Much-needed local-owned small plant shop in the neighborhood! Forget overpriced florists or schlepping to Home Depot, Little Shop of Soil is the answer! They have a couple of larger plants/trees (I don’t know which is which, really) that go up to my waist or higher, and then a great selection of medium, small and micro plants. I bought two plants on opening night that I’d never seen before–the leaves had red on the undersides and I just couldn’t resist. The shop owners are young, passionate about plants, and really care about you and the plant you’re taking home. They even offered to special order some larger plants that my husband and I have been trying to find. I’ll be back soon to feed my plant addiction ?

Mucha Lucha Taco Shop – Menu with Prices – 1530 S Val Vista Dr, Gilbert

Is there new owners or something? My last experience here was just excellent, but man this time was completely different. I guess me and my brother were bugging them ordering our food. The man working couldnt have been more condescending and the women couldnt wait to get to the back. I didn’t even order any food for myself or my son because my wifes order irritated them enough so I said screw it. My brothers wet burrito came out dry and he couldnt really saying about it because they rushed off as soon he paid. Two people were in there when we showed up so it was definitely not busy. Idk what their problems were but it was more then enough for me and my brother to never ever eat at this restaurant again. Also to the women worker, when you roll your eyes try looking away so the customer cant constantly see you doing. Just fyi for the next guy…

Boru Boru – Sushi Burrito + Poke + Bowl – Menu with Prices – 1861 W Tennessee St Unit 290, Tallahassee

This place? Astonishing. The service? Amazing. The food? Show-stopping. The boba/tea? Spectacular. This place amazes me everytime I go!! Everytime I go to Tallahassee I go to Boru Boru for boba! Now, if you’re looking for boba at a relative price, go to Pong’s- but if you’re looking for good boba, go here! The specialty boba is everything!! For 6 dollars? Amazing. Boba can be very pricey and this place does not disappoint! Plus, they ALWAYS have discounts!! The store is CUTE, the vibe is unreal. They have this book in the front of the store, where you order, and they’ll have questions for their costumers and it makes me feel at home and cozy! The staff is amazing and so helpful! They KNOW whats going on, and they KNOW the food is good! Speaking of food, their ramen is to DIE FOR! Everytime I wanted ramen in Tallahassee, I would go to Primetime, but this place is cheaper AND better!! It has so much in it and it will feed two!! (Or one if you’re THAT hungry- or if you don’t want to share!!) The only thing that I don’t like is: their plants don’t get enough sunlight! (As a plant LOVER that bothers me) but overall, this place is a MUST!

Reclamation – Menu with Prices – 3901 N Williams Ave Suite C, Portland

I visited Reclamation PDX on the day of the grand opening and to say I was blown away is a complete understand. From every little and BIG detail, the owner, Elizabeth has actually thought of every-single-thing to curate the most visually stunning gift and plant shop I think I may have ever stepped foot into; it literally sweeps you off your toes into this world that she has thoughtfully created to share with us. From beautiful gifts including plants, cards, and jewelry to unique displays like hallowed out old school tvs and tomato strainers as planters to a shop turtle and vintage book pages scattered across the wall, I’m willing to bet anyone can find something they love while shopping there as well as find something new to amaze over each returning visit.

Two Brothers Pizza – Menu with Prices – 5125 Jonestown Rd #157, Harrisburg

I was there 2 weeks ago and got home to find a hair in my food. Then, last week and ordered a cheesesteak with marinara sauce. I got home to a steak sub with no sauce or cheese & it was extremely dry. I decided to try again. I called to place an order and wanted the same thing. I couldnt understand the person who answered the phone and needed him to repeat himself multiple times when I finally was able to make out that he said you cant make a cheesesteak with marinara sauce. I tried to ask a question but couldnt understand him. I give up after 3 bad experiences in a row. I hope others have better experiences than I did. Its a shame because Ive heard good things.

RND Coffee Lounge – Menu with Prices – 1114 Main St SW, Roanoke

A great little coffee shop which was a much-needed addition to the Wasena neighborhood. Great coffee, great pastries, you can’t really go wrong. The pricing is reasonable as well. The atmosphere is super cute and artsy. They did a great job with the renovations. A small shop, though – if you come during a busy time like the morning on a weekend, it may be hard to find seating. The owners are very nice and happy to talk about their coffees and foods. They are clearly passionate about what they are doing. However, service can be a little slow because it is just two people working there for now (it seems). I can imagine that to be a bit overwhelming with how popular the shop is becoming. I hope to see RND learn, grow, and thrive in the neighborhood.

Red or White Wine & Gourmet Center – Menu with Prices – 1104 Dauphin St, Mobile

This place has amazing pizzas and starters with a very broad selection of wine. Unfortunately, the service leaves much to be desired. There is no excuse for the servers to fail to bring the wine orders until my reminding them 40 minutes after ordering. This has happened on the prior two consecutive visits. This leaves money on the table for the owners and diminishes the dining experience for us. There are also issues of inappropriate conversation between staff and seated guests. Please properly train your staff. You – the owners- have a great concept, so don?t let a few bad apples ruin it for everybody. I?d like to be a regular patron.

CBJ – Snappy Pizza – Menu with Prices – 3450 Jordan Ln NW, Huntsville

Great pizza! I have driven by here several times and never really given it a thought. I decided on a whim to give it a try and glad I did. The crust isn’t thick nor thin, it’s the perfect thickness and soft yet a little bite to it. I ordered the doubleroni and the monster…I was not prepared for the monster. It’s pretty big, I was expecting maybe a bit larger than a large realistically. It’s in reality much larger and can easily feed a group of 4-5 with leftovers for the next day.

Pasture & Plenty – Menu with Prices – 2433 University Ave, Madison

I was excited to try this spot. They have plant based printed right on the window, so I figured they must have at least a few good options. I went inside and checked out the menu, but didn’t see anything that I would classify as plant based or vegan. Asked the person at the counter what they offered, and she first told me that basically everything was plant based. And then changed that to they could modify a few things. Told me the pesto bowl was what she would recommended. I asked if the pesto had cheese in it. She told me just nails and pine nuts. I asked again, no Parmesan? She said she was pretty sure not, but she could check with the kitchen. Checked with the kitchen and they said it does have cheese. I didn’t end up getting anything. The bowl without the sauce sounded pretty boring, and there really wasn’t anything originally made plant based. This seemed like a neat spot and I would like to like it. However, if they’re advertising plant based on the window as more than just a trendy buzz word, I think they should have at least one plant based dish on the menu (and really probably more than one). And have their folks trained on what that means and what on the menu is or isn’t plant based or easily modifiable. It’s a nice space. They say their getting local ingredients, which is cool if it’s true. But I guess you can’t believe everything they’re advertising unfortunately.

Lacuna Kava Bar – Menu with Prices – 821 N 3rd St Suite 12, Phoenix

Put in this the category of taking a shot in the dark. The Phoenix New Times included this place in their Best of 2019 list and its just a stone’s throw from my apartment so I felt obligated to at least try it out. I’m quite certain I’m not the target demographic for the Kava/Kratom trend, but ever the Downtown enthusiast I am, I stepped into this place completely ignorant of how this works. I left only slightly less ignorant, but I’ll give you the rundown and you decide whether to make a go here. I came to Lacuna after dinner on a Friday evening in search of what I’ve at least heard is a refreshingly new concept. Look for Lacuna Kava Bar on the southeast corner of 3rd Street and Garfield. Located on the backside of an aging apartment complex, Lacuna sort of has the feel of a tiki bar, but perhaps a more clubby version of it. You’ve got the bar up front with seating for about a dozen with tropical decor and even tropical videos playing on the monitors behind the bar. But you’ve also got vinyl and leather couch seating around the interior perimeter that can seat probably another dozen more (and the walls are adorned with artwork for good measure). As confused as I was from the get go, Crissy made me feel right at home from the moment I walked in the door. As this was my first time I was given two small free samples. One of Kava (basically a Polynesian pepper plant extract) and one of Kratom (a tropical evergreen plant extract). Crissy gave me a very thorough run down of all the wonderful things these plants can do for humans and how native tribes and residents where these plants are grown have been using them for thousands of years (honestly I should’ve just read up on their website beforehand). Anyways, after trying the sample Kava and Kratom I decided I’d order a Kratom cocktail for my first deep dive. I went with the State 48, because of course. The Kratom is mixed with prickly pear lemonade, ice, topped with a pineapple slice and a berry sugar rim. I chose their “red” Kratom which is supposed to engender relaxing, soothing effects on my body. Total cost including tax came to $11. I don’t know that I feel anymore relaxed now than I did when I entered, but the drink was good. Refreshing, with an herbal and slightly earthy tone, mellowed by the sweetness of the fruit additions. The Phoenix New Times called this place the best place to have a hippie drink in the valley. And I have to say that has merit. The Downtown arts and college crowds seems to love this place, and I will absolutely confirm that the staff at Lacuna is as friendly, energetic, and passionate about their product and their business as everyone says. Crissy (bless her heart) tried very hard to make sure I enjoyed my first experience here and took great pains to explain every aspect of the business to me. If nothing else, Lacuna is certainly a unique find in Downtown. And their customer service is top of the line. The concept may ring hollow for some, but its certainly worth paying at least one visit to let Crissy and the rest of the staff do their best to introduce you to something wildly different.

Plant Power Fast Food – Menu with Prices – 5095 Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach

Nice to have a plant based option in close proximity to our home. This fast food joint joins the growing contingent of plant based options in the Long Beach restaurant scene. Alas this menu is crafted to be based on 3 types of non meat patties. Soy based, black bean based, if memory serves there was a fake chicken patty as well. Tried their signature burgers. Bun quality was of the super cheap variety, White, wonder-bread like, but not really soft. The food here is like if McDonald’s replaced their beef patties with vegan patties and vegan cheese, and used plant based mayo as well. So what you get is affordable, guilt free fast food. Just manage expectations.

Cowboys Roadhouse – Menu with Prices – 1034 Elizabeth Rd, Winnipeg

okay i was here for the throwback night end of march. the bouncers and security were extremely negligent. the line formed into a mob so tightly packed that i couldnt breath and couldnt get out to leave the premises even if i wanted to, which i did. At a certain point my arm got trapped between the gaggle of people, and when i tried to get it back it resulted in my wristlet (containing my cards, money, and ID) getting torn off my wrist with the zipper broken off. i was seperated from my friends at this point so i was on my own. i couldnt even bend down to try to find my bag since it was so tightly packed. i yelled for the security guard to do something, to break it up, and he said “theres nothing i can do” which is super not true. luckily once i was finally shoved inside i found my bag had been kicked to the entrance with my things all inside. my whole body is sore from being squished at all angles, my friend has bruises up her wrist from the mob. i feel that this was negligent of the club. if i could give it 0 stars i would. one of the worst experiences ive had.

Tea And Whisk – Menu with Prices – 10271 S Eastern Ave #116, Henderson

If you haven’t visited Tea and Whisk in awhile, you should! It’s much more than a retail shop now. The tea culture and vibe is goin strong here! Come check it out! There’s a tea club that always has a bunch of fascinating tea nerds that get together. I learned so much about the origins and characterics of the different teas, and Leo the owner and Ken took time out to show me all about what Gongfu Cha (tea making ceremony) is. Teas are much more than that boba or flavored teas you be sippin on. I appreciate this shop even more now and get excited when Leo posts the rare teas that arrive at Tea And Whisk. https://www.instagram.com/p/BijuXpogdbV/?igshid=1qedxqo2unbgs For the casual tea drinkers they do make the iced flavored teas and slushies. I like anything with rose, ginger or lavender if I’m going for the flavored teas. Refreshing, delicious! I have my own little tea station set up at home and I stock up on Matcha Green Tea powder from here. All HIGH quality. Smooth in texture. The higher grade (Imperial) and (Royal) their top grade sells for more reasonable price than where I was getting it over at Match House. Plus there is always daily special they run. Sign up for the newsletter or check their calendar posted on their social media sites to see what’s up. The teaware is also impressive!! Beautiful tea sets, tea pots, trays, and the essentials for gong fu style. The prices are in line with Amazon…so no price gouging here. That’s what lured me into here for a second visit. I ended up snagging the one of a kind teal colored tea set . Use it all the time. Unique portable tea set was my latest purchase. I pack it up with me along with tea leaves and use it. There’s a rewards system where the more you spend the more reward points you rack up!! You can use the $$ to go towards your purchase of drinks or tea merchandise. I used mine to get the retro pink teapot! So yes, if you want more authentic teas or experience the tea culture, and see how passionate the staff, owners and the customers are! Give this place try!!!
