catering and call ahead takeout orders.

Orange Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1608 E Mayfair Ave, Orange

This place is tiny, and loud. We stopped in for a Sunday brunch before hopping into the car for the drive home. There were about three other parties ahead of us, which meant we had a 30 minute wait for a table. It wasn’t terrible, and we made friends with a guy and his dog while we waited. I kind of feel like they were short-staffed the day we went. There was one waitress and one lady who seemed like the manager for the whole restaurant. I mentioned that the place is tiny, but they were still doing a booming business and every one of their dozen or so tables were filled. I want to give the waitress a pass because she was so busy, but she didn’t seem to have a problem serving the tables around us at all. For my meal, I went with the Country Scramble (basically a deconstructed omelet with sausage, topped with sausage gravy), wheat toast and a side of hash browns. My husband opted for the Country Benedict, which came with eggs and a side; he chose the cottage cheese. The food was okay, but not worth the wait. The sausage gravy was a bit bland, and the eggs were overcooked to the point of rubbery-ness. The hash browns were some of the best I’ve had in a while…but if the one thing I’m praising is a side, something’s wrong. My husband did love his Benny, but couldn’t bring himself to eat the cottage cheese side. It was super watery (you can see that in the picture), and he said it had an off taste. But, he loved his main, and only complained about a side that they probably have in bulk. Opposite of my experience, but it counts. The coffee wasn’t all that great, and we didn’t get refills on our water or the coffee, but by the time we got around to really needing it, we were done. I doubt we’ll be back.

Once Upon A Grill Menu with Prices 1947, 3148 Packard St, Ann Arbor

I met up with a friend and as we were walking in, a group of 6 walked in front of us and as you can imagine, they did order a lot of food. We ordered the following items: – Butter Chicken – Mutton Curry – Fish Tandoori The owner told us it would take longer then usual and sure enough it took a while… we got there at 6:15pm and it took an hour before we got our food. Seemed like the owner was already backed up with few orders, on top of the orders for the group of 6 ahead of us. So what did I think of their food? – Butter Chicken – the dish has heavy butter taste, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying the dish. Pour the curry and chicken on top of the rice and if you like it spicy, order it spicy! The dish really only has two things – curry and pieces of chicken breast. – Mutton Curry – the lamb meat was moist, perfectly cooked and the bones felt off the meat without any issues. They give you a lot of meat in this dish. If you don’t eat lamb because of the smell, then don’t fear, this dish did not have any lamb meat smell. – Fish Tandoori – the name threw me off… expected to be tandoori dish based upon the name, but it was more like blackened fish with grilled veggies on bed of rice. Don’t get me wrong, the flavor department was super packed and the dish was delicious!! Seating is limited to counter top style along the walls, this is mainly a takeout joint. I would recommend you order ahead and take the food home. Looks like the owner is the only person running the joint, so expect some delays. I would highly recommend that you order ahead and pick it up. On the food aspect, the flavors were excellent, I had no complaint on the food itself… the only draw back was the long wait… yes I appreciated the owner saying it would take longer then usual, didn’t expect an hour wait for the food… but at the end, the wait was worth it… next time, I’ll call ahead and pick up the food and eat there. While the wait was too long, I’m giving 4 stars for the food experience. Also keep in mind, some of the items you order, they might not be able to fulfill… we wanted to order BBQ for 2 people and was told that was not feasible, just have backup order plans just in case.

Kumo Sushi & Hibachi – Menu with Prices – 1251 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Fredericksburg

I went in for the all you can eat (AYCE) sushi. The Chinese hostess came out and asked how many ( I’m starting to think this is the formal greeting in all Chinese restaurants) and proceeds to walk me to the bar. There are empty seats around and rather sitting me in front of the sushi bar, I am off to the side. I looked at the menu and when I asked about the AYCE, the server says theres a separate menu for that… oh great. Lets see what the limitations are to this AYCE. Wow so basically you can choose only 4 basic meats for sashimi, which none include tuna or salmon. Theres more for nigiri, and some other dishes other than sushi. Just as I expected from a Chinese “sushi” restaurant, hardly any meat, on a mound of unseasoned rice. I ordered my food. The lady who took my order said that I could place a bigger order and that I should just place 1 big order. No thank you. I will eat at my own pace. Plus this is a Chinese restaurant secret. You place one giant order, it gets loaded with rice and all sorts of other fillers, it doesnt taste to your expectation, and now you get charged for whatever you dont finish. They have a strict no waste policy here. As I was cutting some of the rice out with my chop sticks, several of the staff walked by and looked at my plate and saw what I was doing and looked very concerned. Attached is a picture of that first dish I ordered. The mound of rice literally has tobiko (roe) sprinkled on top. The squid was very fishy, it was not fresh at all. Who knows how long its been sitting in the freezer. The tuna and salmon were nice slices and were fresh, but way too much rice (hardly even seasoned) were under them. As I ordered more and more dishes, service got slower and slower. I ended up to have to stop the servers as they walk by. The lady who initially took my order stopped walking over to me. Basically, typical chinese “Sushi” restaurant making a buck. Service is always lacking and the sushi is bastardized. 2 stars.

Crushed Red- Overland Park – Menu with Prices – 10640 Roe Ave, Overland Park

Let me start with the food is amazing! My favorite salad in town. Would’ve probably been one of my favorite restaurants but decided to actually go in and eat rather than takeout. The service disappointed me. All the employees seemed mad, I think I saw a total of one smile. The first thing i saw when ordering was an employee throwing a receipt, saying a cuss word because they were mad about the work they had to do – not even apologizing! There was trash all over the ground in the back. The set up was pretty good and the actual eating section was pretty clean and put together. I think I will either stick to just takeout. Left a sour taste in my mouth
