Looking for hidden gems? This is probably what you’re looking for. The location is tucked away on Staring Lane with a small sign that you can barely see. I’ve had my eyes on this place for awhile, and I was not disappointed. Immediately upon arriving through the doors, the restaurant did not impress me. There was a cashier and kitchen area to the right and a bunch of unassuming tables to the left. The waitress staff greeted us, and a waitress told us to pick any seat so we picked one near the wall of mirrors as this was the table with the most room around it. The other tables were haphazardly placed which made the whole place look clustered. Personally, I did not like the decor much between the randomly assorted tables and the closed blinds on the windows. I thought that I just traveled back in time. Once seated, a waitress came to ask us our drinks and give us the menus. She gave us a minute and came back to answer our questions and take our orders. She was super kind and super helpful. The menu had a solid number of choices without overdoing it. With our orders in, she went and fetched us a bowl of complimentary hushpuppies. She calmly explained how things worked with the salad bar and the dessert bar and with the AYCE fried catfish plate that I ordered. I had to call the waitress to bring more catfish. The salad and dessert bars are placed in the back and accessible by those who paid for it. If you pick a salad as a side, you can go and get anything you want at the salad bar if it is open. The only issue that happened with this restaurant was that my server left during a change in the shifts and did not tell the other servers of my order. Therefore, I had to wait for sometime to continue to get my endless supply of fried catfish. We had to call over a new waitress who took care of the issue by becoming our server and providing us with the best service that I have ever seen. The food here was fabulous. The complimentary hushpuppies were tasty, fluffy, and had a hint of sweetness to it. If you put some of the provided butter on it, you will definitely just fall in love. My fried catfish plate came with mashed potatoes with gravy and Mac and cheese. The mashed potatoes with gravy were good and reminded me of the school cafeteria mash which was one of my favorite items to get. The gravy was seasoned a bit too much for my liking. The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. The star of the plate, the fried catfish, was really out-of-this-world. It was flaky and came apart really easily. The seasoning was all there, and I loved every bite of it. I can see why the fried catfish was the star of the place. I also had a taste of the garlic bread which was big in size. The garlic was layered on top, but I could taste it throughout each bite which was impressive for a big piece of bread with garlic layered on top. Each bite seemed like a piece of garlic heaven. The salad bar was really fresh as well. All of the greens were fresh. The salad dressings had a lot of flavor, and the croutons were like mini garlic bread pieces. Aside from all of my personal dislikes of the decor, I think the service and the food really elevates the whole restaurant. I could not give it a full 5 stars only because of the service mishap and the decor. I would definitely come back and try to avoid the shift change at around 2-3 pm.

Ms. B’s Southern Soul Food – Menu with Prices – 676 St Andrews Rd, Columbia

There were not a lot of reviews but we decided to try Ms. B’s anyway. The food was delicious, staff friendly, restaurant and restrooms were clean. I had the turkey wings, Mac & cheese, cabbage, rice & gravy, and corn bread. My husband also had the turkey wings, but with black eye peas and Mac & cheese as his sides with the rice and gravy and cornbread. The turkey wings were seasoned well and falling off the bone. They were so good we overate and split another plate between the three of us. My son had the fried chicken and enjoyed it too. The vegetables were good too. On our extra plate we had the fried okra as a different side. We’re new to the Elgin/Columbia area and are happy we’ve found a restaurant with great food, portions, and service.

Barrows Catfish – Menu with Prices – 8300 Earhart Blvd #103, New Orleans

Greeted and seated immediately upon entering. The dining area is very small, if all tables were occupied, it would be hard to maneuver for the guests and wait staff. A bigger location is needed. Our waitress came in a timely manner and took our drink order. I ordered an Arnold Palmer( 24 oz, no refills, good but extremely sweet!) and my boyfriend ordered a Sprite( crisp and fresh). For appetizers, we ordered the Crab claws and a dozen Chargrilled oysters. Crab claws come in a very nice portion in a yummy buttery garlic sauce and French bread slices. The oysters were cooked to perfection with lots of fresh minced garlic, butter and parmesan. Entrees ordered were the Catfish Platter with fries and Shrimp platter with potato salad! I’m not sure how they fry the food in the back but there wasn’t a lick of excess oil on the plates! The catfish was fried golden and the fries were good! Fresh thin cut potatoes not frozen! The shrimp and potato salad was satisfying. They definitely have a special ingredient in the potato salad, OMG I loved it! Of course we couldn’t eat it all so we took to-go boxes. Oh, if you plan on sharing, there’s a $5 charge per extra plate! That’s steep and I wasn’t pleased when I read that. My bf decided to get a Praline Cheesecake to go. It’s not made in house, it’s boxed cheesecake ? Not sure if any of the desserts are made in house. This bill was $100 before gratuity. Overall, our experience was nice! Definitely will be back!

Chicken Shack Menu with Prices 3939 Pawtucket St, Baton Rouge

My husband frequents this place for fried catfish whenever he is working in Baton Rouge. After hearing him rave about it, I gave in and decided to try it out. It is counter service with some not so friendly ladies working the counter. However, the place is clean. I mean windows, tables, trash area, restroom…all clean. Our food arrived boxed up for take out, but they have tables for you to use if you choose to eat it there. My chicken wings were greasy and seasoned, but too salty for my preference. The fried catfish really is good, but again too salty for me. They give you so much food on the $10 catfish plate. We could have split it, but I thought I would try the chicken since it is the Chicken Shack…duh! Anyway, I had the red beans and rice as suggested side from the counter clerk, but it was not good. I also ordered the sweet potatoes and they were pretty good, due to being smothered in brown sugar.

Chicago Grill – Menu with Prices – 824 6th St SW, Cedar Rapids

I am a southern girl & I love my fried catfish! Even though I have not been to the restaurant, I have now ordered from them twice through Door Dash. This is definitely the best fried catfish I have had since leaving South Texas! I love their fries seasoned with lemon pepper. They also season their catfish fillets with it as well. I would definitely recommend that you give them a try! I am looking forward to introducing my husband to their food and trying different things off the menu.

Shell Shack – Menu with Prices – 7918 S Broadway Ave, Tyler

Went their on a Friday at 6:00 P.M on 8/09/19. Did not have a pleasant experience. Pro: Waitress was nice. Hush puppies were good. The batter on catfish was light and good. Cons: Grilled shrimp was over cooked – rubber, plus it come with the shell on, pain to peel off and does not say this on the menu. French fries were not hot and were overcooked. Steamed broccoli was very bland, no taste. Waitress took a while to get items to the table. i.e. ketchup, salt, pepper. By the way salt, pepper and ketchup on table so if you want it asked in advance bc you have to wait while food gets cold. Fried Catfish, one piece tasted murky/muddy just had a peculiar taste that Catfish has sometime has. No seasoning on it either. it’s an open concept so very noise. The music was loud, with all the noise was just unpleasant. Little expensive, Two fried catfish and lots of fries and two hush puppies $12.99. No other sides. Other places i.e. Clear Spring gives you more food for same price. Guess we got wrong thing bc they were busy and other people seemed to have no problems. Waitress would not come pick up the bill, finally put cash down and left very disapointed. Will not go back.

Kim Seafood & Po-Boy Shreveport – Menu with Prices – 4456 Youree Dr, Shreveport

My fist trip to Kim’s was tonight as I wanted fried fish. This new #2 location was near my home, so it was almost a no- brainer. Shane’s Seafood is also near and their catfish is above average, but Kim’s was new territory. The menu is impressive! Fried and boiled seafood choices literally fill the wall! They also offer beer, something Shane’s on Youree Drive does not.Placed my order, paid and sat down with my cold draft beer. My order arrived hot and attractive atop a styrofoam plate. Two small tubs of Tarter sauce and a very small container of what may have been Ranch dressing were placed by my food. The catfish fillets were large , and generous. A small order of fries took up a portion of the plate and a very small salad consisting of Iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato finished filing the plate. Salt, pepper, catchup and hot sauce were available as well. The crust on my catfish was golden brown but was not firmly adhering to my fish. It was also a problem that about a third of my catfish fillets tasted” fishy”! If you love catfish- you know exactly what ” fishy” fish means. Jan’s River Restaurant in Shreveport is the GOLD standard of great, Louisiana, Farm- raised catfish . I’m not sure if Kims uses imported fish, this causing the taste problem, but it was a disappointment. As for price- it was higher than Jan’s considering that Jan’s includes bottomless coleslaw, hush puppies, and very generous portion of fries. You would think from this review that I would never return , but you would be mistaken. I won’t return for the fried food, but from the smell- will happily give them a chance on the boiled selections. Most likely will bring the wife as my co- taste taster for some boiled shrimp and crab!! They also offer a selection of po boy sandwiches! Never give up on a restaurant after just one visit. Their Bossier City store has survived a very long time. I’ll revisit this review after my next visit. I can’t wait to see what others say- but I did notice that the majority of reviews came from one person. He loves this place!I I wish Kim’s well, but Youree Drive is a tough road for restaurants. The ones that survive, survive because they excel.

Roberto’s Pizza – Menu with Prices – 3970 Jonestown Rd, Harrisburg

First time ordering from this restaurant. Ordered food via Yelp delivery (was cheaper than grub hub and doordash) and it was right on time. We are so glad we gave this place a try! The cheese pizza is my new Harrisburg favorite with tons of cheese and a thin, chewy crust. The Italian sub was delicious–the bread was fresh and soft and it had the perfect amount of filling–I really liked the super shredded lettuce. And last but not least, the chicken parm was amazing! It comes with a large salad and garlic bread, which were also very good. The garlic bread looked a little over toasted but it didn’t have any effect on taste. We will definitely be ordering from here again!

Hawaiian Kitchen | Catering Service | Catering Duluth | Corporate Party Catering – Menu with Prices – 3920 Peachtree Industrial Blvd #1, Duluth

So, I recently saw this pop up on my Yelp list when looking for food in Duluth, and I’ve always wanted to try Hawaiian food. I drove 40 minutes (I don’t live in the area) to MEAT up with a friend (hah, get it? meat? lokomoko?) to have lunch there. It’s fairly new and somewhat small. I think there were 2-3 tables of families enjoying lunch, so there were only the high table seats (4-5 of them) on the left side that were left. However, we were warmly welcomed by the owner — bro, she is so so so kind. We ordered the Waikiki Special (there are a couple) that had the fried chicken cutlet and garlic shrimp w/ fried rice, glass noodles, and macaroni salad and the Loko Moko, which I was the most excited about trying. It’s a dish that consists of sunny side up eggs over a layer of gravy which is sitting on top of a hamburger patty which was sitting on top of a mound of steamed white rice. The prices are absolutely phenomenal for the amount of food you’re getting! The service was super awesome, shout out to you, mam! I’d definitely say that the Loko Moko was my favorite of the two. The patty was seasoned really well, the gravy tasted great, and there was so much rice I was ready to take a nap. The Special was okay. The shrimp were good, the cutlet was crispy (a little dry), noodles were okay, mac salad was good, but the fried rice didn’t seem.. fried, tasted pretty similar to the steamed rice besides the bits of fried garlic (which were bomb). Overall, small place, great service, with good portions for the prices. I definitely recommend the Loko Moko. I’m gonna ask for extra gravy next time cause it was fiiiiiire.

Gio’s Villa – Menu with Prices – 2325 Central Blvd, Brownsville

Nice family run Italian place in Brownsville. This is the type of place my wife loves. Very mom and pop, red checkered table cloth, homemade Italian. There was a steady stream of customers, most of whom seemed to be regulars as they had friendly familiar conversation with the owner. We came for pasta. The prices are very good. For $8.95 you get garlic bread, salad or soup, and a plate of spaghetti. To be honest the spaghetti didn’t really do it for me. It was fine, but it didn’t really impress me. My wife and son really liked it. However the homemade garlic bread was perfect and delicious. And crazy to say it, but the salad was my favorite part of the meal. It was super fresh and dressed perfectly with the homemade vinaigrette. Honestly I could have eaten 3 times as much salad with some garlic bread and been happy. The pizza at other tables looked good, but we didn’t try it. Overall, this was a great find.

Vivian’s Soul Food – Menu with Prices – 4342 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids

Following recommendations from yelp and a tourism magazine brought our family here on sunday. I ordered fried catfish, collard greens, Mac and cheese and cornbread muffin. My only slight negative was there were a couple of fish bones. The catfish was definitely sweet and not muddy tasting. The greens, Mac and cheese and corn bread muffin also really good. My husband has short ribs and mashed potatoes and gravy. I tried the mashed potatoes and they were hard. Weird as did they not add milk to them. No offense but I make better mashed potatoes. Another pet peeve is storage shelf full of supplies on way to bathrooms. Also heard arguing in kitchen then someone would blast the radio real loud. Friendly staff and good food. Another customer left as they had no oxtails. If they could improve on mashed potatoes. Definitely recommend though.

Empty Plates Catering LLC – Menu with Prices – 6118 NW 7th Ave, Miami

I recently wrote a review of The Empty Plate Restaurant and indicated I had to come back and try more of the menu. Well, Chef Dee serves a Sunday Brunch. It’s order off the menu, not a buffet and not multiples of anything there’s 8 items and 7 sides. My friend and I decided to order two meals, Shrimp & Grits and Fried Fish which came with 2 sides. The Shrimp & Grits was yummy and for sides we selected her collard greens w/turkey and the Zesty Broccoli along with a side of Twisted Mac & Cheese. The latter was a little too dry for my taste but the broccoli was slammin’. Really enjoyed the greens just not a big fan of the stems – I know my friend said that’s where the nutrients are but I could have done without a few of them. We split the shrimp/grits order and then loaded each plate with a nice size filet. The fried fish used was swai; it’s a white fish, akin to catfish. It’s okay, I’m a catfish lover but this sufficed. Swai is found in the waters of Southeast Asia and is extremely cost effective and beats the heck out of tilapia. At any rate, Chef Dee’s brunch is from 11:30 until 6 – one of the most cost effective spots in town. We went around 2ish but if you want her Smothered Pork Chops, you better go early, that and the corn bread waffle with honey butter were sold out. Tell her Robbie sent you. I am going back again…

El Encuentro Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 3511 NW 17th Ave, Miami

-Busy streets. -Permit parking along the street. -Small family restaurant. 3-4 tables. -Counter with 5 chairs & Dominos table. -Ordered 3 mangu with onions, fried cheese, and salami. All 3 plates had the fried cheese COLD â?. The taste of the cheese was nothing like I’ve had before. -This plate is a typical Dominican plate which should be served with purple onions not white. They served the mangu with white onions. Really?! They can’t go down the supermarket and buy purple onions ?! Come on… you’re a Dominican Restaurant. â?
