A very relaxing and classic coffee experience. Half of the joy of grabbing joe here is the environment; nestled in a beautiful mid-century building up a winding gravel path, Copper Kettle is surrounded by the Bellevue Botanical Gardens, and an excellent launchpad for educational and rejuvenating walks in the carefully curated and landscaped park. The coffee is pretty good too, though the flavored beverages can be over-sweet. The espresso is poured on a beautiful restored machine that produces beautiful crema, handled on this occasion by an obvious veteran barista. The cafe is pleasant, clean, with a fireplace and small gardening-oriented library. Service was polite, chilly by Seattle standards but spot-on for Eastside, where no one seems to have time for chatting or smiling anyway. My barista gave the firm impression that my inquiries about the coffee and machine were unwelcome and that I was merely being tolerated, so I did not delve. With so much else to enjoy and appreciate all around me though, I was not put out. Normally a two or three star experience, location elevates this place entirely. And it’s probably for the best; if they were too good, this place might be overrun and much less enjoyable. Recommended.

Sootha Coffee – Menu with Prices – 4840 Irvine Blvd #111, Irvine

I ordered a pour-over coffee using beans from Ethiopia and Yu prepared a very fine cup for me. The fruity notes and caramel came through beautifully vibrant (indicating a masterfully roasted bean which was also brewed correctly). Yu intends to always carry beans from the four major coffee growing regions, namely East Africa, Indonesia, Central America and South America. All of the beans he sources are organic and responsibly farmed and traded. I realize the bulk of his patrons are likely not looking for master-craft coffee but are rather interested in tasty lattes with cool art, ambience, study space, and chatting, etc. Nonetheless, for coffee aficionados, I am confident that with Yu acting as your barista, you will be pleasantly surprised by your cup of coffee as its juxtaposed with what is seemingly a cafe catering to what would otherwise be Strbks patrons. What’s more, you don’t have to deal with the pretentiousness of the Portland-style, cafe racer, hipster nonsense that is so popular with trendy, overpriced coffee houses cropping up all over the world. I say all of this as a disgruntled native of Seattle. Keep fighting the good fight, Yu!

Murphy’s Pub – Menu with Prices – 1928 N 45th St, Seattle

This place is the perfect place to unwind on a chilly, rainy Seattle day! The cup of beef stew was hearty enough for me, although I asked for a side of their brown bread on the recommendation of my friend (a local) and I’m so glad I did! It’s amazing bread! It comes with the bowl, but I knew I would never be able to finish that. . . My teenager had the meatloaf (and the bread) and ate every last bite! I sampled a bit and it was fantastic! My friend (the local) had her favorite – the shepherd’s pie – and let me sample it. While my mom’s is still better, this was very tasty! . . Of course all of this washed down so well with the first Smithwick’s I’ve had since visiting Ireland in 1993! It’s still delicious and tastes fantastic with everything we ordered. . . We missed out on the seats by the fireplace, but we had great service and left feeling quite stuffed! I’ll insist we go back next time I’m in Seattle!

Espresso Elegance Catering, Inc. – Menu with Prices – 122 Elliott Ave W, Seattle

EE is a hidden gem. The coffee hasn’t disappointed me once since I started popping in here for short breaks from work. I usually get a latte or a cappuccino, and they’re always full-bodied and velvety smooth to the bottom of the cup. The space is quiet and cozy, perfect for a coffee break, and the baristas are always pleasant, never too chatty but always smiling. If you’re ever along Elliott Avenue in Seattle between 8AM-12PM (the hours they operate for now), be sure to stop by for an amazing cup!

Relámpago Coffee Lab – Menu with Prices – 74 Spanish St, St. Augustine

Relampago Coffee Lab has a lot going for it. The location is remarkably beautiful, tucked away in the backstreets of historic St. Augustine. It has a desirably modern yet old town charm that makes it so easy to spend time at. The barista was friendly, but she was working solo and was in a rush. Fair prices. A rare automatic pour over machine churned out their own roasted single origins. Novel idea that helps multitasking, but I feel defeats the purpose of having high end roasted coffee. I would expect them to treat the brew craft with as much love and attention as the roasting. For this I am disappointed. The Ethiopian I had was good; a light bodied clean blueberry graham coffee. I stated that it was ‘for here’ and got a paper to-go cup, which I normally wouldn’t mind if it were lesser coffee, but it distorts the notes. I wanted to carefully taste everything this cup had to offer. If it wasn’t for the barista being so rushed I would have asked for a ceramic cup. I’m easy going so I decided to let it slide and head out back to relax on the deck. My wife got the iced coconut mocha; she enjoyed it but liked it better from Kookaburra. Overall, would recommend, but certainly don’t make this your only coffee stop in town!

Emilyâ??s Latteâ?? Daa – Menu with Prices – 603 W Hastings Rd, Spokane

I SO WANTED to love this coffee spot because it is near my home. However, after stopping once and having a great coffee…I have found them to be pretty unreliable. I referred several friends to try them…but when me or friends wanted to stop by, they’d be closed. Several mornings no one was there to offer coffee. Then, I went by recently, and waited in line behind one car…and waited…and the car never moved. Finally, I pulled out of line and as I drove by the Barista was sitting on a chair or leaning on the window simply chatting with the person in the car??? While I was waiting to purchase a coffee? Bummer. I’ll be going to the other coffee place on the same block!

Higher Grounds Coffee Shop – Menu with Prices – 4500 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem

Great little coffee cafe! (Best in NE Salem). If you’re looking for your Starbucks alternative, this is it. It is much nicer, quieter, and cosier. There is soft-seating around the gas fireplace, plus conventional seating throughout. The the visual ambience of art and soft music is just right to get the day started. Plus plenty of outlets for your electronic devices. The only draw backs are that they’re only open 7am – 11am, Monday through Thursday, and hard to locate as it shares space with the People’s Church. There is a TV above the fireplace, which I’m happy to say is turned off. If you’re looking for a quieter place for your morning coffee this is it. It’s definitely one place I’ll be coming back to!

Eastside Thai Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 879 Payne Ave, St Paul

Looks can be deceiving. I was a bit suspect of the restaurant as it appeared small and an older space. My family and I stumbled upon Eastside Thai for a weekend lunch option. Our goal was to find a place with vegan and meat options. We succeeded! Eastside Thai is conveniently located on Payne Ave. There is street parking and a public lot nearby. Everyone in our group was very satisfied with our entrees. We had egg rolls, pad Thai, noodle soup, and cream cheese wontons. I loved the cream cheese wontons and the pad Thai! I also love the option of being able to customize the spice level to any dish. The service and overall experience was great!! I’d definitely go back to Eastside Thai! Support locally owned businesses and eat at Eastside Thai! St. Paul has yummy food!! You just have to be open!

Bare Beans Espresso – Menu with Prices – 7 W Pacific Ave, Spokane

Stopped here on the way when I moved to Seattle. Very friendly service, but more importantly had an iced white chocolate latte that was probably the best coffee I had ever consumed. I still have a lot of Seattle coffee ahead of me, but at times I contemplate driving all the way out there just for another coffee!

Santo Coffee Co – Menu with Prices – 1325 NE 65th St, Seattle

I learned about Santo Coffee earlier from fellow Yelper/IGer Wendy K and Seattle Met. Earlier this morning, I went on a random meandering route to Seattle. Santo Coffee was still closed, so ended up at other indie cafes in Wallingford and Belltown. Coming back north, realized I had a shot at attending this afternoon’s grand opening and proceeded to detour over to Roosevelt. I arrived at 1245 (event started at 1300) and joined the queue. I was midway in line as more people wrapped around the corner and down the sidewalk by 14th/Roosevelt. I wondered who would get this grand opening autographed soccer ball signed by cafe owner, Fredy Montero, former Seattle Sounder and current Vancouver, BC Whitecap professional. My niece? My nephew? My sennin-so shiatsu practitioner’s eldest daughter? Travis a big soccer fan at work? Or The Homie? It ended up being the latter. Another question, why does Roosevelt have such a concentration of indie cafes? Armistice, Broadcast, Wayward, Bus Stop Espresso, Caffe Ladro, Urban Luxe Cafe, and Cafe Racer and now Santo Coffee? Can anyone consider Shoreline maybe in the future, I digress. I even had a great conversation with two individuals in line about the pros and cons about Seattle’s growth, gentrification, and transportation. Love how this can happen so organically…Seattle Freeze, what’s that? Line continues to move forward and I’m finally at the entrance. There even a statuesque supermodel type at the doorway. I snap several photos of the interior and cafe merch, but I still had eyes on the prize after waiting this long. Pastries are duly noted from local Semillion Bakery and Cafe, as I spot an apple chausson in the glass case. Very pleasant counter staff, with the baristas hard at work crafting all of these coffee beverages for this afternoon crowd. Coffee beans are from Devocion, roasted in NYC and LA flown in from Colombia. Tea varieties provided by local purveyor, Miro Tea. I was able to score a signed autographed soccer ball for The Homie and pose for a quick photo with Fredy Montero. Like the Telamundo futbol announcer would exclaim, ‘Goooooaaaaalll !’ Bright, modernesque indie cafe. The pop of color is provided by the plush green sectional and greenery to the right of the main entrance. P.S. Service, apple chausson, and coffee was that remarkable, I returned the next afternoon (8/12/19) with The Homie. But a definite resounding, wholehearted yes…my 10 ounce iced mocha was superb! I’m going to be on the ceiling with the caffeine consumed today though.

Black & Brew – Menu with Prices – 100 Lake Morton Dr, Lakeland

One of the exciting things about the downtown library is the fact that they have Black & Brew attached to it. I love the fact that I can go to the library and then sit at a sophisticated little cafe and have delicious coffee and something to eat. Black & Brew is set up lovely, upscale and sophisticated in appearance but still very comfortable inside, with a lovely outside patio. As soon as I walked in from the library, I was greeted with friendly smiles. All the young people working here were super friendly and appeared to really enjoy their jobs. I ordered a frozen caramel frappe and couldn’t resist the Avocado Tartine (open faced sandwich with house made guacamole, olive oil and cilantro). Everything was prepared quickly and delivered to me at my table with a smile with real silverware on real plates. Absolutely delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The bread was from Born & Bread bakery, so it was extra good, the crust chewy but still almost melt in your mouth soft. At the end, I went to bus my dish like one does at a coffee shop, and found out that they do it for you. Nice. I really, really love this and cannot wait to try something else, next time I go to the library!

Smoky Hill Library Cafe Menu with Prices 5430 S Biscay Cir, Aurora

When I was young I was always very involved with different reading programs, both at school and local libraries. My love of reading has carried on through my life.I’m also trying to instill good reading habits in both my children. The way we go through books, CD’s and DVD’s a good library is a must ! The Smoky Hill Library (branch of Arapahoe Library district) happens to be my favorite library in the area. It’s very well laid out, cozy, comfy and has plenty of places to sit down and read in peace and quiet. There was until recently a coffee shop inside. I don’t know if there is plans to add another one or not. Another huge draw for me is their online availability of e-resources. Both ebooks and audiobooks. They have a wonderful selection and with so many new ereaders that are compatible with library books there is no reason not use these ! Don’t forget the easiest function of reserving and renewing your books on their easy to use website ! If you haven’t been there yet… CHECK IT OUT !

Bikes and Beans Menu with Prices 1350 S Vista Ave, Boise

Had no expectations going into this new spot and I was pleasantly surprised by how cool it is! Literally a bike shop and coffee shop mixed into to one awesome place! Greeted right away by the southern belle barista and found out that the coffee shop is not messing around when it comes to there coffee. Felt like the barista was quite knowledgable about the variety of coffees offered here. Lots of seating for a group of friends to get together also couple of outside tables. My coffee was excellent and service was superior! Highly recommend and I will return sooner than later! Don’t hesitate to visit this cool coffee shop
